NHL Highlights | Senators vs. Lightning – October 9, 2025
season and they want to build on that right here, right now. The faceoff sponsored by Rooms to Go and away we go on the brand new season here in downtown Tampa. Yeah, Steel had to look down for the puck as he lost control and Homeberg with his first drift out here. And here we go. This we expected. This is brand new Lightning member Curtis Douglas wearing number 42 against Curtis McDerman. Douglas’s first shift in the NHL and he’s got the right pumping. 6’9 and down goes Mcder. Yeah, this may not be the last one in this game. He gets the job done. Here’s how it started. There’s that hit. Nice job by Pis Homeberg. And then these two guys knew exactly what was going to happen. Neither one of them is a stranger to that department. Curtis McDermott’s been around the block in that department. But the two games that the Lightning came off at the end of their preseason against the Florida Panthers. Everybody has been talking about in the zone again. It’s dropped back to Hedmond. Heman moves it over to Oliver Bjorkstrand. Now they’ve got it set up. Here’s Points. Drops this one off in front for Bjorkstrand. Scores. Power play goal and the Lightning have their first lead of the season. One- nothing. He and Braden Point will switch back and forth from the bumper spot in the middle of the ice to the left wing side. We’ve seen that since he arrived last year, but a lot during the preeason here. He’s got terrific hands. Watch him feel his way around here and get his stick ready. Players dig away for that puck, including the captain, Brady Kachchuck. Radish manning the point. Got it. Kov comes back to Radish. He’ll flip it back into the corner. Quick pass. point scores. Brandon Point is on the board. Two nothing. [Applause] And the terrific hands that he has. Outstanding. The way you can feel his way around and that silent chemistry that he’s developed with his linemates, Gensel and Cooerov. Cucharov gets a puck back to the point. Gensel so good at facilitating, so good at feeling his way around. And that screenshot for Almark has more than he can handle. And Braden Point radar for the inside of the far goal post and the Lightning have struck again. No walk out move or lane available there. They get it back to Stutzel. Back up top to Sanderson. Fed down low to Brady. Good shot. He’s in a sharp angle calling for his Cousins and he scores. Dylan Cousins one-time and Ottawa strikes with a power play goal of their own to make it 2-1. Good, quick, crisp shot. Must have been about 4 in from him before he even got a look at it. Shots’s going to come from Vassy’s left. Watch go out. Goes right between the legs. Bassie quite can’t quite pick it up. The crossing patterns in front. Good penetration. Cousins, he got one of the biggest applauses at the introduction, too. They have never forgotten about Yanni Gourd here in Tampa Bay. And they won’t ever Here’s Stutla winding it up. Steps around Lillberg. Stutla in center. A catch up with a shot. Save by Vaselki. As mentioned, they met headto-head four times last season, Brian, and three of those games were decided by one goal. We’re going to have another scrap here. This is Lillberg, who squared off with the rookie, Sabrangal, the defenseman. He’s got his right free. Lillberg is a good fighter. He is shown that. Yeah, he got it three. All right. So, he took the first one. I had I knew I had to learn how to fight. This one was not about a hit. Yeah, this was a conversation that advanced. You could tell they eyeballed each other, dropped the gloves, and away you go. So, the first one, Sango gets punched. He didn’t do a lot, but he did land in it. But you can tell that even though boxing is is not exactly what happens when you’re fighting in the NHL because you’re on skates, it’s all about balance. You can get pulled off your feet. So you got to get that right hand free. You got to protect your head. Cut off in his office. Up top to Headman. Headman in front. Tipped off the crossbar and it stays out on a nice tip. Here’s Gensel. A shot. And stop that. They can clear up top. Cut. Edmond holds it. Curls back. 15 seconds in the power play. Kudro shoots. Scores. Nikita Ker another power play goal and the Lightning lead 3-1. Great entry into the zone. No danger to it. Complete control. Now here’s the goal. Little pitch and catch. Cucharov with that little stutter step move that he’s so good at. He practices this every day in practice. comes out in in the warm-up before the game and then and they face the New Jersey Devils here on Saturday night. We will have that game for you as well right here on Script Sports wherever you are tuned in from around Florida in Orlando up to Jacksonville from Tampa to Tallahassee record. He likes to get off to a quick start, doesn’t he? Ottawa inside the line. Flipped