Bo Bichette UPDATE… Could This Spark a Blue Jays Run? (Blue Jays Today Show)

[Music] Hello everybody and welcome in to Blue Jays today everybody where we get to sit back and we don’t get to watch baseball tonight. I’m actually very very happy about that because whilst Seattle and whilst Detroit they are going to be sweating, they’re going to be anxious, they are going to be fighting for their playoff lives, the Toronto Blue Jays have given us the luxury of having a calm, cool Friday night because we know that Sunday at 8:00 there will be another baseball game. We are going to talk about what that upcoming series could look like, whether the opponent be Seattle or be Detroit. We are going to talk about Bo Bashette potentially returning because there’s some optimism surrounding that. Recently, we’re going to discuss what the roster could look like for the ALCS. Do they want to make any changes? And then just overall relish in the depression of Yankee fans. Welcome in everybody. I’m your host Nicholas Player. I’m your host Adam Ple. Welcome to the sports interaction studio everybody. Hello from Amsterdam. Shout out to social. Welcome in everybody. I mean yeah today feels like a very chill stream. I mean yesterday was our first day off in a while and I really got that time to recover. Went out golfing and it’s funny even when I was out golfing many Blue Jay fan hats you know showing or Blue Jay hats around the golf course. Everyone was feeling the pride. You know what I mean? Even me I wore my Blue Jays today hat. Everyone’s like, “Hey, go Jays, go.” I like, “Hey, shout out to you.” But it’s a really good time to be a Blue Jay fan. Uh, I was just saying right before we hit the go live button, man. It feels like we’re playing for free right now because this is the furthest that I’ve ever seen the Blue Jays make it in my lifetime. They’ve only ever won two games in the ALCS in a series. That was against KC 4 to2. They lost that series. So, I feel like the Blue Jays got a good chance to go even further than that. Like I truly believe either whether it be Seattle or whether it be the Tigers. I do have my favorites. We’ll break that down later. But I really do believe this team is different. I think the world is starting to see that this team is different. You made it short about it this morning. Tons of Yankee fans coming out and admitting like, hey, we were talking smack all series, but you know what? GG, you are the better team. And we clearly showed it pounding them like 10 runs, 13 runs, six runs, excuse me, and five runs. We won. There has been a lot of discourse in the Yankee community recently just about how surprisingly good the Toronto Blue Jays are, right? And we weren’t surprised, but they were. And that’s why you saw the cheating allegations earlier in the series. And then after the fact, a lot of them were coming out. John Boy said something like this. Uh Alex Rodriguez was talking about this. Uh just so many Yankee fans online were saying, “That’s a balanced team. That’s a well-rounded team, right? That’s what we want our team to look like. They just hit whatever the the game calls for. They’re on it. That’s what John Boy said. He’s saying, “We got to go out. We got to get David Popkins.” Yeah, he did. Yeah, that’s that’s what the Ch ain’t going to let him have him because like hell not, right? You saw the difference between the two mentalities there, right? There was one squad that’s built off the home run ball and built off of Aaron Judge. And do not get me wrong, when Aaron Judge and that home run ball is cooking, that team looks great. But then you have this other squad, the Toronto Blue Jays. And we had our version of Aaron Judge, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this series doing just as much matching Aaron Judge tit fortat cuz Judge was great. I’ll give him his flowers, right? But Vlatty was right there. But the difference was behind him. You had guys like Ernie Clement batting over 600. You had guys like Golden Vo showing up in a big way. Alejandro Kirk with two bombs. You had guys like Nathan Lucas who I would anticipate a lot of New York Yankee fans probably weren’t even familiar with. I know like this is somebody that you may have never even heard of if you’re a Yankee fan. And lo and behold, when we needed him most when we needed some insurance runs, he comes up with a clutch base knock. So that’s the difference, right? And I’ll throw in another difference right there. I brought this up to you. Do you guys remember that hit by Miles Straw in for the final run the Blue Jays scored in game four? Like it was a perfectly placed pitch. A a slider, a breaking ball away from Miles Straw, who is arguably our maybe 25th man on the roster, probably the 12th position player, 13 being IKF. And what does he do? He puts the ball the other way and gets a base hit, drives in the run. And you had Joe McFly who had that reaction on John Boy Media laughing his head off because he couldn’t believe they kept doing it. Even guys like Miles Straw kept doing it. So yeah, to to defer that point, it’s just unbelievable how well balanced they are this year and that’s why they got a chance to win the World Series and they’re not going to win the World Series off the pitching. I think we all agree on that. The pitching is there to complement the offense. the offense or just do enough to to enable the offense, you know, and respect to and shout out to the bullpen day. That was incredible. There was an overlay of all the different arm angles Yankees had to see, you know. Very cool. Shout out to pitching ninja. So, yeah, I guess when you have a different arm angle every inning, it’s going to be pretty tough, but they’re doing just enough to get the job done. The boys in uh with the bats, they got to get the job done. That’s it, right? That’s what this team is based around. It’s a well-rounded offense that drops double digits on you multiple times in a series. Shout out to Rafer right here with a $5 donation. How you boys holding up these past few days? It felt like a dream. Go Jays, go baby. Well, let me tell you, my throat still recovering right now. I’m not at full capacity. I am very fatigued. But you’re right. It felt like a dream. I do want to take a moment though and highlight the nightmare. One of my guilty pleasures throughout this entire season and especially that series was looking over at this man right here, Nick Turo. I highly recommend I guess you’re going to miss out on it now cuz the season’s done, but I highly recommend that you go follow him on your social media platform of choice. Uh and you just you wait for next season. This is his reaction to seeing the Yankees get eliminated. And just a warning, there is some swearing in here, so please be advised. Nothing left to say. Um we didn’t show up. We didn’t [ __ ] hit after a great emotional win. I thought we would have momentum and we [ __ ] the better as an offense. Judge did everything he could do. Cam Schlitler was terrific. Kept us in the game in a [ __ ] error. Of course, that’s our Achilles heel error. Always error. Couldn’t get a big hit. Had men on base, seventh, eighth. Just could not get it done. Got beat by a better [ __ ] team. It’s just very frustrating, very um sad that every [ __ ] October the last 8, 10, 12 years sucks ass like this. [ __ ] That right there is a defeated man. A man that was defeated by that man right there. Yeah, that man a few times. And then also the Toronto Blue Jays as a whole. So, I just wanted to put that out there because I do actually have a deep respect for the content that he creates. I think it’s really hilarious. I think it’s really funny, but also to relish this moment. It has been a dream, Rapid. And on the other side of things, it’s been a nightmare. Yeah, I can understand where he’s feeling. I mean, we we not too long ago felt like, wow, like we can’t buy a hit with runners in scoring position. They had a lot of opportunity, especially in that eighth inning. We kind of forget. I think it was against Brennan Little. Again, all a dream now. They had the tying run at the plate. There was multiple opportunities for them to come back in that game. It was scary. Uh shout out to Hand Hands and Heels with a 299 don an A. What is that? That’s kind of wild. An Australia. Australia. Hell yeah. That’s really cool. Hell yeah. Saying big Jay’s fan from Western Australia. Keep it up. Go Jay. Shout out. Yeah. What time is it over there, man? Is it It’s got to be like Oh, it’s got to be Yeah, cuz you got to be close to the end of the day. Yeah. Yeah, let us know, man. Thank you very much for tuning in. That’s really cool that we have people in here from Australia. Go Jays. Uh, yeah, it’s obviously really good in Toronto land right now. Not so good over there in the Yankees, and they’re even calling for some people to lose their jobs. Well, there should be. There should be. Do you think Aaron Boon loses his job? I don’t think so. So, I actually really agreed with, and this is a rare thing for me to say, okay, cuz I don’t love a lot of what Alex Rodriguez says or does or just, you know, exudes and on mainly a lot of his takes. I actually just don’t agree with a lot of his takes, but he did come out after the