Josh Naylor, Eduard Bazardo & Dan Wilson Recap Seattle Mariners STUNNING Blue Jays in ALCS Game 2
We’ll start right here. Dan, just you know, you’ve spoken about Jorge obviously and the positions that he’s, you know, come through in, but just, you know, what is it about him? How are you surprised or, you know, what’s your reaction to the fact that he just continues to come up and and not just get hits, but get RBI’s in those moments? Yeah. uh coming up huge in big moments and um you know uh just his at bats have been so good. You know whe again whether it’s right-handed or left-handed tonight it was left-handed. I thought the you know uh the at bat there um to to get the three-run homer uh was was you know a huge turnaround for us. you know, we had kind of given up the lead. It had been tied up there again and and to get that three-run lead back uh was big and um you know, that was just a great at bat getting in there and and just doing what Polo does. You know, he waits to get a good pitch and and he puts a really good swing on it and um you know, he’s a tough tough out right now and and uh it’s been huge for us and and he’s come up in sit, you know, in these in in situations where we’ve had guys on and he’s been able to do the job and drive them in and that’s what this game’s all about and it’s been phenomenal. Other questions for Dan? Yes, the back right. Just wondering what was what was the key to battling the any potential fatigue from the last series coming into this one. How did you handle that as well as you did? Um, couple things, I guess. You know, nothing that I think our guys are are have proven over the course of the season to be very resilient. Um, they’re just uh kind of built that way. Uh, whether it’s emotional or mental, whatever, they’re they’re just resilient. they bounced back and and uh to get a emotional win at home like that uh and come back here on the road, these guys were ready to go and and uh they knew we had more business to take care of. Um secondly, you know, um being out on the West Coast, you travel a lot. It’s just part of the deal. Um and uh um so uh you know, I think in some ways they’re maybe a little bit used to to those longer flights and and uh you know, having to deal with the uh some of the delays and whatever happens. But um you know again I can’t speak enough to to how resilient they are, how hard they fight and and uh it’s been a big big you know big part of what we’ve been able to do all season alone. Third row on your left hand. Yeah. Just uh you know your bullpen obviously you know game four in Detroit falters and then since then has been nails for three straight games plus you know with the 15 innings and taking you through some really hard times in terms of needing length needing innings. What does that say about this group uh in the bounce back there to be able to do what they’ve done? Yeah, I thought it was a, you know, just an outstanding job again tonight by the bullpen. Um, you know, Logan giving us three and and that was what we needed. Um, and then, you know, you hand the ball to Bazardo who’s been so solid, so consistent all season long and and gave us uh, you know, a nice bridge to get to the later innings. Um, and then Variegy, you know, jumping on after we were able to take a lead. And um you know when you got a guy like Varggy who’s who was able to come in and throw 98 99 miles an hour um you know that’s a that’s a plus and and again he gave us two strong innings turned it over to Emerson and and you know another two strong innings. So um just an excellent job by the bullpen tonight. Uh you know you can’t you can’t ask for more than that and these guys really delivered and uh gave us some strong innings tonight. Go to Brian Fiver straight back. It looked like Naylor had that uncomfortable at bat. Did he have to say anything to you to for you to keep him in the game? Uh Nails is as tough as they come and and he doesn’t want to come out. He doesn’t want to come out and and uh you know, it’s just a matter of of making sure he’s okay and and and good enough to play and he was and and he’s I’m you know, I’m not coming out. So, um you he’s as tough as they come literally and and uh for him uh to stick it out like he did tonight was was phenomenal. And then and then later on to be able to, you know, get a pitch he was able to handle and and drive it out of the ballpark. just a testament to how strong he is and and how much he wants to win. You talk about that home run. What do you think that meant to him hitting it here? I mean, it’s got to it’s got to feel great in front of the home folks, you know. Um and and uh you know, you know, uh it feels good going around the bases and and uh you know, um a lot of history here for him and and his family’s here, so it’s it’s got to feel great. Uh but but again, um you know, he’s he’s all about the team. He’s all about winning. He’s all about um you know doing what it takes and tonight was was another example of that in in a big stage. Take a couple last ones on your left. Dan. Yeah. Uh Dan, just you obviously know what this means to the fan base and how starved they’ve been for a situation and opportunity like this just as you come back up 20. What’s your message to to the fan base as they get ready to come out for game three? Yeah. Um, we’re super excited to get back home and and and uh keep playing baseball in front of, you know, in T-Mobile Park and and we know uh what that atmosphere is going to be like. We’re I mean, we’re so excited to get out there. The fans really have been so tremendous. You can’t thank them enough for the the force that they have been at the ballpark and at home. Um so, we’re looking forward to getting back um and and feeling that energy again in the ballpark. And um we know we have work to do. You know, um these series take on a life of its own. We we’ve got plenty of work to do and and uh got to stay focused on where we’re headed. Uh and we know our fans will will help us get there. All right, Dan. Have a safe trip home. