Seven for 14, three of six from three. This is our first home look at Kennedy Chandler, number 14 in the white. A little too hot to handle on that pass. I’d be surprised if we saw Maxi again. Maybe a little bit in the Well, just for the simple fact that it’s preeason and you want to make sure that you’ve got him ready. You’ve given him 12 minutes more than anybody else has gotten a workout tonight. So, he’s definitely gotten his legs under him. Maybe we’ll see him again. I think I think you might be right. I just hope I hope you’re wrong. Good effort by Chandler on the defensive end there. So 17 for Maxi in the first quarter. Wendell Carter Jr. led the way for the Magic. He had nine. Anthony Black with seven off the bench. Just a couple of turnovers for Orlando, just three turnovers for the Sixers. So again, a clean, fast, fun first quarter. This is Dilva who is in his sophomore season now for the Magic. Drafted out of Colorado and became again because of those early season injuries. Remember Ben Carro missed 32 games with his oblique injury. France Vagner had one and then Mo Vagner and Jaylen Suggs went out for the season with their knee injuries and and Diloba got a lot a lot of run in his rookie campaign. He’s shown you here early on. He likes to put the ball on the floor. He’s gone left twice and gotten all the way to the basket. Makes the three that time driving down the left side of the lane. Bataz trying to back down. Bun a little hook shot from Goataz. Go Bat. Seventh season for him and the country of Georgia. No. Fullourt pickup by the Magic. Sixer teammates had to come back and help inbound the ball. Salis two-man game with Boner. Wanted to get it to a down but couldn’t because of Bataz. Five on the shot clock. Ubé pass to Silva. Betaz coming over to help. Yeah, getting the timing down was Bataz coming over from the weak side. And we’ve seen Bona do that a lot and Bona blocks it right back. Silva knocks it away. Vagner the kick. Richardson from the corner. Chase knocked down a couple of them. Made it look real easy. You talked about how high they are on this guy. He fills a real need for this team in three-point shooting. Yeah, Salis can’t get it to go, but Bona, another offensive rebound. Hacked and the finish. That is a big man bucket by Demona going up against Vataz and Vagner getting the best of both of them. This is the other end of the threes. And that put an end to a nagic run. Walker battling with Bataz and that should be Sixers basketball. Yep. And it is. So more great effort on the offensive end. And that’s one of the things this guy can do. only listed as 6’7, but Jabari Walker is a great rebounder for his size. He’s got some long arms, too. And he competes, started his career in Portland with the Blazers. Said he was hoping to sign a more than a two-way contract, but the market doesn’t lie. Gets it out to Kelly Ubé Jr. who knocks down the corner triple. Good find from Walker. Thought about keeping it himself, but he looked like he was a little off balance. Offensive foul from the Magic. Yeah. And I think that’s on Fron Vagner. Orlando foul number 22 Freris. Thank you for that confirmation. Yeah. Didn’t see the foul, but not going to deny it. Yeah. Sure. I’m sure the refs are right. I’m sure they are. But just to finish that Jabari Walker story. So, he was hoping to sign, you know, a contract couple of seasons, but he said, “Hey, the market doesn’t lie. So, I’m going to prove myself.” I looked around and I love the talent that the Sixers have, including this guy as UB draws the foul on Richardson. and they also have a need at the forward position. So, he talked yesterday after practice and Jabari Walker just couldn’t say enough about UB and Maxi and how welcoming pointing out that he doesn’t approve. Misses the first. There’s Fron again. Didn’t play still coming back from uh spending a month grinding at Euro Basket with uh the German championship squad. But great season for Fron last year. 24 points as UB splits the free throws. He and Paulo the first Magic teammates since Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardway to average 20 points in the same season. Told you about that since. Every time you say since it means good things. I know 30 years. I had to I had to check my math correctly. The 9596 season was like that. 30 years ago. Bat around and out. There’s Walker soaring in to grab that rebound. Good save too to get it into his teammate Kelly who made himself available. Magic leading the Sixers 4138 under nine to go in this first half. UB looking for Bona and Adm does just enough to tap that one in and the pass was high enough that Adam Dem could get a piece of it but Taz thought he had a beat on it but it went to a Dem. I mean, when VJ Edgecom gets going as UB knocks it away, it’s going to remain Magic Basketball. But Edgecom’s athleticism, Bona’s athleticism, UB’s athleticism, this going to be a fun team to watch this year. Yeah, I’m looking forward to Jared McCain coming back as we take a look at that act of his game. He loves it. I totally love that part of his game. Damn altering that. UB with a rocker. He looks like he’s emotionally fatigued, too, from having gone through Euro Basket. Don’t sleep on how emotionally taxing that tournament can be. I mean, a month. Yeah, it is a lot of pressure on those guys because they’re representing their teams. It’s not just a club environment. Vagner back out on the floor. I think they’re making him come back out on the floor just for the moment. Maybe then maybe we’ll just see Franco lay down because again helping lead Germany to that that title. It’s been such a fun. It’s not the first time that they’ve won it all either. Germany won it a couple years ago as well. Kelly hits the first. Kelly said, uh, obviously did a lot of work this off seasonason as he hits them both. It’ll be Sixers basketball. And also cuz he he’s had a number of wrist injuries. We know he