fact and said the one guy who he doesn’t think should be fired here is actually Aaron Boon. I agree because he was doing the best he possibly could with a roster that is ultimately flawed internally speaking and there’s so many issues with that roster where you know and he went on to break down how how they have all these guys playing one position but they need other dudes doing other positions and they they got all these DHS but where’s the defense but then also it’s all home run and where’s the actual you know clutch hitting when you need I honestly agree with what A-Rod said right there. I think that Aaron Boon has has done a perfectly fine job with the cards that he was dealt. And I think that if you’re Brian Cashman and the New York Mi uh Mankey Yankees front office, you got to go out and you got to get some different playing cards. You got some really nice ones, but they’re all the [ __ ] same. And you need a a multitude. You need you need a rainbow of cards right here. And I don’t know what what it is with them just wanting to go out and get the same goddamn player every time. That’s true. Keep doing it, guys, cuz I’m happy watching it from over here. But, uh, I I don’t think that Aaron Boon should get fired. If anyone should get fired, it might be the guys that are that are making the choices up top. Yeah, up top. Offensive coordinator, maybe. I mean, you know, a coordinator. Oh my god, we’re in football season. We have We got one here. Um, hitting coach, hitting staff, whatever it might be. Maybe buy a traject machine if you don’t already have one. But yeah, that should be something we should look forward to in the offseason. But right now, we got to focus on Toronto Blue Jays baseball. And we did get a little bit of a sprinkle, a little hint on the status of Bo Bett. And it actually came from Bo Bett himself. Jamie Campbell summing up what Bo Bashette said here, saying, “Though he was a bit vague, Bette hinted he’ll be ready for Sunday.” Now, I believe the quote that he’s looking for or that he was referring to right here is over here, right here. Uh Bobette says, “I need to make sure I can run the bases. I’ve made some huge progress in the last few days. I’m really optimistic about where I stand. I’ll do everything I can to get ready. I have a positive mindset for sure. Now, let me throw it over to you, Nick. Bob Bashette, ALDS roster. They need to make a decision this Sunday and the whole series is going to be about a week and a half. It would end hypothetically if they go to game seven the following Monday. So, you have to make a decision if you’re Ros Atkins, John Schneider, put Bob on the roster right now. If you want me to play at some point this week, do you think that he will be ready knowing that I mean, we just saw this dude in a leg brace, you know what I mean, not too far ago. Um, and he barely could run. Do you think that they put Bobette on the roster for this ALCS? I genuinely have no idea what they’re going to do, and that’s just because I don’t know the internal conversation surrounding that injury. We’ve seen him jogging around a little bit. He says he’s feeling a bit better, but is that game ready for the ALCS? Because the one thing that you don’t want to do, right, and we love the upside of Bob Bashette, but let’s talk let’s let’s talk floor for a second. Let’s say that you put him on the roster. He’s not fully rested or he’s not fully recovered, excuse me. He’s in that lineup in key situations cuz I would imagine that they’re going to put him in, you know, at the very least the top five of that lineup for certain. So, he’s going to be in some key situations. if it’s an automatic out, if he’s giving away at bats and then maybe worst of all, if he’s putting them in the field and he’s not, you know, fielding properly, that could be costing you games. Hell, we saw last night one of the uh the worst endings to an NLDS, right? And that was just somebody making a mental error at the time. But Bob Bashette, I mean, if he’s not 100% physically ready, then there could be some physical inhibitions right there him though, that’s the question. That would be the other thing, you know. So, I’m I just I want to evaluate that floor first. What does the floor look like? Do we believe that the floor is higher than than that? Can he come out and actually give you some productive at bats? Cuz to his credit, I was worried about the floor of Anthony Santandere. And whilst he didn’t show up his ceiling in terms of hitting a bunch of home runs, his floor was honestly pretty solid. He was having good at bats there. He was fighting off pitches. Especially in that last game, he started to look a lot more comfortable. And I know that, you know, he didn’t show up crazy on a stat sheet in any capacity, but he certainly wasn’t giving away at bats for free. And that’s something that we saw him do before he got injured. So these are all the questions that they need to figure out inside. They’re being very tight lipped about just how good he is. I think that that’s part strategy honestly because, you know, you want the opposing team, whomever you’re facing, you know, you kind of want them thinking, well, maybe we do need to game plan for Boba. just a little bit extra work for you guys even if he’s not on that roster. Yeah, if he can run then I think that you got to give it a look because having him at DH assuming we can get remotely close to that ceiling is obviously huge. But then you’re going to deal with a couple other questions in terms of who else is who’s got to play defense if he’s going to DH. Right. Yeah. I want to talk about that DH thing in just a moment. Just another uh food for thought as well. I was thinking, well, let’s say he’s not 100% recovered and he still needs to have some off days. You don’t really want him on his feet right away on Sunday. Just make him make the roster and you could possibly see him coming a little bit later. Like maybe you see him start in a game three or something like that. Maybe he needs a little bit more time, right? You you don’t play in Roger Center for two games, then you play on the road the following, it’ be Wednesday and maybe you play him there. Maybe he needs another week of recovery before he can get on his feet and play some defense because you’re right, him playing in the DH spot raises a ton of question marks, right? Where do you put Anthony Santair? Now, I know I’ I think we’d all agree even though Anthony Sandere’s bat was awesome. I think we’d rather the upside of Bobett’s bat because if you put Basha DH, okay, Anthony Sadair, are you gonna put him in right field? Well, no, because what about George Springer? Okay. Well, what if you put both those guys in left and right? Not even sacrificing a lot of defense. So, there’s a lot of questions and to what your point you made about the Yankees roster, that’s a bad roster construction right there. Yeah, you don’t want to be doing that, right? Like I I liked the fact uh that the defense was pretty locked down other than in game three. And why did we lose game three? Because we fell asleep defensively speaking. I don’t want to do that again. And you know, you don’t want to be forcing Bobett in that lineup and then making sacrifices for other things because we don’t know what we’re going to get from him on a hitting side yet. If I could guarantee you that we’re going to get league leader Bo Bashette in hits in that lineup playing at the DH bot, then I think I would be willing to sacrifice some defense for that cuz I think offensively speaking, you’re going to make that up with Bo. But let’s just say for instance that you do put him at the DH and then you also have a little bit of some questionable defense out there with Santonair and George Springer both playing outfield because you want them in the lineup as well and Bob Bashette goes over. Well, you know, like that’s the DA spot, right? that you’re you’re taking that gamble. So, this is the thing. I I think it’s like we’re all trying our best right now to play armchair doctor, and the fact of the matter is we just don’t have enough information. We need like 10 years of uh schooling. Well, we also need that as well, but even then, it’s like, you know, it’s I need to I need to genuinely sit down and speak with Bob Bashette and just get a sense as to how serious this injury is or, you know, how rested are you feeling, how recovered are you feeling? Cuz you’re right. He was in a walking boot. Like literally like a a knee brace. A knee brace. Excuse me. Knee brace. Yeah. Yeah. So he was he’s literally been in that thing and he just started jogging. And let’s face it in the ALCS. I can’t have you jogging. I need you [ __ ] sprinting every single damn time. Right. I say too because I we even talked about this. Okay. Bobette gets on base. He gets a hit. It’s a single the other way. That’s what Bobett does. Or a double, you know, whatever. He’s on base. Uh, next batter up, let’s say it’s Kirker show. They hit a single. Bobett’s got to go first to third, second, a home. Like, that’s going to hurt him. And then what? He’s going to slide. He better be sliding head first this time. Like, that’s going to be very dangerous for Bobette. We’re not even considering