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right, we’ll get started with Edward. Freddy’s here to assist and we’ll start the fourth row on your left, guys. Toronto. World. Yeah. The question was, you know, what are some of these emotions? You won your first uh game, postseason game here in in today, but what was the emotions like? You know, you guys went 15 innings um back home, you know, come here and you the way the bullpin performed. How are you feeling? Um and u his answer was um yeah, it’s very emotional. I mean, I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Dan gave us. I mean, obviously the the game in Detroit was a little long, longer than we needed to, but we’re in the postseasons. You know, we we are all here you trying to get do the most we can to win and you know, the the end goal is to get to the World Series. Third row, your left guess. Yeah. Just kind of off of that, obviously game four in Detroit was a tough one for the bullpen, but then to be able to come back and do what you guys have done in the three games since and be lights out since then, what does that say about this bullpen’s ability and your ability personally to be able to bounce back from a situation like that and do what you’re doing now? Uh I think like like the game four for us was a little bit bad because early we got the game was we was won the game but after that like they Detroit was getting back to to the game. the bullpen coming a little bit bit down but you know the for me I feel like uh the bullpen we try to get be together like uh we stay together uh like sometimes going to be bad but we stay like throws what we got and that that happened to the to the game fight like we keep pushing we throwing good inning and that helped to to like uh take take the lead and and stay like uh what we are right No. Other questions? Brian, what do you expect Seattle’s going to be like with you guys going back up two nothing? Say again. What do you think Seattle’s going to be like with you guys going back with a two- lead? Uh, you know, we need to keep working uh keep game uh scoreless in it. That is the most important from from us to the bullpen like uh try to keep attacking the hitter and that that feel good because we back home to with two of and but we need to still working to to get the the the two more game. Other questions for Edward? Anything else? All right. Congrats to on the big win, Edward. Thank you. Thanks for your time. Thanks, Freddie. All right, we’ll get started with Josh. We’ll go to the second row right up front. Thank you. Uh, hey Josh. Uh, I was just curious, man, coming in here winning the first two games and then getting that home run today in front of your own home crowd. You know, what was that feeling like? Uh, it’s great. Uh, I mean, we just want to win at the end of the day. Um, I went 0 for four yesterday and we won. So, if I did it again today, maybe was a good luck to go for four and we win again. So, um, but I was very thankful to get some hits, help the team out. Um, super cool to do it in front of my family, too. I’m very blessed to have them all here on my friends and it was a really cool moment for them. Third row on your left. Josh, I’m curious. You know, the last three games, you know, everything has gone your guys’ way, but obviously, you know, game four in Detroit, you guys lose that lead, but afterwards being in the clubhouse there, there was a confidence there that you were going to go back to Seattle and get it done. Obviously, you win there, you win two more games. I’m curious about the belief in that clubhouse even after suffering a loss that you’re going to be able to turn it around and put something together and be where you are right now. Um I mean every day you wake up ready to win or at least try to be try to be ready to win. Um things may go your way, things may not. As long as you give your best effort, you can go to bed happy at night. Um whether you lose, win or draw, if you work hard, um play smart and have fun during it. And I feel like you can go to bed content. Um we have full belief in each other as teammates um as a whole locker room, coaching staff included. Um and we just we want to play hard. If you play hard, good things will happen. Standing in the back left, Ryan Josh Cow was wearing a shirt that said jobs not finished. And he was talking about the message. He said like you can’t allow yourself to think about you guys being two games from the World Series, two wins away from the World Series. How do you maintain that singular focus that it’s just every day instead of looking at the overall big picture of where you could get to? uh feel like you just watch what happened the day before. Um whether you win or lose, it’s it’s in the past and now you got to take care of the present. Um any moment you get in that next game or any opportunity you get in the next few games, like you just want to make sure you capture it, make sure you take advantage of it fully. Um I don’t really like looking to ahead. I like taking care of the day and if we win, awesome. if we lose, you know, take those lessons and learn from it and then move forward to the next game. Second row at your right, Josh. Hey, Josh. Um, when you clinched uh to advance the ALCS, you spoke about how excited you were to see some of your friends from the Guardians organization on the Jays. What’s it been like reconnecting with those guys? Awesome. Um, I gave him a big hug today. Um, I saw Straw before the game um yesterday when he was hitting early work. He texted me to come out, so I gave him a big hug. Um, we just talked about how our families were, how we’re doing as individuals. Um, we’re all really super super close when we were there. And, uh, you know, those memories last