The Tigers Season Just Ended So Tragically Their Announcer Swore Multiple Times On Air
We as baseball fans just witnessed one of the greatest pitching performances in MLB history for two teams simultaneously as for nearly 15 full innings. The Tigers and Mariners would see time and time again their staffs bend but not break trading highwire act escapes like punches in a boxing match. But alas, someone had to come away with the victory and it would indeed end up being Seattle walking off Detroit over 5 hours after first pitch. This was of course a draining experience for those in the opposing side. won. So much so that their radio broadcast actually ended up swearing on a hot mic immediately after. We get tired. this game recap. Perhaps a fitting end to what was an incredibly frustrating game to lose. Despite the final score, things would begin pretty well offensively for the Mariners as in the bottom of the second, Josh Naylor would line a double down the left field line on a check swing. Certainly an impressive feat considering it was on a triple-digit fast ball out of the zone before then almost immediately stealing third base in a fashion he’s done pretty much the entire season. He might be one of the slowest players in baseball, but he’s turned himself into one of the best pure base Steelers. And this extra 90 ft would prove crucial as Mitch Garver would then drive a fly ball to center field soon after, staking Seattle to a one- nothing cushion. And from here, nothing, and I really can’t emphasize how much nothing would happen until the top of the six, with the only real notable thing occurring offensively being in a negative capacity for the Mariners, who struck out seven times in a row versus Tigers ace lefty Trick Scooball, which actually broke a playoff record set earlier this very postseason by Trey Ya Savage. In the top of the sixth, Javier Bayas would lead off with a first pitch double to center field. A hustling play punctuated by an excellent slide around a tag. This chased George Kirby from the game, bringing lefty Gabe Spear in to face Carrie Carpenter, the only Tiger with a hit to this point besides Bayz. And he would deliver, crushing a center cut fast ball 411 ft to center field, giving his team the lead with one swing at the bat. Scoo would then hop right back on the mound and punch out two more, ending his night with 13 strikeouts in six innings of one-run baseball, making him the only pitcher in Major League history with multiple 13 strikeout games in one postseason. And man, you could tell Seattle was happy that he was out as they would score their very next time at bat in the bottom of the seventh with birthday boy Leo Reebas. He of just 39 regular season hits in his career, knocking an RBI single with two outs. And from here for the next three innings, nothing much would come to pass in terms of threats with only two guys reaching one time in the eighth, which the Tigers couldn’t do anything with. This takes us to the bottom of the tenth when rookie Troy Melton pulled off the first high wire act of the night, giving up a leadoff double to Victor Robless down the right field line on his very first pitch. But like I said, the motif of extra innings was bend but don’t break. A pop out, strike out, and ground out with the Cal Raleigh intentional walk mixed in there resulted in Seattle coming away empty-handed. And for a moment, it looked like the Tigers might be able to take this momentum and do something with it as Carrie Carpenter, who had just a monster game in this one. Grounded a leadoff single into center field before going to second on the first pass ball by catcher Raleigh all season. But just like the M’s, nothing would end up coming of this after a line out, fly out, and strike out. The Tigers would do the exact same thing in the 12th, this time with two guys on and nobody out. as after a Parker Meadows bunt moved both runners up, it was Javier Bay’s turn to ground into a fieldielder’s choice, then Glabber Torres’s to fly to shallow right. And while certainly the offense was embarrassing throughout, I’m seeing a ton of people want to clown on the Tigers right now for their performance in this one, but you absolutely cannot deny that they certainly had some clutch pitching as well as Kater Montero in his second inning of work got into a two guys on no out jam himself and managed to get out of it with a double play. and Jack Flity, a starter on in relief because they’d gotten so deep into the ball game, did the same thing in the next inning after walking his first two batters. Detroit’s last real opportunity in this one would come in the 14th when Dylan Dingler doubled on the left field line before being stranded via strikeout and pop out. Tigers back stop would then add to his highlight reel with a ridiculously good throw in the bottom of that inning, a missile to second base to nab Victor Rob attempting to steal. 14 innings in, that’s just a ridiculous play. This takes us to our final frame, the 15th, when after the Tigers topped the order went down with the whimper, Seattle stormed out yet again, getting two runners on with nobody out after a single and hit by pitch. A line out from rally would push both runners up after a throwing error by Parker Meadows, influencing AJ Hinch to walk Julio Rodriguez. This set the stage perfectly for game two hero Jorge Palano to come through with a walk-off single. A missile shot through the right side at 110 mph, sending Seattle to their first ALCS since 2001. This brings us to the moment I referenced in the intro as not too long after the game officially ended, Dan Dickerson, the Tigers longtime radio playby-play guy, was caught on a hot mic saying this. Dan and I will be back to talk about it after this on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network. [Music] And fragile. I don’t have to do a glove. this game recap. Oh, I’m sorry. Was that out loud? 3 2 1. I think this perfectly captured the mood of every Tigers fan watching from around the country. A long, fruitless game that ended in pretty much the most heartbreaking way possible. And believe me, as somebody who personally has gotten back into the Detroit fandom over the last couple months, as I originally hail from Michigan, I felt this deeply, especially because I, lucky enough, actually was there. Regardless, congratulations to the Mariners who absolutely earned their shot at playing for the chance to go to their first World Series in franchise history and potentially win the whole damn thing. All right, everybody. If you made it this far, I appreciate you watching. And if you did, consider checking out any of these other videos on your screen right now for other content just like this. “F*ck this game recap”….dude is a legend.
