TIGERS POSTCAST: ELIMINATED. Detroit Tigers LOSE To Seattle Mariners In 15-Inning Thrilling Game 5
This is the Tigers Post, your instant game reaction for the Detroit Tigers, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. And that is how it all ends. The season comes to an end in epic fashion for one team. 3-2 the final. 15 innings later in the winner take all game number five. The Seattle Mariners advance to the ALCS with the win over the Tigers who are eliminated. Welcome into a live lockdown Tigers postcast. Thanks for staying up late. I am your host Jake Rema. You can follow me on Twitter, Jake_Rma, and this is your postgame destination for another 20 more minutes until we say goodbye for the entire season. Well, let’s go through everything that happened tonight um and break it all down. Carrie Carpenter, the only bat that showed up for the Detroit Tigers. An epic night for TKO and the decision to take him out after six innings. The bullpen blowing the 2-1 lead and eventually into 15 innings of baseball. Still trying to process it all and I’ll need your help for that as well. So, fire up that comment section. And I know there’s a lot of thoughts and a lot of discussion to be had. So, buckle up, dial it in. As always, I’ll have my biggest talking point, our turning point, and our player of the game as the Tigers season comes to an end in Seattle 32 after a marathon 15ining game. So, here we go. And I got to start with a lot. Listen, this might be a show that doesn’t necessarily stick to the format, if you will, and bounces all over the place, but it’s our last show of the year because the Tiger season is now done and we’re still trying to process everything that just happened. And that’s the beauty of an instant reaction show. But I think I got to start with the two people that this loss is not on. This loss is not on Teroo. This loss is not on Carrie Carpenter. So, let’s start with that. An epic performance from Trick Scooble. He set a record for the most strikeouts in by a Tigers pitcher in a postseason winner take all game. 13 of them to be exact. Six innings, two hits, just the one earned run. And Carrie Carpenter reached base uh six different times. Just incredible stuff from Carrie Carpenter. And of course, the two-run homer, the only reason the Tigers were even in that game and the only offense that this team could muster up. Um, Riley Green, Spencer Torqulson, Glaver Torres, a combined 0 for 24. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. And the most important game of the season, Riley Green, Spencer Tolson, and the entire offense with the exception of Carrie Carpenter. absolutely worthless. Glabber Torres 0 for six. Spencer Torlson, Riley Green, and Glabber Torres 0 for 24. You just can’t make it up. Colt Keith, I’m sorry, Colt Keith in there as well. Zack McKinstry had the one hit, one for six. Parker Meadows, um, we’ll bring him up as well. Looks like he he just can’t hit. guys can’t hit and it cost this team. And I was going back and forth with people on Twitter and yes, the offense, listen, make no mistake about the offense is the reason the Tigers season is over. There’s no other way around it. But AJ Hinch, the manager of the Detroit Tigers, deserves a lot of blame after tonight for a number of different reasons, but none bigger than removing TKO and taking him out of the game after 99 pitches in six innings. if he legitimately thinks the best chance to win that game and to hold the Mariners with just the one run and to hold the lead was to bring in a relief pitcher instead of the best pitcher in the world after 99 pitchers. I don’t know what else to say. I I just can’t process that. I can’t accept that you had TK Scooble could go one more inning and whether it was Will Vest going the eighth and the ninth or whatever combination you would point to. And I know you’re going to say Dirk Scubble is not the reason the pitching was good. Of course it was good. The pitching was amazing. The bullpen was amazing. You can’t be mad giving up three runs in 15 innings. But you can be mad having a 2-1 lead with the greatest pitcher on the planet on the mound, having struck out 13 guys in six innings and taking the ball out of his hand and going to your bullpen in the seventh inning. That’s what you can be mad about. And that’s how this season’s defined, like it or not. 162 plus games in the 162 games in the regular season, three games in the wildard series, and then five games in the divisional series. We’re going to remember that one decision, and you can’t convince me any other way. The Tigers are eliminated because AJ Hinch took Scubble out of the game. The Tigers are eliminated for a number of different reasons. Yes, the hitting being