Reviewing Blackhawks vs Panthers October 7th Game
Welcome back. All right, first of three reviews tonight and it is Chicago, it is Florida. The expectations for this these teams very very different. Uh that being said, you can tell that Florida’s without Barov, they’re without uh Kachchuck, and they’re they’re adapting. So this was Spencer Knight at one end, Sergey Babsky at the other. So Spencer Knight, who was a backup to Babsky at one time, trying to one up the guy that that he was the backup for. And I I thought Spencer Knight had a fantastic game tonight. So, uh, the banner raising of course happens before the game. A big moment for Florida winning backto-back Stanley Cups. If you made a drinking game out of the number of times they mentioned Florida trying to go for three in a row, you’re not watching this video. You’re at the hospital. Uh, so an early Marshon chance is fired wide. The teams trade turnovers. Uh, Samus Scgavic has a rush chance that’s blocked out. Forsling has a one-time that’s held as the Panthers are building some early momentum in this game. Totally unsurprising that they would do so. Uh crossbar and out for Bard on a rush. Baddard had a very good game. Did not record a point. So that’s what people will focus on. But I thought Bard played a good game and again that was off the crossbar and out just couple inches another way and it’s a goal and we’re talking about that. Uh Eklad as a one-time that’s caught and held. Uh Knight I feel like is going to see a lot of pucks this season just early on. It’s not just not just that he’s going to see a lot of shots. It’s the quality. Like Chicago’s got to get better at preventing some of the plays that that Florida was able to get going tonight. So, um, Bennett has a twoon-one chance he’s denied there. The Florida forch check leads to some pressure at 4 and a half minutes, although the forche wasn’t as prominent tonight as it usually is during the season. Shots are 4 to2 for the Panthers at 6 minutes. Panthers draw a power play. It’s Lev to the box. Now, only noteworthy because that is the first penalty of the season. So, Lev Shinov on pace for a lot of penalty minutes because we’ve only played one game so far. Um, so yeah, Levinov to the box. Marshon’s denied. The rebounds cleared. That power plays killed off. It did manage three shots. It did test Spencer Knight. Spencer Knight passed the tests. Florida presses at 9 and 1/2 minutes and it was really all Florida until uh at 10:03. Nazar wires one on a breakaway completely against the flow of play here. Nazar with the goal from Berusi and Terra Vinan. It’s one- nothing Chicago. Now Florida would press to respond and they do. At 11:06, Greer buries a rebound from the doorstep. Gajuic and Forsling with the assists. So 1-1 tie there. Uh Florida Panthers on the board. And normally bottom six guys for Florida, they’re going to be prominent while the big guys are out for for the Panthers. Uh they’re going to have to step up their production and based on tonight, maybe they’re going to be able to get that done. Uh Bard fires one wide on a rush. The Panthers press. They draw their second power play. And it’s Lebanon to the box. He has four penalty minutes in one game. So four times 82 equals he’s on pace for over 300 penalty minutes this year. I don’t think he gets there. I think it would be hilarious if a guy got 300 penalty minutes and they were all minors. I think that would be funny. But anyways, uh getting getting away from the point here. Um so Maron as a backhander that’s held in a 1407 Verhagy gives Florida the 2 to1 lead on the power play. Rof’s one far corner from in close. Uh Samoscavich with the only assist there. So it’s two to one in favor of the Panthers. Panthers pressed for another. Bennett’s denied on a twoon-one rush. Uh Felino then had a fight with Greer. I thought both of them uh accounted for themselves pretty well there. I think Felino kind of won that fight just a little bit. Uh Bard has a net drive that nearly ties it. There’s a post for Lindell in a last minute fast break, but it’s two to1 for Florida after one. So with Felino fighting G, does that mean that like Tampa gives Felo like 50 bucks or you know some kind of coupon for anyways uh so two to one Florida after one second period McKay tonight on a breakaway and then at 107 Terrain scores on a rush uh Babski nearly had this but the game is tied at two. The assist Nazar and Bertusi so those three players all get two points tonight and I think Nazar had a really strong game so keep an eye on him this season. I know there was a lot of people in the offseason that were just jaw-dropping over how much money he’s getting in terms of cap hit. I understand it. I get it. I think he’s really really going to be a good forward and today’s game tells you Chicago might be right on this one. Understanding it’s far too early in the season. Uh the Hawks get a power play. Reinhardt then takes a puck to the face. He heads off for for some stitches. Uh the Panthers do kill it off. The Hawks didn’t gain any momentum there. So they had that power play with a chance to get the lead. It just does not happen. Chicago press is at four and a half minutes. Rodriguez is down. He needs help exiting. Uh he took a a puck to the I think it was the back of the leg where you don’t have as much padding so he had to go out and walk that one off. Um Verhiggy has a net drive chance that’s held. The Hawks press at 6 and 1/2 minutes. Kaiser has a wrist that’s held. And this is right where Rodriguez comes back into the game. Things get pushy on a hold by Babski. Not a lot of that tonight. Uh it is the first game of the regular season. Chicago and