On this day in 2009: Alex Rodriguez hit a game tying two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Then in the bottom of the 11th inning Mark Teixeira launched a walk-off home run.

  1. Wild to look back at that lineup and have full faith in every single player at the plate. Didn’t appreciate what we had back then

  2. I was just thinking about this HR by Teixeira last night when judge hit that long single in the 9th

  3. Whats funny is that that team had the same reputation of not hitting when it counted prior to 2009. Not to the same extent as the current Yankees but at times we would get owned by Kenny Rogers for example who was cheating during the game.

The 2002-2008 Yankees were mostly plagued by shitty pitching. After Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite (temporarily) and David Wells left. And also very shitty relievers outside of Mariano Rivera because Joe Torre would ride Scott Proctor for 100 games pitched and would have nothing left in October.

  4. Remember the Damon play in the WS? To take the jump to third?

Boone/Cashman Yankees would be on the other end

  5. Man I miss the time when we had a solid 1B and 3B .. absolute monsters. Respect Mac’s glove, but offense left a lot to be desired.

  6. This team I believe led the majors that year in comeback victories. Yankees teams since have been absolutely pathetic when it comes to showing some fight.

  7. Will always stop to watch this clip. Awesome moment and core memory watching this game back in the day with my dad

  8. I remember watching this game. I thought this ride would last forever 😭😭

  9. It was amazing, my first year in college in NYC, but also, damn… Closers throwing 94 mph straight heaters middle middle.

It was A LOT easier back then. 🥲

  10. You know what we should invent? Some sort of streaming service that allows you to pick any team, any season, and allows you to watch each game of that season on the same calendar day it happened. Wanna follow the 98 Yankees for the entire season? Done. Games unlock on the same calendar day through the whole season and into the playoffs. Boone having a lifetime manager pass means annual Summer Boone Swoons, so why not tune into the 09 season every night in the summer and watch a walk off every other game instead of getting aggravated by an underachieving team. Playoff run end early cuz we shit the bed in an early round yet again? Fear not, let’s ride through the 2000 postseason run ending with the definitive thumping of our crosstown rivals. Obviously we would need the express written consent of the New York Yankees and probably MLB, but you just cut them into a % of the earnings. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d subscribe to something like that in a fucking heartbeat. There is a TON of money to be made in peddling nostalgia, and also an entire generation of fans who would be able to relive our glory days in real time!

  11. I was at this game and clearly remember how the whole stadium rocked when Arod tied the game.

Everyone was off their seats, beers and popcorn flying everywhere while strangers were giving each other highs fives. The buzz from Arod’s home run barely wore off before Tex hitting a rocket out of left field.

October baseball hits differently. These moments become a part of you and I’m so glad I live through the core four and Arod eras.

  12. One of the best moments in recent yankees history

was driving in my car in red bank nj in circles listening to the radio for good luck. I was screaming to people on the street when he hit this homer.

The twins announcers said something like “oh he got him johnny he got em” when I watched it on repeat in shitty 2009 youtube
