It’s almost like the travel became a factor and it really would have helped to have home field advantage on a game like this.
The pitchers and Kerry certainly gave everything they had. Everyone else had that “it is what it is” attitude with their at bats
Did you give everything YOU had?
Im sure Mr. jones was ready to give everything he had as we watched several hitters go 0-6
Now back to our regularly scheduled program of bullying harris and illitch to figure out a way to sign Skubal
Fucking Leo Rivas should not have tied this game. Dude sucks.
I woke up today feeling better about the situation than I thought I would. Yes, there’s things all of us would have done differently had we been at the helm. Would they have worked? Who knows? Let’s look positively on how much magic we got to witness these guys make after that tragic final month of the season. We have a lot to build on, especially if they sign skubal and make a couple moves to shore up the holes. As much as it sucks to realize the tigers didn’t win the game, to me, this feels much better than losing 7-1 in a 9 inning game. We got a legendary performance out of our ace, we got to see a clutch hit and great game from carp and we have limitless potential in melton. There’s a lot to be proud of, I’ll see you all downtown in April!
Now that I’ve slept on it, this was the best game I’ve ever watched, since the Magglio walk off. Not the best as in 2 amazing teams going at it, but the emotional rollercoaster and the adrenaline rushes. The frustrating of begging our team for hits, but ending up pissed and then Skubal striking out 13 and having our pitchers get out of insanely tight jams giving me hope again. Of course I wish we won, but for a loss, this might be the best game I’ve ever seen.
Half our lineup looked absolutely gassed in extras. Just completely worn out.
Sad to see.
We need a couple DAWGS! Guys who have that swagger and big personalities. Need to watch this entire presser, but- Three things for AJ- since Skub agreed to come out after 6 did you think about using Melton to bridge to Vest? Why wasn’t Perez or Jones used as PH at all. What needs to change in the approach at the plate to improve simple sacrifices, runners in scoring positions, etc is it a talent issue, player issue, a coaching strategy or little of both?
Fire Hinch and his loser brand. Didn’t use one pinch hitter.
I think that he is a great leader. He focused on the effort his team gave, which is uplifting and encouraging.

Don’t let anyone go to Cancun until they prove they actually can hit a slider.
I made the last minute decision to fly up from San Diego to attend the game. Electric atmosphere, not a single person left before the 15th, people standing almost the whole game, one of the loudest sporting event crowds I’ve been in live. Losing sucks but absolutely epic epic game. They did a 14th inning stretch and a second “Salmon race”, and at one point the big screen had just some standard text that said “We are out of graphics make some noise”. What a night.
I can all but guarantee you that in a 2-2 series tie with their team up one, having had 14 K’s in the game and at 99 pitches (while still throwing 101 MPH), there is zero chance that a prime Randy Johnson or Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemens or Justin Verlander allow their manager to take the ball away from them and hand the game over to a below average bullpen.
No way. I don’t want to hear “the game is different now.” This wasn’t a normal game. This is with the season on the line and Skubal likely leaving for a huge contract elsewhere. Pitch him 8 or 9 innings. Period. If we lose with the two time Cy Young winner on the mound, tip our hats to the Mariners.
Nobody can hit and nobody cares and hinch is fine with it. And these questions are all jokes.
Nobody asked about the middle of the lineup going 0-23 in an elimination game
I was watching this game with a half dozen friends live and in chat. To a man everyone said “it’s over” when Kahnle took the mound.
Tork and Meadows can take a hike. Both great guys but not good enough. This team is two reliable hitters away from a true run at the title.
Last year’s loss hurt more
🖕
I doubt EVERYONE gave everything they had. Just more “it is what it is” tigers. I hope the gritty tigs come back next year
If they were going to quit, it would have happened in the Wild Card round or after game 3 of the ALDS. They didn’t.
This offense has been an abomination for months. Fans are straight up huffing copium that any move was going to turn the tide.
They overachieved. Accept it.
What I liked best about this was AJ tipping his hat to Seattle right off the bat. I think that shows great respect for everyone involved and awareness of the significance of the game as an absolute ball-breaking classic.
Maybe I missed it, but it was slightly disappointing that DW didn’t return the compliment in his presser. That’s not to say he doesn’t see it the same way – he’s clearly a great manager and seems like a sound person too – but to AJ’s credit, especially given some of the shit he’s taking from Tigers fans right now, it takes some real class to have the presence of mind in the moment and say the right thing, especially when you’re on the losing end of a game like that.
As ESPN stated, ‘An instant classic’
I mean, for that game, sure. But looking back on the season as a whole, the team failed to
achieve the goals they told us that they had set, or to take a meaningful step forward.
AJ claimed the goal was to win the division. Obviously that didn’t happen. They ended up with basically the same record on the year, and went the same distance in the playoffs. I’m not necessarily crusading for people to be fired or claiming the season was a total failure, and I know defending his guys was probably the “right” thing for AJ to do in that moment. But I’m looking forward to when we’re past this “cope with the acute pain” phase and can have an actual honest reckoning of what went so horribly wrong halfway through the season, and why (at least from the outside) we didn’t see a significant attempt to address it or change anything up.
Hinch had this stupid arrogant grin for most of the series. As if he was outclassing Dan and felt so great about himself. I feel bad for the Tigers players, but not his smug ass.
Lol we were awful after the break. This team was brutal to watch. Two historic Septembers back to back for vastly different reasons.
Horrible ending. Offense couldn’t buy a hit it was embarrassing. I don’t wanna hear about players giving everything they had. They didn’t. Heart of lineup had 0 hits across 15 innings and 7 different pitchers to choose from. AJ never pinch hit anyone either. Don’t gimme that shit, they didn’t want it bad enough. They weren’t good enough, simple. Enough of the lip service.
Tigers lost because AJ botched the pitching sequence. Skubal was only at 99 and needed to go one more. Even at that should not have put Holton in to face righty. Then putting Kahne in was waving the red flag, he has given up 26 runs in his last 28 innings. True to form he lost the game right away. Then Meadows, Keith were totally overmatched at the plate.
So proud of these kids and proud to be a Tigers fan!