had the the sprain of the hand last year. And he said, “I didn’t realize how much like flexibility I’d lost in my hand and and thumbs and fingers.” So, he worked with actually a hand therapist to increase his range of motion because that was really affecting the shot. He was disappointed with the the three-point percentage last year. Well, and if it you it all depends on how it feels leaving your hand, too. It’s got to feel good. And if it doesn’t, then your shots chances are going to be off. Walker quick catch and shoot from the corner. No. Bona crashing and bounces to Ben Carro and Ubé. Thought he got away with the steal, but a whistle. I thought Ben Carro just kind of lost his balance there. I don’t know if the contact caused him to head to the floor. Kelly tried to cut in front of him. The officials deemed it too much contact. Watch it again. Tried to abuse to call it a football. You see, if this was a soccer match, we would have played on because Bow kept the B. Back to American basketball. Yes, please. Ver good move. Just couldn’t get the finish. But gets a couple of guys to leave their feet and gets to finish it and the foul. Go Betaz will head to the line. And even the backups a rebound too. Batazi the Georgian doing a good job with multiple efforts underneath the basket. The pump fake. We were talking about Carter Jr. finally being healthy for for Orlando last year. This guy was too and he was a big part of their success getting into the play playoffs again and he’s definitely found home in Orlando completing the three-point play. Got a nice touch for a big guy. Does a decent job of rim protection. He plays big when needed. Got Ubé, Walker, Chandler, Salace, and Broom. The five on the floor right now for the Sixers. And that was a good idea just the pass a little bit off. Chandler saw Kelly lurking there on the baseline. Was a little late too, right? Kelly was already up in the air. Chandler has it swatted away. This is the best I’ve seen go play again. Something about settling into your surroundings, right? You could you could see last year when we saw Orlando that he was just really enjoying finally having a spot and a role even though it was coming off the bench. Now a fulloff season with Orlando. Well, and when you’re on a good team like this, they don’t ask you to do too much, right? Just do your job. Sixers turn it over. Under seven to go in this first half and Brow fouled by Broom. Hasn’t gotten a lot of opportunities, Paulo. One of six from the field thus far. And this is and Vancero shooting a couple found by the rookie Janai Broom just before we stepped away again we forget he had those careerhigh 50 points against the Pacers October 28th last year and all of us were thinking oh man this is this is his breakout season and then the very next game he tore his oblique and missed 34 straight games but he was I mean if he starts this year like he started last year look at Eastern Conference. Well, and having been around him a little bit this summer, he’s very well aware of how last year went and wants to make sure that for Salis, Barlo, Chandler, Broom, and Ubé, the 56ers out there. Salace the fade away. Tough shot going from right to left. Little fade away. Having to bring it back over that right shoulder and knock it down. Impressive move from Salace. Man, he averaged almost 19 points a game for Wake Forest last season. No more senses from me since last year. Black down the lane. Can’t connect. This is Salace getting out and running. Dropping it off for Chandler. Short on the floater. And Ben Carroll. There’s that strength again. Just one hand rips it down. Sixers look a little unsure on that fast break. They were looking backward instead of trying to look forward. Taz with the offensive rebound and Carol spinning hanging short the whistle which I think my my partner might disagree with. Just out of he was out of control. You know, you don’t want to reward those kind of plays. You see the disbelief by Carlo and I’m feeling him. Big girl rattles in the first. But yeah, you mentioned being from the Pacific Northwest. Of course, Pal’s mom was a star at the University of Washington. I’m very good friends with one of mom’s best friends, Elise Woodward, who also played with her at Washington. Elise told me, “Dude, if I could have bought stocking this kid when he was two, he was that he was that kid who was catching 30-yard football passes, who was hitting three-pointers on an on a 10-ft hoop when he was two.” Yeah. Just freakish. But at least didn’t buy the stock. So I told her at least it was her bad. But yeah, he po like so many young stars in the league, their moms were the basketball star, which is just awesome. This is Hunter. Salace over to Broom was a star at Auburn. Salace foul. A lot of contact. There was a lot of contact. That’s what Hunter’s looking for. Started last season. Edwards getting it off just before the shot clock. had to shoot that [Music] 50 46 Magic in front as we approach the 5minute mark. [Music] Desmond Bane keeps it himself. Lays it up and in. Desmond said he knew there was going to be changes in Memphis in the offseason with how last season ended and just so fortunate to to end up in Orlando with this young group that he’s looking forward to leading cuz you know Desmond played in a lot of postseason games with the Memphis Grizzlies is here’s a whistle Chandler found as he drove towards the cup. Well, he’s a proven commodity to Bane as we take a look at him coming off that little screen. Twoman action with he and Carter. Keeps it himself all the way to the cup. Excellent addition to any team, let alone this Magic team. And this guy right here will probably be the the point guard for the Delaware Blue Coats for much of the season. 