Florida don’t have a blood feud, so there wasn’t really much to report on that uh that front today. Grizzlick has a turnover chance that’s blocked. The Hawks go back to the power play. There’s a near miss short-handed by Luke Cunnan. Power plays killed off just the one shot on net again. The power play for Chicago not benefiting them yet, but it was a strong power play last year. It’s just the first of 82 games. I’m sure it will be fine. Uh Jones has a one time that’s held as the Panthers get some pressure. Of course, Jones against his former team here. Reinhardt returns, got stitches. Uh, so he would he would be back in the game. Uh, Donado has a rush chance this blocker to side. The Hawks press with five minutes left. Verhaggy is robbed on a net drive. Uh, Bard couldn’t fool Babski on a rush. Very close, but yeah, Babski gets him. Uh, then things get pushy with Greer down with 207 left. There wasn’t a penalty on the play. I think it was Levinov in front of the net, too. They they could have called that. I don’t know that the referee didn’t see it, but it did look kind of like a trip. Uh teams trade threeon- two rushes in the final minute. It is 2-2 after two. And I thought, hey, you know, Chicago tied in Florida going into the third period, even with the high-profile players that are injured for the Florida Panthers. I I thought that was a really strong performance thus far by Chicago. Third period, uh early jump for the Blackhawks. Kulakov’s then denied as the Panthers. Forche starts getting things going. Uh, Bennett has a chance that’s blocked by Renzel. Uh, Cunnan has a twoon-one chances blocker to side. Dickinson then has a rush chance that’s saved. Uh, Nazar’s net drive chance is blocked. Uh, we get power play number three for the Hawks, which leads to a lot of booing from Florida fans because, as is well known around the NHL, officials just hate Florida. Um, so I’m kidding. Short-handed Marshon Rush is saved. Uh, Lindell takes a puck to the face. He’s okay cuz the visor caught it. Like if he wasn’t wearing a visor that would have been worse. So whenever people talk about, oh yeah, I don’t need visors. Who needs visors? Yeah, visors are necessary. Uh the Panthers do kill that off. And again, the Chicago power play just not given much of a chance to get anything going uh in this game. Shots are 3 to2 Florida at 9 minutes. And at 940, Boowquist bats one out of the air on a cross crease pass. the assist to Sam Muscavic and uh Rodriguez. So Samuscich with a couple helpers. He did well if you’ve got him in fantasy. Uh then there’s a near miss for Verhi on a net drive. So Florida now with the lead 3 to2. They’re at home. Uh they’re they’re skating downhill at this point. Uh Mika has a wrister that’s caught and held, meaning that Chicago skating uphill at that point. So Mik has his wrister caught and held. Forsling has a net feed that’s picked off. The Hawks rush. Cunnan has a threeon two chance that’s held. Hawks press with 5 and 1/2 minutes left in the game. Marshon has an end to end rush chance as hell. I thought that was going in. I was really surprised that Knight was able to get that, but he did. Hawks press with four minutes left. The Panthers dangerous in transition. Reinhardt’s denied for the slot and the Panthers did a good job in the closing minutes of preventing Chicago pulling the goalender. Spencer Knight was visibly frustrated. He wanted to come off. He was waving to the bench, but I will agree with Jeff Blashel on this. There wasn’t really an opportunity before they pulled him to get him out of the net where you wouldn’t be sure there’s going to be an empty net right away. So, the Hawks call a timeout with 108 left. They would pull the goalie with 50 seconds left. Whatever they discuss, whatever they come up with does not work. Florida wins their home opener 3 to2. So, they’re 1 and0 on the season. Chicago drops to 0 and one. I won’t be doing the the standings for uh the NHL after every video tonight. Uh the standings board will make its debut. So I figure Thursday night’s a good time for that to make its debut. Uh so shots on net 17-3 Florida in the first, 119 Chicago in the second and then 116 Florida in the third. Once Chicago got their feet under them in that second period, it was a much closer game. Final shots 37 to 20 for the Panthers. Power plays 0 for three for Chicago, 1 for2 for Florida. That’s the difference. Uh the hits 29 to 27 for Florida. Knight saved 34 out of 37. I thought he played great. I did. I thought Spencer Knight played really well. If you’re a Hawks fan, there’s a lot of positives you can take out of this game. If you’re a Florida fan, you can also take a lot of positives out of this game as well. So, everybody should be happy. Babsky, 18 saves on 20 shots. And uh yeah, strong first game of the season. Now, I’m watching Pittsburgh Rangers, of course, and to close out the night, it’ll be Colorado LA. So, look forward to those other two reviews later on tonight. For now, I’m done. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. As always, hit like and subscribe in the event you may not have done so already. Thank you guys so much for all your support. As always, I will talk to you again soon.
That’s the first of three reviews tonight.

Good aggressive game. Took a nap and watched the last minute of the NYR playing terrible against Pitt. Lets go Avs beat the Kings!
Levshunov is a terd 🙄
bedard pointless again. glad the person in my fantasy draft took him before me, and I even got nazar as a free agent!
One word can be used to describe this game for Chicago: Sloppy.
Bobs retiring on 3 cups in a row is something I can cheer for when my team is out.
