China Banned Us, Suns Win OT Thriller!

Welcome back to Suns Valley Podcast everybody. Sorry our last transmission got cut off early. We got our live stream copyright strike. Thanks to Sundo. Yes, thanks to Sundo. It was all this fault for talking bad about the great Republic of China. All joking aside though, we think we know who really did it. Not that it matters, but weirdly enough, it’s coming from a company that works directly with the Brooklyn Nets. So, if just for the record, if anybody was curious, not a big deal. We’ll be able to stream again hopefully in a week. But the biggest problem with this live stream being taken down was the fact that this was one heck of a game. Sundo, it started off bad, man. started off with the first quarter that the Nets were on fire, but again we started to then you you saw us draw even the third quarter while the stream went down. We saw Booker kind of did end up taking over a little bit and the team did get get it together and ended up tying the game and taking the lead. And so yeah, it ended up being a good game toward the end. And hey, at the beginning I said that, hey, we needed to cover. We could cover. I said everybody on FanDuel that hey, we were we were what was it? three and a half point favorites and we ended up winning by five. So, we still ended up covering anyway. So, I appreciate the Suns for that. They needed overtime to do it, but they got the job done. And of course, preseason games do not matter. That’s not what we’re trying to say. That’s not the moral of this story. What I’m excited about specifically, and why I wanted so badly for the Suns to come back and win the game, was because they were down so much to start the game. And to see that this team can and will down to the last player on the bench fight and continue to fight through adversity and find a way to come back and steal the game from a team that had you pinned all game. Uh I didn’t think they were going to do it. I really didn’t. And the fact that they were able to get that done with their backups, I think that that bodess well for the future of this newly aligned regime and it’s two steps in a row forward. You did it against LA. You beat the brakes off of LA and then in a game that wasn’t going your way, you showed you could get that done, too. Yeah, I agree. I think the first game against LA had a lot to do with your starters and the main rotation that we talked about. And I think this game, yeah, the starters had a had a big hand in the comeback, but I think this game told you a story about the backups that you have and and their willingness to fight. It told you a story about the rookies that you drafted and Fleming and Malawatch. And so I I really did like that, man. There was a lot I like to see from Malawatch and Fleming. Yes, they have some room to grow, but the plays that they made, Malawatch really flashed his athleticism, his ability to rebound, his ability to play defense. Fleming the same thing. Uh Fleming had some chase down blocks I love to see and also flashed his athleticism and his ability to score in the fourth quarter in overtime as well. So I really love seeing that. Jordan Goodwin, I mean it’s Jordan Goodwin. He’s as advertised. Jordan Goodwin looked good. Nigel Hayes Davis had a rocky fourth quarter. He did sort of show out a bit as far as effort and making right plays go in overtime. My only negative, and I know you share the same negative, is Jared Butler, but again, we’re talking about a backup combo guard here, but he did have um a bit of ballhogedness to his game in the fourth quarter in overtime. Didn’t really serve the team, especially when they wanted to extend that lead. There was a play some plays that were there to be made and he didn’t make them and sort of held on to the ball and you know kept held the ball and sort of gave himself a grenade as we always say and didn’t make the pass to the corner where you could have had somebody shoot for you. Had a lot of self-inflicted wounds himself there in overtime to close the game out. We didn’t love seeing that. But from the other guys, absolutely liked what we saw in the effort to win this game. Jared Butler’s a tricky one because while yes, I was upset with him towards the end of the game because he wasn’t passing at all. I’m sure some people will look at that and say, “Hey, he took over.” It is largely due to him that we were able to make it to overtime. I think he had the last two buckets and he had a very timely foul on the inbounds where he tried to make a steal and he fouled, stopped the clock, they missed a free throw. So, he did good things. But yeah, you and I both would just like to see him passing a little bit more. It seemed like he really really was tunnelvisioned at the end of the game. And uh but then he goes and throws a great alleyoop to our guy Fleming who boiling, you know, misses the dunk and it’s like he did pass there and that wasn’t his fault. So back to Fleming and Malawatch real quick. Man, what a combo these two guys can be at four and five. the the range they have on defense, the length to go block shots and challenge shots and run the floor. Like I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but I’m really excited about those two. It’s not getting ahead of yourself, but you but you see what the future and the vision is for this team, you know, as they develop. You can you can see that future. That’s that’s going to be a really good front court in the future if they develop into what you think they could be with Fleming with his with his length and athleticism, his ability to shoot and with mile watch being an anchor and if he can develop some sort of shot, bro, that’s going to be an issue. And you know, if they see Jaylen Green and Booker as your future backcourt, you know what I mean? Like that’s going to be deadly in about two to three years. and that’s what they hope to see. And so, yeah, dude, there’s you you have reason to be excited because that just shows you the the potential of what the future of this Phoenix Suns can and should be um in a few years. And so, yeah, I’m right with you. Just seeing those two working together was great to see. Guys, this video is brought to you by FanDuel. If you had taken Sundo’s word for it during our last live stream, he told you to take the Suns at minus three and a half verse the Brooklyn Nets in China, you would have won. But don’t worry, there is still plenty of time to get in on some Suns betting action. Starting with this first game of the season versus Sacramento Kings. Right now, the Suns are favored by a point and a half. Sundo and I both think you should take that as our confidence has been starting to grow about these Phoenix Suns. Download the FanDuel app or check out their sportsbook online at sportsbook.fanuel.com. The only real downside that I can think of for this game is the turnover situation. I’ve mentioned it before really the only problem I have with Devin Booker being a full-time point guard is it’s not exactly what he’s best at. Turnovers do happen when he gets doubled sometimes. And I think it just kind of diminishes what he can be a little bit. And it’s not just Devin Booker. This team has been dealing with turnover issues for the last three years really. This morning they had 21 turnovers. It’s just not good enough. You can’t win games that way. Now, they did force 32 turnovers, so that’s nice. That at least the team’s out there seriously playing defense to do that. They got it together towards the end of the game, but that’s not going to work this season. It’s just not. Yeah, the the Nets I think the Nets did a really good job at defending Booker and your ball handlers very well and forced them to make a decision to put the ball in other people’s hands. And I think one I think that goes away a bit when Jaylen Green comes back. So, let’s not over uh let’s not overreact to these first two games because we are missing Jaylen Green. So, I do think him coming back will help those issues in the ball handling for sure. So, let’s let’s let’s just pump the brakes until he comes back. But, it is a problem the way they they did they did guard Booker Goose and the other point guards where off off the pick and roll they just decided, hey, we’re hedging and doubling. Go ahead and give that ball to your big men and see what happens. And they didn’t give anybody else the ability to make plays. I could see that being a problem moving forward if teams decide to do that. But again, the key here is Jaylen Green. If he’s back, he does completely change the way they have to guard the entire team as far as having two dudes who can who can handle the ball, two people who can attack the basket. You can’t just hedge and double like that. So, there is that. Also, there help is on the way, I’m trying to say. But it still can be a

