Jaguars over Chiefs AFTERMATH 👉 Trevor Lawrence showed up & concerns about KC’s offense | NFL Live
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs taking on Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Third quarter, Jags trail 14 to7. Lawrence launches a pass to Travis Hunter. What a catch. Ridiculous job by Travis Hunter of just tracking the football. That was like that athleticism, that ball skill, the instincts that we often talk about with athletes. That’s a very special, very difficult catch. And how about Lawrence here? It felt like Spags didn’t have a great plan for the running ability of Trevor Lawrence in this game. Yeah, really good job. A couple times he saw scenes and did not hesitate. Put his back foot on the ground and took off. And the game is tied. Late third quarter. Mahomes throws an interception. Devin Lloyd runs it back for the pick six. He had two interceptions the week before. Mina. Yeah. Didn’t anticipate him dropping out of that pressure. Look. His coverage instincts this year have been excellent. Arguably the most improved player in the NFL. Wow. He got a little tired there at the end. I don’t blame him. 100 yards kept going. All right. Fourth quarter. Same score. Jags have the ball again. Lawrence. This time he throws an interception to McDuffy. Yeah, this is a huge point of the game. You know, start of the fourth quarter and you’re up by a touchdown. This should have been pass interference. Fortunately for the Jags, it doesn’t hurt them because the Chiefs immediately turn it into a tie football game. So, it’s tied 21-21 under two minutes to play. Chiefs on the 2-yd line. Mahomes sends it deep down the sideline to Hollywood Brown. And that’s a gain of 20 yards. Spectacular catch. Yeah, we saw a couple plus plus plus plays by Patrick Mahomes last night and the Hollywood Brown had a couple moments on the sidelines that were good and then Kareem Hunt punches it in. They take the lead. Yeah. So now Trevor Lawrence, he’s got to make something happen right here. A minute left to play. Lawrence to Brian Thomas Jr. who hadn’t been super involved in this offense and that play mattered big time. One of the best throws of Trevor Lawrence’s career right there. So impressive and such a big moment. And then Trevor Lawrence right there. Ooh, it seems like an interception to Brian Cook. The entire stadium lost its breath, but ends up being called for pass interference. And then this is the craziest play you’re going to see in quite some time. Lawrence gets stepped on, he falls down, he gets back up again. It didn’t matter. He He said that was just how they drew it up kind of, but not really. Look, there had that been stepped on many of times before. Honestly, that’s a great play by Trevor. Wait, what were you thinking watching this? Did you think this had any chance No, I thought I was like, “Oh my gosh, it’s going to be awful ending.” Oh, I’m calling it D with me after the game. Do Oh, just panic. Sheer panic on the ground trying to We didn’t have any timeouts. Got stepped on coming out and I was like, I got to get up and I was just going to throw it out of bounds to stop the clock. And then there was really no one around me. So went and made a play. What we do is truly the most pretty thing in the world. But guess what, man? Guess what? Guess what? Winning feels good. So proud of the way you compete and I’m so proud to be your coach. Yes, sir. So proud to be your coach. Great job, Trevor Lawrence. Get us a break. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. 26. Yeah, he turned 26. Trevor said he had a lot of cake waiting for him at home. Super young. That was it’s a good reminder, right? It feels like he’s been in the league for a long time and and he has in some ways. But 4-1, the Jaguars off to their best start since 2007. They’ve been doing their work in the trenches. Jacksonville ranks third in pass blocking, second in run blocking this season. And their plus eight turnover differential leads the NFL. Last season, the Jags were minus 15 in turnover differential, fourth wor fourth worst in the league. It was interesting, too. They did not have their starting center for a large majority of the game. Robert Hany went down and put the quarterback under center, run the football, have a little play action, a little balance through offense goes a long way. What did you see from Trevor Lawrence specifically last night? Honest question, when was the last time the Jaguars won a football game because of Trevor Lawrence because of his performance? 2023. A while. Last night was the first time in a long time I feel like he played with edge. He played with attitude. He played with confidence and moxy. I go back to that that interaction with him and Liam Cohen on the sideline in the Bengals game and what was it and whatnot and for feels years now we’ve been begging begging Trevor Lawrence don’t be so robotic like you’re a freak athlete take off with your legs and be impactful to the game that’s the story of the game I think it’s the story of the moment last night heading for the rest of the season that this was the first time he played with attitude and edge and you saw it with his decision-m and him taking off with his legs And then that leads to that final drive. Mina says it. This is the throw of his career. I agree. Ball’s on the left hat. You’re giving Brian Thomas Jr. all the space. Now he sees that safety rotate. The yellow safety. Once he turns his back, that ball’s going to BTJ. Now watch him slow play it at the line. You’re just trying to slow play, slow play, burst. And