terrible. Riley Green being a no-show, Spencer Torqulson a no-show, Glaver Torres a no-show. But at the top of the list, all of that with all of those guys not showing up, you had a 2-1 lead because Carrie Carpenter, well, Jav Bayas gets a double and then Carrie Carpenter hits a two-run homer and you’ve got Ter Scoo on the mound. That’s it. That’s how you can simplify the result of the winner take all game five in Seattle. You had it. You had it. And I think Tiger fans deserve better. But I’ve been saying that the entire year. But now for holding other people responsible, yes, you have the bases loaded. You have so many opportunities. Seattle had so many opportunities. I mean, goodness almighty, you could go through that box score in especially in extra innings, inning after inning after inning. these two teams just taking turns playing, you know, the the set setting the table and unable to come up with the clutch hit. And I mean, I’m sure if I was doing the lockdown Mariners postgame show, I would talk about their inability to to get the clutch hit until they finally broke through in the 15th inning. And did I love seeing Tommy Canley on the mound in the 15th inning? Absolutely not. I don’t know what other option it was. Could Flareity have gone one more inning? Maybe. Um, I think that gives you a better shot to get through that inning than Tommy Canley does. In a way, it’s kind of appropriate that that’s how the season ended with the Tigers running out of pitching and not having any hitting because those were two areas that they refused to address at the trade deadline. Oh, maybe maybe Seaw could have helped us uh in that in that 15th inning. But it’s a major bummer. I’m sad. I’m disappointed. I’m heartbroken. I’m sure someone in the comments will say how cringe it is for how sad I am, and that’s fine. But what a journey. What a ride. Maybe this Tigers team in this front office will find ways to improve this baseball team. We know we’ll have a lot of prospects, a lot of good players coming up because Oh, yeah. They refused to trade any of them at the deadline. 130 plus comments to get to. I’m not going to have a chance to even get to a third of them and I apologize for that. Um, I’ll try and sort through. I think Vincent speaks for a lot of us. Heartbreaking. David Fly agrees with me saying, “F you, AJ. Taking the ball out of Scoo’s hand. Take your analytics, roll it up tight, and shove it up your A. This game is over a nine and I’m booking my flight to Toronto. David, that’s how I feel, man. You had a really good way to put it. Christian’s the guy I was fighting with on Twitter and fighting, having a good discussion. I don’t know how he doesn’t see the fact that if Scooble stays in the game, the Tigers win. Christian says, “Hey Jake, just curious. Just want to know how much blame you put on Hinch for pulling Scooble 1,800 bleeping innings ago and the lifeless offense we just watched.” Yeah, the offense was lifeless, Christian. The offense was terrible. It was putrid. It was pathetic. Two things can be true, dude. I don’t know how you can’t get that through your tiny little brain, Christian. Appreciate you watching, though. Rufus TCAT, he’s a regular putting on a Blue Jays hat for the next week. The Mermaids were horrible and they ain’t getting the pennet. Yeah, I don’t know. I mean, I I don’t have anything against Seattle. A lot of their fans in the comments, they’re cool. It was a great great series. I mean, if you’re just a baseball fan, what you witnessed was pretty entertaining, but obviously it’s a little bit closer to the vest with us as Tiger fans. And it’s it’s just a representation of this season coming up short. This season, unfortunately, for so much good that there was, this season will be remembered by the team that choked away the biggest division lead in the history of the sport and then came up short in the ALDS. came up short and it was a roller coaster ride from Kameri Park being a morg on a playoff game to the epic turnaround and forcing a game five to Carrie Carpenters electric thrilling home run so clutch to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead to yanking Scubble out after six innings to both teams having tons of chances from the 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th and into the 15th before Seattle finally broke through. Thomas Rotandi upset with Riley Green, Spencer Torqulson, Colt Keith, Glaver Torres combined 0 for 24. That’s exactly it. And I don’t know what the future holds for this Tigers team. I really don’t. Because in one hand you think the future of this team is in the minor leagues in the prospects the Max Clarks McGongle everybody else and we all know that but at the same time putting your hope in