Dropped the catch but got a double play 😮

[Applause] And Muny skies one to center field. Hit well. This one’s got a chance. Freelick going back to the wall. He leaps. It’s in and out of his glove, but he caught it. And now chaos on the bases. Might have a play at the plate. The throw. Not in time. Now he’s out. He’s out. It’s a force play at the plate. It’s going to be a force play. It’s no catch. He hits the wall off his glove and now it’s a force play at home. Let’s see. And the throw beat him. So you’re going to have bases loaded in two outs. Three outs cuz ran the third. He ran the third.

One of the craziest double plays of all time in Game 1 of Brewers vs. Dodgers NLCS

  1. Am i crazy or doesnt it count as a hr still because the wall ahs the yellow line? I thought top of tue wall was in play ubless they chose to add a yellow line which counts as out of play aka hr

  2. No catch, force out at home for 1st out and video stopped before catcher also stepped on 3rd base for another force out completing double play (I have to assume?)

  3. No, catching a ball that bounces off a wall is not an out; it is considered a live ball in play. The wall is treated as an extension of the ground, so the ball is no longer considered "in flight" after it hits the wall and therefore cannot be caught for an out

  4. So the Brewers catcher after he caught the force out at home, ran over and tagged 3rd base for another force out?…This play still has me a bit confused, since they didn't show the catcher stepping on 3rd base.

  5. The ball hit the wall so there was no catch, therefore it’s a live ball. CF throws it to home to get the force out, then 3rd base is tagged to get the runner on 2nd out

  6. I can't tell for sure. Is there space for the ball to go over the wall? If so, what is the point of having a yellow stripe in the first place? If there is no space for the ball to go over, then shouldn't it have been a home run, since the ball hit the yellow stripe after it popped out of his glove?

  7. You will never get a heads up play by Teoscar Hernandez or any smart play involving thought. Everyone on the Brewers saw and knew what was happening except Teoscar who actually went back to tag third when he didn't have to.

  8. I don't think Teo realized it bounced off the wall before going back into his glove. But he needs to know the rule once the player makes contact with the ball he can tag up. But it's all right we still got the win. But that could have costed us at the end.. Let's go Dodgers

  9. I thought the Dodgers was going to lose this because of the Grandslam to Double Play bad call. Snell's pitching kept them in the game. Ohtani, contributed just by being Ohtani. Even a slumping Ohtani yielded a couple of IBB. Amazing. 😂

  10. After the review the umpire should have corrected the call to a base hit and then squeezed in a run.
The base umpire obviously biased to the home team in many ways!

  11. Its unbelievable that major leaguers are this stupid. What was Hernandez doing at third? All he had to do was tag up and act like the ball was caught and even if you arent sure if he caught it you are good either way. He should have scored easy. As for the other 2 runners I can see them being at least a little confused but they should be watching the umpires making a ruling on the catch in live time. Hernandez though is an idiot for getting gunned down at home…And wheres the overhead view of this so we can see what everyone was doing during the play. The camera work here is a joke. Surely theres other replays of this whole play that will come out for us to see it from other angles.

  12. Some confusion in the yellow line rule. But the actual rule is in Milwaukee and several stadiums. If the ball it's the yellow line "while in flight" it's a home run. Once the player touched it the rule doesn't apply.

  13. So let's say the ball hits the glove and goes over the wall then is it a home run? Which mean if it hits his glove then hits the yellow line that should be a home run?

  14. lucky play for brewers and unlucky for dodgers BUT the better team won. brewers aren’t good, just a scrappy team. they will get 1 game but too much firepower for the dodgers. blake snell went 8 inning and allowed 1 hit….that sets the dodgers up great for the rest of the series and they have 3 starting pitchers that can go deep into games. the brewers have 1 and he is not as good as any of the 3 the dodgers have.

  15. Brewers got very lucky there. If there was two outs.. At least one run would have scored. If he had caught the ball cleanly.. A run would have scored. A few more inches and grand slam.
