Arizona Cardinals FOUGHT on Offense First First Time This Season In Loss
Is it weird that this is the best I felt after any game this year, regardless of win or loss? Let’s discuss it. You are Locked On Cardinals, your daily Arizona Cardinals podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. Yikes. This team, man. This team. Alex Clancy locked on Cardinals. Instant reaction. Week six, Cardinals lose 3127. Uh, so here’s the thing. The Cardinals look the best they’ve looked on offense all season today. And this is against a Titans def or a a Colts defense that has kept three opponents under 10 points. And this is with an offense run by a quarterback who hasn’t played in a while with backup running backs and just everybody hurt. It’s crazy to me. It’s crazy to me. Uh thanks everybody for hanging out. Um let some more people come in here. So, what we’re going to do now is we’re going to talk about this is the best they’ve looked all year offensively. So, what does that mean? What now? We’ll talk about Drew Pson. We’ll talk about Jonathan Ganon. We’ll talk about this defense. I’ll do 15 minutes. Then immediately following this, we’ll be doing the Cardinal squad show with J Douglas, Ben Garcia, and myself for a full hour. The Cardinals lose in the best way possible. Okay, they fall to two and four. That’s not great. The defense down the stretch didn’t look good. That’s not great. The Cardinals first and last defensive drives were like a warm knife through butter. Daniel Jones just carved them up. Daniel Jones just carved them up. First drive of the first drive of the game, last drive of the game, just carved them up. But in the middle, they looked all right. The biggest thing for me was that Marv went out early and the offense looked wildly competent. Michael Wilson, Greg Dorch got in the end zone, Trey McBride got in the end zone. It was the types of targets and types of completions that were being made that made me think right away, oh boy, what have I done? What have I done over the last seven years? And I know it’s one game and I call it the Nate McMillan effect where a assistant coach comes in after a coach gets fired and that team goes on a little run because it’s a little bit different. You got a little extra juice. It’s a little different situation. But it was obvious that this offense was much exponentially more competent with Jacobe Brassette. That’s crazy. That’s crazy. I talked about during lockdown Cardinals all week like there’s a chance that the funniest thing could happen. This offense looks exponentially better with Jacobe Brassette doing the same thing. Doing the same thing and that is um crazy to me still. It’s new. Obviously, they lost so it wasn’t like you know like if he came down and they score that touchdown and win the game it’s like oh baby what what is going on here? But they didn’t. Okay so I’m already seeing in the chats fire everyone. Okay, so let’s just talk about that quickly. Drew Pson called his best game of the year this today. So what does that mean? Is that a Kyler thing or is that he just knows Jacobe from their time in Cleveland and he knows his skill set better so they can call different routes because Jacobe resets tall and can see over the offensive line and doesn’t have to, you know, roll out, doesn’t get happy feet, things like that. like, is that where we’re at? Or has Drew Petting been calling this offense the entire time? And he’s been the scapegoat for why it hasn’t worked. I’m seeing like even from people who used to push back on me when I would say, you know, Kyler’s a guy. It’s a lot better than, you know, than what it looks like because the situation and stuff like that. Like, I don’t know how quick to jump off that ship. I’m not doing it yet, but I’ll tell you what. If Jacobe Brassette plays like that at home against Green Bay next week and they get a win or it’s a close game, you got to go with what works best. Now, is Jacobe Brouset a a you know, a journeyman over the last five or six years after starting for a few years in Indie? Like, is he the answer long term? Of course not. But can he keep this team competent throughout games when the offense looked absolutely terrible for the large chunk of the season so far? Yeah. Now, this looks a lot more potent than probably what it should right now. But it’s again, it’s brand new. It’s something that it’s like, oh my, oh my sweet word. Michael Wilson down the sideline to set it up inside the 15 for a drive that gets you to go win the game. It’s like that’s new. That’s not something that happened before. The run game looked better because Jgo Brett was throwing the ball down the field. Greg Dorch got involved for the touchdown on a crossing route. Trey McBride, they ran that play action to Trey McBride that that fooled everyone out of their shoes. So, yeah, they lost. The defense gave up far more points. They gave up 10 more points in their highest water mark up until this point. I’m not counting the Carolina game, but regardless, the Cardinals lose. They’re two and four and the season’s starting to slip away. So, that’s where we are at 114 local time in week six. It’s