Reacting to Matthew Schaefer’s FIRST NHL Game | New York Islanders News

Jonathan Duan gets the Islanders on the board and Matthew Schaefer picks up his first career point with the assist here. Yeah, watch him how he got all the way deep on the rush that he was on the the red line, the goal line, and still makes this play happen on the other side of the ice. And there was a play before this, too, where he takes the puck all the way in, makes a great play, it doesn’t kind of come off, and then comes back and does this just fantastic stuff, right? like and Jonathan had devo the goal doing the goal scoring the goal too like we didn’t mean in our preview show we’re like I don’t think he’s going to score too many and here he is doing the thing he’s on pace for 82 goals now look at that we’re a bunch of do my hot take from the beginning of the season let’s go baby it’s it’s on you’re on the money right now but yeah Jonathan Duan again he scores ties up the game really nice play from Matthew Schaefer too um and and showed some awareness miss too, right? Like they were talking about that on on the replay of how Matthew Schaefer played it and like it’s it’s a vet move for a guy who’s playing in his first NHL game here. But um these are ifs. So like I said, what did you make of Chief for his NHL debut? I thought he was really good. Um he was good at the end. He was throwing pucks at the net. I thought that he he seems very very comfortable, very confident out there. So I’m very pleased with him. So he says, “I thought he was really good. He was good at the end. He was throwing pucks at the net. He seems very comfortable, very confident. I was pleased with him.” Yeah. And I think that’s the same thing that we all have, right? We all kind of come away with the same takeaway there with with Schaefer’s game. Definitely. Yes. Yeah. So, uh, perfect. There’s no no real complaints there from from Matthew Schaefer in any way, shape, or form. Didn’t do anything silly. Didn’t get starruck playing against Sid. So, cuz we’ve seen other players on this team get star struck when they play against big names. Thank you. Um, yeah. So, good to see game one is done. Let’s keep it going,

Matt and Mitch share their thoughts on Matthew Schaefer’s first NHL action with the New York Islanders

  1. Drouin was horrible. He played like a hack much of the game. That cross check to the face came out of nowhere and was %100 intentional. He should be suspended.

Mayfield played like a rookie. Get Schaefer away from him. Put him with a D-man who will make him better, like Pelech.

Roy's player management for the last 4 minutes was mystifying. That bunch was exhausted, and it showed when they started fumbling pucks. Roy stuck with them. SMH

Then he pulls the goalie and sends out…….Lee. I like Lee, but we needed a shooter / playmaker in that situation.

Watching Barzal, with skating room, passing up shooting opportunities and dumping off to Mayfield and Tony was stupefying.

Holmstrom once again showed he is a top line forward on this team. Heineman, who played well, should be with Pageau for now.

Both goalies made and handful of A+ saves. If not for that, this would have been a 9 – 7 Pens win.

If the Isles are playing like this come December, Roy will be on the clock, IMO

  2. Every time i see MS play, im more impressed. At first i was withholding my enthusiasm for the kid, but now i feel like it’s impossible to be OVERenthusiastic about him! He’s surpassed my hopes and expectations for his performance in literally every possible way. The sky is the limit for this kid. We truly were blessed with a gem.