23-year-old Kennedy Chandler, Tennessee native. Played his collegiate ball one season at Tennessee despite your Duke Blue Devils in North Carolina and Kentucky. They were all interested in him, but couldn’t convince him to uh leave the home state of Tennessee. Bane a little too fast for his own good. Couldn’t couldn’t hang on to that one. So, it’ll be Sixers ball. Yeah. Tried to get it and go do two things at once and it just didn’t work out for Bane to the Sixers advantage. But his teammate Palo Vancero has called Desmond the perfect addition because of his veteran leadership. This is Broom. Flips it up and in. Broom. Broom. That’s Broom’s game. Interior play. He’s got nice touch. Good finish. Aer. Nice D there. Yeah, nice concentration to knock that one away. Chandler up and in. Defense to offense once again for the Sixers. Yeah, good defense is translating into opportunities down the other end of the floor. Run outs and attacking of the rim. And Maxi and Drum loving the little wrist flick over there on the bench. It’s a fun preseason game. You don’t always get these. Vancero switching to the left hand and putting it up and in. Three-point opportunity coming here for Palo Vancero. Vancero continuing to be aggressive. Not deterred by the poor shooting numbers early on. to take a look at the That’s great recovery by Valon Barlo. There is a fairly Dickinson University there season in the NBA. He’s just 22 years old. Wow. Yeah. They bring him out young nowadays, don’t they? Yeah. Had one of his best games. He was with the Atlanta Hawks last season. I’m sure those of you who were with us in the weeds at the end of the season last year remember he had one of his best games as a Hawk against our Sixers in late March. 13 points, season high, 10 rebounds. And you play game like that, all of a sudden the team that you did it against is like, who’s this guy? What’s his contract when what’s going on? It it happened to me. There were times when I would have this game and those teams remember and when it comes time to look for new additions, they remember who we played well against him. So Barlo undoubtedly left an impression. Spent a year with overtime elite in the G-League back in 2021 22 then signed a two-way with the Spurs after going undrafted. That’s where he started his career and last year Atlanta. Hoping to find a spot here on the two-way is Dominic Barlo. Yeah, I don’t know how much success the Magic you’re going to have with isolating Vancero out on the perimeter. I think it’s just a a read right now as you see Carter doing what he’s able to do though, that medium-range jumper, but Ben Carro going one five. I don’t know if that’s just a wrinkle or something taking a look at. Nice step through by Kennedy Chandler. Kept his pivot foot on the floor. Kept his options open. Bright deflected that one, but Bogner very similar finish on this end that that Chandler had on this end. Want to shed the defender and leave you an opportunity for an open look. Are we playing a game of force? And nobody let us know. You want to fake out the defender, step through, lay it up with your left hand if you could. Off the glass. No give and go, Arlo. Well, he likes to mix it up and be physical. The problem with that is sometimes the physicality comes back on you. Got a piece of him there at the line. Magic shooting two. They’re going to say the foul on Kelly, his third. We’re talking about year six for Tyrese Maxi. And those numbers, Ala, I mean the the scoring numbers up each year. And let’s not forget how under last year. And yet somehow he was still able to thrive, improve, be the lead dog on many a night for the 76er team. of course on that finger tendon injury that ended his season in early March. Chandler blocked by Carter. Gets it back and lays it up and in just unable to connect. Try to leave it for Bane. Bane just couldn’t collect it. And Black tried to leave it for Carter. Maybe a little push from behind by Edwards. Six foul number 11, Justin Edwards, his third. That’s number three on Justin Edwards. You may have noticed Edwards changed his number from last season. He was 19 as a rookie and uh with Jeff Dton Jr. now playing overseas. Picked up Jeff’s number 11. Going to ask Justin why that was. Haven’t heard the story yet, but I I’ll bring that to the season once we get it. Well, and at least he wasn’t in the dilemma the other guys find themselves in where they have to pay for the uniform number. We heard Seth Curry try to offer up money for his brother’s number in Golden State as if that was ever going to happen. And he said, “I don’t even need the money, so don’t offer up any money.” And Seth left frustrated and had to get another number. That’s hilarious. Final 40 seconds of our first half. Magic leading the Sixers by three. [Music] Janlin crosscourt. Edwards lines up the slot triple and drills it. Justin Edwards from downtown. Still has that pretty left-handed release. At 25 points, not just once, twice in his rookie season. Again, started the season with the Blue Coats. Wasn’t expecting to spend that much time with the Sixers. And then Justin became a key piece of the starting lineup as Ben Carro finishes and is fouled. That weak side cut, you’ve got to be aware of it. He comes from weak to strong as he turns that corner. This is the other end of the floor. The good ball movement finding Edwards on that wing. And then this is the last drive by Beno as he turns the corner on Walker. Attacked off the glass. Yeah, a little bit little bit into his path. That’s a that’s another point of emphasis this season that became a point of emphasis last season as well. The straight line drives. You just got to anticipate that cut coming and then get in between you and the ball. You don’t want him to get in between and Ubé nicely done with just 1.6 to play in this first half drawing the foul. So that’s going to be a frustrating moment for Jamal Mosley and the and the man. And again was Mr. Reliable. 20 plus points 15 times. Had those career-high 10 double doubles. [Music] He did a lot of work keeping the Sixers a float last year. Final two seconds.
