(SNY) Cody Bellinger says he’d welcome a return to the Yankees if he opts out of his contract:

“I had an unbelievable time putting on this uniform. Yankee Stadium, the fans, the organization, the culture that these guys have created in this locker room. It’s special.”

  1. I’d love to have Cody back, but I’m not holding my breath. Dude seems to prefer the west coast

  2. The contract he’s gonna command in this market is going to be extremely uncomfortable for what he is.

  3. I like Bellinger but the money he’s going to want compared to his output is going to be rough.

  4. I’d take him back on a decent contract because he seemed to start picking it back up with us.
Belli and Tucker would be a nice off season but we’ll see.

  5. I love Belli. He came in clutch in so many games. But he also didn’t get on base a lot. We need someone else. I will miss yelling “BELLLLLAYYYYYYYYYY” from my couch.

  6. That’s way different from what Juan Soto said after the last WS game last year.

  7. I really feel like putting Jason Giambi at first base next year is the right move. Whatdya think Mike? I’ll hang up and listen.

  8. I know he’ll want to finally get paid but I’m really, really hoping he stays. He was born to be a Yankee.
Either way thank you Cody. Enjoyed watching you. True professional.

  9. I’d like to see him back, he was solid on the field and in the clubhouse. It’s gonna cost some $$$ but I think he’s worked out the issues he had a few years ago. And we clearly need the bat and defense he brings.

  10. I think the team needs to seriously consider selling and cutting costs and really committing to a rebuild. But if we really are going to play the game of band-aiding a $300M boondoggle that has taken a decade to accumulate, again!, we need him, and alternatives exist but only worse and more expensive ones.

  11. Belli is a better fit for YS left field than Tucker, but I feel if we’re going to sign him, we’re going to get Gardner-level production at a much higher price point.
I’d love to re-sign him if get more offense and on-base elsewhere on the roster at 3B or SS or whatever.

  12. This guy isnt Juan Soto. He would definetely leave some money on the table to be a Yankee, and at that point I think we take him.

  13. .660 OPS in 76 postseason games. He’s a great everyday player but we need hits under pressure.

  14. Yankees have a bunch of players with a a low to middling average and obp but good power who K a lot

  15. At least he didn’t pull the typical post-game antics like most Boras clients. He actually had team apparel on, spoke about the team in a positive matter, etc…

I bet he wants to be here but also realizes he’s probably going to be too pricey.

  16. Appreciate what he did here but you gotta let Dominguez and Jones play everyday imo.

  17. I’d rather roll out Tucker, Dominguez and Judge. Tucker has been a more consistent playoff performer.

  18. I have had the softest spot for Belli ever since I drafted him on my fantasy team yeaaaaars ago when he had his breakout season and have followed him ever since. I want them to resign him so bad.

  19. Rather have Bellinger then Tucker any day of the week but I still think we should at least look at Bichette this offseason. We have had a hole at ss for years and bichette would be a great leadoff hitter for judge something we sorely lacked in the playoffs. Plus i feel its easier to develop/ find steals in the of vs ss as we have seen how bad every infield prospect we have has turned out

  20. Bellinger must be brought back. He’s ability to play all three (3) outfield positions and 1st base at an elite level says it all. I cant see them bringing back Goldy; so is Rice the 1st baseman of the future? Which is why, in my opinion, they have to bring Belli back.
The Yankee bullpen must be built from within. There are arms in the system (Lagrange, Hess, Cunningham, Ramirez, etc…), not everyone can be a starter. Rotation if healthy at some point will be Cole / Fried / Rodon / Gil / Schlitter with guys like Schmidt and Warren on the outside looking in.

If Spencer Jones is for real and ready for everyday play, Dominguez has to be the odd man out. Grisham walks. They have to move on from Volpe and Wells (in my opinion). Chisholm and all his Jazz will be the 2nd baseman because there is team control at a reasonable price tag. They need a 3rd baseman. McMahon is great defensively and he definitely showcased that during this postseason but there is little to no offensive production and that position requires more offensively.

There’s just so much to talk about with this club. We can all go on and on and on.

Ultimately, it’s just another failed season. Another wasted MVP season. I really hope Judge isn’t this generations Don Mattingly. From ‘84 a ‘89, Mattingly was one of the best players in the game and probably should have won more than just one MVP. Those were great Yankee teams, with great players, that couldn’t get it done. And this feels the same.

This team has been littered with individual achievements (cy young, ROY, MVP’s) and has nothing to show for it collectively.

Like I said, another failed season and just beyond frustrating.

  21. I’ll never understand these guys. If you show some loyalty you can make fuckloads of additional money through marketing and deals in nyc. Way more than the like $5million extra some team might pay him. Penny wise pound foolish.

  22. Well if it comes down to Kyle Tucker or Cody its a no-brainer Cody all the way. The guy brings it all days on defense and offense.

  23. Bellinger is what I want all Yankees to be, a smart, well rounded class act ballplayer. I really hope he’s back next year and even if we get Tucker over him or something it’ll still be sad to see him go. Thanks for the great year Belli

  24. Keep Belli, honestly bring back the pen, get a third baseman, fire Boone, hire Bochy and get get an actual hitting coach

  25. Don’t do it! As long as that incompetent clown Boone is in the dugout you will NEVER win a championship.

  26. I have nothing bad to say about Cody Bellinger as far as this season goes. GG caliber defense, versatile, extremely valuable. He’s not the type of talent you let go in this market. At the same time, he’s also someone who has traditionally not hit well in the post season outside of maybe a couple of series. Going back to the dynasty years, I recall Tino was very much like this. What we need is a Bernie Williams or Derek jeter, someone who will rise to the occasion, not shrink from it. Considering the contract he’s going to command, it’s hard to justify, especially when metrically Bellinger doesn’t seem like someone who would age very well.

  27. Bellinger is an odd duck as a free agent. When he’s good, you can see why he got 3 years/$80M, why he got ROY and MVP… when he’s not good, he looks downright borderline DFA/Quadruple-A level.

In a just world, we’d split the difference and say “you’re worth $50M a year on your best days and you’re worth bupkis on your worst days- $25M a year.” But we live in a world where players want to increase their salaries by a few million a year as if to “keep salaries from stagnating” etc. and so I realize we will have to give him $30M to $35M a year to keep him.

And if we give him 5 years/$160M… even 7 years/$235.2M or… gulp… 8 years/$300M or something insane like that, it’d be… steep but I understand why. And I am basically okay with it.