in the corner. Here’s Zoo. Long shot. Vaselki never saw it. Did that come off the glass and off his back? Yeah. Hit the c hit the goal post. He never moved. He had no idea. Zub shot that from the point. Be honest with you, I didn’t either. His head. He never moves his body. Shot will come from the top left of your screen. Look at the B. Look at the bodies passing in front of Basilki. Zou just kind of flings it at the net. There’s a better look. Yeah. Look at Bass. That’s That’s a seeing eye shot. It’s the perfect shot. It hit the inside of the post. Then it did hit Basilki. He did the right thing. He felt it. Heel spins away from Thomas Shabbat. Return feed intercepted by the Ottawa blue liner. And now here comes Brady Kuck. Twoon one. And shoot. Save Basilki. Ottawa kicks it out. Here’s Zel again. He’s got a man in front. Open save. Basinski pulls flag on Stoutla. Shot number five on the night for Brady Kak. And here’s Pinto. He’s in. He scores. Shane Pinto ties the game for Ottawa. The quick up by Ottawa. Lightning in a partial line change. Things are a little disorganized. Pinto’s got some great hands. That was Zoo. And it was Pinto getting inside position on Radish. Radish is the right D. But when Pinto went from Radish’s side across to the other side of the ice, it was vacant and so he had free rain into the to the goalender Vaselki. Radish had one swipe at you can see tried to get it. Pinto and it frees up that neutral zone area. That usually makes forwards really happy because what they want is a little room between the blue lines. Faceoff sponsored by Room to Go. This third period begins with under two minutes to go in regulation. This one’s cut off by Sanderson. Sanderson’s going to step back in for Ottawa. Sanderson to the net. And Vaselki didn’t have it. It’s tucked in right in front by Ottawa. And with 147 to go, Shane Pinto has got another one. And it’s 43 Senators. Nuke zone on the lightning side, right side of your screen. He stepped in front with lightning forwards, took the puck, and then look at the angle he’s coming in from. Probably his odds are pretty slim of scoring here. I think Radish may be a little surprised that he actually drove it into the blue paint. Vaselpski makes the save cuz there’s not much that Sanderson can do there. And the Lightning tie this thing up and force some overtime here against this division opponent. It’s an empty net and it’s right in the middle from center ice. Is that Cloeru? Yep. Cloeru the old veteran there. Over,00 games in the league. And Cutterov rung the puck around in the offensive zone. But Ottawa could see it coming. They were there. They were able to turn the puck over. Lightning couldn’t keep it in. And then Jeru battles it past. Oh, excuse me. Plenty trailing by two. Radish moves this one across to Headman. Back up top to Radish. Kush to the net and no signal yet. Everybody thought that was in just the crossbar or Yeah, it was hard. I couldn’t tell from here. Really bad angle. Left side of your screen is where the shot’s going to come from. The play is under review to determine if the puck completely crossed the goal line. I can’t even tell for sure on that one. It goes off his shin pad in front of the defender. Yes, that’s in. It’s in. It hit the inside white bar. Goes off the leg. Yeah, it goes off a leg in front. Jensen and hit the white bars. Cucharov will get credit for this one because it went off the Ottawa defenseman. So, no icing and that is going to do it for this game as it’s slapped down and the Ottawa Senators come in here and spoil the party for the Tampa Bay Lightning in their season home opener. [Music]
Shane Pinto scored the go-ahead goal with under two minutes to go in the third period as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4.

A nice way to start the season for the Sens!
Is Tampa trying to be the toughest team this year?
The Sens have had a bunch of fighters over the last 10 years, none of them have won a fight, but they've had them lol
Opening night and we're already 4 pts. out of first. They played 1 good period tonight and couldn't be bothered to show up for the other 2. Ottawa isn't that good but unlike Tampa they played 60 minutes. Looks like Fla. will win a. 3rd cup.
Sens had a slow start but they came around in the second and never looked back. Great game against a very good team in Tampa. Glad Ully got his game back as well looked better as game went on. Go Sens Go!!!
SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENS
Panthers fan here, good job Sens!!! Get wrecked Tampa 🤣🤣
Dude screams like the Lightning just scores in game 7 overtime for the Stanley Cup and then barely makes a peep when the Senators score. What an absolute consummate professional sportscaster…
great poise to stay in it, and some absolute impeccable defense in the 2nd half of the game. lfg
