CONDENSED GAME: Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks – 10/09/2025
Live from TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Welcome to Boston Bruins hockey on Nessen. Tonight, the Garden comes alive once again as the Bruins return for the home opener of the 2526 season against Connor Badard and the Chicago Blackhawks. This original six matchup is presented by our New England GMC dealers. We are professional grade. Hello again everybody. Along with Andy Brickley, I’m Jud Serat. Thanks for joining us. Brick, it is so good to get the regular season started here on Nessen even better that it comes on home ice. And for years, teams that came into Boston, especially the old Billy, they felt fear and anxiety. And if the Bruins, they want to reestablish their identity this season. And last night, they took a huge step in that direction with a 3-1 victory in Washington against a really good Capitals team. If they can recapture that home ice advantage here at TD Garden, that’ll go a long way. And the formula doesn’t change given the way they played last night in the 3-1 victory over Washington, which you know, you want to have the goalending. They certainly got that. Jeremy Swayman was better than solid. He was outstanding. It always starts along the goal line if you’re going to be a good defensive team. You know, their team defense was pretty good. They did a nice job in mid ice in the defensive zone. They had competent structure at center ice. They got contributions from their top line. They figured in all three goals, but it was the special teams. was a power play goal for the gamewinner and perfect on the PK five times. That’s the winning formula. Don’t change a thing. Come out and play hard. Waited for that moment. And to grab that win on the road against that team made it even more special. They drop the puck and we are underway at TD Garden for the first time in the regular season. Face off in the right circle. Well, the Bruins then. Conor Bedard, the rookie of the year two seasons ago in the first overall pickback in the 23 draft. Unable to win the draw. He got torched in the faceoff circle against the Panthers on open night. Zaka send it across. The Blackhawks intercept. Send it out. Look out. Bruins making a change. Bard trying to take advantage. Centered. Bruins got a stick on it. And now Middle counters a lead for Arbitson. Arbitson pulls, drags, got around lefton off centered. Middlestead shoots. He scores. Casey Middlenat gets it started in the home opener. Bruins won. Blackhawks nothing. [Music] Oh, this is just great for Casey Middle and the Boston Bruins. You need points from that second unit. Bruins make a change in the neutral zone. I understand you want certain matchups, but it wasn’t the time to go and it looked like Chicago was going to get a scoring chance with numbers coming across the blue line. It did not happen. Bruins do enough defensively to create the turnover and then they get in motion in the offensive zone. Victor Harbertson had a breakaway last night. You were hoping he was going to bury that one. Was denied. He makes a nice little stop and go move, hesitation move, able to pull it around his check and throw the puck to the slot area. Notice that gets to the scoring area just outside the blue paint. just sweeps it underneath Stole to give the Bruins the lead. Lindholm to Postnot with a guy in his hip. Send it up top. He shoots. Sold bloom. The save. Rebound sent through the blue paint by Lindholm to Giki and it’s scooped up by Tyler Bertusi. Hunter Bernard last year led the Blackhawks with a career-high 67 points at only age 19. But the expectations for him are so high. Here’s Bedard. He’ll bang it back in the net. Oh, big check delivered behind the net. Zidorov and this one. Bernard whips it and scores. Bernard got free at the top of the circle and he rifles it by Corposello. Bruins won. Blackhawks won. Yeah, it looked like the Bruins are in good shape. They win a puck battle right down by the Zamboni doors. Puck ends up behind the net. Zidorov who had a strong game last night. I don’t know if it was indecision or just was going to pass it and didn’t think he had a play and all of a sudden the puck turns over. Makes a big hit right there. But now there’s a seam pass available. Bruins trying to take away the middle of the ice. Bard went right through the top of the paint. Now he gets lost in coverage. Now you see him, now you don’t. He gets in a blind spot. He’s ready. He’s ready for the one-time. And there’s his skill set right there. Bullet. Just under eight minutes remaining in the first. One a piece Mackoy wheels his way in. Shold made the stop. That’s not where he wanted to steer it. However, dig it away. Up top it comes. Laurai. Tease it up. Deflected wide. Rebound banked out in front. Solder