NHL Highlights | Avalanche vs. Sabres – October 13, 2025

just them Josh Dunn, Beck Malenstein along with Tyson Kak against the likes of Landistog the captain, Brock Nelson and Valerie Nuskin of the Avalanche and we are underway last season wearing number 11 Nuskin and Landisk as I mentioned out with this line as well. Malenstein will play it to the corner. Here’s Kak always a worker getting that puck up top and the shot by Dene finds its way through Josh Stone and Alex Tuck with the faceoff in the offensive zone. Tage good at the dock draws it back. Timmons off the backboard. A chance for Tage trying to go to his backhand on a move in front. Couldn’t finish it and Wedwood will save that shot from the point. Oh, that was close. Second one by Power just turns and fires it. McKinnon lean and anious top line for Colorado. Savers win the draw. Faceoffs have been an issue somewhat of late, but a good start in this game. He’s going to reset a little bit. Here’s Timmons on the right side to center. He’ll fire it in. Brent Burns wearing number 84 banging down on the corner there as the Sabers try to win it back. Winski. Salvia, the defenseman. Meanwhile, Salomia in the far corner, turns it over for a quick one-time. You can do that when you know your guys are going to go to the net. So, as soon as that got the puck, they all know that bang, get to the front of the net because it’s going to start coming through. Mloud, Zucker, and Peyton Krebs with a play in the avalanche zone. Colorado will bring it out. Right side entry. Nous leaves it off the bench. McKenz backhand scores. He came like fire off the bench into the offensive zone and took it from there and it’s one- nothing Colorado. Get this puck clean. That’s when Burns fires this one across. Kind of bouncing off the wall a little bit here. Nate just just drops it to him. Nice job pulling it from behind, getting it to his back hand. But you see once he gets into that shooting area, there was no hesitation. Bang. He got there. He took a quick look at the net and Lion not able to get across there. He had plenty of the net to be able to throw that one too on the backhand and Lion not able to get to it. Course will represent Canada at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games. Tage Thompson hopes to do the same for the US after scoring a world championship game winner. They get the puck to the net, but Wedgewood makes the stop and Dene with center ice to take. He’s going to take a little bit more. Delay fires a shot trying to go outside. Unbelievable. Nelson long reach there on power trying to play it ahead and Lechan has it. He’ll hold it inside the Buffalo zone. Mard cross and that’s off the park by McKinnon. Oh my gosh, a rocket. Colorado a one- nothing lead. Almost made it two with this one right here off the post. Stays out. One- nothing AS [Music] comes to the near corner. Krabs back to Timonss with a shot. There’s traffic. Melstein in front. Wedge with the save and he’ll cover up the side of the net. Avalanche kept the draw out of their own zone. Skated out very quickly. Pass through into the seam and a backhander towards the goal. handled by Lion. His third straight start here for Buffalo. Here’s Don with Thompson onto the wing right side. And at the blue line, it’s turned over. Colorado trying to get three up the ice. Sabres will three back. Here’s the fourth player in the zone for Colorado. And Lion able to make the save. And you’re seeing a lot more teams pressure. The point razor on these power plays. Colorado doing that. Good pass to Koulique and a save made by Wedgewood here at the near post. Valley League wide. You know that missed the target. Comes out the far corner where Done is on it for Thompson. He’ll play it back to the point. Brian Johnson holds his and you just never know what’s going to happen. You keep it on the perimeter. You don’t have the same opportunity. Get over to the front. Obviously right here the D of Colorado having a little difficulty controlling and moving. Delay call coming up against the Savers. One, two, three. Pass stop. Rebound cleared away and possession to Buffalo. on a power play coming up for the ABS who are buzzer. Perimeter by McKinnon, but so quick and just off to the far circle to get the shot away, but that is turned aside. And the shot from up high by Mar seen and stopped by the end of 36 on the ice here for this shift with a power play. Avalanche far circle shot stopped by Lion. Good glove save. Avalanche with the Chuskin playing it back to the line. Burns far circle one timer and the line with a save but he couldn’t corral the he does. He’s a very generous man. Sabers trying to earn a shot on goal here in the avalanche. And there it is up scores. Tage Thompson from way up in the zone ties the game at one. [Music] There’s just good work along the wall there by Rasman’s