Minnesota Vikings Team Press Conferences | Week 7 vs. Eagles | October 13
Welcome back to soccer field. I know that you’ve been wanting to get out of here. How you feeling? I feel great. Um, you know, through the past four weeks have had to, you know, be patient, get the get the leg right. But, uh, you know, when you get be able to be back on the grass with your brothers, it it’s, you know, you start feeling like yourself again. KO was saying just how important you are to this defense getting back to its core identity in terms of you being on the green dot, allowing guys to go back to the things that they’re comfortable with. How was that comfort level for you knowing that things can kind of settle down maybe a little bit with you back there? You know, uh I felt like the defense, the guys that had to step up and maybe take a bigger role, they did a really good job. Um of course, you know, the games where uh there was pockets if the defense struggles, you know, it it hurts to be on the sidelines and I can’t be out there to help, but uh I I do my best to stay engaged uh engaged with the game plan, you know, taking my notes to, you know, help the front, help the other linebackers. um just kind of give them little tips here and there of what I’m seeing how uh they can play better and how they can um ultimately help the defense. But uh you know it’s gonna you know as long as things continue to trend in the right way to eventually get back out there and um you know communicate and run the defense again. Like how are you feeling? I feel great. You know the trainers uh the whole strength staff, performance staff, they did a wonderful job. Uh you know this is something I’m familiar with. Um, you know, it’s been a while, but uh, you know, it was really important to get with them the first day and kind of go over a plan for the past month to, you know, make sure my my health is is straight and I got the the hammies bulletproof. So, I can go out there with 110% confidence and go play to my best my abilities. You said you’ve been through this before. I mean, what’s the frustration level that you had to navigate so many injuries? you know, it’s uh no matter if it’s, you know, one week or or four weeks, it’s it’s always frustrating to uh be on the sidelines cuz um you know, we put a lot of time and effort into this game as players. So, uh to not be able to, you know, reap the benefits or the rewards of uh playing out there on Sundays, it uh it hurts the soul a little bit, but uh you know, that’s where you got to understand, you know, you just got to get healthy and stay resilient and be patient through the process. say the hammies is bulletproof, but being patient is also part of this process too, right now for you, right? Absolutely. Because, you know, uh I understand that we opened up my window and um you know, you got to take it day by day, uh shake the rust off and you know, you can do all these wonderful things to uh get healthy and get stronger uh and to improve as much as you can, but ultimately uh what helps the most is being back on the football field doing football activities. overseas. How did it feel to play that line? Uh it was good to go out there and play, you know, it was a different scenery, you know, different uh game field, uh you know, different country was in playing ball, but you know, it was good to go out there, you know, and just stack another week. You getting pretty comfortable playing that spot. Yeah, of course. You know, just the more reps, you know, the more experience you get at, you know, the more comfortable you get. They put a lot of uh emphasis on linebackers in this, the way this defense is set up. Well, you know, is that a pride and joy when you guys cuz you’re pretty versatile group, but you got if you don’t make plays, the defense usually doesn’t play very well. I mean, yeah, you know, I mean, you you you feel some type of way knowing that, you know, you play a position that, you know, that the defense really the balls around in a way. Uh, but, you know, we have different pieces on our defense, you know, different guys, you know, where you can put them at different positions and, you know, play out of position, you know, and also be impactful and make plays, you know. So just understanding, you know, what Flo has drawn up for us, you know, and just understanding that we have a good group of dudes that’s that can fulfill any challenge, you know, any uh uncomfortable out of comfortable position, you know, that anybody’s playing, you know, play at a high level. Pretty good quarterback you’re going to see on Sunday. Yes, sir. Tell me about him. Uh, you know, Super Bowl champion, so you know, uh, definitely a good quarterback. You know, runs that group very well and, you know, it’s going to be something to look forward to on Sunday. Just how’s that wrist feel in a couple weeks posting out here? Uh, it feels uh, feels pretty good, you know. So, um it’s just getting out here, gaining confidence in it. Um the training staff did an amazing job. Um especially over the bike, even overseas with the facilities we had, trying to get it right, trying to get the inflammation down. I’m just out here trying to strike and uh make sure it feels good. We’ve been talking with you since you decided to play that game after suffering the injury, I guess, just what went into that from your your mindset? Yeah, you know, um couldn’t get any worse. That was my mindset. I was uh I was told that yeah, it was a it was a significant injury in terms of risk, but um they said, “Well, if you brace it up, you won’t you won’t have to get surgery at least for like another week.” And so I was like, “Oh, so I can play the game.” They’re like, “Well, we don’t recommend it.” I was like, “No, you said another week. I’ll be fine.” And so, uh played the game. Uh did uh did what I could to the best of my abilities and then I was really on a plane that same night. Were you fighting the idea of surgery even? Were you saying, “Hey, I got through the Cincinnati game. I can get through the rest of the year.” Yeah. And uh I was talking to Trac that was our concern saying how if I felt good afterwards I’ll be like well I don’t need it. They’re like no you need it. You’re young get it fixed now so it’s not nagging you uh down the stretch. So you know got it fixed. Um you know it sucked not being able to be out there with my teammates but you know I was able to be out there in spirit and you know hopefully uh get it going in get more confident striking try to you know uh get it going after that. But just wearing a brace or is it just going to be wrapped up for for Sunday? Yeah, know we’re going to u prepare accordingly. You know, it though it is repaired, you know, still have to take precautions with it. So, um as long as I have uh certain mobility and certain uh mobility in my fingers as well, then I’ll be all right. Well, you see the wisdom too now and the doctor’s telling you what to do, right? So, how are you feeling now in terms of like mentally testing that? Yeah. No, I feel pretty good. You know, um I’ve everything has checked the boxes of hey, like it’s structurally sound now. It’s up to, you know, you and pain tolerance, how much you trust it. So, um I’m just going to keep going out there and keep doing what I do on the field and uh hopefully that confidence and the strength grows along with it. In terms of just as a player, not the wrist, but how how big were those first couple games for your confidence and seeing what you can do out there? Those were huge. You know, um you know, growing up being a fan of the sport, you know, you always dream of getting to the NFL and uh being, you know, being in it is one thing, but playing in it is another. And so, um you know, I knew the coaches believed in me, my teammates believed in me, but having that instilled that confidence in myself. So the more I did on the field, the more confidence grew. And so just uh going as um uh great competition, uh great D lineman, great linebackers, everybody just uh instilled more confidence in my game. Was that the wrist thing ever in the past? Just a new thing that popped up. That was new. Yeah, I’ve never had this. What did you think of the way the guys stepped up in Cleveland or against Cleveland in your I thought it was huge. You know, I feel like uh um we had to move some guys around, but I feel like everyone played uh played their part and played amazing. You know, uh, coach Okconor always says adversity is there if you want to find it. [Music]