NAYLOR
😂😂😂Baseball in America gets very serious in October
I hate "over-coaching". Potentially the last game of season and Skubal was dominating…..but nope….he's at 100 pitches so have to take him out. Tigers should've rode their ace until Mariners proved they could hit him. Instead, over-coaching let the Mariners tie the game and eventually win it. Good thing they took Skubal out after 100 pitches…now he's ready to pitch again….next season.
1 hit, we only had 1 Goddamn hit
Nobody's listening anyway..
Classic Uecker
As a mariners fan, I hope he doesn't get reprimanded for this.
Had to sit and listen to the stupid FS1 guys cheering for the tigers the whole series. Absolutely loved hearing them deflated at the end as SEA was celebrating their walk off.
I’m a die-hard SF Giants’ fan… and this is COMPLETELY understandable. I’m shocked that wasn’t his actual call when the ball left the infield. Carry on.
@1m39 Gabe Spier like /spire/ Good game.
Can't imagine announcing games for this team anymore I couldn't do it tigers are frauds
He is cheer leader. Recites the same stats over and over, I am a huge tiger fan however, but I put the Mariners call on Friday.
Never hated a season so much
He didn’t do anything wrong. That’s called passion. He wants his team to win
It doesn't matter how much time goes by I'm still the only player in town
From a lifelong Mariners fan, the sentiment is totally understandable. He better not get any reprimand for that, but Tigers fans hold your heads high as that was the toughest series I've seen the Mariners play. Good job all around.
When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You could tell both teams wanted this. Nothing but respect for Dan.
By the time Dickerson said that, most Tiger fans had probably turned off their TVs/radios. I certainly did that after my Phillies went down to LAD.
How da fuq naylor hit that
The lack of bunting makes me think the Jays are going to outmanage Seattle all day long throughout the ALCS. XD LETS GO BLUE JAYS.
I'm happy that Skubal broke a strikeout record (even though it was against the Mariners). He has my respect. I may not like playing him but that's just because he's so good.
I was there. The feeling was mutual. Long. Drawn out. The Tigers had us on the ropes several times.
As the hometown crowd, I have to say the momentum changed as soon as Humpy won the salmon race. Thanks for memories. Much respect to the Tigers who fought hard.
I was so pissed when Hinch took Skubal out…13 K’s and last pitch was 101….Screw pinch count, one run leader and it’s win or go home….send Skubal out and to hell with it.
Too bad guys like ARod thought the teams don't measure up to the BlueJays, who just beat his Yankee's?
Rips a bassy fart “f**k this game recap” 😂
It was the only thing to be said, Cheers to him!
Trust me, we forgive Dan!
TIGERS tanked miserably in the 2nd half of the season and should NOT have even got into the playoffs. I've heard the Tigers play by play on Sirus XM and they are a couple of biased, WHINNY-ASS Cry babies who shouldn't even have jobs. Tigers and THEIR announcers DESERVED TO LOSE and got what they deserved… Lions are TOUGH though.
The only valid swearing being made by any announcer should be to state how fucking great the game was, ANYTHING ELSE is stupid entitlement since BOTH teams! gave their best to win the game and will be considered one of the best baseball games ever. All those players gave their all and that "dude" couldn't even make a recap… pathetic entitlement, that what really is and anyone who defends him.
Dan better not even get the slightest bit of criticism over this….This is exactly how all Tigers fans felt anyway!
I'm an Ms fan from Seattle and I hope we make it to are first world series appearance. Blue Jays are a huge threat so we will see.
I sat through an extra inning night game in Houston one time when the Astros walked in the winning run with the bases loaded. I said “F this game!” 😂
As soon as he waddled that stupid mullet up to the mound' I knew it was game!
Phillies fans are like hold my YUENGLING.
Detroit tigers are class act.👏👏👏
From a long time Mariners fan, when they sucked.
0:40 I don’t think it was a “check swing”. He gets very defensive of two strike counts and try’s to make contact with everything. I think he was just trying to spoil the pitch foul and got lucky
You do such a great job on these baseball recaps. Really appreciate your channel.
I love it! Niehuas used to show anger too…
Not like Rick Rizz, who’s still riding his coattails, and could make any tragedy sound great.
“Say friends”…”he’s some kinda strong”…
Give it a rest Rizz, you like the pitch count, cause you want to get to the bar ya boozehound.
They should be mad…they hired a cheater, who has cursed their team.
Talk to ownership, embarrassing as F.
