The 49ers Just Got Unexpected News | San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers just got unexpected news and you’re going to like it. I promise you’re going to like at least three pieces of news that I’m going to share with you today. All fantastic. I’m back from New York City. I’m happy to be back home in Colorado and I’m happy to be sitting in studio talking about the San Francisco 49ers today. Let’s get it going. Hit subscribe if you’re looking for 49ers content like this. But man, Fred Warner said today that Alfred Collins’s punch out was one of the best plays he’s ever seen. And it got me thinking just this season. All right, it would be impossible for me to go with best plays ever for 49ers. That’s a good like off season question because there’s so many to choose from, so many big moments. But just to look at this season so far, I got to know what is the best play of the season so far for you. It’s easy to take football for granted, you guys. Like, we get this opportunity to do this and it’s so fun. I love talking football. I love doing this every day. It’s It’s a great time. And we get to the football games and we get 17 games plus playoffs, right? and and then it’s over and you can easily go a few weeks and you’ve already forgotten what were the biggest game moments in the game against the Seahawks. What were the biggest moments against the Saints? What were the biggest moments against the Cardinals? And some of the biggest moments that come to mind uh are the mistakes the other team made. Some of them are mistakes the 49ers made. Those ones stick out really well. I got a couple for you to choose from. Number one, I’m gonna have to choose Ricky Pierall for both of my offensive nominees. If we were going to choose nominees, so to speak, I would nominate Ricky Piol’s catch from M. Jones on a fourth and one if I’m not mistaken. And it was a deep ball uh uh outside the numbers. It was a beautiful pass. It was a beautiful catch. It was a great play just a couple weeks ago. And then the other one I would nominate from the offensive side of the ball is another Ricky Pieraw catch. And that’s the underthrown ball by Brock Pury. I’m not 100% sure whether it was an intentional throw. Like if he intentionally threw it where only Pieraw could catch it or if he int if he unintentionally threw it short and Ricky Pieraw turns, adjusts his body, catches it onehanded. Unbelievable catch. One of the best catches I have ever seen. It was such a great catch. And uh those are the offensive nominees for me. On the defensive side of the ball, I’d say on Thursday night, we got a couple of great options for some of the best plays of the season so far. And in a season that has mi is missing a lot of takeaways that the 49ers have had not had a bunch of turnovers. Um I’m going to go with uh you got Kyrie Williams on the fourth and one on Thursday night. That’s a candidate. That’s for sure in the in the in the short list, right? Um, you got Upton Stout’s pass break up a couple weeks ago to win against the Cardinals. That’s a candidate for sure. But I have to go with Fred Warner. I have to agree with Fred Warner on Alfred Collins punch out. Like this is one of those fumbles where you don’t even blame the running back. Like if you’re a Rams fan and you’re blaming Kyron Williams for fumbling on the goal line, you have no like seriously there’s there’s no reason to argue about that. The guy got absolutely mowled by a bear. His head was coming off and the the football came out. I mean, Alfred Collins punched him so hard that he took his head off and hit the ball in the same punch, you know, whatever. I get it. As a fan, you’re like, come on. You can’t spit it up on the one yard line. That’s one of those ones where I’m like, dude, by the time his hand got to the ball, his head was really confused about what was going on in the world. You know what I mean? It was a knockout punch with a ball attached to the bottom of it. Like, you know, I’m not going to give Kairen Williams a hard time for that one, but also he’s on one of my fantasy teams, so I guess, you know, I you know, whatever. He still had a great fantasy game even even against that. Let me know what you guys think on all of those. I’m really genuinely curious. But let’s get to some news, which is what you clicked on the video for. Uh, starting with this one. Uh, you know, I never I never want to talk about other teams deficiencies as we’re going up to play against them, uh, in terms of injuries and stuff and celebrate the injuries cuz ultimately the ultimate scenario, the best case scenario is the best players from the Buccaneers and the best players from the 49ers get to play each other. That is the best case scenario for everybody for the neutral fan, for the for all the fans. Uh that’s that’s the optics. It’s all of it, right? And as a fan, you don’t want to be the team that’s like, “Yeah, we got lucky cuz we happen to play the Buccaneers on the right week and we happen to play these this team on the right week, whatever.” You you want to beat the best teams or whatever. But I do also recognize realistically our chances of