He has earned another game!

  1. He will score his first NHL goal tomorrow night in front of his family and friends.

  2. I mean he took petey’s spot for a shift or two, aside from not getting on the scoresheet he’s done very well from himself. Hasn’t gotten ran through and seems to always be in good position

  3. Ooh, maybe they’ll do 9 games in a row for him. I was thinking they’d spread it out but they can’t do that because if they send him to juniors he can’t be called back up.

  4. I am a Foote enjoyer. I trust him to do what’s right for Cootes. His interview after last game sealed the deal.

He talked about Calgary was playing a really physical game so he took extra measure on how / when to use Cootes. A lot more stuff, really. Watch it if you have the time.

& Cootes still hasn’t looked out of place. Foote even gave him a couple of Petey’s shifts when he was being evaluated. I trust Foote to make the right decisions surrounding Cootes.

I’m all for bringing him up permanently if he continues as he has been.

  5. Wanted a point from him so bad yesterday. Calgary should’ve just given him an empty net goal

  6. He didnt really look out of place last night. Granted Calgary rolled over…. Edmonton will be a better test.

  7. Foote’s post game comments were telling that he does like him. He mentioned some key points:

    1. Calgary was getting physical and he wanted to shelter the 18 year old in his first game – understandable

    2. Initial plan was to get him more ice time, but the Canucks were scoring so much, Flames started to get rough

    3. He will get *more* icetime in the near future.

I’m not yet holding my breath that he’ll stay for the whole season, but I like his chances. His skating and awareness is very good for an 18 year old kid in his first NHL game. Take away the nervousness and you will see a much confident player, but it requires the coach to trust him and reinforce him, which Foote is doing perfectly.

No wonder Hughes likes Foote as the head coach.

  8. Even though Bains made a good play on Chytil’s second goal, I think he is more likely for a scratch than Cootes.

  9. Was at the game last night. Cootes looked really good. I was really impressed with his effort level and his poise. He didn’t get flustered in tight spaces, had a good read of the ice and made good plays with very few errors.

He didn’t look out of place at all. My only real question is what is best for him for development. There’s no rush on this kid so let’s let him develop the best way possible, whether that’s at the NHL level or junior/AHL.

  10. Personally I’d suggest giving him solid 3rd line minutes. I know he wanted to be protected in game 1, but game 2 give the kid some leash and see if he can stick with the big boys.

  11. Bro’s going to pay-to-play tomorrow with how many tickets he’s going to have to buy for friends and family.

  12. Guy just graduated high school and gets to go play with McDavid in his hometown a few months later. Nice.

  13. He was well composed and didnt look out of place. not amazing eithet but thats exprcted of an 18yo in his first game

  14. Giving his relatives early warning rather than a last-minute scramble. Good guy Foote.

  15. I’m a little bit nervous about the line matchups with them being on the road, but the kid isn’t going to learn through theory alone. And by all accounts he’s a quick study.
