Over the next few days, I'm going to take a look at all the Rays players that have club options for 2026. First up is SS Taylor Walls.

  1. Despite his offensive struggles, that defense is ELITE. Hard to see the Rays letting him go when he is such a cheap date.

  2. 2.5m for a utility infielder that can switch hit, steal a few bases and play excellent defense? Yes, exercise that option.

    As a starter? Hell no.

Walls giving BLowe a day off, running for Yandy, or a late defensive replacement for Junior is the perfect role for him. He is not an everyday starter. Maybe he starts out of Spring Training while Carson works on pitch recognition or whatever service time manipulation excuse they use, but if the plan is for him to be our SS all season we’re in for a bad time.

  3. Arguably the best defensive-purely shortstop in the league. We’d be stupid to let him go, especially considering his hitting was on the upturn as well. Wait for Carson to come tbrough, give him time, maybe start one of the two every third game to reduce fatigue

  4. The defense will always be paramount to a group like ours.
We kept paying KK while his defense was elite, and I full on expect Kam Misner to get another shot at the ML club because of his defense as well.