not great, okay? It’s not fun. It’s not great, but drop some one in the drop a one in the chat right now if that was the most fun you’ve had watching the Arizona Cardinals offense from the first snap to the last snap. Even if they did lose, everybody’s hurt. Like Marv out, James Connor out, Trey Benson out, Michael Wilson left his game, came back and had a couple great catches down the stretch. Drier Jefferson got hurt towards the end of this game. There’s no Garrett Williams. Like there’s no Darius Robinson. The the defensive front just, you know, they held up and then Jonathan Taylor did Jonathan Taylor things. We talked about this all week. I did my crossover with Jake Arthur from locked on Colts on Thursday and he said they throw the ball in the first half and they hammer the run in the second half and that’s what they did. I mean, Jonathan Taylor’s just he’s a top three back in the league for a reason. That’s what it looks like. Just crush your dreams down the stretch. There was no way the Cardinals were stopping them with 55 seconds of a Jonathan Taylor and entire defense. There was just no way. So, what now? What do they do now? I’ll discuss it next. Quick little live read here and I’ll be right back. This episode of the week six instant reaction show lockdown on Carlos is brought to you by Miz and Maine. And I’ll do my full breakdown tomorrow as usual. Uh, you know, this is something that I would push back on. Play calling again is the fault. Like, I don’t know, bro. I don’t know, man. like, okay, Jacobe Brassette is not the answer, but he could be the solution to get the Cardinals to maintain in relevancy. Two and four, not great. Okay, they’ve lost by a combined nine points. Nine points in those four losses. So, that’s the stat. That’s the one where I’m like, damn it. You know, they’re in these games. They had the lead with seven minutes left. They’re in the lead. And it’s not an unusual story where a team would be in the lead and then lose. But the competency level on offense far exceeded exponentially from second one to the final bell from anything that we’ve seen so far this year. Anything. Now, there were flashes of greatness that we saw from this Cardinals team on offense. What did I say? like four quarters of the first five games, five quarters of the first five games, I can’t remember. I actually looked at it. That was the most competent start to finish that we’ve seen so far this year. So, what now? Uh Dakota said starts next week. I don’t know like say the Cardinals bye week was week 10. I don’t know if they would have put Kyler Murray on IR, but it’s like you get three weeks with the by-week and week eight to really determine what’s going on. They’re not trading Kyler Murray. I that’s not something that’s gonna happen. They’re not firing Drew Petting. They’re not firing Jonathan Ganon. Like this game that bought them at least through the by-week cuz they fought. They played really hard. And this isn’t like a Green Ribbon thing. The offense was anemic. The offense slept through large chunks of games. The offense today kept them in it. The offense was the driving force today. Chunk plays, throws down the sideline without Marv. So if Marv, you know, clears concussion protocol and he’s able to play next week, like you have another you have your best wide receiver out there. Z Jones looked good today. Like everybody was getting the ball, which is what we’ve been hoping for, period. Like not even since, which is what we’ve been hoping for for quite some time now. Michael Carter looked much better today than he did in his first start against Tennessee. Like there are a lot of great takeaways to take away from today. And I know it was a loss and I know a loss is a loss and it doesn’t matter and nobody’s going to remember this at the end of the year, but it showed promise that Drew Petting maybe wasn’t the problem entirely. I This is not a good look for Kyler Murray. Let’s just put it that way. This is not a good look for Kyler Murray. And it’s something that we’re getting the full like we’re getting the full Joe Flacco thing here. 20% is Joe Flacco. It’s the same thing. It’s the just old man strength. Has a great arm. like Jacobe doesn’t have Joe Flacco still has like a timeless arm even though he’s wildly uh erratic and and inefficient now but you know it could be a lot worse than I mean they could have had Katon Slovis could have Clayton Tune so while it’s probably not as good as it looks right now because it’s different and it’s new and everything is like oh you’re looking for some sort of reprieve from wanting to bang your head against the It is still exponentially better than we’ve seen of late and outside of four or five quarters offensively this year. This is the best brand of offense we’ve seen from the Cardinals. And that is a massive takeaway moving forward. You hope Marv clears concussion protocol. It looked like he whipped his head back pretty good on that catch across the sideline. the depth of target, the depth of receptions. There were a couple screen passes, a couple wide receiver screens to get the to get things moving. Like, you know, you’ve