“He Won’t Be Playing Tomorrow” | Lindy Ruff On Josh Norris Injury Update | Buffalo Sabres

Well, Lindy, let’s start with Norris. Uh, what’s the update on him? Uh, being evaluated uh with the with the doctors right now. So, we’ll have an update later this afternoon as soon as he gets back, but the indications are he won’t be playing tomorrow for sure. Are Benson and Power going on the trip or won’t? Uh, Benson will not go. Uh, he’s going to be let out today. Uh, like I said last night, I think if it was up to him, he’d be on the plane. But, um, there’s some precautions we have to take, but I’m optimistic that he’ll play probably as early as Wednesday. Start skating. I think he’ll start skating even tomorrow. Owen Owen better um, you know, was sick, is is starting to feel better. Uh, I would anticipate him making the trip and and being available to us. How’s Norris’s head space? Have you spoken to him? This guy’s been through so much. I I I have not. Um I I know that he’s not not dealing with it very good. I mean, he’s pretty disappointed with with where he’s at with with this injury. How do you get deal with it as a team now moving forward? Uh you know, I think you look at uh we go back to last year, that line of Kulick and Benson and Thompson were heck of a line for us. We’ll go back to that as soon as we get Benny back. Um, you know, we get Kessle ring and power back and uh, you know, that’ll help us. Greenway is not that far away. You know, another body to to fill in. Uh, we have to, like I said, we’re we’re dealing with a little bit of adversity right now. Um, we got to get through it and we got to win hockey games. You know that in the course of a season you’re going to deal with adversity, but you’re kind of shaking your head. It’s one game. There’s a lot going on here for one game. Well, it’s like I said, there’s a lot of weird stuff going on. uh stuff that, you know, in Benny’s case was, you know, something I I don’t think I’ve ever seen as a coach. Um, but the good news is he’s he’s doing good. He should be ready to go. Um, maybe this just a test for us right off the bat to see how strong we can be and and to get through this. You know, you got to find we’ll have to find ways to win uh differently. I I think we’ve played well enough defensively. We’re in a onegoal game. We had after the first 10 minutes of the first um we had our opportunities to get back in the game. Um continue to play well defensively and and make sure offensively we get we get bigger and stronger around the other team’s net. You mentioned passing after the Ranger game. If that improves, do you think you will get better opportunities? You know, I think we look at the Pittsburgh game. We we generated uh that last preseason game, we generated upwards of 20 chances. So, a lot of it was uh some of our entries we didn’t execute. Some of our power play plays we didn’t we didn’t execute, weren’t on the tape. We were a second slow. I think it a little bit of pre-season play, you know, when you have a little bit more time. Um we had a desperate team that um you know, didn’t play well in their building at beat and they they were better in the small areas. They were better in the faceoff circle. Uh some of those one-on-one situations, they they won more than we did. We can’t let that happen. So, your thought your thought is you’re going to want to see the same desperation from your guys that you saw last night from the Rangers, right? For sure. Um, I think that’s the the mindset of our group. We talked about it this morning and uh, no excuses. Let’s just move forward. Dun meet you at the airport. What’s that? Is Josh Dung going to meet you at the airport? Yes. Yes. What What did you see from him in the preseason? He stuck around a long preseason. We uh I thought from the top of the circles down a big body that got to the net played well for us uh physical um you know we’ll make a decision where he’s in but I think uh he’s being rewarded for having a good camp. When you look at a guy like Morris, do you toy with putting Tage back in the middle for a game or two or whatever? Do you toy with that? Um, I think it’s a possibility, but I think I first toy with with that connection of Kik and Thompson going back together, uh, because it was so good for us. Uh, but I think that is always an option. I think during the game, it can be an option to take a few shifts. So, you talked about the summer that Norris had and how, you know, good of a job that he did in terms of getting healthy. How much do you feel for a guy like that that worked his way all the way back? just uh he he put an incredible amount of work into getting his say the best summer he’s ever had. Um and it showed with the way he was skating the preseason he had. Um you know it’s it’s something that has kind of followed him around and u I I mean you you can’t say how bad the guy feels. I mean we feel bad. He he knows that that he was going to be a big part of this and now short term it looks like it won’t be. The last one and then we have talking. Do you know yet if it’s a brand new injury for it? It is a brand new not a rece. It is. It is a brand new injury. Yeah. Um, I say similar to the last one, but brand new.

Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff spoke to the media following practice on October 10, 2025. 1. FIRE ADAMS NOW, let Kekalainen take over! WTF why would you trade for Norris with his BRUTAL medical history? . He has never come close to playing a full season, at least Cozens played 95% of his games in Buffalo!

  2. Ruff looks and acts like he aged 10 years after one game. Like he knows the death spiral has already begun. Offensively, they had nothing last night A lot of shots but not more than 2 or 3 were of the dangerous variety. No urgency. Dahlin with about 3 bad giveaways by playing cutesy with the puck. Johnson looked out of place. Bryson adds nothing this team needs to get over the hump. Did Quinn even play? No leadership on the ice. No leadership in the locker room. The Rangers get shut out in their home opener/1st game of season. Everybody and their brother knew they'd come into Buffalo breathing fire, looking to make amends. But, did Buffalo look ready? No! Did they look prepared? No! That's inexcusable. It's only 1 game but it doesn't portend good things given this group of players and their history. Season 15 w/o the playoffs…here they come.
