Tusks Up, Mammoth!

My heart sank when I saw 4 players within 15 feet of the puck on the PK
Very frustrating game
2 of 6 available points isn’t going to get the mammoth into the playoffs. Team looks really disorganized. Bear has to realize this is essentially a contract year for him, right?
This was a really tough one. I think we have the pieces, just need to put it together and play a complete game
They looked like they didn’t even want to be there
Actually painful to watch, seems like everyone besides Guenther and Simashev doesn’t wanna be there.
2 penalties that didn’t happen against us 🤦♂️ Are we not paying the refs enough?
The only redeeming quality of the game is Simashev is a beast getting 1st line minutes and Peterkas first goal as a Mammoth.
3rd line looked neutered, Carcone doesn’t have the grit and play making that Doan had.
Keller seems timid on shooting, Schmaltz is on track for a 1st goal in November like last year. Hayton is brushing off rust but gave us some much needed net-front presence.
First game I got to watch in its entirety! Bummer it was a loss.
The first period I was impressed we kept Blackhawks scoreless! They had some good chances and Vitek and co kept them off the scoreboard! Aside from that, not a ton of great things happening in the first.
The second we looked a lot more cohesive and had some solid sustained o zone time. I’m not exactly sure what the difference was, but I think the guys were just more settled and forechecked a little harder. Only major note was Keller passing up a stellar chance to score, I love our captain but sometimes I wish he was more selfish and realized he is one of the best scorers in the league.
In the third I honestly felt pretty good about our play! Our top two lines were creating solid chances and I knew it was a matter of time. Lo and behold, Peterka gets his first (of many) to get the one and only goal tonight! That young gun line gets me SO excited. The sheer speed in that group is unreal and the playmaking is dynamic. I suspect that line will be the best one for a good while! If it weren’t for a penalty from Sergy and Marino, I think we win this or go to overtime. Without having our best penalty killer, we lost track of assignments and left Vitek on and island. Not sure if it was more Cole’s or Gunner’s fault, but either way it cost us the game. It’s early, so I’m not calling anything big but I am not certain Cole is earning his keep. But I suppose with Durzi out I’ll hold my tongue.
Overall, offensively we are surprisingly sluggish to open the season. Granted, with Hayton back I suspect our top line to get into shape soon. I also hope Kerfy gets better soon, his all around skill is sorely missed!
Highlight of the night was easily watching Sima play some spectacular defense. Early in the first he over committed to the puck with Cole also there, the pass got to an unmarked forward for Chicago and without Sima’s length and skill that’s a breakaway 1 on 1 shot. However, he recovered and slowed him down (got a weak penalty call, but still prevented a high danger shot). It’s insane how BIG Sima is, makes Bedard look like a child when he is smothering him like a blanket! The fact that tonight he played top line minutes toward the end with Sergy, should show you how great he looked. I said on here that with Durzi out we need Sima to prove he is ready. Small sample size as it is, he is proving he was worth the top draft pick, and was worth bringing straight up instead of down the the AHL.
Overall, we played a somewhat lacking game against a team that hadn’t won hosting their home opener. It was a winnable game, but we forced some errors that were too great to overcome.
On to the next one! Let’s get the boys home and show them how stoked we are to see them!!
Let’s go club the flames!
What the FUCK were all four penalty killers doing chasing the puck on that second goal, especially Ian Cole. That was super embarrassing. These coach has to inflict some discipline in this team before his seat gets warm
Didn’t catch this one. It was that bad?
They need to get a few greasy goals to get going. Seems like they are focused on getting grade-A chances, but sometimes you just gotta grind and get some hard working goals. D men need to shoot more, need more netfront
