Bengals INSTANT Reaction & News After 27-18 Loss vs. Packers – Joe Flacco Shows Promise

[Music] What’s going on, Bengals fans? Chris Doter here with our instant reaction to this week six matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals do lose this one 27 to 18 against Green Bay, but I do think there were a couple of things in this game that maybe should make you feel a little bit more confident about the next couple of weeks. We’re going to break it all down here on today’s show, but make sure you are subscribed right here to Bengals Breakdown. We are live for every single Bengals football game of the season. The good, the bad, the ugly, we’ve got it all covered for you here on Bengals Breakdown. So, join the community and hit that sub button for me right now. Let’s first off get into some injury news from this game today. Trey Hendrickson went out at about halftime. Um he was listed as questionable at halftime, but you know after halftime actually happened, he was uh listed as out with a back injury. That’s going to be something that um you know definitely we’re going to have to monitor here. Um you you need Trey Hendrickson on this Bengals defense cuz there were definitely a couple of times in the second half of this game where you really thought that you know maybe if the Bengals can get a stop here on defense that you give yourselves a chance and they just weren’t able to really get any pass rush on Jordan Love. So Trey Hendrickson going out at halftime with a back injury. We’re going to have to monitor here um in the next couple of days. Mike Gaseki also went out at the beginning of the game. Not exactly sure when this injury ended up happening. I just kind of somebody said it in the chat. I went back and looked and Mike Gaseki was out with a pectoral injury. So that could definitely be a couple of weeks. I would probably just, you know, totally assume here for Mike Gaseki if he ended up tearing that. Probably going to be more than just a couple of weeks. Hopefully it’s not going to be super super bad there for Mike Gaseki. But I’m sure he’s going to get an MRI here in uh you know probably the next couple of hours, maybe end up being tomorrow there, but we’ll definitely have a full injury report for you guys as soon as that comes out. Amarius Mims also left in the fourth quarter of this game today. Uh looked like it was probably a, you know, ankle injury for him. I think he probably got stepped on if I were to guess there. It was late in the ball game. He tried to continue to go, ended up playing one more snap, but ended up going out um in the in the fourth quarter of this game today. You know, Cody Ford went in there. And you know, look, you want a Marius Mims out there instead of Cody Ford. We’ll continue to monitor that as well. And then one more player that I want to talk about before we kind of get into some more stuff, our takeaways and everything like that is Logan Wilson. Kind of seems like Logan Wilson ended up getting benched in this game today. only played 12 snaps on the defensive side of the ball. Ben Baby putting this out um you know sometime around the third quarter I think it was said per NextGen stats Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson has not played a defensive snap in the second half. Did also note that he was playing a little bit on special teams. Zack Taylor was asked about it in the postgame press conference and he said that it says more about Barrett Carter than it does about Logan Wilson. So, um, you know, there was some kind of weird back and forth a couple of weeks ago about Logan Wilson not necessarily getting as many snaps as he really wanted to. We’ll continue to monitor that as well, but like I said, uh, Zack Taylor said it says more about Barrett Carter than it does Logan Wilson, but it seems as of right now, Logan Wilson got benched as the linebacker, middle linebacker there for the Cincinnati Bengals. All right, let’s get into some takeaways from this game today. Joe Flacco, I thought, played a pretty decent game today. Look, the first half started off pretty slow, but then in the second half, things really did start, you know, rolling for Joe Flacco and I think it makes you a little bit more confident in what the Bengals can do here over the next couple of weeks. He was 29 of 45 in this game today, over 200 yards passing. I think the biggest thing for Joe Flacco, he did not turn the ball over. No picks. Two touchdowns, no picks for Joe Flacco. And I think we were even talking during the live stream during our watch party. I think Joe Flacco first couple of weeks for the Browns, he had like a 27 or something like that QBR. In this game today, he had a 90 QBR and you know, he was getting the ball to the playmakers. You know, whether it was Jamar Chase, whether it was T. Higgins or even Noah Fant, he was getting the ball to those guys. So, I just think, you know, going forward, you know, you get more practices under your belt, you get some more um, you know, kind of indepth in this playbook. I think you can feel a little bit more confident about Joe Flacco being out there above Jake Browning at that quarterback position. I thought just overall first half was a little slow, but the second half things started kind of coming around for Joe Flacco. And look, this is also a game that I don’t think a lot of people really expected. And I don’t think a lot of Bengals fans really expected to win this game today. And Joe Flacco in the second half put you in a position to possibly end up winning this game. So I want to hear from you guys down at the pin comment of today’s show. Gray Joe Flacco versus the Green Bay Packers. ABCD or F. Let me know what you guys think down at the pin comment of today’s show. Personally for me, I I kind of put it at a B. Um, you know, could it have been better? Yeah, sure. But, you know, he wasn’t throwing interceptions. I that’s a major upgrade and he did put you in a good position there in the second half to win this game today. So, let me know what you guys think. Great Joe Flacco A, B, C, D, or F against the Green Bay Packers. Takeaway number two. Um, I really do hate to say it cuz I have been a Andre Yoshi Voss fan for a while now, but I’m kind of done with Andre Yoshias. He just dropped too many passes today. Um, according to the early PFF stats, he was credited with three drops. I think it was more than that. I think it was probably four or five. Um, and the big one was there on that third down late in the game where you really just needed it. You you needed a catch from Andre Yoshibas and he wasn’t able to give it to you. Um, look, you got you got some other guys that you could go there. you know, Mitchell uh Tinsley, he is a one-handed touchdown catching machine. Um I I think he could probably play a little