TLDW:
– Not unprecedented rehab timeline, slightly early, but it's nothing miraculous/groundbreaking
– Got the surgery where instead of just suturing the tendons together, they also add bone anchors in the heel bone to anchor sutures to provide additional support/reinforcement to the tendon which does allow quicker rehab timeline than just regular repair
– Could feasibly return within 8-10 months with 8 months out being January after the all star break

Finally. Too many people have been getting my hopes up that it’s some insane recovery rate. He still might be way worse of a player with the injury. I pray he’s not obviously but gotta pump the brakes.
I’m just glad they used the more advanced surgery with bone anchors for reinforcement. I don’t care if he takes 10 months to recover, I just want him to be 100% healthy when he finally steps back on the court for the playoff push.
> Return to sport, 6+ months
I think a lot of people are probably being too cautious with this. I’ve been saying he could be back by the playoffs because the initial timeline was 8-10 months and the playoffs would be 11 months.
Even if it took him longer to “return to sport”, let’s say 8 months, he would then have 3 months to get himself into playoff shape.
If he was back by the All-Star break, that’s “return to sport” at 7 months with 2 months of getting himself ready for the NBA and about 2 months of playing in the NBA before the playoffs. Even that wouldn’t be rushing things, according to the paper referenced.
People also forget that JT had the Achilles surgery like immediately since he was already in NYC and the surgeon had an opening.
Most athletes have to wait a few days to travel to the best surgeon and get an appointment.
We should have expected his recovery to be faster.