beating the Buccaneers are improved when they’ve got so many guys down. They just do, right? They got Bucky Irving down. Um they they’ve got multiple guys down and another one just went down as well. So, uh injury hits keep coming for the Bucks. Corner Zion McCullum had his left hand his left arm in a sling. That was kind of news in the middle of the day today. That kind of ended up being a big news. Kyle Posey did a great job talking about that just saying basically they were without their cornerback one. Um and uh let’s see here what was it? Yeah, Bulls only blitz Darnold 10 times. He’s not going to hang his backups out to dry. The 49ers could face a secondary starting at quarterback four and cornerback five. And uh that’s really important because their defense EPA and I know some people don’t like EPA. I get it. All right. It’s not for everybody, but it is one of the few loaded statistics out there right now for football fans that take into account where you’re at on the field when these plays take place. In other words, if you’re a defense and you stop a team on a fourth and one, it’s more valuable than if you stop the run on a a first and 10, right? Or a first and 15 after a penalty. It takes things into account. So, I like EPA. It’s okay if you don’t, but the 49ers are uh are going up against a defense who is number 27 versus the pass and EPA per dropbacks. Okay, so yikes. That’s good news for the 49ers, bad news for the Buccaneers who are now looking at potentially having their quarterback four and five starting this weekend. Uh, one of the few teams out there who can really sympathize with the 49ers injury situation this year. If you look at Baker Mayfield up there on the QBR leaderboard, he’s only two spots ahead of M. Jones. M. Jones is the re is on there. Um, basically the way they set this up is is only one player per team. And so since M. Jones has more starts than Brock Pury, that’s why he’s on that list in case you’re wondering. Um, Brock Party’s stats were technically higher than that, but uh, you know, a small sample size, only played two games compared to a lot of these guys who played five, right? Um, Baker Mayfield though, two only two spots ahead of M. Jones in total QBR. I thought this was uh great from SF Data Niners. He does a great job with these with all this all these data all these data points. So, you got Mac. Jones sitting at 10th. Bengals swapping Browning for Flacco 29 for 31. That’s fantastic. But we get into that coverage. Okay, we look at the Buccaneers. Where are they at on this list? They’re bottom six, I believe. One, two, three, four, five, six. They’re the sixth worst team in EPA per dropback in the NFL through five weeks. So, this is the team you’re going up against who just got even more injured. Again, not celebrating injuries. Like, I’m here for the spectacle. I’m here for the Niners to be as good as they can possibly be to play the best teams and beat them and have no arguments about beating them. And everyone can agree they’re a hard team to beat. And that’s how good the 49ers are. That’s what I want to see. But the more that you see these stats, like the more that you’re like, man, the 49ers situation has definitely improved considering who’s going to be out there and they’re going to have an opportunity. So, a team who’s been real pass heavy so far this season, who struggled to get the run game going, they’re not going to have an easier time running the ball against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but but they will probably continue, I’m guessing, uh, that pass heavy offense this weekend. They will come in more rested than the Buccaneers. And, uh, they’re going to be targeting those those defensive backs. Don’t you think they’ve got to be targeting those young corners? Quick pause in the video. I want to tell you about a new partner I’m really excited about and that is Chomps. I don’t know if you’ve had one of these before. Uh I was not a big beef stick fan growing up. My wife bought me some Chomps and I absolutely love them. Zero gram of sugar, 10 gram of protein, 100 calories, fits perfectly into my diet and what I’m looking for. All grass-fed beef. It’s solid and it tastes really good. I really wasn’t a beef stick fan growing up and now I am. I started this summer, I haven’t told you guys this, but I started the summer at 205 pounds. Really focusing on my diet this summer, trying to turn some things around. I’m down to 191 pounds right now at the end of summer. And these types of snacks are perfect fits for me. I’ve got a couple flavors here that I love. This is the the original beef flavor. And then I have the smoky seasoned barbecue flavor right here. These are delicious and they’re they’re great onthe-go snacks. You can throw them in your gym bag. You can put them in your backpack, in your car. You can throw them in your desk at work. And they’re fantastic. They’re worth every single penny to me. You can find out more about them by clicking the link in my description to order some for yourself. But the big thing for me is it’s a snack I don’t feel guilty about. I love every second of it, the taste of