“Back It Up” Cowboys Players Talk Panthers Week | Player Interviews
Last week had a strong outing against Sauce Gardner, one of if not arguably the best corner in the league. Here he comes JC Horn. Just talk about the the fun in having these levels of competition in the NFL. Uh it’s always fun, you know, to compete, you know, I guess a top guy, you know what I mean? But like I said before, just trying to help the team win. I feel like last game, that’s what a real team win look like when you dominate and you rack up a lot of points. What can you say about the Ryan Fenoy, his journey, his patience, his grind, and you know, for it to manifest the way it did against against the Jets? I’ll probably say, uh, just something he been grinding for, you know, for a long time, just getting opportunity now and him, you know, exploiting it. Like I said, he had already 114, I think. Yeah, exploiting the opportunity. Uh, and he been working the whole time. So, super proud of Flo. Former Cowboy running back Rico D said, uh, Cowboys better buckle up this week. Has that been any conversation in the room? How’s that handled? Nah, we be buckled up every week, bro. Uh, I don’t really know what he mean by that. I just know we going to try to come out there and dominate and compete. What are your thoughts on the way Javvante’s running here? He been doing super good. Uh, you know, leaving his name on the game as far as a running back. I feel like that’s one of the most important things, you know, jukes, moves, bruising, you know what I mean? Uh, he’s for sure been doing his thing. Walk us through that touchdown play that you had against Jess. A lot of hand fighting on that play, but you were able to make it happen and come to the ground. Yeah, a lot of hand fighting. Uh, knowing he going to try to hold and grab a lot. Uh, so I was definitely trying to not get caught up in that mid route. It was a post route. Kind of got him off the release and then Dak put the ball up. Dak was saying something about run. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely try to get a step on him because we know he can’t, you know, he has a hard time playing the ball in the air. So, uh, definitely get a step on him. That’s all Dak was saying, you know. Did you know before the play they was coming to you? Yeah. When Dex said run, you like, “Okay, this.” Oh, yeah. Most definitely. Uh, definitely with an opportunity. You know, we coming out the third. I think we had a drive before that. We wanted to score in, but we went three and out. So when we got back out there, it was definitely like, let’s put up another one. How do you develop patience over the years, going back even to college, when you know defenses are going to target you to try to take you out? Uh, just stay cool. Uh, kind of like you said, once you know the motive, I feel like a lot of players go in a game and they say they know the motive, but when you see it actually happen, like somebody tried to push me extra, then I instantly know like he’s trying to get me. See what I mean? Like, so when you recognize it and know, you definitely don’t let them guys take you over the edge. Can you see that on film like going into a game like this is how they’re playing a particular receiver? Uh just definitely with me personally. I can’t like really speak with other receivers but definitely with me I kind of figured out I’m so good that’s the only way you can try to take me out my game. In terms of being patient does it help that you’ve also had consistency like you know balls haven’t been coming to you. I mean the touchdown came in the second half but that’s four straight weeks with a touchdown. Is it does that help with being patient? Uh I probably just say every day just learning because that’s kind of what I’ve been doing now. just every day taking one day at a time. Uh, and everything’s going I feel like everything’s going to happen for itself. What can you say about this this young offensive line? I mean, you guys were down four starters on the offensive line, went up against one of the better defensive uh, lines in the league, and I mean, they held up way better than most people outside the building would have expected. Uh, I definitely say kind of like what you said, uh, guys working. That’s kind of like what I seen a lot this previous couple weeks with guys being out and guys being injured. I’ve been seeing a lot of guys like Flo feel the you know rookie O line just stepping up and you know just producing. I feel like they’ve been working their whole life forward too. So it’s definitely something to a poll out. How many shoties helped with all the moving parts on offense? How’s he helped keep you guys confident and keep you guys maybe maybe ready to go each week? Uh kind of like what I said always in the beginning the energy uh you know every day is not going to be bright but when you got a guy like Shotty who come in with good energy every day makes you want to get forward to the next day and get better. What’s the impact Clayton Adams has had on the offensive side? Clayton been super good. Uh he’s always, you know, mostly with the O line, but uh definitely gap schemes and he, you know, his he knows a lot about gap schemes in the O line and where guys are supposed to be up front in the trenches. So, I feel like Clayman doing a great job. You already tied a careerh high touchdowns. Uh could you have dreamed of a start like this? I mean, five has been your most. You got five in five games. I mean, I’m on pace with 17. Yeah. Uh I’ll probably say just one day at a time. Most definitely. Uh, like you said, it’s career high, but all I can say is, you know, the guys, Dak, young O line stepping up cuz it’s my first year, so they definitely helping me out as well. Can you sense how much CD’s chomping at the 50th back? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I seen him out there today. Seen him out there last week. Uh, he was talking to me today. I feel like uh he’s getting closer and closer and closer. He’s been in the lab as well. So, we welcome to have him back, too, as soon as he come back. It seems like you’re having fun. How much How much fun would you would you say you’re having right now? Uh, I feel like I’m having fun. That’s the I feel like I was always having fun. I just feel like the uh the narrative never showed me having fun. Uh but I feel like right now it’s just a good thing, you know, for the team. Like I said, all of us collectively, we just working to get better every day. How many handshakes you got? You see, you got you got one for everybody. Like 40, bro. I got You know, I just got one with uh Jad Blue the other day. He just been getting the game, been working itself in. I just got a handshake with him. So feel like another one going to come flow. He’s been, you know, so how you uh you just, you know, it’s kind of, you know, we see each other every day. They’ll definitely remind me if I forget and then vice versa. Did Dak work on that celebration in the tunnel for a while? Oh yeah. Yeah, definitely. That’s me and Dak celebration. Uh and I was just super, you know, happy that we got the dub. What is it? The jumping up and down. What does that mean? Uh that’s just like a celebration me and him have. Uh I wear number three. We do this. Pretty simple. Appreciate you. Thanks, man. Big home two fan. Uh, I mean, you know, it’s it’s just early in the season, you know, uh, there’s no reason to I mean, we had a lot of ups and downs. There’s no reason to panic, especially like on this early in the season. So, u I mean, I just think they really did a good job of just just staying steady and just focusing on the process. Um, cuz I at the end of the day, uh, the result is going to be the result, but as long as our as our process is right, uh, we’ll be good. You pour through the tape from Sunday. top couple things you guys really think you can build off of and it gain some momentum. Uh just keep playing with our physicality. Uh just you know all all the things that we talk about being violent, uh running to the ball, uh punching at the ball, being physical. Um and it all started how we practice. I think we had a really good practice today. Uh it was a physical practice. Um and we know we got another physical team that we going to be playing against and uh you know we got to we got to be uh be right. Rico said Cowboys to welcome up this week. We hear that. What do you think? Uh man, he got to he got to back it up. Prove it. Um you know, I’m not much into talking. Um they ain’t played nobody like us and uh we ain’t played them. So uh you know, he’ll watch the film and see see what he playing against. Emotal because again, you think he’s a little emotional because his team in a similar fashion. Yeah. Uh I mean, yeah, he he can be emotional. I mean, I know he was coming off a 200 yard game, so he’s probably feeling real good. Uh, but um, yeah, it’s going to be it’s going to be a battle in the trenches for sure. The trench is going to win this game. Shi said you guys will be buckled up. Say again. Your head coach Brian Shav said you guys will be Yeah, I mean, yeah, we got all hands on deck, man. And uh, you know, we’ve been preparing our ass off and and working and uh, like I said, today we had a really good good start to that day. Uh, good run period, a good I mean, a little bit of everything. And uh you know it was a great practice, a good physical practice. Do anything for you? Nah, I mean I mean he said it. He got to he got to be the one to prove it. And uh like I said, we worried about our process and what we doing. We had a a physical practice today. Uh you know, great practice, ran running to the ball, doing all the right things, and that’s all we focus on. People pass off. Uh we just did a good job at at just getting stops and um we got more opportunities. You know, when you get uh when you when you get a chance to get stops and our offense is playing the way we playing and teams got to catch up and we know they going to pass uh you know, we able to pin our ears back and get more drop back opportunities and be able to rush and uh we seen what we can do. Patience with the passers cuz we’ve been talking about it all year and now all of a sudden maybe a breakthrough. I I think we I think we we I mean all of us we can rush. Um, you know, it’s just those opportunities and I I think as as much as we keep getting comfortable with that, uh, keep getting stops, keep playing keep playing sound defense and keep playing good defense, uh, it’ll be way more a lot more opportunities like that and we have more games like that. What’s it like pass rushing at quarterback like Bryce Young who’s smaller than the average passer? Uh, man, it’s good. I mean, you I mean, as a as a defensive lineman, you want to, you know, push the guys in front of him and uh you know, he can’t he not going to be able to really see in front of the I mean, in front of those guys. Uh so, uh you know, that’s the plan. You know, just make sure you push in the pocket. Um you know, he’s elusive in there, too. Got to get some hits on him. Um but you know, he’s a he’s a good athlete and uh and he can throw he can throw the hell out of the ball. So, uh we got to be prepared for that. Each coach is different stylistic. How do you think first you’ve been here? How does sh get you guys to play free and play make some confidence. Um, I mean just uh just focusing on our fundamentals, focusing on our techniques. Um, you know, that’s where we’re going to get our confidence is just from practice. Uh, so I mean I mean that’s all we talk about is just being being able to come in at practice and have our one of our best days. Uh, treat it like a game day and I think we’ve been doing a great job at that as of late, especially on defense and and getting better with that. How bad? Uh, huge. It was huge. I mean, I think it’s going to build a lot of our confidence. Um, you know, you seen I mean, all the energy has been great all week. Um, so we got to just keep that going. I mean, the more you win and uh the more guys start feeling good about their performances and all that kind of stuff, the more confidence guys going to come in come back with uh during the week. So, it’s good to see. What’s your morning routine going into the game? Man, I just pray. I just like read my Bible. I read Psalms