the burst matters because it gives him an opportunity to save space to the sideline for that throw. Best throw of Trevor Lawrence’s career. Biggest moment. Now this one’s interesting because it’s a big completion to get him closer. Travis Hunter goes in motion. No one runs with him. So naturally as a quarterback you think you’re in zone or they’re in zone as a defense. Catches the snap and he sees the safety rotate the middle field. Okay, it’s one high. Then he works to his left and in one hitch realizes it’s man. Brian Thomas Jr.’s getting pinned low. You’ve got leverage to Demi Brown on the outside and it’s another perfect throw. Like that. That’s the thing that was so impressive last night was I saw this guy stare across the sideline to the best player in the world and be like, I can play with you. Yeah. And and and finally do it. And then the throws to win it were it’s why he went number one. But I don’t we haven’t seen that version of Trevor Lawrence. I’m glad you included the Brown throw. We talk the Thomas Junior throw has correctly gotten a lot of attention, but that throw was really impressive. Like that was really good coverage on him too and it took me back to you asked when was the last time they were winning games because of Trevor Lawrence. I think back to the season when they went to the playoffs where he was really playing out of his mind and that throw the out was probably the best tool in his arsenal that season. He was nine for nine on outbreakers. It’s something that Brian Thomas Jr. is excellent at. Um, and it was crucial because going into this game, I thought they’re going to run the ball well. The Chiefs sold out to stop the run on a lot of occasions and said Trevor beat us throwing outside the numbers and he did. I think that’s really encouraging. I’d like to see more downfield targets of Travis Hunter because you saw him reward him for the ball skills. The ball skills are unbelievable. Even if the route running’s not there, I don’t care. His willingness to be a runner. They said he’s their best blocking wide receiver, too. I mean, he does so much. He also too like watching him on the sideline. He never sits down. It’s crazy. Obviously, he’s involved in both sides, but even when he could get a breakdown, I’m watching him thinking, I’m tired just watching you, the Devin Lloyd pick six was a turning point. How did that happen? I loved it. It was a simulated pressure. Everybody hugged up into the line of scrimmage. And if you look pre to that, Devin Lloyd was kind of hanging. You didn’t know. And he fooled Pat for real because early in the down when they were lining up as a defense, he wasn’t into the line of scrimmage and it’s almost like he baited him. And these things don’t usually happen to Patrick Mahomes, but it looked so good and they thought they were going to be able to get this quick slant underneath to Guju. But it was just a phenomenal play by the linebacker. He baited Pat Mahomes, which is which is rare uh especially in those type of situations. But ultimately, this dude has been playing out of his mind. his two interceptions last week, understanding where he needed to drop in that hook zone, understanding to get his hands up and try to just be in the way of whatever that quick game was going to be and it turned into a 99 yard interception. I love the fact that they played games with the Kansas City Chiefs from a defensive standpoint. That is what I always mean when I talk about defenses dictating what offenses do. That is a great example of it. They knew their plan. And Devin Lloyd knew where he should have ended up pre- snap and he got there fast enough to take it to the crib. Yeah, I earlier I said Deon Lloyd might be the most improved player in football, which isn’t to say, you know, he was so bad before, but I think with him, we’re seeing something that we often see in the NFL, which is the linebacker position is really hard. It takes a while to learn, to master. He’s had different coaches, but to Marcus’ point, you don’t get interceptions, the number he leads the league right now, through luck. There’s such an awareness when you watch him in coverage of where the quarterback wants to go with the football. That comes through experience and it’s a reminder to these teams. Sometimes you got to be patient with the linebacker position in particular. Yeah, I think there are some like I I want to say new additions, but maybe some guys that have grown like Jordan Lewis made a big stop on third down. That was huge. That long drive that Kansas City I think they converted. They were like second and 34 at some point on that drive. Six minutes of the clock. Long drive. And the great thing with Devin Lloyd is and this is why coaching matters so much. We’re talking about Trevor Lawrence and Liam Cohen. You can see like Devin Lloyd steps into a line of scrimmage. He sees that the center Creed Humphre is going to block him. So he backs out. Right when he takes a step out, you can see his head snap to Guju. Right when he sees Guju for one step coming back like towards his way, he snaps his head back to Patrick. You could just tell the coaching and the preparation of hey, when if you do this, you’re looking for this. And like it’s not by accident that play happens. No, he had seen some things on film, too. He was excited for that game. He felt like they had a chance to maybe make some interceptions, and sure enough, he did. All right, the Jaguars now have a 77% chance to make the postseason, according to ESPN analytics. Look at that. The third best mark among AFC teams entering