it. I like the aftertaste of it. And I’m genuinely a diehard fan. I went from having never tried this before to being a diehard immediately. And that’s not me just blowing smoke. I genuinely mean that. I’m telling you the truth. You should definitely consider checking out Chomps. Okay, injury updates for the 49ers. Um, some good stuff mixed in here as well. By the way, I said good unexpected news. I’ve got more for you here, so don’t go anywhere. Kyle Shanahan saying that Brock Pury will not go on injured reserve. That hasn’t been a thought. He’s progressing well. I talked to you guys about this after the game saying one of the best pieces of news of the day uh uh you know two days after the game took place. I talked about it um after we’ve kind of absorbed the game. Let’s point it let’s pay attention to the fact that Brock Pury didn’t get put on IR. And it’s a disadvantage to put him on IR after the game because now that’s a fifth game that is a minimum loss. So they try to make these decisions before the games. The fact they didn’t put him on IR made me feel like they’re not gonna put him on on IR. Um, and then on top of that, and they had to make a rush decision on that one because of Thursday night, but then you got Kyle Shanahan basically confirming they’re not going to put him on injured reserve. That’s fantastic news that he’s progressing well. He’s not ready yet, but he will be in the near term, at least nearer than if he had to sit out for four games or now three more games. The 49ers have opened the practice window for Kevin Given. Completely unexpected report. Did not see this coming. He had that torn pec if I remember correctly uh in training camp. So, that’s huge news. He was looking good if I do remember correctly. Uh but boy, the defensive line could really use some guys who’ve been out there and have some significant snap counts in their history. Kevin Given would be one of those guys. So, I’m excited. He’s not he’s not going to make up for, you know, like he he’s not a uh everything we’re hoping CJ West or um Alfred Collins are going to be like he’s not like he’s not a game changer in that regard. He’s not a Forest Buckner, right? But he is a solid player and we will benefit having him. We desperately need the depth right now um at the tackle position and he might even I mean at the beginning of the season it looked like he was going to be a starting defensive tackle with all these young guys. So, he’ll be rotating in there for sure. M. Jones will be limited in practice today. Uh, but nothing to be too concerned about yet. Kyle Shanahan says there’s a chance George KD is back next week versus Atlanta. Does not sound like Ben Bart will be ready for uh for that week quite yet. So, that’s probably two weeks for Ben Bart. Malik Mustafa said he expects to play this weekend against the Buccaneers. Now, that’s Malik saying he believes he should play. Kyle Shanahan was not as confident, but Kyle also does play things close to the chest and when he doesn’t have to commit, he tries not to. Uh, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but it is exciting that that’s how good Malik feels after practice today. That’s how good he felt about uh being able to play this weekend. Um, and then while there is bad news that there are 18 players on the 49ers injury report today, the good news is, and actually there’s another guy missing here we’re going to talk about in a second, but Connor Colby, Colton McKivitz, and D. Winters are not listed on the injury report. That’s huge news, guys. Huge news. D. Winters especially, but Conor Kby, because you’ve got Ben Bart out for another two more weeks. Uh, Colt McKiv outside of Thursday, he’s been pretty solid this year. Uh, so you definitely need your right tackle. Uh, and it seems like Kobe will be the left guard for the next two weeks if he stays healthy, I should add. Kyle Shanahan, Ben Bart is not on track to be activated from IR next week. Uh, okay. Pressure leaders among rookie defenders heading into week six. Tied for second, but technically third if you count the fact that James Pierce Jr. has only played four games. He’s he’s a game behind maybe everybody else. Whatever. Mike Williams though is tied for second in pressures among rookie defenders. I want to like take a second, okay, who by the way, big news today that I have not seen anyone reporting and so I’m afraid I might have it wrong because I heard on the radio uh with confidence that Mike Williams was a full participant today, but I didn’t hear a whole lot of talk about him. He was a little banged up after the game. So anyway, people are not talking about that, but I I believe that’s I believe that to be the case. The thing that’s crazy about this, you guys, Mike Williams, who was horrible the first week, double teamed more than anybody else in the NFL. That’s Mike Williams. And he had a bad first game and bad first introduction to the NFL. It was a welcome to the NFL kind of game. Mike Williams has quietly been significantly better than people are giving him credit for. No, he is not the pass rush threat of even Bryce Huff. He’s not He wasn’t brought in to be