Bears’ Kyler Gordon ready for Monday Night Football return

You’re back and you feel good. Yes. Give me the excitement level to make your season debut. Um, I’m excited, but I’m not trying to be overly excited cuz, you know, I try to like keep my adrenaline down so I’m not doing too much, but definitely very excited. Are you an overly excited guy to play in these prime time games? You said yesterday that you were like annoyed that you couldn’t play in the season opener because it was prime time. Exactly. So, like I feel like this time around, you know, we’re going to play on Monday again. So, I can basically get the start on the Monday again. So definitely very excited to do that and um yeah, just not too high, not too low. This defense needs you, especially in the run game. Uh Ben Johnson said today when you’re on the field, you unlock some things defensively. What do you feel like you can unlock with this defense? Yeah, I think just being on the field, being able to play, make a play in any situation and scenario, whether that’s run, pass, play action, sack, interception, fumble. I feel like uh I feel pretty much do it all and have the capability to do that. So, uh, definitely want to add to the team and help the guys out. He also said you’re one of the few nickels that you have to account for at all time because it’s not just dropping back in the passing game. It’s being able to stop the run as well. Do you feel like you have inserted yourself in that elite company of the handful of guys? Yeah. No, definitely. Um, whether it’s run, I just feel like I’m getting in the mix. Uh, I’m in the box all the time and then this past, you know, I play corner originally, so I get the best of both worlds and uh just really good be able to do whatever I want. Give me the the key to being a good good nickel. It’s kind of a position that’s not talked about as much as maybe it should be in today’s defenses. Um, I would just say having a good mental. you know, it’s not always about the athleticism, which obviously that helps that god-given talent, but um I think having the IQ to know the system, what you’re doing, what other people are doing to be able to go inside, outside, uh communicate to the back seven or to the front seven. Um just being pretty smart and having a good mental really. At one point, did you think you were going to play outside corner with Dennis Allen? Uh he kind of hinted at it. He was like, “We need you on the field essentially as much as possible.” I mean, I practiced all three positions. So, I mean, at any given moment, he could really say, “Do this, do that.” And, uh, I’m ready for it. Uh, you get rewarded with your extension this off season. You were prioritized by this front office. And I love what you said yesterday, too, just about wanting to be on the field for week one because there is there’s two sides to it, right? There’s some people who get their money and they’re like, I got my money. And you seem to be taking the side of like, no, I still got way more I want to show. Why is that? Um, I mean that that’s my name on my last on the back of my jersey. Um, I love the sport and uh at the end of the day I’m not going just because I got money. I’m just going to, you know, take the chill route. Um, I play the sport, not for the money, but uh cuz I love the sport and I love playing it and obviously the things that come along with it come along. But, uh, no, like like I said, I got my last name on my jersey. I’m not going to let no one embarrass me or do anything. So, got to go out there and uh, improve myself every time. What do you love about football now that maybe you didn’t know you love? so much about it when you were drafted. Um, I’ve always always kind of thought in my head like I love like the leveling up process. Like in my head I’ve always like compared it to like Call of Duty or something like that, like a video game where you’re always like leveling up like the next uh prestige or you’re going to be a general and go to lieutenant. Like I always thought of it that way and I’m always just trying to deepen my tool bag and become everything I want to become to try to become a Hall of Famer. Uh, uh, yeah, that’s how I always looked at it. So, how do you feel like you’ve leveled up? Uh, I mean, every year is a level up for me. Um, being a rookie, obviously, everyone be a rookie, a sergeant, and then they going to go to the next one. And, uh, every year I feel like through my experience, I’ve always gained some type of knowledge or, uh, hint or just anything that helps my game. Are you a big Call of Duty guy? Is that like the game? You’re talking to the wrong girl, but it seems to beat the team. Yeah, definitely. Um this off seasonason I always wanted to talk to you because you’re you’re always up to something and I feel like we talked in London. Was that your first time going to Europe? Um to London or? No. Okay. My second time. Your second time. Okay. But it seems like it’s kind of like unleashed this new adventure for you going to Europe and all the fashion stuff. You’re doing the vlogging. Like what brings joy to you from doing that? Um honestly not just one specific thing. like there’s so many different parts of the of the fashion world or even just the experience kind of like when you go through the process of learning football for the first time it’s like oh it’s like interesting like they always say like being in the process is the most fun part about it not not the end part um so that’s how I kind of feel as far as fashion like the learning the history the different materials like the way it feel like um and I feel like I’m still like scratching the surface so um there’s so much out there especially over there in Europe you know you got best of the best tons and tons You got a you got a good game day fit for your first one of the season. I wore one my uh the first game, but I didn’t play obviously. But you got one saved. Yeah, I got I got one. Yeah. Um you mentioned that obviously you play football for the for the love of the game and but there’s things that come along with it. Like what has been the biggest blessing to you of the things that have come along with it that you’ve been able to experience through this game? Yeah. Um I’ll probably say, you know, the life lessons. I feel like all the things that transfer over to life, um whether that be the adversity or working through problems, problem solving or um just overcoming different uh obstacles, um or even just having the right mental to be able to talk to yourself or talk to people um communicate with your teammates. There’s just so many different facets in that um that I feel like help me and just translate over to what I do in real life. Whether that be on the fashion side, how I talk to people, how I uh am detailed in my work or how I’m trying to learn something or get the full concept or grasp. Uh it’s just kind of all that translates over. You said you’re playing to be a Hall of Famer and you’re playing for the name on your back which is bigger than you. But compartmentalize it down to this season and the team and the team and the team. We know that. You don’t need to say that. Um, compartmentalize it down to this season. When people say Kyler Gordon, year, what is this? Year four. Going on my fourth year. Fourth year. That’s crazy. Year four. What do you hope they they say about you and what you were able to contribute to this team? Uh, if I had to choose one thing that people would say to me, uh, he’s the best player on the field. That’s what I probably would say. Um, yeah. I feel like there’s nothing else more that you’d want to than any anyone to say that I would love to play with him, you know? So, uh definitely just be the best in my position and give my all to my teammates and uh and be there for them. Yeah. We’ll see you Monday night. See you then. Love it. Thank you. Thanks. always.

Kyler Gordon is finally back. The third-year defensive back will make his season debut against Washington on Monday Night Football. Cassie Carlso goes one-on-one with Gordon.