um 11:12 about um the righteous man and I just, you know, reflect on how my life is and how it’s been going and just, you know, go out there and play my heart out. Good luck against that Carolina Panthers that have been flow. Yes, sir. Thank you. Got you. Yes, sir. Now you got a mile. Yeah. They want you. Oh, yes, sir. Uh do you know who Miles Austin is? Yeah, I heard of him. What when did when did it come up? after the game or another. So I like I mean growing up I watched football so I heard I knew he wore 19 and you know the reason I got 19 is because Miles Austin and Mari Cooper so I just I like one I just feel like I play like them big and you know fast and just finesse and um just wanted to keep that tradition for real. That’s why so that’s the reason why you Yeah, honestly. Yeah, for real. And has he reached out to you at all? N he no he haven’t reached out because he he had a splash game too against Ken City kind of came out of nowhere. Yeah I heard I didn’t know that part. I just knew of his name and I just after I um had the game I had people been saying comparing me to him just you know he a small school guy. He had what 200 against Penn City one year and just popped off. Yeah. So uh I just got to keep stacking and you know get that. How important are strong hands for a receiver? Man, super important. you know, if we can’t catch the ball, that’s our whole job is to catch the ball and be reliable to, you know, the quarterback. You know, when the ball in the air, just having strong hands, you know, in a league like this, you know, defenders going to be on you. So, you got to be able to catch in traffic or catch with, you know, people around you. So, strong hands is like valuable. And do you think people underestimate your speed a little bit or your s like because you broke a couple tackles there? Yeah. Uh, they might do. I didn’t I mean I always knew I was fast and you know quick. Um you know people don’t know who Ryan Sono is but you know I just want them to know now. So I guess they got to watch out for that now. Work on this off season. Now you’re starting to see I’ve been working on everything. Working on my balance, my route running. Um I felt like my route running got way better. Um, I’ve been working with Ronnie the truth, um, here in McKenna and just he’s been, you know, a great mentor to me and just working on my strength, my contact balance, my, um, tracking the ball, my hand placement, just everything. PR glasses to help with that. How are you tracking the ball? So, we use tennis balls. We um, just rolling around tracking the ball, just getting like some uncomfortable position to catch the ball. You said people didn’t know who Ryan is. Do they know now? Oh, yeah. They should know. They I hope they know. Is it important for you to get out there and uh have another game to stack him, right? Oh, yeah. It’s super important. I feel like if you could do it once, you got to do it be be able to do it twice. You know, that’s that’s just how I’m looking at this game. You know, I’m happy that I got the, you know, the 114, but if I can’t do it twice, it don’t mean nothing. I got to keep stacking. And I just know like that’s where I’m headed. Talk about that seems to be Mhm. No matter who the ball may be coming, right? Yeah. I’m that’s that’s a blessing, you know, just to have a trust from a uh a guy like Dak just to have his trust, you know. I just got to give it all up to God because everything I’ve been through and everything I’m striving for, he sees. What what stands out to you just kind of going off of that about Dak’s ability to elevate any receiver, including a guy like you who hadn’t been getting a ton of targets since the last Yeah, that just shows you how great he is as a quarterback and as a leader, you know, you take, you know, um a guy from small school that nobody know about and, you know, able to dish him the ball and able to show off, man, that just shows you who he is. We’ve spoken with guys like Tolbert and others who in the offseason they’ve been tried to be that guy that’s like always going to Dak’s house and you know getting the throws in. What kind of experience have you had with D? Name. Yeah. When Dak say I’m throwing at this time and I’ll try to be there 15 minutes early and stretch and be ready when he’s ready and just be reliable that and just know that he could trust me. Thanks. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he can say what he wants. He he played a great game last week. Um but you know, we’ll play the game on Sunday. How do you guys feel after the Jets game coming in there defensively getting some turnovers and doing some of the things you said you were working towards? Um it feels great to take a step in the right direction. You know, that’s that’s what we want to do every week. We want to get better this week. Um keep taking steps in the right direction. Um showing who we are as a defense, continue to build on that. Um and just get better. You know, that’s that’s the key to the whole season. It’s a long season. Get better every week. Um and you know, that that’s that’s the goal. Past really came alive against the Jets. What do you think worked to get home this time? Um, guys were just rushing together. You know, the communication was great. Um, you know, James had a great game, Mo had a great game, Kenny had a great game. You know, I could name everyone on the D line. They were just rushing and getting home, hitting the quarterback. You know, it was a it was a great rush game for us and we just got to keep building on that. Was there anything different about the communication or it was just finally aligning? No, the communication was good. Um, and so, you know, guys were on the same page. Um, you know, games were working, back end was great, we were great up front getting home.

Still can't believe we got George Pickens. He was a player I was hoping Dallas was going to draft when he was coming out of college.

I’ve been on Von Ryan’s Express. Keep it up Flournoy! I called Miles Austin’s breakout too. Everyone was trying to trade him to the Jets. Crazy!

Pick reminds me a hopkins attitude wise… cocky but no need to show it.