Bloom trying to keep that puck out of there as we have a meeting of the minds just off the far post. [Music] Tapped in by Mint. Going to get it as Dickinson. Team hits the brakes and we’ll break it all the way down. This is going to be They’re going to say no icing here. They were pointing at Makavoy as if he had a chance to make a play. Okay, decent opening 20 for Boss and like the fact that they got the lead. Like the fact that it was Middle Stat that got it cuz you’re looking for improved play from him here tonight. But then a push back by Chicago and uh you heard Chris Kelly talk about managing the puck. The Bruins need to do more of that, better of that, create more with puck possession the deeper we get into this hockey game. In 53 games, 12 goals, and 26 points. Played a couple of seasons of college hockey at Michigan. 13th overall he was taken by the Blackhawks in the draft. Puck set in. They score. This one ramps up and Krevier tucks it in behind Corposello. [Music] And I thought they were going to blow this play dead. Looked like the Bruins jumped off the hash marks before the puck was dropped, but the play was allowed to continue. Maybe the puck was already in play. But right there, there’s the early jump by Asimont. And I think this puck may have deflect a little bit of Jano. I mean both he and Baddard talking about Asiman on the move before the puck was actually dropped. They let the play continue and it pays off for Chicago. Geeki Tamina had a poke check as bangs it to the corner. Geeki up top. Mackoy across Yoki Haru his shot sails to the glass. Asim playing in an elevated role. with Jano and Mitten as him shoots fired they score. Tanner Jano just off the right post. His first as a Bruin. Bruins two. Blackhawks two. [Music] The Bros starting to pick it up. Pick it up the pace. Starting to think the game a little quicker. That means you’re going to move a little quicker. You’re going to find some open people a little quicker. and you’re going to make better decisions. There you go. Take it back to where they made two, three passes in a row led to a scoring chance. Then they started to spend some time in the offensive zone. Charlie Makavoy let a rush not once but twice. And even in the middle of a line change, you’re able to keep pressure in the offensive zone. The advantage of the second period, your bench closer to the offensive end, those changes happen quicker. And Asimov made a nice play, protected the puck, spun off twice. He was able to spin away from Chicago checkers and then he takes the puck to a dangerous area. Puts a shot on goal. Second chance opportunity by going to the net as you know able to tuck one in short side. Lynholm against FelinO. Kicked out of there. Geeky will take it against FelinO. [Music] They jousted for it at the dock. We got a hand pass. Is that a penalty? Did he try to win the draw by using his glove? That’s a penalty. And Nick Felo is pleading his case. I mean, it was a scrum from our direction. We couldn’t quite see what happened in that scrum. But if he tried to win the draw by using his hand, [Music] that could be a minor penalty. It looked like he hiked the puck. Back to the end boards, Jeff Blashel in his first season as the new head coach of the Blackhawks after spending seven seasons as a head coach in Detroit. in between their threes as an assist with John Cooper in Tampa. And now Felino talking it over with Nikita Zidorov. But the rule is in the NHL, and this came in a few years ago, if you go down in the face out as the centerman and glove that puck back to a teammate, it’s a penalty. It is not a reviewable play. [Music] [Applause] Chicago number 17. Minor for a delay of game, faceoff violation. How about this opportunity for the Bruins? I mean, I guess Chicago’s argument is when is it no longer a faceoff? You know, they dropped the puck, there’s a scrum going on, the clock’s ticking a little bit. And I’m sure Felino his mental block said, “Okay, this isn’t a faceoff anymore. This is now a scrum, so I can make a play with my glove.” Referees felt different. Rones haven’t forced Solder Bloom to make a save yet here on this five on three. And the Blackhawks pound it all the way down. They can can’t let that happen. Those wingers got to get in there quicker. Astronaut wheels his way in with three. Centers deflected back of the net and the Bruins are going to carry this over to start the third period. You get a great win last night to to continue that process to build a team and believe in yourselves. This a huge third period. Bruins start with possession. Astronaut catches power play looking for its first shot on goal of the night. set across porn score. I think it might have been the last little back door who swept it by a ball at Solder Bloom. A power play goal. Bruins three, Blackhawks