that. Like, okay, great. You’re the hit leader. Maybe we get you an RBI spot, but once you’re on base, you’re clogging everybody else. Yeah. opportunities. Look, it it it really just comes down to how optimistic he is feeling. Now, I do believe that hearing from him that that he could be available and then, you know, they’ve kind of insinuated it as well, John Schneider and and various others talking about him thinking that this could be a possibility. So, we’re certainly getting a lot closer. I am maybe it’s it’s the synchime, but as as we get closer to it, I liked the roster as we had it. It it accomplished what we needed it to accomplish. If Bob Bashette is 80% of what he was, great. Put him on. That’s I think that’s the line for me. If you’re at 80%, all right, you’re on this team. If you’re not at 80%, then we’re going to keep you off. And I think that’s fine. It’s simple for me. If you can run at Yeah. 70 to 80%. All right, you’re good without hurting yourself. Yeah, we can sacrifice that. You know, we can sacrifice that. And nobody better be getting on him if he hits a ground ball and he’s not jogging or or he is jogging to first base. No one better be getting on him. Yeah, for me if he’s in that realm of percentage back, throw him on the ALCS just for the option because if you don’t want to leave him off and then okay, what if he is healthy? Like I said, by next Wednesday now you’re missing out potentially five games of Bob Bashette, you’re your cleanup hitter. He’s very valuable to this team. Now, I love the fact that the boys got it done and they beat the New York Yankees without him, but we are going to potentially go up against some harder pitching staffs and Grian Yankees had a great pitching staff, but we made them look pretty bad. They are going to go up some hard pitching stats potentially against Mariners, potentially against Terrick Scubel and Detroit Tigers. We would we would love to have him back regardless. Shout out to Ann Bock right here who continues her generational run gifting another Blue Jays today membership to Screams right there. Thank you very much Ann. We always appreciate you. Let’s talk about the pitching of the Toronto Blue Jays because on top of the Bobette update there is also stuff regarding and questions regarding Chris Basset and Max Scherzer. Now, Chris, he is definitely feeling a lot better physically. This is the quote that we have right here. And Max is in a position to help us out as well. This is from Pete Walker. We’ll re-evaluate how we’re going to do this, but they’re both ready to roll if we need them. That’s the big quote for me. They’re both ready to roll if we need them. Not like if we need them or you know, if they’re ready to roll, then we will get them. Like, you know, they are both ready to roll. So, that’s gives me the impression that they could be ready both. I I think that you do need one like I and I think that the the choice is Chris Passet just because Max Sher just clearly like did not look like himself uh you know leading up into the postseason. I loved that bullpen day and I think that the utmost amount of flowers and tip of the caps need to be given to John Schneider and for Pete Walker for finding a way to in the most hostile of environments and with you know just a a lack of pitchers available. you were capable of managing around Aaron Judge, managing around that lineup and sent what, like six, seven, eight pitchers out there on the bump in that final game and got the W. That was awesome. I love that. And you know what? That’s going to go in your managerial resume and no one can ever take that away from you, John Schneider. However, I do think that avoiding that more times than not would be beneficial. If we have to do it, then we have to do it. But I imagine that with the way that they’ve been dealing with the starters, you’re going to get that anyways. There’s been a really short leash on a lot of the starters, right? Shane Bieber, even though he wasn’t a bullpen day, kind of turned into a bullpen day cuz correct me if I’m wrong, but he only went like 2.2 innings, right? And then you had seven innings to make up. So, we’re already kind of getting bullpen days even when the starters roll out. I do think that adding Chris Basset onto this team would be very helpful because it just gives you at least one more sure thing to start off the ball game and then can if can we make it into the third or the fourth inning and then we start playing our bullpen cards. I I I completely agree and it’s not like the ALDS where you know you can maybe get away with a bullpen day because you’re only going to play five times. This is the ALCS potentially seven game series and as well you know around that game three game four game five where would be typically the bullpen day you don’t want to have that cuz you’re playing three games in a row as you can see right here obviously Sunday Monday in Toronto I got to imagine it’s going to be the same dudes rolling out Chris Basset and probably a Savage in game two right back at the Roger Center. Then we go on the road either to Detroit or to Seattle on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. You got three games in a row. So yeah, you throw Bieber again in a hostile environment. Well, if you do a bullpen day, game four, the [ __ ] you going to do game five? You know, you’re going to roll out another bullpen day, you’re going to push Gossman there, and but then what’s going to happen game six, game seven? So obviously you need Chris Basset. You got to go Bieber Basset and then you roll it all the way back around to potentially a Kevin Gosman situation is what it would look like for that following Friday. So yeah, there there is no question about it. There will be one of these guys making the team and Chris Basset agrees the man. Sorry Max haven’t looked good as of late. Maybe age catch up to you. Maybe it’s been a long season. But I do believe Chris Basset will give us a chance to get deeper into the ball game and save that bullpen. Yeah. And and that’s just it, right? like we are now entering into a war of attrition. If it’s Detroit that we end up getting and we’re going to kind of transition and start talking about who we’d rather have, but if it’s Detroit, for instance, they have to have TK Scoo going today. And that’s the one guy I think that just is well, we we should all be scared of Teroo, right? Tercoal is is maybe the best pitcher in all of baseball and he just never blinks in the biggest moment. But if he’s going today and they’re going to be up against us, then what’s the earliest that he could pitch? Probably next Wednesday. Probably next. Yeah. Like, you know, I mean, I feel like it’d be a bit too early to rush him for Monday. So, you you’d have to get him for game three. And then if you’re Detroit, you’re just hoping that maybe you can get him for game seven again. That’s it. And what if there is no game seven? Yeah, exactly. You can beat up on that team. And we’ll get into those rosters. I like I like we’re on this train. We’ll get into those rosters because yeah, like after Scubble, I kind of like everybody else, you know? I think that they’re there are certainly a lot more manageable, right? There’s just there’s no one right now. Um, and the I guess you could argue like some of those Seattle pitchers are pretty dominant, but I don’t think that there’s anybody left on the American League side of things that’s that’s the same as as a TK Scoo. He is dominant all, you know, through and through. And I do think that we will struggle against him. But everyone else on that Detroit roster in terms of their pitching staff, I mean, Jack Flity has had his ups and downs. Very manageable for this Toronto Blue Jays team. And the other guy, I just I think that we can handle them. I agree. I agree. Now, real quick to wrap up the whole conversation of the ALCS roster. We’re thinking Bob Bushette might potentially make the roster. I think right now I am I’m genuinely at a coin flip because it honestly what worries me is that he’s been jogging. Mhm. Can we see a video of him sprinting? Is there a video out there of him sprinting? If I see him sprinting, he’s on there 100%. I think that John is going to look for every possible reason to put him on this roster. 