  1. I like lumbard. Being bilingual should almost be a requirement imo for all managers. The ability to communicate with your players is paramount. I’d be shocked if a lot of these former players who are now managing can’t at least speak rudimentary Spanish. 2 years of high school Spanish the basics and working in construction since college and now owning a company it’s been insane how helpful it’s been.

  2. My list starts with Travis D’arnoud. I know it’s not happening but when I think who would be the absolute BEST guy to lead our team for the next 5-10 years that’s who I keep circling back to. A staff of D’arnoud, wash as bench coach, chipper jones as hitting coach, kranny stays as pitching coach, Andruw jones at 3rd, and Andrelton Simmons at 1st, that would be awesome. We would be the most prepared team in baseball.

Now realistically I would put gibbons as the favorite. He checks a lot of boxes but isn’t young. After him Lombard, flaherty, Rickey weeks, Ross, Weiss, and derosa are all candidates to get interviewed. Bochy makes sense to me. We are in our window to win. We need a captain, I would not be surprised if aa went with a vet manager but it’s aa, we could list 30 names and his guy might not be on there.

  3. Longtime sports writer Peter Gammons always spoke very highly of George Lombard and his entire family back when the Braves drafted Lombard.
Gammons was then writing and speaking on talk shows out of Boston. So the personality and the character are there, according to Gammons.

  4. Jake, what is wrong with Joe Maddon? He has won a world series for the Cubs and seems to be popular with the players. I think l would like either Maddon or Weiss #1and the other as #2. Lombard as #3.