that it just feels so empty and it’s probably because probably because this game just ended and everything feels lifeless and hopeless because that’s what sports do to you. But just a brutal, brutal conclusion to this one that felt fueled by poor managerial decisions by AJ Hinch. Thanks so much for tuning in. I appreciate every single one that tuned in all season long. Let’s take a short break. And one final time, our biggest talking point, turning point player of the game is next on a live locked on Tigers postcast. When this thing ends, we’re gonna go ahead and I’ll go ahead and read all of them. But AJ Hinch also, in addition to the unforgivable mistake and sin of taking Terubel out after six innings, he also didn’t go to anyone on the bench. I mean, it’s just the same guys going up to the plate and getting out at bat after at bat after at bat. Wel Perez just sitting on the bench, rotting away. Jamai Jones sitting on the bench rotting away. I mean, who is AJ Hinch? Who was he saving them for? I think the best tweet I saw all night is, “Good thing is going to be rested and ready to go for spring training because we’re taking him out after 99 pitches.” I mean, AJ Hinch all season long just Oh, I use so many different lineups. Chaos 15 in game. No lineup changes, no movements. Just trot the same guys out there over and over again. Ride with who we came with. Sure. Strike out. Strike out. Strike out. Spencer Torqulson 0 for six. Riley Green 0 for six. Colt Keith 0 for five. Labor Torres 0 for six. And of course, it wouldn’t be a show if I didn’t express my disdain for Scott Harris. But don’t worry, Eerie Seaw Wolves, West West Michigan White Caps, Toledo Mudhens, Lakeland Flying Tigers. Look out. We got the best minor league teams, but the Tigers are going home. So, this is our last locked on Tigers postcast, which is really sad. Make sure you check out the daily show with Scott Bentley. And seriously, the discussion, the discourse, the arguments, the laughs, it’s been a heck of a ride. Year number two of doing Locked on Tigers postgame shows. I hope they don’t cancel them. We’ll keep doing the Locked On Lions squad show. Make sure you check that out. But the Locked On Tigers post come to an end. just as the Tiger season comes to an end. And the most depressing part, yeah, how much longer will Terrick Scubble be a Tiger? I don’t know. Love to hop on some of the uh daily shows with Scott Bentley. Maybe sometime I’ll hit him up and say, “Hey, have me on your show. I’d love to talk more Tigers because I’m just watching that clock go.” And I know that my time as the lockdown Tigers postgame host is coming to an end. Just as the Tigers season came to an end, the opportunities were out there to be had for both teams really. I mean, the baseball gods were turning over in their graves watching the last couple of those innings. Let’s be honest. But appreciate everybody’s comments coming in here. Shout out to my guy DJ. DJ the bucker right here. You demand, Jake. No, you demand. Go Scots by the way as well. Super Morty man says, “What a season. They blew it for themselves tonight.” They did. But I also I I should have said this at the beginning. The players gave it everything they had. It was an epic a game of epic proportions. There’s no doubt about that. A winner take all game five 15 innings. Absolutely epic. But they just came up short. And I wish AJ Hench wouldn’t have taken out Terk Scooel. All right, it is late. It is really late. It’s 1:40 in the Eastern time zone. I’ll be on Locked on Lions Sunday night. Sunday Night Football postgame show on the Locked On Lions channel. No Locked On Wolverines for me this weekend. Got a wedding, not mine, but a wedding to attend. lot of college football tomorrow. If you’re a college football fan, I’m on Fan University and here in Dallas and we’ll just be spectators watching playoff baseball, the Mariners and Blue Jays. Game one, Sunday night, 7 o’clock on Fox. Appreciate you guys. Shout out to the real ones, the Everydayers, R1, VJ4. Thanks for a great year, Jake. You are awesome. You guys are awesome. Couldn’t do the show without you guys. and very seriously talked to my lockdown boss today. Couldn’t be happier with the product of the MLB postgame show with the lockdown Tigers post guests. And that’s that’s I I wouldn’t be blowing smoke because they don’t say that about every show. So, even though the season comes to an end tonight, 2025, man, the highs and lows, the highs and lows, lots to be lots to be excited about, some things to be optimistic about because like I said, we still got a lot of young upand cominging talent. I can’t wait for opening day already. All right, have a good night. Love you guys. Tigers lose season over.

