NHL Highlights | Flames vs. Canucks – October 9, 2025

ever for a Calgary player. All in a Flames uniform. Good buzz, Ray, and hopefully a good year. Yeah, it really does feel a little bit different. The Conucks are ready to go. And Calgary second game, the Conucks are underway. Last night, same thing they did last year in this build. Canucks are glad they got it out of their system. There’s a shot by Evander Pay. First shot of the game either way. And Dustin Wolf takes it in the glove. Henson Wolf playing games one and two back-to-back nights. First to do that for Calgary since Mika keeper saw him back in 2013. There’s a shot off the mask of Thatcher Demco. He didn’t hit that up. Now a chance in front Coleman is stopped. I don’t know if that hit Demco or Heronic beside him. Part of a Flames team that really outicked their coverage last year. They had a terrific year. started 50 and one which really Golin moving in the right direction out of the gate. Canucks moving the puck over the Calgary line. Kirkland chips it the other way. Here’s Ryan Longberg with a sharp angle backhander stopped by Thatcher Demco by Philip Heedle. Puck loose to the near side. Faraby feeds back. Bahal with a long shot swallowed up by Demco coming off that win last night. Garland trying to go through the defense. Puck was knocked off his stick. Here’s Hughes. Peronic Heedle and he’s stopped by Dustin Wolf. Here’s McKenzie Weaguer. Fabby to the goal line centered. Deco marvelous save on Nazum Cadry. Down for Morgan Frost. Goes round the net. Staying with him, but falling down was Marcus Patterson. Frost still has the puck. Comes out the far side, spins it through the crease and turnover. Baines tried to send it to Garland in front and it was tipped away. Clapka for Calgary. Here’s Lombberg with a long shot. The glove saved by Demco. This team will be a lot different than it was last year. Braden Coups wins a face off in his own zone. That’s his first regular season NHL faceoff win. Cadri tips the puck down. Coronado ahead of the race. So Deco comes out to play the puck. Cadri keeps it in. Goes behind the net. Gets it to Weaguer. Shoots well wide and the puck ricochets out to center ice. Sherwood is there. Here’s Okconor to Sherwood in on the right wing. Keep for Sherwood. Shoot. Scores. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Careerhigh 19 goals last season. He’s got the first of the year for the Canucks. And it’s one- nothing Vancouver. This puck will spin around as we shot goes around the glass. Hanley has to play it, but he can’t quite find it. He gets turned around and there’s no other play here for Sherwood as O’ Connor’s picked up going to the net. Terrific wrist. Wol won’t like this. It beats forced back out to center and there’s just 10 seconds now remaining in the Vancouver power play. Hughes in. Here’s Kane. Evander Kane. Stopped by Wolf. Start to put the pressure on Calgary here. Hughes as the puck bobbled to center finds Evander Kane. Kane wants to go up top on Garland from the corner. bounced off his stick and the Flames able to relieve the pressure. Marcus Patterson will send the puck back in with the pass to Garland into the middle. Pet stuck with the blocker. Nice save by Wolf who came out to challenge Cadri, but he jumps away and after a dreadful train change by Calgary. They got stuck with three guys. One- nothing Vancouver on a goal by this man Kefir Sherwood. Here’s Heronic. Tyler Meyers slap shot swallowed up by Wolf you put some road behind you that you’re healthy it makes you feel better makes everybody feel a little better said he worked a lot on his neck strength this summer feels really confident about the position that he’s in Kanan on the left throws on the brakes tried to dish back to Hughes picked off here’s Coleman ahead of the play it’s a breakaway shorthanded stopped by rebounded back Heel to maybe save a goal Hatcher Demco how he’s such an imposing figure in the Vancouver net. The breakaway by Coleman. Look how far Demco’s out because he skates so well. He knows he can back up if Coleman decides to to deacon but he’s out to take the lane away and Heedle comes back to Nearing the 8minute mark. Second period, one- nothing Vancouver. Hughes checks. Here’s Frost the other way. Morgan Frost stopped by Deco and Elias Patterson’s blue line feed. Heronic. Hughes of the left honk. Spins on Popka. Quinn Hughes. Heronic shoots. Glove save. Knocked down. Loose puck. Penalty coming up to Calgary. Humped at home tonight. So they’ll be looking to come back from that. There’s the shot that hits Wolf in the glove. It pops out. Now it’s loose. The penalty is right there as Okconor goes through the front of the net. aal gets his stick up on him and that leads to the scramble and scrum and wrestling and so I I got called up halfway through my first pro year and was terrified for the for the first four games when I was up when I went back to the American League I was like okay I think I like the NHL