two. Ain’t this team close to their own net? They can’t defend against you guys when you attack the net from close range. This isn’t a tape totape pass. It’s defended by Murphy with his skates, but the puck’s still available. Attack the net from close range. Lynholm just able to reach in and hammer this puck before Sodom could get that pad across. Before Murphy could make a play on it trying to wrestle it free m here’s Mackoy walks in. Geeky centers play shoots in the sink. The puck wouldn’t set up for post shoots. Conor Blue kept it out of there. A desperation save as he slid across to the post. Bruins still have it. Blackhawks back to full strength. Terrain and scoops it up. He’ll head up. He’s got numbers. Fleshoff drops. Veroski shoots and scores. Walked right down the gut. Bruins three. Blackhawks three. Bruins just get beat up the ice and they’re trying to make a change on the back check. Not good habits. Just talked about details. Just talked about details with a 3-2 lead. [Applause] [Music] Get the defense during the rush. Now Barovsky, he’s the third forward. He’s coming late. I mean, generally it’s the defenseman that’s coming late, but not in this case. But they have a four on three because you get beat up the ice. Terrain tracks it. Lechenov Bernard Lechenov grabs far side centered out in fronti down and Corposal with the left leg. Keeps it out at the far post and then Sora cleans up the trash. [Music] And now you got Bard out in front, locked up. [Applause] That’s with Pablo Saka. And the tempers start to get a little hotter. [Applause] Now you got Saka jumping over as Carali started up with Leonard. Corali takes him down. The linesman will step on top of those two and we’ll see what if anything gets called here. [Music] Now the Bruins looking after one another, sticking up for one another even though they’re down four on five in this situation. The rally was taking on two guys the entire time during the scrums. Petusi trying to body one and just possess it. Try to get a piece of it and tuck it in on stick side. Bruins do enough along with Corposal to not allow that. And then from close range had to follow up on the Puzzi chance. [Applause] They get in there tight on Corposal. The Bruins didn’t like that. [Music] You know, this brings teams closer together, Jud, right? That’s what it’s all about. Assuming they kill this uh 4 seconds. consider it killed. So each team will pick up a point. The two teams traded goals in the first, second, and the third. Back to Bedard. He’ll crisscross to the far circle. Renzel centers Corposell. What a save on Nazar. Bruins have it. Here’s Postron. He’ll burst up the ice. Renzo’s back. Pos twoon one. Shoots just wide. Look out here. It’s going to be a twoon. Bernard and Nazar. Bernard walks in. Shoots. Flash the glove. Pulls onto it. Listen to the garden. Bruins trying to direct a little traffic. Veroski bobbled. Teddorov closes. pins him in the corner and it’s switch to Mitten. He’s going to have a long twoonone with Geeky Mitten game on his stick. Walks in, shoots, and scores. Bruins win. Fraser men the game winner in overtime. And the Bruins went back to back to start the regular season. And you got two celebration piles. The kid wins it in overtime. They had all day on that twoon-one because of the way Zidorov defended back in the defensive zone, but the rest of the bench or the other half of the bench, they went right to Corposalo and rightfully so. What he did in overtime was spectacular. We love the way Swayman played last night in the win over Washington. And you love the way Copaso dug in in overtime. Well, the way he played all game, too. The way he dug in in overtime to give you that twoon-one opportunity was just fantastic. I mean, that’s a great defending play by Zidorov. Chicago. They’re two deep. Mitten reads it nicely. His timing was good. And then the confidence not to defer to the veteran. I mean, if you’re going to allow me to improve my angle, you’re going to allow me to get to the dot and overplay the pass, I’m taking the shot. And it’s a beauty. Block aside inside that far post to win it in OT. Wow, that’s a huge two points for Boston right there. What a way to start the

Corrected 2 problems from previous game: out shot opponent, and not only 1st line scored!

Team win!
Go B’s!!!
Korpi was unreal in OT
4:44 This whole sequence is awesome to watch. Khusnutdinov winning two different board battles and protecting the puck and then getting it out to Lohrei who blasts a slap shot that's immediately rebounded on net by Kastelic and McAvoy crashes the net. They are looking more and more aggressive, I love it.
I love how the defensemen are maintaining the zone and shooting more. It's creating so many more opportunities for the forwards.
They actually look like a team this year im pumped