a great pass rush threat. He was brought in for two reasons. Number one, he’s great at setting the edge. At least he was in college and they believed that he was the best in all of the draft this year in setting the edge. Number two, stop the run. And number three, the guy’s body, he he he just has unbelievable numbers uh and athleticism, and they believe that someday that’s going to convert to sacks. So, they do believe that he’ll become better at that. And if you can get a guy who can stop the run and is going to improve in pass rushing, that’s a great opportunity. Who has an unbelievable athleticism, like that’s that’s a good opportunity. So, all of that being said, uh, you know, for Mike El Williams to be in a in his rookie season when nobody’s really expecting him to impact the game at that level in pass rush. Um, that’s pretty exciting. And remember, he just barely turned 21. He is very, very young. That has me really excited about the long f long-term future of this young guy. Um, I wonder had he had one more year in college, let’s say, like what things might look like for him if he would look a little bit more like uh not Nick Bosa in terms of like body types different, but in terms of impact in the game uh because he had impact. But all that being said, that’s really cool to see Mike Williams up there. You know, happy for him to be on that list and excited that he’s not on the injury report right now. Um 49ers did make a couple moves. We should talk about those as well. The 49ers signed Bruce Hector to the practice squad, released Jaylen Mahoney. The team has plenty of injuries along the Dline, including Alfred Collins, uh CJ West, Kalia Davis, and Yeer Gross Matoss. Uh they could elevate Evan Anderson. Okay, last year better than this year so far from what we’ve seen, but okay, they could elevate Evan Anderson or don’t forget his name, Sebastian Valdez. the Hulk himself. Uh Sebastian Valdez had a fantastic training camp and preseason. Um and you know, he didn’t make the initial 53, but but was able to be kept around. Basically, 24 hours past he’s able to be kept around. Um so stuck around with the team and now he’s getting a shot potentially. Uh says Matt Barl. That would be great if they do need the depth. I would love to see Sebastian Valdez kind of going with the hot hand scenario there. uh based on what he did in training camp and and uh uh preseason, I’m gonna put him over Evan Anderson from what we saw this year. Um I would put him over him in terms of giving him a shot to see what he can do to impact the play. Similar to a Travis Gibson type uh in terms of like, hey man, he’s he’s impacting plays. We’re noticing him. I get it. It’s preseason, but give the guy a shot. Um, Evan Anderson had a decent preseason last year and had some really good moments in the NFL when needed last year as well. So, I’d like to see the same opportunity given to Hulk himself, but we’ll see how it all plays out. Let me know what you guys think. As always, in the comments, appreciate all of you guys. We’re four days away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they’re playing at that better time slot, which is great for the 49ers. They got moved to that uh uh 1:00 time slot Pacific, right? And uh they were originally going to be a morning game, a 10 a.m. game. So to travel to the East Coast and play uh at what would be 100 p.m. Eastern, right? Um you know, that early game is just a a horrible thing to a have a team do. Going from all the way from coast to coast, that’s a brutal from the northwest essentially to the southeast. That’s that’s a that’s a long drive, a long flight. Um, a lot of jet lag, a lot of long time in the air, all that. So, I’m excited that the 49ers get uh that better time slot that’s going to drastically improve their chances um at being at the best at their best energy and their body clock not being at 10:00 a.m. uh local time. So, it’s all really good. I’m stoked about that. Um I think they have a really good shot. It’s going to be a very tough test, a very tough team, but I think I’ve said that several times this season and I know I’ve said that several times this season and so far the 49ers are sitting 4-1, baby. Let’s go. Appreciate you guys and hope you guys have a fantastic rest of your evening. That’s all I got for you.

Biggest Moments (so far).
All the injuries. Follow me for a moment.
Presuming the 49ers go to and win the Super Bowl. They may not have done this without all these injuries. It allowed players to develop. It allowed players to step up and be the next man. Sometimes adversity is the best form of development.
I really like your videos brother. You get right to the point and you just keep on feeding us nuggets. I hate the way people spend forever trying to get to the point it just makes me click away. Good job man. 👍
Brock Purdy and Tonges throw and catch to beat Seattle in Seattle.
We got a kicker that can actually kick💯
Dude. Tonges catch in the end zone week 1.
The RB had the responsibility on 4th and 1 to have two hands on the ball, he didn't, resulting in a fumble. 100% his fault. 2 hands, no fumble, it's just that simple.
