BREAKING: Quentin Grimes FINALLY Signs With The Sixers… But Now Things Get VERY Interesting!

Breaking news. Quinton Grimes has finally signed his one-year qualifying offer just a day before the preseason. I really don’t know what the endgame was for Quinton Grimes. I mean, I told you for the last month and a half that this was going to happen. Grimes looks at the second half last year and he wants to get paid big dollars based on how he played. But the Sixers held all the leverage in this situation. No other teams had cap space to spend and nobody was going above this number. We thought originally the Sixers might pay him 15 to 20 million a year. But why do that when you can settle at 8.7 million? And now the tricky part is Grimes comes back with a no trade clause. He’s going to have to play his best to try to go out next off season and get more money elsewhere. And maybe this will create some frustrations with Philly. And now the Sixers are going to have to evaluate this guard room because they have a plethora of young guards and Grimes has to fit into that mix and he’s going to try to make himself a bag. So honestly, the hold out never made sense and Grimes finally realized that he had no other moves left. I probably would have took three or four years of more guaranteed money, but oh well. Now it’s time to hoop.

  1. The sixers front office has a 40+ year history of ineptness. This is incontrovertible truth. I respectfully question how anyone can be taken in by their "modis operandi", at this point. It's a vicious cycle that is tired, predictable and corny. To put it in context, the last time they won the championship, I had just turned 20. I am now 62…let that set in..Im no longer interested in waiting for things to (hopefully) develop. Been there done that ad nauseum.

  2. With the number of guards we have, Grimes won’t get as much playing time as a $20 million-a-year player like Josh Giddey. I really like Grimes’ game and size, so hopefully, we can trade one of our other guards for a frontcourt player like Kamara from Portland or see if Houston has anyone that's useful for us.

  3. It made sense for a player(no matter who) to sign the qualifying offer, since this year only 2 team had big cap space, while next year 10 teams will have plenty cap space. It's not a gamble, he got lucky to be an unrestricted free agent when he did.

  4. Everyone has to remember, the only reason Grimes is on the team is because the Sixers wanted to get off of Caleb Martin's contract. The Sixers are crowded at the guard position so they didn't really need him, even though he had a good last quarter of the season. The Sixers are trying to rebuild while waiting for Embiid's and PG's contracts to end…

  5. I like the pfs we picked up. Both athletic guys. But we should've kept yabu and grimes was allowed to let it fly last year bcuz we were losing on purpose. He's not worth 20 to 25. He's more like 10 to 15 million a year. Which is VERY good money

  6. The problem is that his market value is close to double the qualifying offer and if they would have been willing to go into the cap, we could have had that trade chip for this season. Now we have nothing but a guy with an attitude for a year and he'll walk next summer

  7. I’m over morey and his top heavy aging rosters. He’s squeezing all the good role players $$ that make a good team and paying injury prone embiid and PG 100 million dollars. Doesn’t make any sense. In today’s league you need depth and availability. We have no assets or trade chips outside of Drummond or oubre. Last season it was Caleb Martin and KJ martin. They just keep rotating guys with grimes now being another rental while most of the $$ goes to 3 players. And a lot of this falls on Josh Harris who keeps ducking the luxury tax.

  8. People don't understand that we cannot sign any good role players in the next two years. We've lost 2 good role olayers this offeseason, Yabu gone, Grimes a matter of time
