Aaron Glenn Postgame Press Conference (9/21) | New York Jets at Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Week 3

All right. Um, on the injury front, uh, two guys of note. Um, Quincy had a shoulder. Uh, I see exactly how he’s going to be when we get back. And Marcelino, uh, hamstring. Um, I think he’ll be just fine. Um, when it comes to the game, man, these guys, I mean, they fought their ass off. uh love every one of those guys for how they came out in the second half. Um the thing is we didn’t do anything different when it comes to um mentality and what we were trying to do. Uh obviously the game the pace had to pick up a little bit uh when it comes to our offense. Um man, there was just small critical things that we got to get better. Um and we will do that. We did. But today showed me a lot about who we were as a team and who we’re going to be also. So, um, a number of things that that we got to correct. Um, and I’m going to say this again, there’s no such thing as moral victories when it comes to us. Um, and we’re not the same team. We’re not the same team at all. Um, and I’m looking forward all right to our next challenge, which would be uh against Miami. So, uh, we’re going to go to work next week. Um, continue to look at those things that we need to fix and we’re going to hone in on that. But I give a lot of credit the way these guys came out and fought. Um, no quitting any of these guys. Um, but we just have to correct those real small things when it comes to the turnovers, when it comes to, um, listen, this game wasn’t won and lost on penalties at all. So, I know it’s going to be a huge thing. Um, but when you look at the facts, um, you let me know where we were in penalties before this game. Um, so I’m not even going to use that as an excuse. So, we got to get better. I know that we will get better. Um, but I like exactly uh, the way our guys fought. see like Tyrod was, you know, getting a little bit more rhythm in the second half. Just kind of what what did you see from him in that second half? That’s exactly what he did. Um I think Tanner did a really good job. We talked that at halftime as far as um some of the some of the calls that we knew that he liked. We want to make sure we get those in. Um and we got them in at a more rapid pace. And um just like any quarterback, man, once those guys get into a rhythm, man, they start to see the game a lot quicker and things really slow down for them. And I thought that’s what happened to him uh going into second half. The thing that we have to do is man, how quickly can we start that process of us being able to move the ball and make those plays. Um and we have to do a better job. That’s one of the things that I was talking about how we got to go to work next week and make sure that we correct those things and making sure we start a little bit faster. What were kind of the emotions like at the end there? You go from that high of that punt return touchdown and then come right back and score obviously, but um man, it’s it’s always tough. Um, but here’s the thing that uh we also talked about is is confidence and belief. And that’s why I say these guys are not the same. These guys believe and we’re going to continue to believe. Um, and no matter what the situation is, this something we talked about going back to training camp, no matter no matter what the situation is, we can always win the game. And those guys showed that. So, I was proud of that. that um all the things that we talked about in the offseason when it comes to that man these guys believed in that and they showed it. There was a lot of pressure. You knew they’re going to blitz a lot and there was a lot of pressure. Can you just talk about that and some of the issues that that blitz was causing? That’s nothing new from a Todd Bose defense. That’s what they always do and um there’s really nothing to really elaborate on. I mean that’s who he is as as a defensive coach. um he likes to pressure and when you do that man we got to be spot on with how we protect. Um we also got to be spot on by getting the ball out too and I thought we did a better job of that in the second half of being able to do that. Um so I thought across the board our players understood exactly what we had to do and they did a better job of that in the second half. We just got to again make sure we do that better in the first half. Aaron, when you say we’re not the same team, you said in your opening statement, what do you what do you mean you’re not the same team as what? Well, we’re not the same team as what everyone say old Jess. these guys going to fight no matter what the situation is. Don’t there’s no give up in them. I hate that term and I really don’t know what that term mean, but I know there’s they’re not the same old Jets. All right, so um these guys are fighters. I love these guys. And listen, we know we have work to do. And I said this before, this is not an instant coffee team, right? This is a team that’s going to continue to keep stacking until we get to where we need to get to um to where we can consistently win these games. And um again, I I I like where we at, but I know we have a lot of work to do. When Lazard scored, could you just go through the thought process? You kicked the the extra point. Yeah. Whereas a two-pointer there would have protected you from them making a field goal. I mean, hindsight is always something that you guys always talk about, you know? So, I wish I would have known that because that was going to happen. But the thing is, it gave us a chance to um go and score a touchdown like we did and get the lead. So, um I’m not going to go back and and just think about what could have, what should have happened. That’s what you guys do. Um I just know this. I know our guys fought their ass off to try to win this game. And I like everything that we did when it comes to decision- making when it comes to this game. Did you feel like Will was getting close? I know he had the running into the kicker earlier in the game. Did you did you see that coming in possibly? our special team coordinator, Banjo does a good job of identifying uh guys that can go make a play for us and it just so happened doing scout team, you know, will want to rush the kick and he was rushing from the edge and me and Banjo look at each other like, “Listen, we might give this guy a chance.” And then we um and we did. you know, we had some edge rushes and then the one critical one where he was able to leap and be able to make a play um was one that that Banjo did a really good job of of of calling at that time of need. Um and listen, playmakers make plays and that’s what this game is all about. I mean, there’s a number of things that can go through a game. There flows it goes through a game, but at the end of the day, your playmakers got to make plays and uh that’s what Will did. Couple more. did with the pass rush uh of uh the Jets today, one sack against the patchwork offensive line with walk out and go to key out and work out. Is that a little disappointing? Um you know what, how many holding calls they have? Seven. Seven. I’m not disappointed at that. So when you look at the totality of what happened, I thought those guys did a really good job. The thing that we do have to do a better job of, we had him in our grasp a couple of times and we just got to finish those plays. So, um I know for a fact that we can make all these deals of, you know, what could have happened, but the thing is they forced seven holding calls. Um and we had a guy in our hands and that’s what I’m disappointed in. We had him and we didn’t finish the play. Aaron, as a coach, how do you balance? I mean, you stressed the positives about how they didn’t quit, you know, but at the other, you know, there’s no moral victories and you you are 0 and three right now. So, how do you present that to the team in terms of a balance? Well, you just said it. We’re 0 and3. We’re 0 and3. How many more games do we have left? 14. That speaks for itself. We have a lot of games to go play. And you can build on this. You can build on this. The one thing I don’t do, which I I understand that New York media tries to do, is the negative parts of it, but I’m not going to be that way. I’m let you guys deal with that. You know, we’re going to look at the things that we did well and we’re going to continue to push forward because we’re going to improve and we’re going to make sure we get over that hump. do know that. I saw Gardner. You didn’t mention him among the injuries. Well, he came back in. Oh, yeah. Make sure you look at the game. Tyra’s coming in. All right. What was the difference between the first half and the second half? It looks like you made some good adjustments at halftime with the OC.

