Yankees vs Blue Jays ALDS Game 4 Post Game Interviews: Toronto to ALCS!
Start with Meredith against the wall on your right, Aaron. Aaron, you had made the comment before the postseason started that you thought this was the most talented roster you had ever had here as the manager. Ultimately, why do you think you guys weren’t able to get it done this postseason? Yeah. Um, the ending is the worst, right? Um, especially when you when you know you have a really good group and a group of guys that really came together so well um, you know, at the right time. you know, the final couple of months, you know, this was a team and it’s a team that played for one another, did a lot of really good things, and we got beat here. You know, credit to, you know, the Blue Jays and and the year they’ve had and and you know, they they beat us this series. Simple as that. And um you know, it doesn’t doesn’t make it any easier. Um you know, it’s a beat up room in there. um you know that they’re still sharing with one another. Um you know I felt like I come come out and owe you guys this but know that you know the guys are in there still sharing with one another because they they truly became a really close close team and uh and a really good team. Um, and it’s it’s the awful part of this is the journey you go on that and this has been a tough year for me personally. Um, you know, but all you go through to kind of become this kind of team you think can really do something special and for it to abruptly end is is is always difficult. Um, you know, and you just, you know, it it’s a beautiful game that so many of us and you guys here and um, you know, certainly within our organization, every organization pours so much into to to go on this long journey to have a chance to chase a chase a dream and win a championship. And when it when it ends this way, it’s it’s always you know, it’s terrible. It it’s it’s it’s it hurts. Um, but I know for me personally, I know for a lot of those guys, it also continues to ignite your fire to want to get back and play in these meaningful games and and have a chance at at glory. So, um, I thank you guys that cover us all the time and are here and and again, I want to congratulate the Blue Jays and their organization. They they have they’ve had a terrific team, terrific year and have built a built an outstanding team and and uh you know, credit to John and and those guys. They’ve you know, they they took it to us this series. Erin, you look at tonight in particular, the offense did have quite a few opportunities to to get that big hit. What was their staff doing that just did not allow you guys to come through in those situations? Yeah, I mean, look, anytime you’re in a bullpen game, you know, obviously it doesn’t always work, but but it can be really effective because, you know, you usually build the lineup to go face another starting pitcher. they’re bringing in people to face your lineup, you know, so you’re getting guys and and they have obviously a number of talented guys that, you know, pitched effectively and um, you know, were able to, you know, hold us down enough and and when we did have some opportunities, we’re able to thwart it enough and and um, so just obviously not our night. Go to Brendan on your right. Uh what was your view on the Jazz uh ball where he uh kicked it off his glove? Yeah, just uh you know, ball hit sharply. Um but you know, one one he’s going to turn all the time. And uh just coming off of last night, the the emotion from from yesterday, did you feel some kind of carryover with this team? Do you think that there might have been um I don’t know uh coming out a little bit flat considering how how heavy things were yesterday? No, I I I felt kind of the opposite. Um, but you know, you don’t play, you know, you don’t win games on emotion all the time. It’s it’s about, you know, execution and and, you know, they were they were better than us tonight and in this series. Just move a few folks down to Joel. Aaron, two things are possible. You describe this as an awful year for me. Why? I did I say awful year for me? Tough year. Hard year. Yeah. I’m sorry. Yeah. Yeah. Just a hard year. I mean, there was just some tough moments and um you know, but but also like in a lot of ways very rewarding to go go through some of the some of the moments we went through, you know, in the middle of the season especially. Um you know, and to see this kind of team come together in a really special way. I mean, this that is a tight-knit and and and I feel like we got so much better in the final couple months of the season. So, so it was more a very tough year on me. That’s all. And it’s not about me, but that’s all I was saying. And but also very rewarding to go through and see what these guys became. The other thing is does you you have had to kind of give a version of this press conference a lot during your time here. Does it does your belief system that things will change take a dent at all and that that you guys will eventually break through this? Oh, no. I’m confident we’ll break through. I have been every year. Um, and I believe in so many of the people in that room. So, um, that hasn’t changed. Um, the fire hasn’t changed. Um, it’s hard to win the World Series, you know. So, um, been chasing it all my life. Second row your left, Aaron. Ron, what do you say to Aaron after a year like this where he has one of the great offensive seasons in baseball history is always optimistic the team will get there yet in the end just keeps coming up as a team without the title. That’s sports does doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen and and he and I wholeheartedly believe that it will. So, you know, again, you keep working your tail off to get back to this position and and punch through. And do you find it at some level hard to believe with 10 years of the type of numbers he’s putting up that the breakthrough hasn’t happened? I don’t know. again uh I don’t take anything for granted in this game and being in it my whole life I know how hard it is to to win in the end and um you know so I have too much respect for the for the sport and the competition of it um you know for that go to Chris right in front of you Ron Tren and Cody were obviously huge for you Trent and Cody were obviously huge for all year. They’re obviously free