100%. And if he’s not on the roster, then you guys can can rest assured he should never have been on the roster. So, be okay with that, right? If he’s to if he’s not on the roster, he shouldn’t have been on the roster cuz he would have been too injured to help us anyways. That’s where I’m at. So, I’m giving it a solid 50/50 right now. If he does make the roster, I do think that we are both in agreement though that it is probably going to be Isaiah Ker Falefa that is not on the roster anymore. That’s the thing for me like that’s why I’m almost leaning more like 65 35 65 being he will be on the roster because just for the option later down the line you put him in a game maybe give him some sim games um earlier in the series he’s not actually playing because yeah he would replace Isaiah Kofala who really didn’t get that much playing time really anyways. I guess that’s true as well. I mean, if you’re okay with just leaving him on the bench for a little while and then having the option, maybe even the option to pinch hit him, like the option to to pinch hit uh for, you know, Bob Bushette, like that’s, let’s face it, that’s a significantly better option than than IKF coming off the bench. So, I guess now that I’m thinking about it that way, maybe I’ll meet you in the middle there, like something like 6040 because just the idea I hadn’t really thought about the idea of pinch hitting Bobette, but okay. I mean, it’s it’s game one. He’s not going to start. You’re down a run. You really need to score this thing. It’s the bottom of the lineup. Let’s put Bobett in. Pinch hit him. If he gets on base, then we’ll immediately swap him out for somebody else. And and like that’s that will just be that. Right. Right. No, I I agree. So, if that’s the case, like Bobette replaces IKF and then like we said on the pitching side of things, probably Chris Basset’s going to make the roster, which means inevitably Justin Brule will probably be off. So, that’s your ALCS roster update, guys. You let us know in the comments down below what you think about that. Before we transition to Mariners and Tigers, let’s give a quick shout out to the sponsor of today’s show, Sports Interaction. This whole show is presented to you by Sports Interaction at Casino. Every game is your game when you bet with Sports Interaction Canada’s homegrown sports book. I wanted to bring this up because I thought it was interesting and it is because the only two teams that have clinched a CS spot is the Dodgers and the Blue Jays. But look at that, folks. This is sportsinteraction.com. Blue Jays currently the second favorites to win the World Series. And like I said, it’s because they are the only two locked in right now. 4.25 times your money. But I I got to I got to believe here based on the reactions of the world to the Blue Jays. Whether it be Mariners or Tigers, I do think they’re going to be the favorites, the Blue Jays, to go on and win that series. I will be interested to see after tonight, you know, where cuz then it’s it’ll be down to four. And then how are you adjusting those odds when you’re considering that the, you know, either one of the Brewers, the Cubs, the Mariners, and the Tigers will be in that thing. I think that we can do some really simple math here and feel actually very good about taking that bet. Yeah, there’s four. It’s forget that there’s like however many teams there are right now, six or whatever. Um, there’s four teams left, right? For the Jays, there’s four teams. So, if we’re just looking at this, you know, completely unbiased and we don’t have any, we don’t know the dodgement. There’s four teams. There’s a one in4 chance, they’re giving you slightly better than a one in4 chance. I like those odds, right? So, and I and I do think that at the very worst, we do have about a one in4 chance to win this thing. I’ll give the Dodgers the edge. They’re they are certainly better than a one in4 chance, but you know, could could we beat the Tigers? Sure. Like, what’s going on with those Cubs? Are we believing in the Cubs? I I don’t know. So, I I do think I like those odds quite a bit. And please uh bet responsibly, Ontario only. Let’s get into the game that’s happening tonight. We’re not going live for it everybody, but I will certainly be having it on in the background and just watching what’s transpiring here. Ter Scooble on the bump up against George Kirby. Scooble as we’ve been talking about, filthy, right? Just genu he’s probably going to win his second back-to-back Sai Young award. And rightfully so. He actually I looked at this the other day. I didn’t realize this. He had a better year this year than he did last year. and he won Sai Young last year. So it’s he’s going to win Sai Young again. So backto-back Sai Young award winner going up against George Kirby who is very good but ultimately didn’t have his best season. 4.21 ERA significantly less innings than TK Scubble. Granted that Seattle Mariners lineup I think that we both like it a little bit better than Detroit. Yeah, Seattle Mariners lineup is uh scary. You know what I mean? And this is going to all bleed into who I want to play inevitably in the ALCS. You got Randy A. Rosarena. I mean, that man is he is postseason Randy. Cal Raleigh, the big dumper, lots of homers. Rodriguez turning to turn it on. Palanco had two homers off of Scubble. That shows you something right there. Two homers off of one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. That was Palco. That was Palanco. Jorge Palanco. Josh Naylor is a [ __ ] animal. Excuse my language. Um, Suarez. I mean, Genzone, we can go on and on and on. That is a deep scary lineup and I don’t want to face him in a postseason. They’re going up against Scooble, one of the best pitchers. So, in this game, regardless, I do want to give the slight edge to Scubble because he is just that dog. He’s great. It is going to be in uh Seattle, but I can’t go against Scooball. And that’s the reason why I don’t want to face him come come October, you know. Can you remind me exactly where the the Seattle Mariners pitching staff is right now? Mhm. I I want to I want to like they’re there actual pictures cuz somebody was saying in the chat Brian Woo was hurt. Is that that’s a real thing, right? Brian Woo is injured. Okay. So, he’s should be injured right there. So, that’s that’s actually a really good thing for Toronto if they do run into uh the Seattle Mariners. Obviously, Logan Gilbert is just a menace. Uh Louis Castillo is very they’re all very good. They’re all very very good. But I do think when you compare them pound-to pound for that Detroit Tigers pitching rotation, you got Terrick Scubel who is filthy and then ultimately I mean the other guys I think are very manageable. Ei Flity have been kind of nah flity is having a really step back year this year. Yes, it’s it’s I mean look it’s Teroo he’s overall one he’s literally overall one. Yeah, if you can make it through that guy you’ll feel great. It’s just that guy is really good. But considering he’s going today, probably would only have to see that guy once or maybe twice if they go crazy and try to force him into a a game six or inevitably a game seven if there is one. So, I I personally like Detroit just better across all phases because I think that their pitching staff, whilst they have the better ace, its depth is not as good. I think that their lineup, whilst they do have some solid pieces in their lineup, it’s certainly not as I guess dangerous in my opinion. It’s manageable, right? I mean, look at their overall rankings all year. You know, they’re kind of a little bit better than mid. You know, they have 11th RA starting pitching staff, 17th RA relief pitchers, and then there’s 11th in runs scored. You know, 16th in batting average, 14th in on base, they’re last in stolen bases. You don’t have to worry about that at all. 10th in homers. Like that’s fine. Like honestly like overall I would much rather take Detroit. And also don’t forget we have the better season record against Detroit. We actually remember that four game series we went in face school end up winning that game anyways. We won three of four in Detroit. Yeah. Like we actually could handle them and handle that crowd. Also throwing in a little wrinkle. It’s in Detroit. I mean there could be a Blue Jays fan influence. I’m not trying to say it’s going to take away their advantage or anything like that but that’s a little bit of influence right there. There could also be a bit of an influence in Seattle too though. Absolutely right. There’s going to be for both of these teams. I think that we are going to have some some type of influence just from a Phantom standpoint. Now, looking over at Seattle, some some people did just say right now that Woo will be back for the ALCS. Thank you for letting me know about that. Another reason why I I just don’t want anything to do with them. I think that Seattle is what New York wanted to be and what they tried to be because Seattle, Can you go back to the the lineup for a second, please? So, the Seattle lineup, one of the best squads at hitting home runs. They got a lot of home run pop right there. Third in home runs, right? But they can also hit for average. They can also steal bases. They can also get on base. They can. I mean, it’s just this is what New York wanted their offense to look like. Balanced. It’s got the the threat of the home run ball at any given moment in time. You I mean, literally like a Rosa raina hits home runs. Cal Raleigh, Rodriguez, they all they all hit home runs all the way down to Suarez. That top six, all of them hit home runs. 27 homers. Uh 60, 32, 26, 20, 49. That’s how you win postseason games. There’s three guys in that lineup with 30 stolen bases. Yeah, we’ve been actually struggling against a stolen base recently. Kirk started off the year great throwing out base runners, but recently that hasn’t been the case. I don’t really want to have that threat because that’s how an inning can get away from you, especially if you happen to throw the ball away and now that single or that walk ends up at third base and then these guys pounce on you with the long ball or or what have you. This lineup just feels so much more complete to