forever, those those friendships last forever, and I’m super grateful for the moments we all had together. Uh, whether they’re on the field, in the hotel, at dinner, on the bus, um, wherever they were, I’m super super grateful for those moments. And they’ll go down as like some of my favorite teammates I’ve ever had. And unfortunately, I didn’t really get to see Sandlin. Um, I got to see Bieber. I think he’s throwing game three maybe. I’m not sure. Um I got to see him there, but we had so many awesome memories on that team and we’ll carry those memories forever and it’s kind of shocking that we all got broken up and now we’re all almost at the World Series. One of us are going to go to the World Series which is super cool. Um so I mean you just you never know where your journey’s going to take you. You never know who you’re going to play for, who you’re going to play with. Uh, baseball’s such a small world and such an awesome game that it’ll take you around and you just got to keep rolling with the punches. Fifth row straight back. Brian, you had that uncomfortable at bat. Did you have to say anything to Dan Wilson to stay in the game? Um, I just told him I’ I’d let him know. Um, and that’s that’s really it. Like, yeah, maybe a lot of us are sore, a lot of us are hurt. I mean, probably on both sides. Um, but these are important games and I don’t really want to get taken out of it if I can still stand. And then as you’re rounding the bases, did you think of anything specific hitting a postseason home run here in Canada? Not really. Um, I just wanted to honestly get a hit. Um, I try to work it good at bat. I think I got to like 3-2. Um, try to see a pitch elevated 3-2 and honestly just do what Poland did and and get on base. Go to the second row on your right, Josh. Josh, as you look ahead, what worries you about what the Blue Jays might bring to the series and the the games in Seattle? What are you worried about the them maybe doing to kind of turn the tide here? I mean, if we play our game, I think we’re we’re we’ll be in a good position. Um, we just need to come to the ballpark every day prepared for every obstacle we can possibly face and go from there. Um, some innings are going to be good, some innings are going to be bad. Um, sometimes you’re going to get an opportunity and you may fail in it and that’s okay. You just got to learn from it and when the next opportunity arises, try to be better. Um, you know, that’s a great ball club we’re facing and it’s it’s really cool. I tell a lot of people this, it’s really cool to face um great teams and great individuals on the other teams cuz I feel like you get better as a player as an individual. um you know having the opportunity to watch this young guy who threw today and see how unique he is in in what he does and how he throws and the reason he’s had so much success in his life and then you know you get to see a hitter like Springer and Vlatty who are such elite hitters in in their careers and maybe pick out little things from their swing and maybe you can add to yours. I I love facing great pitchers and great opponents on the hitting side and then honestly watching him on defense is poetic. It is unbelievable um how smooth that guy is and how confident he is getting to certain baseballs. And I know he threw a ball away today, but I’ve seen him make that play like nine out of 10 times. So when he got like, “Oh god.” Because I knew that he can make those plays. So I just I love facing good competition as as you all as we all should as players, which we do. Um so it’s been super great facing them here and and facing them in this in this ballpark. Great fan base. Um yeah, we got two last ones teed up in the back right corner. Josh, um, I think a lot of people thought you guys might be a little fatigued after what you went through out in Seattle, but you guys come here and look really fresh. What was the key to coming in here and being, you know, as good as you’ve been and not letting that fatigue be a factor whatsoever? I mean, I think in these moments, these playoff moments, you’re not, you can’t be fatigued. Um, every game matters, every pitch matters, every opportunity matters. So, you got to be able to turn the page quick. You got to be able to find a way to get energy. Um cuz you need a win. Um in the regular season, yeah, say you have an extra inning game, late night travel, you get into another place, you know, could be cross country, time zone change, maybe. Yeah, fatigue can set in. But I think in the playoffs, and this probably goes for both sides and all teams that are in the playoffs, it’s like you got to be willing to find energy anyway anyhow or you know there’s that’s the an excuse and you don’t want to have an excuse kind of in these situations. These games are too important. Finish up in the third row on your left. Yeah. Josh, just having played a bunch of playoff games, how much can a homefield advantage tangibly help? And having played a couple in Seattle, what are you expecting it to be like in a couple days? Um, just full of energy. Um, full of just an awesome fan base who loves baseball, loves to watch their their hometown team win. Um, and I think we really feed off that as a group. Um, I mean, I sure do and I 100% can say everyone else does. We have such loud fans. They do a great job of keeping the fans entertained in between innings, in between pitches. Um, I I love playing there. It’s been it’s been super awesome. I’ve gotten so many compliments from friends who’ve watched me play or or ex- teammates I’ve played with or even just opponents who I’m playing against like how awesome it is in Seattle and um how cool the fan base is and how they just they’re like ride or die um Seattle and it’s it’s super awesome to be a part of. All right, Josh, special day for you. Thanks for taking the time. Appreciate it. Have a safe trip home. Hey, hey, hey.