Trade Skubal. He deserves better
Did everyone who says Skubal can’t pitch more than 7 innings forget the Maddux game on May25? It was against Cleveland and it only took 94 pitches for the complete game.
If you’re more pissed off about Skubal not throwing 10-20 more pitches than the bats not showing up for 15 innings, you are outside your mind.
Great game by Skubal, but man, the heart of the lineup was broken asf. 3-6 hitters not one hit.
M's fans should be thanking Hintch. Taking Skubel out gave them them the win. That's my opinion n u can't change it
One of the best games in postseason history. What a battle!
Cleveland Guardians fan here. We should have defeated you in round one so this outcome isn't unexpected. Next season the Guards will be back on top. We are a much younger team and have a non-cheating manager. 🙂.
The Tigers strike out way too much. Why doesn't anyone tell them to choke up on the bat with two strikes. That's basic fundamental baseball.
This game really drove home the weaknesses of the ballclub. You have to fix the platoon at short and third. You need a right-handed power bat. Sign a starting pitcher that is healthy and not contemplating retirement. Make a trade or three for some bullpen arms. If you're going to have projects for pitching talent, take off the rose-colored glasses and realize not everybody is going to pan out.
the world series will be LA vs BJ, Canada vs America, drake vs Kendrick, blue vs blue.
Jorge Polanco killed the Tigers. Plain and simple.
The Tigers ended exactly where I thought they would end. They were lucky to beat Cleveland first of all for the season. They never had a centerfielder. They never had a third baseman. They never had really a short stop in the second half. They had exactly a first baseman that never hits in the clutch. Riley Green is a great player, but he strikes out way too much. His uppercut swinging is something that needs to be corrected. The tigers really need to fire their hitting coaches in higher new ones. I’m disappointed that the management and the owner didn’t do anything but when you look at the tigers on paper, they exceeded farther than what they should’ve. They had one and a half pictures and one and a half relievers for basically the whole season they lost Olson they lost Jobe that hurt, but they did nothing to show up the bullpen even with their strike out hacking lineup well as they say wait till next year, but the history of this new owner suggest that they will not spend big money happy bias his contract will be the last big contract you’ll see anyways go tigers
Bats have been silent when Star pitcher pitches 🥴⚾️
Tigers should think about keeping AJ around? His line ups are questionable 🤷🏻♂️
Disgusting. Our manager let us down. Everybody but Carpenter in the lineup let us down by taking turns sh*ting the bed. Our "big guns" Tork and Greene couldn't have had worse at bats if they tried. Idiotic approaches up and down the lineup. Changes really need to be made in the off-season. AJ not using the bench and watching Colt Keith have terrible at bat after a terrible at bat is mind-boggling.
Fire Scott Harris. No excuses to have the pitching the Tigers do and for the historical first half of the season and for Harris not to go get some bats at the deadline.
I would have left Skubel out there for the 7th
Skubal is soft. He pitches 6 innings and acts like HE’s already won . AJ loser pulls him, even though he threw a 101 mph pitch in 6th. He could have gone 8 and the game would be over –
I won’t lie how feared I was going into this game having to face skubal AGAIN! But my hat goes off to him he is a fucking ace! Even going into extra innings made me more of a wreck but you tigers have my respect and I would’ve been pulling for you had you made it to the next round over Seattle. Thank you for an incredible game and again Skubal you’re a nightmare of a pitcher hinch never should’ve pulled you but I was so happy when he did. Good game and good series Detroit 🤝🏻
Skubal should have pitched the whole game 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hinch pulled Skubal too early, he pulled Melton too early and putting Kahnle in is criminal. Shouldn't have even been on the post season roster.