me and and that much more lethal when you factor in the pitching staff as well. I want nothing to do with the Seattle Mariners. I am through and through cheering on my guy TK Scubble this evening. I’ve owned him in in fantasy baseball for years now. So I’m not just saying that cuz you know I want him to win right now. He’s actually my guy. But if you could do anything for me, TK, this year wasn’t great for for Fantasy Nick, but if you could do anything for me, win this game, let us play you guys and let that be the the kind of ri, you know, that that beautiful Canadian rivalry right there of Detroit and Toronto. I am in the same boat. Give me Detroit. If anyone’s cheering on Seattle, re-watch this segment again because there’s nothing I want to do with Seattle. The only thing the only reason that I want Seattle is the the hindsight of it because if they if like let’s just say for instance if Toronto goes on knock on the wood to to win the World Series then the perfect run of of opponents for me would be you beat the Yankees. So you you get rid of all of that all that narrative Yankees better. You get rid of them. You beat Seattle and then and then that Yeah. best AL team on paper and then that entire thing that that transpired a couple years ago where you collapsed that narrative. We never have to talk about that ever again. We just defeated Demons and then nobody guess where you’re going here. You’re going LA Dodgers. You beat the LA Dodgers. You beat the best team in all of baseball and and you prove to show Otani why he should have gone on that plane. If that’s the run that like if that actually happens, it’s a perfect story book. That’s documentary worthy right there, right? Like that’s actually like, wow, we just did we got rid we checked every single box. There’s no demons left. Everyone has been has been put in their place respectively and that would be awesome. But I just don’t trust that we would be capable of doing that cuz I do think Seattle is really good. Like if we do face Seattle, I do think the the prediction is going to be very 50/50. We’re going to have to Oh, it’ll be 50/50 for me today. Yeah, we’re going to have to take a look at all the matchups. I’ll probably lean Jays cuz I’m biased. Even though in our pre, you know, postseason predictions, I said Seattle, I just I mean, I love the way the Jays are playing right now. So, I’m going to lean them, of course, but I I could easily see a rally where the Mariners, whereas Detroit, I’m smashing. I think that we we’d have to be the I don’t want to go so far to say heavy favorites because at the end of the day it’s a seven game series and I got to give respect to to Detroit, you know, because they they’ve been a great ball team all season long and they got here for a reason if they do end up getting here. But I do think that we would be the light favorite at the least. Whereas again, Seattle. Yeah, it’s I mean that is just as much of a toss up as as you can make it. Yeah, I agree. Uh guys, let’s give another shout out to another sponsor here at Blue J today. Pizza Pizza. We know that Vlatty is a big deal. Yeah. Yeah. Everyone knows that. But he’s also got his own big deal over at Pizza Pizza. Now at Pizza Pizza. You can get Vlatty’s big deal. A three topping double extra large pizza for only $19.99. How big is a double extra large? 18 in. Eight massive slices. Only $19.99 over at Pizza Pizza. Fun fact, Vlatty told Pizza he loves the cheese pizza. That’s the one that we had the other day. We did actually have that the other day. Yeah. So, shout out to Vlatty. Uh shout out to Pizza Pizza. Go check it out, guys. Everybody deserves pizza. We’ll be doing our pizza pizza party. I guess one of the days uh that we’re going to be playing in the ALCS. And by the way, we will be live for every single one of those ALCS games. Of course. Mhm. Now, before we wrap up the show, cuz we got to get to our mailbag in a little bit. We have a couple questions that you guys have submitted. So, make sure if you want to get your question answered before the ALCS, throw it in the mailbag, and the I pin it to the description. Now, we got a crown, the Jay of the Week, and for the postseason, we’re doing Jay of the Series. So, the Jay of the Series for your Toronto Blue Jays. Everyone take a moment, take a guess. Who is it? Let’s announce it. Did you get it right? It’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Abso freakingutely. Obviously, man. Obviously. Obviously, bro. Someone said Clement. Well, Clement actually, funny enough, was nominated. Uh, he was third in my opinion in terms of the who should be the Jay of the series. Vlatty though, nine for 17, three homers, nine RBI’s. He had an RBI every single freaking game with a 1.609 OPS led the Blue Jays. I mean, without Vlatty, I mean, probably we might have still won. You never know. A hell of a lot closer. A hell of a lot closer. Would have been a hell of a lot closer. Yeah. I mean, 9 for 17. He had his moment. And uh and this is I think right as of today, you know, you had that season in 2021 where he was second in MVP and did all that, but as of right now, when I look at the the list of accolades on the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. resume, I would say that that this actually is at the top and it is the 2025 ALDS performance of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Aaron Judge was awesome, but he wasn’t awesome to win. and you ended up winning that thing. So, yeah, in my opinion, you are the MVP of the series and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led the Toronto Blue Jays offense to some absolutely absurd rankings, everybody. Shout out to Sleeper. Slow out to Sleeper Blue Jays, by the way. We’re obviously on the sleeper grind right now with the fantasy football season going on. If they inevitably end up with a baseball side of things, I’m sure we’d love to go over there. But um Toronto Blue Jay’s offense in the postseason so far, keeping in mind they did only play four games, but they’re first in in everything that matters. The only thing that they’re not first in is hits, but again, that’s they didn’t play in the wild card. They’re still first in runs scored. That’s with them not playing in the wild card. They’re still first in homers. That’s a team that that apparent that wasn’t hitting home runs in the regular season and didn’t play in the wild card and they’re still first in it right now. They’re first in K rate. They’re everything literally everything that matters they are first in. And this kind of blew me away as well. When you’re looking over at the rest of the offenses in all of baseball, the OPS of the Toronto Blue Jays, keep in mind, very small sample size, but it’s over 200 OPS points higher than the next best team, which is the LA Dodgers. Wow. So, I mean, what else do we have to [ __ ] say? Yeah. Like, is it is it a product of your opponent, the New York Yankees? Maybe. Is it a product of small sample size? Maybe. But if I, again, zooming out, if I was any other team, because all that matters in postseason is the four or five games you play in a series. If I’m any other team, I’m looking at the Blue Jays and I’m thinking, “Oh my god, please, for love of God, I do not want to play the Toronto Blue Jays.” Like, if I was Seattle, Detroit, I’m looking over at the Yankees and Blue Jays. I’m like, Yankees, please like come back. Like, beat them. No, then they got spanked. And now I’m thinking, yeah, I win my DS. I’m very happy, but oh my god, I got to play the Toronto Blue Jays. I’d be petrified. And if I’m on the NL side of things, I’m thinking, please do not play the Toronto Blue Jays. I can’t I don’t want to have, you know, this team hitting 300 against my my good pitchers. So, I mean, again, yeah, like looking out, I’m not even trying to be biased. I wouldn’t want to play us 100%, dude. Yeah, this Blue Jays offense is absolutely elite right now. We’ll see how they do against either one of Seattle or Detroit. I think that Seattle’s got the better chance to uh to lock us down if they if ever anyone was to lock us down, but ultimately I am liking where we’re at right now. We got a couple questions in here from the mailbag. If you still want to submit one, link to do so is in the description. A big shout out to everybody that submitted so far and a massive shout out here to DMAC with the $2 donation. If Seattle can’t get to the World Series, hope it’s the Jays. Good luck. Well, good luck to you as well. I assume that you are a Seattle Mariners fan. I am not rooting for you tonight though because and that’s just because I got a deep respect for you. I got a deep respect for your team and your organization and for what you built and and I think that you’re you’re the New York Yankees or what they wanted to become. You’re the better New York Yankees honestly. So yeah, I want nothing to do with you cuz if anyone’s going to stop us from getting there, I think it is you guys right now. Trooper FN with a question right here. Do you have any worries using Bo right now as he’s been out for so long? last year he was hurt, came back and played horrible. I really don’t want him to get more hurt rushing back or not produce. I’m not really worried about him getting more hurt. Um, and I guess this is just the the doesn’t matter to me anymore cuz he’s not under a contract for we have him for maybe two more series. I’m I’m just worried that he’s going to be giving away at bats or or being being a liability out there in the field. And that’s what I’m concerned about and that’s why I wasn’t 100% about bringing him in and having him start games for you if he’s not great. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of of having him on the roster as a pinch hitter because that’s high reward, low risk. If you’re pinch hitting for someone, you’re probably chasing in the ball game anyways or, you know, looking to to tack something on there and then you can just immediately take them out. So that’s the the beautiful mix of of upside with also limiting your floor. And I think there’s a you make a good point like Bob Bashette he did struggle last year coming back and most people do struggle offensively after being out for basically a month and you don’t have a lot of time to get back with it. But I still think that an you know Bobette over IF is an easy smash. You take that regardless, right? Like and to your point if he’s a pinch hitter it’s like okay well that’s his job anyways. That was IF’s job. I’d rather have Boishette coming off the bench. But also too, if John Schneider does decide to go and, you know, put him in the lineup and put him behind Vladimir Gro Jr., I think that also affects the way the batters or excuse me, the pitchers on the opposing team pitches to Vladimir Gro Jr. Like, okay, now I got the threat of Bo Bashette. You know, yes, I know he’s been has been out for a month and we’d rather probably still attack him, but I still got Bo Bashette who led the league in hits for a majority of the year right behind him. I don’t want to just give up this at bat to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. I I I don’t want to just, you know, let him get on base because Bobett’s right there. So whereas we didn’t have that really in the ALDS didn’t matter cuz Vlad came out clutch. But yeah, like I think even having him there is a threat. So yeah, I’m worried. You’re right. But I think it’s fine. I think that’s the best of both worlds is you bring him onto the roster, if he’s feeling great, you play him. If not, you save him for some pinch hitting situations. And at the very least like the other team like it’s almost like you know sometimes in football they’ll do this where it’s like they’re kind of faking you out by being like oh yeah like he’s gonna be active he’s going to be playing but like you know we like it’s a wide receiver we never actually throw him the ball he’s just he’s just out there even though he’s not feeling good but you got a game plan for him and I do think that there’s an element of well we have to game plan for Bob Bashett cuz he was leading the hook and leaning in. So if he is good we don’t want to be caught on the back foot. Drew Gamer in here with a insanely long comment. Uh, I don’t think Toronto fans truly realize how important this series win and playoff run is for the city. It has been way too long since the last time a Toronto sports team was something we could feel pride in. The Raptors dynasty came to an end a while ago and the Leafs are the Leafs. This season is the most fun I’ve seen from the people in a long time. Everyone’s happy and everyone’s hope is being rewarded. Do you agree that this season and playoff run was the pallet cleanser Toronto and Canada has needed for a long time? I I’m there with you. I gotta see us do just a tiny bit more, I think. Um, but I I certainly think it’s it’s great for Toronto to see us make it into the top four and to win and for the Toronto Blue Jays at the very least to kill the narrative of them not being capable to win a series at all. Yeah, from a Blue Jays perspective, I think it was absolutely a pallet cleanser because first of all, making the LDS is great, but we haven’t seen a series win, right? you got the series win and like I said off top of the show, this is the furthest they’ve been since 2016. Like it’s been a long time and after this we’re playing with house money. We could be the favorites which is awesome. Whereas in 2016 and in 2015 we weren’t the favorites going into those series. So it is a bit of a cleanser. You’re right. And in terms of Toronto sports, yeah, like seeing a Toronto team make it to the semifinals is massive because when was the last time a Toronto Toronto team went to the semis? when the Raptors won in 2019, which has been like six years. And what did the Raptors do right after that? Tank. Like, they sucked. So, yeah, I agree. In terms of Toronto sports, it’s refreshing. I’m seeing popular Toronto uh media outlets talking about the Jays. I mean, we keep getting calls from the news. They want to talk about the Jays because everyone’s excited. They love it. So, yeah, it is. And that’s why we should enjoy it, everybody, and enjoy the ALCS that’s coming up this Sunday. Exactly. Because you could be like Doug right now. Everyone’s asking the chat for Doug. No, he ain’t here. Everybody, shout out to Doug Savono, who’s been a member for two months saying, “Where’s Doug? We need that guy around and my protection. We beat whoever four and two for each series.” I love that prediction right there, Doug. I hope that you’re with us uh along the way. And I hope that other Doug ends up coming in as well because yeah, he was a good luck charm. Everyone was like, “Take him out of the chat. Take him out of the chat.” Second he left the chat, we started losing. Second he came back into the chat, we started winning. Duh. I I feel like he’ll be gone though. I told him though, like after the series, you can hop on the bandwagon. It’s okay. Here here’s the thing, though. Uh you know, he might go, but we’re going to get someone else. It’s going to there’s going to be some uh some troll from Seattle or some troll from Detroit, if they exist, that’s going to come in here and uh and feel like they’re going to knock us out. But uh that will be the new Doug, everyone. Now, we got one more question in here, and I think this one deserves a little clarification in case people aren’t aren’t too aware of this. Uh they’re asking this from uh Trey Perfin saying, “Do you feel comfortable spending a lot of money on Trey and Bo this off season and then not having much for free agents to improve our bullpen agent rotation?” So, first things first, I want to get this out of the way. Trey is going to cost basically a penny. Like, he’s a he’s a rookie, so he’s going to be on a rookie contract and it costs under a million. You don’t have to worry about spending money on trade this for another three years. Bobette though is a free agent. And to answer all those questions about like, do I worry about the money spending? Abso freakingutely not because Rogers has gone out and proved that like we don’t care how much we spend as long as we win games, we’re going to the ALCS. And if we do go to the World Series and we get a taste of that, I think they’re going to be spending a lot. And I think players are going to look at Toronto, see what’s going on there, see the winning culture, and just like what happened in the ’90s, people want to come here and play for us. I don’t think I’m worried at all. It’s a snowball effect and you got to imagine that some of those boys over there uh you know various other teams that that are getting knocked out. Kyle Schwarber for instance, I mean they got to be looking over at what Toronto’s doing and it’s not lost on them that people are are hitting everything here, right? Nathan Lucas, he ne I don’t I genuinely believe this and and credit to Nathan Lucas for all the hard work that he’s done to get where he is, but I don’t think that he’d have a career uh if he wasn’t in this organization. I think that the Toronto Blue Jays were capable of unlocking something in Nathan Lucas and with his work ethic, he has now managed to, you know, be an actual MLB guy and that’s some that’s something that other guys are going to look at and go, “Oh my god, like they just made this guy’s career happen, right? Maybe I could continue to pop off there. Maybe I could really add something. Maybe my home run ball, Kyle Schwarber, would work in the Roger Center and with David Popkins and with Vlatty.” So yeah, I I’m not really concerned about it. And I think that they’ve done enough now and they’ve made enough money to warrant whatever spend uh Mark and Ross is going to be, you know, proposing to Edward Rogers cuz they’ll come with an amount of money and they’ll say, “Hey, listen. This is what we got to do if we want to get Bob Bashette plus these guys.” And I got a feeling Edward Rogers is looking at the revenue numbers right now and thinking, “All right, let’s smash it.” Yeah, I completely agree, guys. That is the Blue Jays Today Show this Friday, October 10th. But we’re going nowhere. Tomorrow, we’re going to come out with a podcast once we find out who we’re facing in the ALCS, whether it be Detroit or whether it be Seattle. 1. What about Berrios? They have totally disrespected this man. This guy has been a beast for this team and now he's being treated like he doesn't exist. Its shameful.

