Craig Berube | Post Game @ Detroit Red Wings | October 11, 2025

Chief, on a night like tonight, what stands out for you the most as to where it went wrong? Yeah, second period. I thought we started off fine in the second, but then, you know, just we didn’t close anything off and in in our zone, uh spent too much time in our zone. They eventually capitalized and we had tired we just got we tired ourselves up because we three/ quarter iced ourselves in the second period that cost us the hockey game with those back doors. I assume too like that’s a result of what you’re saying. Yeah, that’s a result. But, you know, saying that we got to take care of those seams. We know that they like them and we didn’t do a good enough job there either. But, uh, you know, for me that that’s a difference in the hockey game right there. Is there an update on Steve? Uh, not right now. We’ll have to evaluate him tomorrow. And your goalender was right. Yeah, he was good. Very good. um you know um so you know until we want to value importance of second periods and how you need to play them that’s what that’s what can happen line was running pretty and then that injury happens how much they are kind of um I don’t know I mean we shuffling around I you know I used different guys there and they ended up getting another goal with William Knander with them so um you know but you know third period I thought we came out and you you know, we were in the game. Took a we took we took a penalty there that we was unnecessary. Um, you know, we didn’t need to do that either, but, you know, we had a good PP going and took a penalty and um, you know, we we beat ourselves in my opinion. Not that Detroit didn’t they played well. I but uh, you know, we were right there with them. Got the lead and um, you know, we came out in the second and didn’t u play the way we should have played. You as to shoot more. Is that as assertive? He’s been shooting. He’s I thought he had a good game. You know, shot the puck pretty direct, you know, scored a nice goal, had a chance to put another one in, missing that, but um you know, I thought he had a good game. In the second period, is a long change hurdle for you? Well, well, no. I mean, that’s part of hockey, right? It’s in it’s all the time. But if you don’t, you know, exit your zone and and get pucks into the other zone with getting fresh people out there, it’s hard. So I think that one shift Carlo might have spent three minutes out there in a shift. So like just stuff like that. Um we got to work a lot harder in second periods of um managing the game, you know, exiting our zone. You know, we we had the puck uh twice on two goals on our tape and guys were we’re just standing watching the guy instead of working to get out of your zone. That’s just that’s really the game for me.

  1. Craig, you are the coach. The 2nd periods were brutal last year, the first 2 this year were bad as well. You are the coach, fix this shit. The system is looking terrible, constantly getting outshot, out attempted and out possessed. Fix it.

  2. Pathetic team effort in both games 1 & 2. Dominated and hemmed in shift after shift especially the top line. Matthews looks disinterested and no passion, doesn’t seem to be the game changer he can be. Go Jays Go at least one team has Balls.😅

  3. Look it will be bad next . Why shorten pre season is why . Anyways not concerned there 80 games left and you can’t win them all. Let’s faces red wings got yelled at for their performance against the Canadians their game one.

  4. I never knew Nylander was a healthy scratch for this game. I shouldn’t keep adding him to my parlays so he would always be the one FVCK up who loses it all for me 🤬 Can anybody lmk how he got injured?

  5. Typical Toronto, losing to worse teams because they dont work hard enough. Yes it’s only second game but come on, stop being the losers you are. Work and hit , pretty simple