bit more over Yandre Yoshi Voss. You know, if Germaine Burton can show up to practice on time, I think he’s an upgrade to Andre Yoshi Voss. And I also saw some people talking about Charlie Jones. Where was he um you know, in this game today? I don’t really think, let me just like double check here. Yeah, Charlie Jones not really getting any work with the receivers today. didn’t have any targets, didn’t have any receptions, anything like that. I don’t know why Charlie Jones necessarily isn’t out there. Um I think he’s probably even an upgrade over over uh Andre Yoshi Boss at this point. There just the drops, there’s just been too many drops at this point in the season and we need when every single play absolutely matters right now for this Bengals team. You just cannot afford that. So, you know, whether it’s Charlie Jones, whether it is uh, you know, Germaine Burton maybe getting a start here for the Bengals, he’s been a healthy scratch for every single game so far this season. I hate to say it because I do like Yoshi. Um, but, you know, at this point, you need production and Andre Yoshi Voss is not giving you it. That link’s going to be down in the description of today’s show. It’s also going to be down at the pinned comment of today’s show as well. We appreciate we appreciate uh Omaha Stakes for being the sponsor of today’s video. All right, takeaway number three here. I thought Gino Stone had a day. You know, early on that first drive, he ended up getting the interception. He had a couple uh, you know, really, really big tackles as well in this game. I thought just overall, this was probably the best game of the season for Gino Stone. Just kind of looking at his coverage grades and stuff like this early on from PFF, 71.3 coverage grade today. um 89.1 P uh pressure grade for him. Like I said, you know, he had a sack in this game, had a couple stops in this game today. Had a couple pressures from that safety position as well, and also had the pick at the beginning of today’s game. Um you know, obviously the Bengals weren’t really able to do anything off of that interception because the offense in the first half was, you know, just not very good at all. But, uh Gino Stone, I thought he had a really, really good game today. wanted to highlight that here on our takeaway video. On the flip side though, uh Jordan Battle, he he had a really really rough game today. He was actually, get this, Billy, he was the lowest graded uh Bengals defender. Um you know, in this game today, a 30 coverage grade or a 30 grade overall just on defense for Jordan Battle. trying to find here some of the missed tackles for him because it just seemed like every single time we looked up Jordan Battle was, you know, trying to make a tackle. Um he just, you know, was missing a bunch of tackles, you know, in this game today. It looks like, you know, he still had five. It says he only has two missed tackles, but and honestly just it just seemed like, you know, he had more than that. Uh you know, the coverage grade for him four for four, didn’t have any pass breakups today. Gave up a touchdown. Um, you know, it’s been just a uh, you know, tough ride here for Jordan Battle over the past couple of weeks. And, you know, when Gino Stone’s playing good and Jordan Battle’s not, you know, there was even a play that that I remember off the top of my head that um, you know, uh, the the Packers were going down the field, they were driving, and you had an opportunity to get a stop and and Josh Jacobs was stiff arming Jordan Battle for at least seven, eight yards. Um, you got to be able to make the tackle. And I just thought overall it was a very, very rough game for Jordan Battle in this one today. And I don’t necessarily know that uh, you know, it’s going to continue to go on for Jordan Battle like that. I thought just overall this season, he’s been pretty decent. But in today’s game, you know, whether it was the missed tackles, whether it was, you know, just getting stiff armed, totally getting bullied, not really doing anything in coverage, Jordan B had a really rough one. and I I would love to see him bounce back here in the next couple of weeks. So, what is your one-word reaction to this loss against the Green Bay Packers? I thought it was a pretty, you know, okay game overall. I know you get the loss. I know nobody wants to lose these games, but nobody thought at the end of this game today you were going to be in a position to win it. So, maybe it’s a little bit more positive, but you guys can get creative. down in the comments section of today’s show. What is your one-word reaction to this loss versus the Green Bay Packers? Reaction number five, I will say this, with the addition of Joe Flacco, I think you put yourself in a pretty good position. I think this game against the Steelers on Thursday night is going to be a pretty winnable game. It is at home. It is going to be a short week, but you get a couple more practices under your belt. You have the Steelers this week. You have the Jets. Then you have the Bears. All three of those games are at home. Then you have the Steelers on the road. Um, you know, look, at the end of the day, Joe Flacco is an upgrade for you at that quarterback spot. And I do think just going into this Thursday night football game. That is a going to be a winnable game for the Bengals. You know, after that, you know, you have the Patriots at home. Maybe Patriots seem like a pretty good football team right now. Ravens haven’t looked so good so far this year. Bills, that one might be a loss. But then you have the Ravens again and then you have the Dolphins on the road. Those are winnable games as well. And then by that time you might have Joe Burrow back around mid December. Then you got Cardinals Browns to uh you know round out the final couple of games there of the season. So u you know I I get it. You know, you might be disappointed that the Bengals ended up losing this game today, but just overall, I thought Joe Flacco was an upgrade for the Bengals at that quarterback position over Jake Browning. You know, if they can just get a couple, you know, wins here in the next couple of weeks here, I think you do have some winnable games coming down the road, that can set you up for a pretty solid position to be to be in that playoff race. 3. CTB, Battle, and Yoshi cost this team any chance to win. You want to be the 3rd guy you have to deliver on every chance. I would play Tinsley as the 3rd receiver and bench Battle for Andersen until he gets his head on right.

  4. If there's such a thing as a good loss, this may be it. Uncle Joe commanded the offense, especially in the second half.
When he actually gets up to speed with the offense and the defense starts playing with intensity for the whole game, we may win a few.