  2. Sorry… you said Vlad was keeping up with Judge… NO!! The other way around. Vlad was quite a bit better than Judge in the series. Love the content ❤ kept it up!

  3. Guys, either the mics are busted from the last game or you need to turn down the mic gains. Mics are clipping almost all the time.

  4. If Bo is on the roster, he won't be playing short. He'll be the DH. Springer to the outfield, leave Santander, or better yet, IKF, off the roster.
It's the only thing that makes sense.
I really don't like hoping for a certain team to play, but I agree, I would rather have Detroit. Last time we played the Tigers and swept them, we won the game Skubal pitched and we probably won't even see him until game 3.

  5. My prediction is that Bichette and Bassitt are in and Bruihl and Nance are out. I just don’t they they will go without IKFs defense. Say Bichette PH for Gimenez, someone has to come off the bench to play D. It’s highly unlikely Bichette is capable of playing D. Nance didn’t play great and there are 5 RHP ahead of him and I don’t think they can plan a bullpen game in game 4 since there are no off nights between games 3-5 so when would Nance get into a game. Same with Bruihl

  6. Santander’s hit in the seventh inning of game one was big because Varsho ended up on third in a 2-1 game. Toronto got four runs in that inning. It could have been a double play or an out but he came through. I can see him having an impact in the next series.