better penalty coming up to Philip Heedle in the opening seconds of the third period here as he got the stick in on the Calgary player and a delayed call here. Flames get Dustin Wolf to the bench with a power play upcoming. Puck centered. Zary stopped by Demco. Clap took that neatly off his skate, but he’s checked and the Canucks have a chance to break out. Okconor with Garland. Twoon two. Okconor on the left wing. Wrist shot and that’s handled by Wol who’s going to drop the puck down even with Garland right there. And that’s going to ricochet to Philip Pedle who’s fresh out of the penalty box cutting in and the puck slid off his stick as he tried to shoot it but he gets it again. Nice move to the middle. Pedle on the backhand puts it on the forehand. Lock with that hit ball. He scores on the rebound with Paul down. Heedle put it home. Flames are motioning to get help for the defenseman as the Canucks go up two nothing. I don’t think play was whistled down right from the official that it would be a serious injury. Heedle’s the only fresh guy on the ice. This is the tail end of the power play. Ball is skating across the the front of the net. It’s he’s with O’ Conor. This hits him in the back of the helmet and bounces right back on the stick of Filipedal. It’s a terrible break for the Calgary Flames. This puck deflected twice. It hit the forwards leg then balls helmet and came right back to Heedle. Heedle’s got a wide open net and what a chance for him. Stays two nothing Canucks. Now Baines intercepts lead feed breakaway. Heedle in. Deers [Applause] his second of the period. And Philip Heedle makes it three nothing Canucks. Heedle blocks this shot. It comes right back to him as he’s in the middle of the ice back behind the Calgary defense and he goes to the forehand up over the blocker side. Here’s Derek Forbert for Connor Garland. Nice move on Hanley. Garland on the back. puts one behind for Kane to the middle. Leer Mackey [Music] on the stick off the stick. The setup from Evander Kane and Leer Mackey makes it four nothing. Great move at the blue line by Garland to get by Hanley and as he protects the puck and reverses it, he’s found Kane behind the net. The cycle’s perfect and three wingers on the ice. Leer Mackey comes on to the play as Sherwood had left after the penalty box. Here’s a chance for Farabby in poke check by Demco as he tried to drag it across the top of the crease. Flames keep the puck in. Farabby again. Sharing into the middle. Broken up by the Canucks. Cross now turn scores. Morgan Frost spinning and putting that one past Demco and he gets Calgary on the board. And Demco doesn’t see this. The Canucks can’t clear the puck and Frost will just turn and goes through Demco. That puck is not got not got out of the zone. Baines tries to pass it to Sherwood when you probably should just clear it out of the zone. You’ve got a four nothing lead and puck is 5 ft from the blue line and now it’s back in your zone and with traffic in front of the net, Frost just spins it and throws it to the net. It goes through Demco and it’s now 4-1. Hall dumps it back in and Myers goes back. He’s got lots of time, but Calgary starting a change. Elias Patterson in over the Calgary line. Passer takes the drop pass. He shoots. He scores. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Brock Bessert makes it five to one. Person will drop this puck and he gets in front of Pull. That takes Pull out of the shooting lane as he moves across with Person. Oh, this is a bullet from Besser. He’s got room. Oh, it ramps up off the stick as well of Pal as Pal got pushed out of the plate as the Cups give lots to cheer about on opening. Adam Luke gets his first win behind the Vancouver Bench St. Enko, who’s passed Richard Broner on the alltime wins list. [Music]

Filip Chytil scored a pair of goals while Thatcher Demko stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Calgary Flames 5-1.

  1. Can you imagine Stan the man Bowman gutting our cap space to extend a fringe AHL goalie like Dustine She Wolf and make him your starter? BWAHAHAHA 2 time Stanley cup finalist Stu Skinner would’ve ate the CaNoStanleyCups alive

  2. defensive sticks and position from every player was very impressive, Demko was sound, Chytil looks really good and i could see a 30+ goal breakout season. Hughes started rough but looked better then ive ever seen the 2nd half of game. Coots and Kane probably the quietest players but i know what Kane is capable of. It Could be a solid year to watch this year!!!

  3. If the Canucks wanted to leave last season in the past & begin afresh they made a bl%dy good start here by quenching the Flames!! Congrats on an impressive win Vancouver.

  4. I'll have to give the Flames a bone. It's the second half of a b2b, so they were probably a little tired. Plus, using the same goalie didn't help.

Mind you, I'll bet it was more important to them to beat Edmonton. They still have that 0-3 comeback to be proud of.