the season. That number was at 36%. The Chiefs now have a 64% chance, only good for the eighth best in the AFC. Ravens and Texans each have less than a 50/50 shot. So, that’s what the AFC looks like now, five weeks in. All right, we’re just getting started here on NFL Live. We’re back on NFL Live. What a week it was. Okay, there were six double-digit comebacks in week five alone. Tied for the most in a single week since the 1970 merger and most in a decade. And for the whole season, we’ve now had 17 games decided with a go-ahead score in the final minute of regulation. Also, the most since the merger. The final comeback of week five came on Monday Night Football. Let’s take a look back. Obviously things didn’t start off great for us. Got into a 14point hole early and we just kept battling, kept fighting. Picked off Devin Lloyd down the sideline. Pick six. A minute 48 to go. Andy Reed’s team down three. Hunt in for the touchdown. Play. This is a great opportunity to show to show everybody what kind of team we are. First and goal with 30 seconds left. Lawrence goes down. Has to get up. breaks a tackle. Touchdown Jackson Bay. Jaguars win it. They’ll be partying in Duval County tonight. When you see that, it’s a reminder that the Chiefs were ahead. If if Trevor Lawrence doesn’t orchestrate an incredible drive there that had its highs and lows, they would win. Mina, are you concerned about the Chiefs offense though after last night? The opposite. I feel as good about this offense as I have in quite some time. Um, for a litany of reasons, but you guys, I like to use success rate because it accounts for down and distant distance, pardon me. Last night, the Chiefs had their best offensive success rate in a single game since 2022. That’s crazy, but I believe it. And it they were explosive. You saw that. Obviously, they had three three deep balls to Thornton, but it felt like they were moving the ball on Jacksonville at will. Um there’s a bunch of things they did. We were talking about it. They were running the ball well. They were using more play action which has been now the last two weeks. But to see them do that and then remember that Rasheed Rice is returning to this team in two weeks which gives them such an important answer against zone coverage. This Chiefs team moving forward is going to be an offenseled team and this offense is completely capable of being a top five unit again. Totally agree. They would have scored 35 on the road versus a four- win team if not for the pick six with 13 penalties. Okay. So, I completely agree. So encouraged in the last two weeks by what they’ve done offensively. I think the reason why they’re two and three is in part because this defense can’t get off the field on third downs in the second half of losses. If you if you watch this defense in their three losses and compared to their wins, it’s crazy. So in their wins, opponents on third down are 0 and10. Wow. In their losses, they’re 50% conversion rate. So, you’re just looking at a defense that for the longest time, cuz I was thinking week one, Chargers went down the field and seal the game. Last night, Jaguars go down the field and win the game. And it’s it’s shocking to see a defense that has for the longest time had the closure of a Chris Jones or a Caroftus or a a Sneeed making a play or a Justin Reed making a play. I don’t know if they have that person right now that is playing up to their level. Chris is obviously a Hall of Famer, but do they have that guy on third down in the second half in the fourth quarter with a four-point lead and it’s third and eight to go make the play? I don’t know right now if they have that person on a consistent basis. Yeah, Dio, I agree. And obviously that’s been Chris Jones for a lot. I think last night too, it kept coming to me. Legerious Snee was a guy in those situations as well, especially when you look at the pass coverage that’s taken place in these uh close games that they lost. I know Leger’s been gone for a while, but that lock down corner who we thought McDuffy would turn into, which is he’s still a very, very good player, but teams have been able to make plays down the field. That’s not my issue, though. And I know that I’m probably going to get some flak about this, but I hated the pressure on third and 13 by Spagnola in the red zone. I just did not think it was necessary in that particular situation. I know what you’re thinking. Get the ball out of his hands quick. Let’s try to create an incompletion. But these one-on- ones, you have been losing all night with Trevor Lawrence and these wide receivers in this particular situation. You had two plays. It was third and 13. It was two plays to keep them out of the end zone and you gambled with a pressure instead of You think he was thinking about Trevor Marcus? You thinking he was worried about his legs? I think he was. Well, I think I think so, Dan. But when he went to spying with when he went to spying with Leo Chenol, they start doing a better job with that. I just would have preferred let’s play a gate around the end zone and let’s get to fourth down and try to stop them as opposed to taking that chance on the third and 13. I would have rather them go 13 yards in two plays as opposed to giving up that big PI late in the game like that. Yeah, the Chiefs are favored in all their remaining games by the way. Wow. So against the Lions. Yeah, as of right now that could change. The Chiefs are fine. Something to keep an eye on. All right, we’ll see you tomorrow on NFL Live. Thanks for tuning in as always. Peace. Wow. Thank you.