got to you’ve got to mix things up in some in some respect, but by and large, the play calling was pretty good. Jacobe Brassette was able to execute it. They had a couple really good chunk chunk run game uh uh plays down the stretch. And that last drive was a competent drive that stalled out. the Trey McBride pass interference. Anybody that has been an Arizona Cardinals fan or worked in media for me, as long as I have, the Cardinals never get that call. Ain’t no way, dog. Ain’t no way. It’s just It’s just not going to happen. And I mean, let’s be honest. If Jacobe puts that on Trey McBride, that’s a touchdown regardless. He sailed it. And I think that’s just reps. That’s in-game reps. What? What? What the hell are you What do you expect? Takeaways. Jacobe Brassette looked good. The offense looked functional and competent and the defense wasn’t able to hold up down the stretch. I don’t know if that’s a Daniel Jones thing. I don’t know if that’s a humming offense thing or if it’s a defensive thing. missing their best cornerback, missing some young legs in the interior of the defensive line, and kind of piece mealing together a secondary that’s just been riddled with injuries. Max Milton had had jumped off the sideline today again, hobbled. The redeeming quality above all else is that the offense looks so much better. That looks like an offense you can trust. And again, I will leave you with this. I know because it’s new, it may look better than it actually is, but even if that’s the case, even if it was 80%, if this was the offense we’d seen all year, the Cardinals would be 4-2. So what now? You start Jacobe Brassette against Green Bay. You take your happy asses into your by-week and figure out what the hell to do as to not burn the season down in week nine. Locked on Cardinals, your team every day. Thank you everybody for hanging out. The Cards season is over! We knew from the beginning they won't compete, but you and other fans wouldn't listen!
not for me dawg. this just tells the same story to me, fire petzing.
The other 3 teams are doing great. Meanwhile, the Cards are rhe complete opposite.
If Kyler would have had that same game nobody would be talking like this?! It would be he can’t win the game when he had a chance too.
Kick Murry to the curb, his lack of enthusiasm is infectious, and that is part of the problem with the offense when he is on the field. The defense looked better because they weren't on the field all day. Trade Harrison also! Get a defensive lineman for him.
Kyler SUCKS, 1st time Jacoby plays, WITHOUT Marvin for 1 half, 320 passing yards, 27 points for Brissett. Murray WAS the MAIN problem 100%! Time to lose every game, pick top 10, have our rookie QB learn a lot under a great mentor in Jacoby Brissett, TRADE Kyler to some desperate team!
I've heard a few pundits say Kyler does some things spectacularly but that playing within structure isn't one of them. I've never really seen him throw timing passes consistently. It's just not his game.
Bad take man
MHJ being out was a blessing. He's the passing game problem. Also, the OL was back to normal without Adams and Gaines II out there. Also, people claiming that we scored more points, the players who scrubbed 10-14 points off the board each of the past three weeks weren't out there after the 1st half (excluding Froholdt). MHJ is the primary on many plays and it's clear at this point that he's a bust.
It’s amazing how the backup qb looks good with a completely different offensive scheme being called today lol. Add to that the 2 main reason for our offensive failures were fixed & its amazing how the the offense looks good. The offensive line was finally back to normal which removed the pressure our qb has been under every game, & most importantly, MHJ was removed from this passing attack; his removal opened the passing game up & made it look competent, nothing like when K1 is forced to deal with his consistant errors.
BTW, Alex I told you that this defense has been the reason for our last 4 losses & that they’d blow the game today. None of your excuses from Saturday hold any water after today, & thats the defense we’ve been getting every 4th quarter. This is a defensive issue, they can’t protect a lead, & they’ve been suspect vs the run all season,. They has been no pass rush in any game either, especially in the 4th. Feels good to be right 🙂
Was more fun. I thought Drew was the problem; now sure it's Kyler. 😢❤

Man Alex, that was just an awful take on the situation
This is why you have to take care of business in the games you are supposed to win. Cards do that and they are at worst 4-2. Now this season is close to being done.
Im sure the Kyler stans are taking a sigh of relief that the Cards could not get this win.
I actually felt pretty good about this loss too. Defense could have been better, but I wasn't as worried about them. Maybe the playoffs are out of the question but at least this was pretty entertaining. I'll take what I can get.
Awful takes as usual
Wake up couch don’t what do can’t couch😮
The season is starting to slip away? The season has already slipped away.
Still can't run the ball.