Canucks best goalie in Pittsburgh
Hockey is back baby!
Not to put too fine a point in it, but at 24, Vlasic would have been the second oldest D man on the ice for Chicago (by two years) had he been available. And as long as you’re mentioning injuries, hard working forward Landon Slaggart was also out.
Just about the time Florida is aging out, the Hawks will be coming into their prime.
I gotta say whoever is in charge of getting the games on TV in Chicago should be fired. I went to sign up for CHSN direct streaming as I don’t have any of the services that carry the games and I discover that it won’t work with 99% of the smart TVs out there. Now the only games I’ll see are those on ESPN (through Disney).
Brilliant.
I thought that a player could not be on the ice if he was bleeding, but Reinhart played much of the third period with blood running down his face……………………….
I was at the game 😊
Let’s go Cats!!!
I was working until 10 PM tonight so didn't get to see it. Going to watch the highlights shortly. Glad that Knight had a good game. I am still hoping he has a great career, lots of upside on him. This Hawks team will give him a hell of a work out. I am still nervous about how this team will hold up all season long. That roster wasn't looking all that fancy tonight, but hey so far they are undefeated. Already saw the box score for the Rangers/Pens, Silovs with the shut out. Out Vancouver, ouch.
gg
This was always going to be a hard one for the Blackhawks but they made the Panthers work for it and hopefully they take away that they were able to keep it a close game with the stanley cup champions.
We're so effin back.
Tampa rewarding Foglino with a $50 coupon – that's the sort of analysis we can't get elsewhere!
Panthers are ready. Looking great.😻
Happy that the Hawks were at least competitive! 2nd line was excellent, can’t wait to watch Nazar every game this season 😁 Hockey is back, excellent video as always Shannon, hope you and your family are doing better ❤️
I wonder who helped develop Spencer Knight, he’s really good. On a serious note, it was bittersweet watching Knight on the other side of the ice after the cup banner was lifted.
300 penalty minutes is less than Florida and Syracuse managed in one pre season game.
The mantra out of chicago is "theyre young, new coach new systems, give it til March to figure it out…"
Give it another 5 years to collect some talent realistically
This is awesome, i thought we were back tomorrow. I needed this after finding out work is cutting our hrs
300pims all minors would be crazy, chicago is bad enough and there is mckenna so yeah i wouldnt bench him either 😂😂😂
Thank you Shannon for allowing this third shifter to still follow hockey
I wasn't familiar about Rinzel before, but he seems to be track on to become next Dougie Hamilton or Jeff Petry. Interesting guy…
Spencer Knight had an amazing game. It should’ve been 8 to 2 Let’s go Panthers
The shot that hit the visor was loud too, you could hear the crack of the plastic as the puck deflected up into it. Anyone who wants caveman hockey without all the equipment added over the past 30-40 years should go out there and play it then.
I am 1-0 in predictions this year. On pace for an incredible 1,312-0 record!
I don't see the Hawks as contenders by any means but if tonight's and indication the rebuild is starting to pay off
Hockey is back! Let’s go Panthers!!!!
Nazar is about to have a big year
As a panthers fan. The hawks played really well the panthers were clearly the better team but 2 time Stanley cup champs you expect that kinda funny the game that looked like the clear blow out of the night was the closest and most entertaining of the night better then the 2 other blow outs
Nazar contract I looking genius right now
Its hilarious listening to TJ Oshie as a media person now, commenting in that same media-friendly hockey answer cadence as a hockey olayer giving a locker room interview. 😂
Kitty go meow.
Now that I've got that out of the way, Chicago looks like this could finally be the year of taking strides forward. A lot of good veteran plays, and it might also be that they have an experienced head coach with Blashill now. Also, love the jersey, Shannon. Is that a CCM one?
Hawks might not win many more games this year but i think they’ll be a much more entertaining team.
Man bedsey had some sick shots last night
blackhawks already look better than last year IMO. made it interesting against the cup champs. both guys that got big extensions were the highlights. not much to pout about as a Hawks fan
9:20 “Everybody should be happy.“ 🙂
But I’m not happy THG! My team lost. And frankly I can’t be bothered to have a calm and objective discussion about it. My feels ain’t feeling that.
Worked out the math, The Panthers have a 0.000000000000000000000000207% chance of going 82-0.
Knight is going to do big things as the Hawks rebuild. Without him I think this game could have gotten pretty ugly. New Cats look like they are still figuring it out but I expect the team to get things nailed down pretty quick.
As a chi fan, I dont have any absurd expectations for this team. I will say that this game gave me faith in what KD is building, very excited for the future! Thanks for the vid!
I was at the game and I gotta say Nazar is a beast
First Season actually watching Ice Hockey excited to see what happens with my Chicago Blackhawks but not a bad start to the year for the blackhawks.
Barkov without sticks less than week from the surgery is a planned message. Might have been some mech support and meds to get him there.
I still miss Knight in Sunrise. I wish him all success. Also, my boy Mackie had a great night.
It's worth noting Chicago didn't have Vlasic for this game. Even though he's one guy, he improves the defense a ton