  1. Don’t care about comments really love the coaching staff not the defensive coordinator as much but u can see it getting better with scheme fits getting better or even next year

  2. Aaron Glenn was a sub decent player on some really bad teams. His legacy is overrated. He is a moron. The only challenge this team offers, is the eternal question at this point; why is this team still in the league? Lmao.

  3. People are upset that he isnt pissed off by the loss, but he knows whatbit takes to turn a franchise around. He's done it as a player AND as a coach, and it doenst come in the first year. Let this man do what he came here to do. The Jets lose because they are a losing franchise, today i didnt see them quit. The same ol Jets would roll over in the 3rd qt. This team kept fighting. Thats the foundation. Wins will come. But believing in themselves as a team comes first. Thats what AG is building

  4. Love Glenn he sees the bigger picture, long run game!! Tampa is a playoff team having been playing together for years & jets only have months! We're going to grow from here on lets gooo nyj

  5. While I see some strides on offense, more often winding up in 3rd and short rather 3rd and long, establishing the run and moving the ball, the defensive lapses are worrisome, particularly the missed tackles and long runs allowed. Need to work on the fundamentals of tackling and get our guys in better positions to clamped down on defense and give the team a chance to get some w's. It's a young rebuilt team trying to gel under a new system, which will take time. Keep progressing

  6. Dude acts as if this team is better than before, while he is 0-3! LMAO bottom line, the first thing he did was get rid of 2 HOF players (Rodgers and Adams), and replaced him with a RB playing QB! LMAO and it has been all down hill since. Same old jets, Same old Glen. I have to laugh: "These guys are not the same." LOL Dude, you are 0-3.

  7. He likes were they are at! LMAO! dude, you just lost another game that you really had no business being in. You are 0-3! you say no moral victory, but then after ANOTHER loss, and a 0-3 record, you say, "I like where we are at," and "these guys are not the same as before." LMAO This is the joker that the jets brought in, who has totally F-up this team. Not the same old jets, much worse actually.

  8. This isn’t a dead team same record as last year with a way different feel I honestly feel we can play with anyone when we play our football but when we make the dumb mistakes and turn the ball over it’s so hard to win yet two turnovers and we still almost won hell of a game guys I was there and man that McDonald play was everything made the drive over there and the money spent well worth it I have no voice today from yelling scoop and score but man what an ending what a game such an emotional rollercoaster

  9. Aaron Glenn – I don't celebrate moral victories

Aaron Glenn in this video – WE ARE FIGHTERS TO THE END… Sure he did not learn from Rich Kottie and NOT Bill Parcells? Bill Parcells gets all these guys that cost the team games THE F*** out!

Aaron Glenn is a fraud and needs to go… What a pathetic hiring by the Jets

You are 0-3 You are Build for this…

  10. Unfortunately a lot of hype with the coaching hire…. Glenn is a rookie HC.. the mistakes are obvious….the defense coordinator is average at best.. they need to address the WR2 position .. they need to consistently run the ball early and often..need to be better all around.. gonna be a long season.. time will tell but it’s hard to get excited for this team..

  11. Will McDonald does this! EVERY time he's lined up in that spot against an FG!! Shouldve done it the last play too 😡

Any/every possible "game-winning" kick we're up against, he needs to be in that spot!!! He's been doing that since rookie.

  12. You got so lucky that you even got in this game at all Wilkes is the worst defensive coordinator that ever existed. You didn’t have no business being on the same field as the buccaneers you’re lucky bowls felt sorry for you. You can’t be close. You stink I did like your dance moves. Looks like you were freed.

  13. Swarms of Jets defenders on Mayfield and they all break their ankles because of a little juke. Not just once either. Embarrassing!
Also to not be able to ride the momentum shift and energy after you're about to be down 9, to being up 1 on an incredible block is inexcusable.
If you can't rally behind an amazing turn of events like that…there's trouble in NY

  14. Man you Jets fans are so fake. You think a team who has been bad for a while should immediately improve under a new head coach. The lions went 3-13-1 their first season with Dan. They lost their first 10 games before things clicked and look at them now. They got better and better each year. Things take time to rebuild and you guys are giving up after the first three games. At least two of those losses were only by 2 points. You learn and readjust after each game and draft better next year.

  15. Wow just wow. This guy is beyond clueless. You’re 0-3 and he likes where they are. He’s the HC of the Jets and he doesn’t know what “same old Jets” means?? Just start searching for the next coach, seriously.

  16. I could never understand for the life of me, how we can stand behind this organization. I've been a fan for 27/28 years. Its painful. Makes you want to stop watching all together or start watching a new team smh