Goline to keep the puck alive. Alex Tuck coming in in support there and just a few feet inside the blue line. That’s what Tage had right here. He had nowhere to go. Takes his shot. He’s got Taves as a screen and he’s going to catch Wedwood short side here. Just the blast from about 3 ft inside the blue line. And at 81 mph almost 82 shot from up there finds a way with yes some traffic hanging around Scott back to Don. You’ve got four to shoot this thing. There it is and it’ll go to the corner off of that shot. Sabres will have 15 seconds to start the next period on the power play. Tataw set to go here in the second period with the Sabres skating from right to left with 15 seconds remaining in the power play. Dome over comes Tuck to the net looking for Rasmus Dene. He was there. Byum at the left point. Sabres always talk about puck possession as well. They’ve got it here. Thompson with a chance. He’s going to find him because he does such a good job of hanging on to the puck and he’s so strong with it. Colorado’s a quick team, so don’t give him the puck so often. Savers have done it here with a turnover to Nuskin right up the middle. Nuskin pass across. They score. [Applause] Yeah, these are comes down unforced errors that Lindy Ruff talked about after the first game. In there after the giveaway and the Chuskin gave it to him. Let’s see here. Good work along the walls. It goes back into the zone and then that quick one-time pass by Dalene trying to go back over to the same side as they come were trying to come out on. It’s picked off and the quick pass right there going to Mar to the net. There’s nothing right there that Savers back to a onegoal deficit. line with a save and another chance flying right at the goal line. Drifting back, makes the stop now on the counter. No drop pass there. A shot and it’s Wedgewood who deflects it. See how the Sabres handle this push into the zone. Nas will leave it. McKinnon dances, fires, and scores. Nathan McKinnon, soon as he got that puck, he had one thing in mind and he took the shot. ly finish it to make it 3-1 with 801 remaining in the second period. Yeah, just cutting into the middle, drawing his man with him right there. And that just opened up an awful lot of room by the time Power is able to get across there to address Nate McKinnon. He was already in that shooting lane. Plus, Power’s got his feet stopped because he’s putting on the brakes and then has to come across with a guy that’s already in motion. He gets to the center there traffic in front. Yeah. He’s never not in motion. No. No, he’s sleepw walk and then gets after Nuskin over the far corner comes up with the puck. Byron passing the skates and by the time he took the shot it’s off the lower outside of the corner trying to center it in front and that puck bounced up. Gavin Bridley was going to the net the list. So pretty special players. Yeah, it is. Yeah. Yeah, they’re generational players that uh Yeah. So, here we go. Third period. Sabr Alex Tuck at center reaching for that puck. Nice little feed inside. Ol stopped by chance in front and a low shot from Alex Tuck as looked like he might have been falling away from the puck. Stopped by Wedgewood. Colorado not played. Lion with a save. Loose puck right in front. He’s down. It’s free in front of him. Now he’s got it. Upon further review, the play was off sides. We have no goal on the play. Loosen up the clock to 1247. Waiting for a pass, they’re standing still. And even if you get the puck, bang, they’re right on top of you. Yeah, the connection’s not there. Lion makes the save. Shot up high. Rebound drops down. 6 seconds left. That’s going to go down the ice. McKinnon with two goals will sit on nine hat-ticks for the year. He won’t get the 10th here today. It is a 3-1 Avalanche. [Music]

Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, Martin Necas dished out two assists, and Scott Wedgewood stopped 28 shots to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

  1. Nate Dawg wanting to hear some buffalo boos, nice play by Val to setup Makar with that goal. Solid all around game fellas.
    Lets Go Avalanche!

  2. On the bright side, Sabres lost the first 3 games last season too. Sure they missed the playoffs but they went on a bit of a run to get themselves back into a playoff position for like….3 days in November. 👍 I don’t know. What do you even say to a Sabres fan at this point?

  3. The Sabres are actually a pretty solid team. Just some unlucky bounces. Kevyn Adams has absolutely built a great team so everyone just needs to relax. The FIRE Adams chants are absolutely uncalled for and need to stop.

  4. showing the coach's challenge call that overturned the would be 4th goal for the Avs but not showing the actual play before it was a very questionable choice, is everything alright at Sportsnet? You guys cutting corners?