  7. The question that has to be answered:

Do you think you can you win the ALCS without Bo? If the answer is yes, leave him off the roster until the WS. If the answer is no, can you win without Santander?

  8. Yankies aren't doing so bad…made it to the world series last year and ALDS this…yes they have some flaws…possibly the second fewest flaws in the AL?

  9. Bo…love to see him…we don't want him rushed, we need him healthy for the next series..seems if we make it and play the Dodgers or Cubs, we would have home field advantage which is massive! I want Bassit…I'm still not sold on Bieber…I think I'd be ok if Sherzer was added as well…I know Sherzer hasn't performed of late; but…he's Sherzer! Go Jays!

  10. You'll see HUGE Jay support in Seatle…its the only chance us westerners have to see them…The Clipper offering sailings only for the Blue Jay games in Seatle…

  11. Bo comes in as a pinch hitter like Robert Redford in the Natural, with blood dripping through his uniform, homerun hits the scoreboard, everything explodes. Roll the credits

  12. do not allow people to say this reminds them of 92 and 93, it's nothing close those teams were free agents and players acquired via trades, as soon as it got bad they were gone. they had no loyalty to the team or the city and honestly were not likable maybe Im bias because I did work for the jays. guys like clement, lukes, schnieder and others would never get the chance so seeing them doing this is so much more satisfying it's making watching fun again

  13. why not ease no back by having him pinch hit off the bench the first 2-3 and then punch run for him if needed. he doesn't have to play defense we don't have to play both Santander and springer in defense and we get Bo's bat when the time is right for him to drive in some runs.

  14. Nick torturo is a good actor. He was in Adam Sandlers football movie the longest yard and I believe he portrayed Sammi the bull. In the movie witness to the mob. Started following him after game 1 lol his yankee outburst are legendary lol
