Zay Flowers: I Feel Like I Got Faster and Stronger | Baltimore Ravens
say when you go through like what you did to last season, I mean, you know, watching from the sideline with the playoffs, does it motivate you even more, go out there and try to get back to get back to that spot? Um, definitely. But it just it sucked to miss that time and miss the playoffs cuz you work all season then you get hurt last game. So, it definitely motivated me to get back on the field, push my um rehab, my therapy, and get back right to where I was. But, I feel better than before. Yeah. you and working out in the off season. Was there anything you were focusing on with that? And how do you kind of think that’ll translate into training camp? Um, it wasn’t a lot of specific um stuff that we was working on. It’s just we wanted to get better at everything. So, we went out for a weekend and trained together that whole weekend and put a lot of stuff together and we expected it to translate to the camp and to the season. Marlin said that you should also have started to be part of the early morning workout club. So, I guess how did you guys get involved in that? And can you tell us just like what it’s been like? The thing is me, me and Bait and Marlo, we usually the ones that I always see here first in the morning, but the whole offseason I was getting up at 5 6:00 in the morning and going do my workouts cuz I was just um get my schedule right for camp and just preparing myself. And I know Bait a early guy and Marlo early guy so I was expecting them seeing them in the morning. When you’re that fast, how do you get faster in the offseason like you’ve done? Um, man, you just work. You just work. I was running hills. I trained with my trainer um on specific stuff that I wanted to get done and we got it done. And I feel like I got faster. I got stronger. Uh, I felt better than I did before, even before I got hurt. You seen that out there already with you guys going headtohead? Have they said anything to you? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of people said um that I got faster that I got more explosive and hey, I just put the work in and I just what I expected. What do you think? [Applause] Um, I mean, I play wherever they need me. So, wherever wherever Coach Monkin and Ju say I got to go, that’s where I feel I can make something happen. So, it’s not really I’m paying attention to that if I’m being honest. I’m just just playing ball and going. the 99 club in Matt and I wanted to unveil for him. What’ you think of that? Man, supposed to be 99 every year. He’s supposed to have eight of those. So, I don’t know how he got two, but he’s supposed to have eight. It was It was dope though to give him a chain and get him ready and like me and Bait brought it to him, you know, and we just building chemistry with him and I think that’s something to be a part of and that’s special. every day. What does that do for you guys on the sideline? How does his ability? I mean, you know, he he a vet, but DeHop been doing this for what, 13 years? I was 11 years old when he started doing this. So, you know, he he vetted. He he know what he doing and he know how to get the younger guys going. He know how to he know how to get himself going. Rounds seem to be just an explosive for you. last year and a lot I know a lot of times heard about these Browns who really seem like this much. What is it about? Um you you just I just know how to create separation going across the field or being explosive out of my routes and being able to separate. I’ll say that’s that’s the reason I’m um I’m good on crossing routes cuz I’m explosive out of breaks and I get in and out of them. Yeah, I know they’re measuring all the athletics from practice, your speeds, all that stuff. Is that stuff showing you faster this year? And how did you specifically train to get your best? Um, I mean, I I don’t really check the the speed. I don’t really check the stuff. Sam usually come back and give us, but um I was running hills. I was running hills. I was running hills with a weight vest or I was cutting up the hill. I was just doing a lot of heel work and then I’ll go and work on the field and do a lot of straight line stuff. You’ve been making more. Oh yeah. I think we going to hit a lot more a way more than we did last year. And we’ve been working on it, too. So, I think it’ll show throughout the season. Last off season and past catchers you guys have. Were there any conversations about how you guys? I mean, it been that way since I’ve been here. So, we’ll figure it out. Last off season, you talked about trying to diversify your route and find more ways to help the offense. Do you still feel like you’re adding more routes and more versatility to your game or is it more about perfecting the things that you’re already good at? Um I feel like I feel like I can run every route in the route tree. So I feel like I just got to detail um the routes and just detail the little things and I feel like yeah that’s I feel like I can run everything if I’m being honest. Z, what are the changes made on defense this offseason? You see them every day and now with the pads on full speed, what are you seeing from the outside? Oh, a lot more physical, a lot more talking, a lot more communication. Everybody confident, especially Jire. That’s probably the most confident DB I’ve seen like ever if I’m being honest. Say recently you had some fun on social media with the fans saying try to make moves and just get up field. Is there anything specific you want to say to that? Um, no. I would just like sometimes they right, all right, you got to run straight. You know what I mean? But sometimes like a lot of it move fast out there. So, hey, I do what I do. So, I can’t really say nothing about it, but I’m going to work on that though. I’m going to keep on running straight. Start a training camp last year. You said that you wanted to step up more as a leader. Do you have any personal goals like that for this training camp or building upon that? I really want to build off that cuz, you know, every year since I’ve been here, I had a vet and the vet kind of took the leadership role and I’ve been learning from them. So, I just want to take a step towards that and I’m learning from DeHop still. I’m learning from bait too. So, it’s like I’m still just taking that step as a leader. Just is there anything that you learned from Ja on the other side as a receiver that kind of helped? Um, he just played he played unorthodox like he play his own way. So, just seeing somebody play like that and going against it in practice, it just helped me prepare in the game cuz you never know what he going to do. You never know if he going to jump jam. You never know if he going to bail. You never know he going to speed turn or zone turn and play, man. Like, the man could do anything. You never know. So, it seems like you rarely take a break away from football, even in the offseason, unless you’re hurt or something. Is it hard for you to step away? And is do you think a lot of your success comes from, hey, I’m just going to outwork a lot of people? Um, I mean, it’s my job, so I might as well do that. And and I love I love my job. So, I love working. I love I love playing football. I’ve been playing football since I was four years old. So, it’s just something I wake up and naturally do and naturally just get fun out of it and get joy. Yeah. Thank you. Appreciate it.

As a lifelong Ravens fan with deep roots in Baltimore. Let me say…
"I am so proud of you Zay. Watching you develop and grow on the team. As well as in the league. A real pleasure to watch you do what you do with the flock week in & week out every Sunday. Keep up the great work young blood. Really happy to see you being a part of the breakfast club and embracing your roles with the team. God bless."

Zay looking kind of swole!
Do we have to do these at an active Chuck E. Cheese?
FANS BEEN BEGGGGGGING TO CUT THE DEAD TIME OUT 😅 AND WE KEEP DOING IT EVERY SINGLE VIDEO 😢
FIX THE SOUND
Everybody ignoring the biggest hole on the team just like last year we have thee worst punter in the game smh
Seems kinda lazy to keep Bate on the thumbnail
MIC THE REPORTERS
It wouldn’t be a Ravens preseason without JAD getting hurt
Media team really needs to learn to put time stamps on this, come on now y’all a multi billion dollar organization and we can’t edit a YouTube video?
Zay out there grinding, see the busted lip lol
We could try to split the reporters into 3 sections (Left – Middle – Right). Each section has 1 microphone that the reporters can pass around / share with the next reporter within the sector. I think it could resolve the 'hearing the questions' problematic. Just brainstorming.
Lip swollen a lil
Stop doing interviews on a school playground jeez so ridiculous and unprofessional
Thanks for the subtitles
Zay is looking more sturdy and swole he's getting over 1K yards easily
DeAndre Hopkins is the perfect mentor for our younger wide receivers because he's that dude frfr look at Tez Walker he's cutting up
