Postgame Availability | NYI vs PIT (10/9/25)

take us through your uh your assist there. Yeah. Um I mean the guy I mean our team is uh it’s so easy to make plays with them and everyone’s in the right spot. So um yeah, I mean I found uh Joe there and you know it was an easy you know pass to him and of course he puts him in the back of the net. So um yeah I mean I’ I’d have to thank my teammates for that cuz they’re always in the right spots. How’d you feel as the game wore on? Yeah, felt good. Obviously you know first couple shifts you get um you know the jitters out I guess and then you roll from there. So, um, yeah, it was a great experience and it was, uh, you know, a good a good first game for sure. Matthew, is there a little bit of a sense of relief to get that first point out of the way first game? Yeah, you don’t really think about it that much. I mean, honestly, I think, um, you know, the win would have been a little bit nicer. Uh, you know, you want to roll, you want to go as far as you can with the team. So, honestly, just learn from it. Obviously, we got beat uh in the third there in transition, but um, I thought we played fast. uh played on our toes. I I think we can do a little better uh job um being more aggressive in our Dzone. Um but it was a lot of good things and and overall um a lot of positives to take out of it. Kind of worked on your line in terms of you first game together as a trio. Uh we kept it simple. I I think we’re all familiar with each other and working pretty much all of camp together. Um and I think it was uh we were excited to go. Um thought thought there was a lot of good shifts and uh a lot of good things. Um it was nice to get on the board and uh we’ll just keep trying to build and and make an impact every night. Not the result you wanted as a team, but for Shabbanov and and Schaefer to both hit the score sheet, how meaningful is that? Yeah, I mean I hope they had an awesome time. Uh your first game, you you’ll always remember it. Uh, I hope they they took a second to to kind of soak it all in today. Um, and enjoyed themselves. So, it was a fun game. It was a good atmosphere. Um, and I’m sure they’re they’re both looking forward to to going home and and getting a warm welcome from our fans, too. You talked about the the things your team did well tonight. How can you carry that into Saturday’s home opener? Yeah, I mean, the the positives where I I thought we played uh played fast and and that’s what we want to do. We want to be in teams faces and and put some pressure on them, make them uncomfortable. So, um especially on our home ice, we want that building to be a tough one to play in and uh starts with Saturday. Result you wanted, but how did you feel your team played overall and the pace in that one? Well, I thought I thought we played a good game uh well enough to win. Um but again, um we’re not here for moral victory. We we want to win games and and we’re certainly not satisfied. We want more, but um we did a lot of good things. Um I like the pace. I like the way we um we played uh five on five. I mean, ping killing was good. Um we just need to be maybe a little bit better around our net, clean the net front. I mean, that’s how they scored their two goals on rebound and plays. So, overall, I mean, I thought we generate some offense. I thought the probably the key key play in that game could be the save on PJO in that second period would have give us a 3-1 lead. But um these are if so like I said what did you make of his NHL debut? I thought he was really good. Um he was good at the end. He was throwing pucks at the net. I thought that he he seems very very comfortable and very confident out there. So I’m very pleased with him. What did you think of Excuse me. What do you think of Siobhan? Yeah, I was happy for him to see him score. I thought he compete. I thought he was skating well. I thought he did a lot of good things out there. Yeah, very happy with him. Did Matthew earn his time six on five at the end or is that how you were practicing it? Well, I mean um yes, he he does deserve that uh to be there. But the guys stayed there what three minutes something maybe four. I mean it was a lot for Tony. So it was DAngelo. So it was good for him to go in and step in. the other guys seemed pretty fresh. So, hey, we tried we tried to score. We almost scored at the end when we uh uh on short-handed on Barz’s play. So, uh would have been a long kill because we had four five minute major, but overall I mean I I loved their resilience how resilient our guys were. Sorry, how resilient our guys were and and I thought that’s we did a lot. But again, we’re not satisfied. We want more. What did you think of the power play? It seemed like you guys were able to get chances there, but obviously nothing went. Well, the first thing I noticed is our entry. Our entry were really good. I mean, we we establish oursel. We have, you know, there’s one thing that really wants is is is more like puck possession and and I think that’s what we have tonight. That’s a that’s a big plus. Uh now I mean it’s the matter of finish around the