As a Seattleite living in KY, I’m so proud of my team and the multi-national roots. #gomariners
You shouldn't be able to be in America unless you speak English
Dan is the MAN!
I think Vargas frustrated them he went full count alot lots of pitches it was great to see him do well
The translator giving Bazardo a death stare lol
"no excuses" Naylor is cool ah
just came to say l ❤️Josh Naylor. His mindset matched with his game intelligence added with his heart and desire. I ❤️him.
Bazardo has been as clutch on the mound as Polo at the plate.
The job isn't done.
Do not get comfortable like the Yankees did that one time against Boston.
Bazardo has really come up big. Crazy considering where he was at last season. So proud of him.
Foot on gas ⛽️
Naylor is a beast, great ball player, and great guy
The MVP on the TEAM is? = Too the player that wins the Game? all the win come from? the hitter that drives in the runs ? Polanco Not 1 word? ok !???????????
Dan Wilson is one cool articulate head coach. Analyzes and gets along with the players as well. Glad to have him!
For all us older Seattle baseball fans we rem Dan Wilson very well! It is such a GREAT thing that he is coaching this team when records are being broken and the team is performing at fantastic levels! He is so DESERVING of being with this team when they break more records! So glad he was named for the replacement manager position last year! For those who don't know him he was a GREAT catcher for Seattle from 1994 – 2005! He is the PERFECT coach for Seattle!
I Love Dan Wilson!!!
Incoming sweep 🧹 Go Mariners 💨⚾️
The best thing that ever happens to the Mariners is Dan Wilson to lead these young men as passionate as the Seattle fans.
This shiz needs to stop. Not Trump but in the playoffs I want to hear his words, not translater. Had enough with Ichiro
1: new dad strong. 2:focused on his job in the present. 3:Josh is freaking awesome and I love everything about him!!!
Josh is definitely the team leader. Dipito open up that check book and resign Josh
Didn't respect Josh originally but he has won me over as a baseball player he doesn't enjoy but respect his skillz and work towards winning.
"Tough As Nayls" needs to be a T-shirt.
Team chemistry is the most valuable advantage M's have over other teams!
Seize the moment. Job isn’t done just yet. One game at a time. Keep cookin fellaz. Bring MOJO back home to Seattle,WA💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛🔱
Imagine how good the Mariners could have been for the last 4 years had they canned Scott Disservice. God that manager was a 💩
Lord Bazardo
This team is special man go mariners
Naylor is a true ballplayer!
GO MARINERS 🔱
Professional Sports Playes Hate Gatorade. – Takes Gatorade Off The Table 😂
Josh moving the gatorade bottle away made me so happy… obvious advertisement placement and he's like "Nah, get this sh*t out of here".
I started the season thinking his name was Eduardo Bazardo, and being a fan of his name. Now, I am no longer an ironic fan of his, but a genuine fan. His ascent from being the blow-out guy to a bullpen ace has definitely my favorite individual story on this Mariners team.
sometimes he looks like Shane Gillis.
Good job so far Dan, proud of you.
Living in the Seattle area and I haven't followed the Mariners in years, then I hear Dan Wilson's name, how in the heck did he become manager of the Mariners, then Edgar being hitting coach? What a fantastic sports story!