  1. Glad suns got the win and Khaman Maluach and Rasheer Fleming there so important for defense and hight still waiting to see Koby Brea though I hope they give him a shot. There going to be our future. No shade but I already like Maluach better then ayton I think he going to develop to be something special he so young.

  2. Bruh they dirty for doing that I thought I was bugging, and, it was an ugly win but hey no Jalen green no mark williams and early ass morning game as well practically, Jordan Goodwin had a solid 2nd half

  3. Butler and Goodwin probably won’t be in normal rotation and they had 6 of those turnovers. The others including Maluach had 14. So that’s not as bad. Starters only had like 10.

  4. Booker makes too many TOs nothing new. The year they lost the Finals he commited the worst TO. I like Dbook i wanted him to be the best but hes mediocre. His lenght is mediocre, speed, quickness, ball handling, explosiveness. Rarely can score taking to the basket when theres a good defender just does not get high enough or has the lengh. Hes a streaky shooter whos just average as a three point shooter. Jalen Green should help but they will need another go to guy to make any real moves

  5. 4 stocks in 15 minutes with a decent showcasing of the ability to hit 3s. Need max fleming play time immediately, he definitely looks like he can be my pre draft comp of Jaden Mcdaniels with Naz reid floor stretching

  6. I need to know if Maluach, Fleming, Oso, and Williams can all coexist in a rotation. In my wild dreams it would be an elite front court rotation. Especially with the defensive wings we can run out there!

  7. Good comeback win, terrible start but I knew if we just hung around long enough we could make it a closer game and eventually take the lead, needed OT to finish it off, but the job got finished GO SUNS

  8. We have so many promising players, finding mins for them will be a challenge this year.
It's good that the game was close and overtime is just extra practice at this point.

  9. This kind of win can do wonders for a team like the Suns trying to find its footing right before season tip-off…Guys like Jalen Green and Mark Williams didn't even play and when they finally do play, this Suns team will be scary!

  10. Hopefully it gets better but I feel like Maluach needs a true point guard on this team to get the best out of him currently. He’s a pick and roll lob threat and nobody can find him as of now. Hopefully they can maybe get him some look when the season starts
