The Oklahoma Sooners add a talented defensive prospect to their 2026 recruiting class. Jacob Curry out of Ponte Vedra Beach (Fla.) Nease has announced via social media his official OU commitment.
Curry becomes the 21st member of Oklahoma’s current 2026 commit class. He’s the 11th defensive player to pledge and the third linebacker of the group.
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, the world of recruiting combines to see Curry as the No. 410 overall recruit in the 2026 recruiting class. The four-star also checks in as the No. 32 safety nationally and the No. 57 player in the state of Florida.
As for 247Sports’ rankings, there Curry stands as a high three-star talent. He also checks in as the No. 79 safety across the ’26 cycle and the No. 96 prospect inside the talented Sunshine State.
Curry features plenty of versatility, but Oklahoma is bringing him in as a linebacker. The Sooners could also utilize his skillset at the Cheetah position within their defensive system. Curry is a former Northwestern commit who decommitted from the Wildcats shortly after picking up the OU offer. He chooses Oklahoma over Ohio State, Baylor, Auburn and Florida State, among others.
“A surreal moment,” Curry previously told Sooners Illustrated. “Not just because it was an offer from the University of Oklahoma, which is big time in itself, but also because Nate Dreiling was the first coach to ever offer me back in the fall of 2023 when he was coaching at a different school… Everyone drives home the culture of OU and how great of a fit I’d be for the program.”
“I think of a tough program rich in a history of winning,” Curry said when asked about Oklahoma. “The culture they have, it’s somewhere I want to be… I can just feel the bond they have together and the family unit they’ve built. My grandpa was born not too far from Norman, too, in Seminole. He was very excited when I got the OU offer.”
In 2024 as a junior, Curry was named the St. Augustine Record’s All-County Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1 and 208-pounder helped lead Nease to an undefeated record in the regular season. Curry finished the year with 101 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hurries, eight sacks, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
The productive second-level defender visited for OU’s win over Auburn, a chaotic game amidst a memorable atmosphere. Curry continued to explore options, but with that experience as the backdrop and relationship in Norman fortified, he chooses to commit to OU and gives the program a ‘perfect fit’ type of prospect for a promising 2026 class.
