Ponce is from socal (Pomona) and had a dominating season in the KBO.

"They also have interest in Cody Ponce, a 31-year-old right-hander and former Pittsburgh Pirates prospect who pitched in Japan for three seasons and then reinvented himself with Hanwha in the KBO this past season. Ponce’s split-change and fastball combination made him nearly untouchable in Korea while posting a 1.85 ERA and striking out 242 in 174 2/3 innings."

  1. lmao i went to college with cody! great pitcher … in division ii baseball.

  2. I also read, “Giants predicted to pursue $14 million 3 time All Star to replace Wilmer Flores”. (Arraez).

But I can’t find any news that Wilmer is actually gone. Any one else know?

  3. Ponce would almost certainly require a guaranteed MLB deal to sign. I don’t think he’d be guaranteed a rotation spot depending on how the offseason unfolds.

Would he be an upgrade over Brubaker, Seymour or Beck in the long relief role?

  4. I just don’t see the KBO as a good reference point for talent. Almost every player from there hasn’t panned out the way all of us thought. We know Jung Ho has the potential, but it’s been a slow firework burning with him just waiting to light up, but hasn’t reached it yet.