Dan O may not have set the NFL on fire as a player but he gets better and better as an analyst (generally – the odd hiccup, etc.)
DUUUVAL!!!!!
ESPN has gone downhill
Skeptic on clicking, I feel im gonna get a 2nd video after lol
😅 wow that seemed like thier SB win. Chiefs Kingdom!!
~ This might be the "youngest" team Mahomes has ever played with on both sides of the Ball. Veach has been tactical and ahead of the sticks in terms of putting the right people around HIS best player while taking the duration of HIS entire career under consideration. (Chess not Checkers) But in the interim, they should bench Jaylen Watson or Chamari Conner and start the rookie, Nohl Williams, who seems FAR less fearful than those two. They are the weak links that teams have been exploiting defensively . . . ~
They are not concerned for KC yet they are 2-3. Interesting! Last year KC only lost 2 games all season!
Jayden Daniels as a rookie QB last season made awesome plays to wr Dyami Brown who showed his abilities last season, that helped him get that contract to Jacksonville. Wide receiver Dyami Brown is nice. The same with with wide receiver Olamide Zaccheus who is with HC Ben Johnson & QB Caleb Williams now in Chicago
Who’s else is here because theres no first things first today ?
Mahomes is not the best player in the world anymore, including last year.
Israel is a terrorist state. Anyways, go bucs !
Completely leave out talking about the refs giving the Chiefs a free possession again on the most blatant pass interference, instead of pick. You can't tell me not one of the sideline or refs saw what was the play basically, what were they looking at, nobody looking at the ball or where it travels?
Clearly The Jags were the better team. They had to play the Refs and Chiefs. The Refs crushed the Jags momentum. There is no way the Refs missed the obvious pass interference call. Unfortunately Cheating to help the Chiefs has become part of the NFL. The score should have been 31 to 21 Jags or possibly more. We will never know….
Chiefs are the most overrated team in NFL history. The only reason they went to the Super Bowl last years, is because of the refs
Mina Kimes is awesome!
Jaguars are legit. KC offense is back. It’s the Defense and Special Teams that have to be better. Kickoff out of bounds, DPI late in the game.
Chiefs got 14 points for free and still lost. Washed.
Girls talking about NFL FOOTBALL, Silly, Jus saying
Trevor ballin this year happy for him…. coming from a 🤟🏾 fan.
👂🏼Spaggs? 😮
I would jam him on the line with a linebacker let him peel off to a CB so the Linebacker can go back to zone in the middle or something jam him all fast receiver's I would jam at the line a few time's wear on him.
The production of all these shows might have an influence on the storyline of the game? So who's the director of football operations? 😂 they don't practice they rehearse? What's next ? Everyone gets a trophy? ESPY Award 🤢
It's still amazing to me how some QBs are praised for being athletic playmakers while others are told to dial it back. Wonder what the difference is?
Dan O. Talking About Trevor, Seeing Everything He Was Not.. Especially A WINNER
Jags fans so pathetic they happy about a week 5 win!! Yall are such losers 😂😂
Chiefs are more focused on going Hollywood than football 😂
Travis Etienne saved that play. They are finally playing like a team
He was a bunny rabbit
My two favorite teams, but when they clash, I'm obviously with DUUUUUUVAAAAAL
DUUVAAAAAAL
It's the scheme for Devin Lloyd, he now gets to see the QB and react!
A lot of cake waiting at home 😏
So, the Chiefs would have scored more if not for the interception at the one but no mention of the Jaguars losing the ball at the goal line – both huge goal line stands.