This was one hell of a game… I hope Mariners win their first championship and shock the world
Helluva series
Harris’ failure to add anything significant at the deadline is the biggest reason they’re not going any further. He didn’t have the balls to pull the trigger on any decent trades.
15 innings and Hinch with a bunch O fors in the lineup does not pinch hit once.
Same with Mariners taking out Kirby at 66 pitches. These managers live and die by what’s on a sheet of paper instead of going with their eyeballs. SMH
Skubal,Dingle, Carpenter,Melton, Vest, Olson and maybe Baez the only players worth keeping. Hinch the first to go!!
Obviously just throw sliders to Detroit.
Not a surprise at all. The offense only shows up every 10 games or so. They could have easily won this game early on with Kirby who has a 4+ ERA. Once again, way too many left on base and no clutch hitting.
The Detroit Tigers fans seem to forget Skubal has a large say wether he continued to pitch.
Dislike the Seahawks so no way was i rooting for the Mariners as they share fans
Tigers had a great season, can't wait for next season
Today's young workers do not mind working late or working overtime. Skubal was incredible and Flatauherty was solid. When those guys were gone, the M's scored right away.
eugenio having some sick locks is the main thing i took out of this series
Hinch said in the postgame that before the 6th, Skubal told him that was his last inning. I wish he could have gone one more, but if your guy tells your he's done you have to believe him
AJ is a great guy. But he changes pitchers after the innings not when the pitcher is struggling during the inning. That's something hard to agree with.
The gall of opposing fans to instantly go into a losing team’s locked on postcast and give a bunch of condescending “You did a great job though boys!!” comments like you actually give a shit at all lmaoo
The Mariners went 51-30 at home, while the Tiger went 44-43 on the road. And Seattle was slightly better in one-run games. Take that for whatever it's worth.
ho hum since 1984
Jack Morris averaged around 100 pitches per game during his career, but this can vary based on the game situation and his performance. He was known for completing many games, often exceeding 120 pitches in a start. – Wikipedia….
I don't think anyone would confuse Skubal with Morris who once pitched 10 shutout innings in game 7 of the W.S. to win the championship for the Twins.
farm club hitters up and down the roster.
Hinch is a MORON! Total collapse the 2nd half of the season. Anyone who follows the Tigers…knew that the second Krap Kahnle got on the mound…the season was over. This Klod has cost Detroit game after game after game since the All Star game…yet moron Hinch put this loser in over and over and over….until the season was over. Hurter and Holton suck too.
Sounded like Skobul told him he was done!
Mariners not having Woo was a huge deal in this series! Imagine if Skubol was out for Detroit!
As a mariners fan the tigers gave us all they could handle our offense is going to have to play a lot better if we want to keep up with toronto
Tarik Skubal’s innings split probably led to AJ’s decision to pull him after 6 innings.
According to Baseball Savant, Tarik’s innings split is as follows:
1st inning ERA = 1.45
2rd = 3.19
3rd = 0.87
4th = 1.19
5th = 3.64
6th = 1.80
7th = 4.91
Tarik falls off after 6 innings. That is what his season numbers show. You can’t argue with the numbers till you are red in the face.
You are terrible at hosting. Stop complaining so much dude
Skubal coming out of the game didn’t cause the loss. The lack of clutch hitting did.
Kerry Carpenter and Skubal carried the team.
The defense played well and the bullpen did too.
It’s hard to win with Greene, Torkelson and Colt Keith contributing nothing on offense.
Tork saved some runs on defense, hit at times, and is a pretty solid 1b.
Riley Greene needs to change his swing mechanics.
That extreme uppercut swing is useless against fastballs up in the zone.
Maybe pinch hitting for a few of the non hitters might have changed something, but too late now.
