INSTANT REACTION – Bruins Secure 4-3 Overtime Win Against Blackhawks

[Music] [Applause] Twoon one with Geeky Hon came on his stick. Walks in shoots. He scores. Bruins win. This is Bruins overtime live presented by bioteyota.com. 43 the final in overtime. Man, that was fun you guys. Uh the third period full of energy. Overtime. So much fun. I was actually watching the TD Garden crowd. Everyone was on their feet for the whole 5 minutes. Game two only. Hell, this is crazy. That was mint. That was Oh no. You promised you wouldn’t do a pun for a month. I made a promise, Barry. It’s too late. But it was mint. guys. So much fun. And we’ll talk about it. Mitten, Corposal. Mitten wouldn’t have had that goal if it wasn’t for three amazing saves by Corposal. But the physicality, the energy. I said this team was going to be fun to watch. And they have been. And they have. Yes. I thought you were going to finish it. No, I was waiting for you to confirm that. Yeah. No. Uh I I mean this was a kind of a ride the elevator up and down game physically and mentally type game, partner. It was um not always pretty. And then you kept telling yourself, it’s the second game of the year. It’s back to back. You know, their mindset last night was really focused, very much involved physically against Washington. And then this one, at times they were, and at other times I thought they were mentally just not sharp, and therefore their puck management wasn’t great. But when it was all said and done, I think Chicago helped get their attention with some physical stuff in the third. Corposal comes through, and then yeah, the youngster Minton with a beautiful shot. Yeah, I think I asked you about halfway through the third if you’d be happy with three or four and you got greedy and said no, you wanted your home. I want the four and you got him. And I thought uh secondary scoring came out today. It’s a a big kill in that third when Makavoy went off and he’s and no Lind Holmes. He’s off there too. There’s your top three D are in there and all of a sudden you’re trying to do some killing and they did a great job there. And then as Sofh said, Corpusal and Sodloom made some huge saves as well on both ends. That was kind of the action. You were going back and forth, back and forth. And boy, to come out of this uh to start this season where you’re trying to make baby steps in so many ways and improve your game coming out of training camp. It’s been a great start. It sure has. So Fraser Mitten, he got his first with the Boston Bruins this year and he is our walk-off. Standing by with Andrew Rayoff. Let’s listen in and then we’ll talk about it. You couldn’t draw that up much better than that. OT winner, home opener. How good does that feel? Yeah, great. I think we were uh coming on strong there in the third and preserved it. Corp bailed us out and uh nice to win in front of the fans. Yeah, how about those saves from Corpy and the especially in overtime. The two big ones going to his right and then on Bardarden on the breakaway. Huge huge effort from both goalies in both games. Yeah, Corp was unreal. He uh he deserved that first start tonight. He was keeping us in it there in OT and uh hell of a game by him. You led the Forwards in PK last night as well. So, a big two nights for you uh taking on that third line center roll. What’s the What’s the vibe? What’s the sense from you over those two games? Yeah, I think solid. Just uh continue to work on on some timing on the faceoff so I can uh get out there for some more uh defensive zone shifts, stuff like that. But overall, pretty good. Well, you can work with uh Coach Kell’s uh on Saturday morning with those. Great job. Congrats. Enjoy that win. Yeah, thank you. You got Oh, what a humble kid. Okay guys, it was so good. We got to show it to you again. Here it is. Yeah, he’s coming down and as Brick says he, you know, he just keeps improving his angle, Billy. And you know, Geeki’s over there going, “Hey, if you want to give it to me, man, I’m wide open. I’m ready. I’m ready.” And he goes, “Ah, are you kidding me? I’m going to keep improving and take advantage of that opportunity.” Now, there’s improved. And I don’t know if we can go back to this here. Watch this. If we slow it down, watch his shoulder right there by that little fake that drops it. And and Derek, our producer, here we go. go real slow and watch what’s going to happen as he drops the shoulder. Renzel then also tries to fake it. But that just gives him the literally one extra little stride to as you always say Barry to make his angle better just and he’s a lefty. So he’s got the stick to the inside and he beats him blocker side right there. But you know Renzel is I think trying to bait him into passing the puck over there and Mitten doesn’t fall for it. Yeah. And that whole twoonone is all created because Zidorov down in the corner wins a one-on-one battle. So all of a sudden he wins that battle. They’re able to turn around and take advantage of a twoon-one. Now I like Dudar’s game tonight. Yeah. And can you He was nice and physical, wasn’t he? Do not jump ahead, mister. Now we’re going to be talking about Zidora for 5 minutes. I got stuff to throw to. Give me a second. But it’s it’s early season for me. Oh god. No. I have a serious question. We talked about in pregame I mean sorry preseason. We talked about how Fraser Mitten has this confidence, not cockiness, but this he had some great passes, some beautiful reads. Here you have Morgan Geeky. He knows what a season Morgan Geeki had last year and he elects to shoot. Would every young player do that or is that a special quality to have that that confidence be like, “No, I’m taking the shot.” I don’t think every young player would do that. I I I think he understood. And by the way, it was the right play. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Correct. Right. And and I I I think that what he did is he he was thinking about passing at some point, but I think he is smart enough and he understood I’m still taking inside ice and a little more inside ice and a little more and eventually if I pass that I’ve actually probably maybe put Kiki into a little bit of a tougher spot and Renzel never closed on him. Now Renzel because he’s a righty, he’s going to take away that pass the defender and Mitten is going to go one-on-one with Soderblum. That’s that’s what I guarantee that’s what the the defenseman’s thinking right there. But Mitten to his credit says, “I’m confident and I’m on this inside ice.” And I thought that was kind of a nice reward for his game overall game. He he was really solid. U you know, Razer talked about his penalty killing there in his interview with him and he was uh defensively his line, the third line was solid all night long. Rick kept talking about momentum that they were getting. So to me that was a reward about the young kid being out there in overtime having that opportunity. That just shows how much confidence the coach is getting him. And in the end of the third period, he was out on the ice. Okay, we’re going to go to our star of the game. It’s time to take over our Subaru star of the game, Subaru of New England. And that being Yonas Corposalo. I said it already. This is his career against the Blackhawks, but tonight he was huge. We wouldn’t have had that goal. He didn’t make three huge saves in overtime and some big ones all night long. Oh, did he ever. My shoulder sore from Billy when he I thought he had this guy couple of wide opens, man. And you were jumping, hopping, and punching me right here. I thought, “Oh, no, that’s it.” What a save. And as the guys had talked about it as the overtime went on, he just kept giving his team a chance. And here’s a breakaway with Bernard, who was dangerous all Yeah. And he was dangerous all night long, Billy. He was. You know what? I didn’t love Bard’s game here last year when he came to town late in the season. Agree. I got to tell you what, I I liked it tonight. I did. He was noticeable. What a save. That’s my That That Barry Peterson, that is a you era save right there. I mean, seriously, look at that. Old school great reaction from Corposalo coming over getting the inside part of that right arm on it. That was a great instinct instinctual read getting over there. Um in overtime before overtime we were talking about the lineup that the Blackhawks have for that kind of hockey. And while you know you understand that this is a team that is literally rebuilding a work in progress, whatever cliche you want to use, they got some pretty good threeon-ree players out there. They did. And and the fun part too about after Mitten’s goal, you know, usually your your team’s going right over to congratulate him. Well, half went there and then the other half went down to Corpus Salo as Brick had talked about to congratulate him because he gave him a he gave them a chance to win that game. It felt like a lot more to me at least. It felt like a lot more than 24 shots, but 24 shots for the Chicago Blackhawks in this the third period alone. Up and down, up and down, which is perfect transition to where we’re going now. We’re here for how come you don’t yell at him? Well, because he goes in, you take me all over the show. Oh, I’m kidding. I’m kidding. All right, we’re moving on to You can’t yell at Barry. No, I can’t. Uh, over to the third. He has good jokes, too. To the third period chances now. I know you’re lying for both for both teams, I think. Or are we taking a look at the Bruins uh third period chances right now? I think uh the bees. Okay, starting on the power play here. Yeah. Um you know, the power play got pretty good in that third period. It didn’t get the finish that we kept thinking they were going to get and we were waiting for a geeky or a pasta one-time or the type of thing, you know, and they just never completely clicked. This is the second unit that finished up out there as well. But what we like we thought is they moved the puck up the ice like you know right here a good entry. Simple little things and while they didn’t score, they they didn’t lose momentum and that was important. Yeah. And you know, we we talked about it uh in the second period break going into the third period, the power play. We wanted to see some urgency on that five on three and it was there. They scored what 15 seconds into it. And on this one too, I thought as well they were being much more aggressive at taking the puck to the net and and not shooting from the outside, getting back in there and being dangerous. I thought it was much uh much more prolific and much and a lot more opportunities in that third period. Yeah. I mean, you know, last year we kept saying, “All right, you’re, you know, you’re not going to score in every power play. We get that. We can accept that.” But it was so infrequent that they scored and how more often than not they lost any good energy, good vibes, anything. And the opponent was able to take over the feel of the game, the vibe. Again, just two games in, but at least we’re seeing entries and opportunity. That’s the most and now and and if you get one power play goal a game, you’re not doing that bad. And on the flip side, these two games, you have to give the penalty killers a lot of credit as well. You know, both sides of the specialy teams, the Bruins have won and it’s been very instrumental in two victories early on here in the season. I was just looking. 0 for three. The Chicago Blackhawks 0 for three. Okay guys, let’s take a look at the physicality on the both sides really, but the Boston Bruins in the third period. Nikita Zadora with some hits, scrums in front of the net. Oh, Zadorov was not only on the boards down in these corners, Billy, but right here. Oh, he makes a run. That was a young man. When you when you make that turn, you cannot turn back against it, can you, Big? No, not when the guy Zidoro is allowed to that ice. Yeah. All right. He’s He’s allowed to. And Denzel and Rick talked about it. He turned back and uh Zidor’s already committed, but Zidorov seven hits in this game. Very much saying, “All right, look, I I you know, I don’t care how big or how small you are. I’m I’m going to be involved.” And um I liked his effort. I I I did in this one. third period got feisty and it’s good for both teams. You know, the the the Hawks are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers in opening night two nights ago. They’re looking to get on it and and here they they I give them credit. You know, they showed up. They got involved. They don’t have they have big guys, but I wouldn’t call them physical, overly tough, physical, right? But the young guys and some of the small guys got totally involved as well. And it it did make for an entertaining third period. It really did. You can see that the Bruins, you know, they wanted to get those four points, but Chicago didn’t want to lose two in a row. No. You know, and that’s good for a young team like that that’s trying to rebuild on the fly here. Seven hits for Nikita Zidorov. If we do see that one again on Renzel, I’ll try to pull it up in the game. Take a look at the fan behind the glass. Her face is in shock.

Bruins secured a home opener win in overtime against the Blackhawks. Sophia, Billy, and Barry break down the win during the post-game show.