agents now. I understand the season just ended, but what is your hope with what happens with them and the organization in the offseason? Yeah. I mean, yeah, I don’t know. I mean, that’s that’s for another day. The the thing I’ll say about them is, you know, they’re a big reason why, you know, I was so excited about this club down the stretch and and and at this point and just really proud of who those guys were um and are and who what they became as players, as driving forces for our team. But in those two cases, the two people those guys are in the room every single day and and what they brought to the table as teammates every single day, you know, I appreciate that and I uh grateful to uh to get to have managed those two guys and you know, who knows? Hopefully in you know, hopefully in both cases I get to keep doing it. Second row on your right, Peter. Um what did you think of Schlitler tonight? And maybe more big picture, just how did this postseason run, how can that be foundational, I guess, going into next year with him? Yeah, I thought Schlit was good tonight. Um, you know, didn’t have the dominant swing and miss stuff, but I thought pitched really effectively. Um, was filling up the strike zone. Um, I thought made a lot of key pitches when he needed to. uh mixed well, you know, gives up a run in the first inning, but doesn’t flinch and I thought was really efficient with with obviously a good offensive club. So, I I I thought he I thought he threw the ball really well tonight. You know, not the dominant one that he came off of, but he gave us a really good chance to win a baseball game. And then uh as far as foundationally like obviously I think we’re we all understand how excited we are about Cam and and his future and you know what he could become in our rotation moving forward. So um you know he he had a phenomenal season and um and and finished strong tonight. Uh the row behind you Peter Julian Aaron just defensively what do you think sort of plagued you guys this year? what he could become. Well, I mean I mean I think that’s part of what I’ve been talking about the last couple months. Like I think we’re at this point a really good defensive team. Um and became that and we had to go through some tough moments in the middle of the season, you know, and you know, but came out of it and became a really good and well-rounded club. Um you know that’s why that’s why this hurts in the end. standing on your right, Ian. Uh Aaron, you saw last year firsthand what it took to win the World Series because you were in it. How much is what you’re feeling now connected to the fact that you didn’t get a chance to get back and apply those lessons in in the World Series? Yeah, I mean maybe um maybe in some way that’s part of it. Another part of it again is what I feel about this group and uh you know where we’re at as a club and just you know what I believed was a realistic shot to get back there and win this thing. Um again as much as any team I felt like that I’ve had to this point you know I felt like you know this was a group that could make a real run at it especially being you know as healthy as we were at this time of the year. fourth row on your left. Aaron, Aaron, what did you feel was the biggest difference as to why the Blue Jays were able to win the series? Look, look, obviously they were able in the first few games um you know to get to our starters and and put up a lot of runs against us. You know, we we didn’t hold them down well enough in the first few games. you know, Cam goes out and throws really well tonight and then um you know, they were able to to add a couple across there late, but we didn’t, you know, we didn’t control them offensively enough, um you know, to win big in this series. Couple last ones for Aaron. Jay, we’ll get you the mic. Aaron, what did you see on the Chisum error play from your vantage point? Yeah, he missed just missed it. Just kicked off. Sharply hit ball, but a but a one hopper. One he’s going to turn all the time and just looked like it skipped off his glove. Other questions? Yeah, Jake, you mentioned you said earlier kind of it’s sports. I I imagine that’s in some ways alluding to the randomness of it and and the way that the postseason is is a roulette wheel. How do you kind of wrangle with that that it is such a small sample when you you’re whether or not the best team always wins, you’re you’re presented with a a very small amount of games in order to win. That’s that’s that’s part of the beauty of it. That’s I mean that’s the competition of it. That’s the high stakes nature of it. And that’s why playoff baseball is is awesome. you know, I mean, you know, you watch even these other games that you’re kind of watching and paying attention to, like the the the importance and the intensity of every single pitch is just it’s awesome and and it’s what, you know, I think a lot of us sign up for and play for and so that’s just part of it. And, you know, it doesn’t mean it’s always kind. We’ll go to Joel who’s on the right. Erin, I’m I’m sorry on it, but it becomes a subject every year. Do you have any reason to think you won’t be back managing the team next year? No, I’m I’m under contract, so no, I’m I don’t expect anything. Yeah. Anything else for Aaron? All right, Aaron, thank you so much. Appreciate your time. Uh John Schneider should be here momentarily. Hey, John. Thank you very much. Thank you. All right, we’ll get started with the manager of the Blue Jays, John. Congratulations. Who’s up first for John? We’ll start with Mitch and then Gregor. Uh the fourth row on your left. Gotcha. Microphone. There we go. Perfect. John, why do you think your team’s now going to the ALCS? Um I think because they’re a really close group. I I think they’re talented and um we had some big big name guys do some big things and um we had some guys that have been doing it all year do some things that they normally are are pretty good at. So um it’s a really close group and if I’ve said it to you guys once, I’ve said it a million times, they’re really good at turning the page to the next thing that’s important. So um just happy for everyone that was involved and kind of fitting that it took everyone to win today. What does this mean for you and your family? Man, you make me cry. Um, you know, it it’s really satisfying. Um, this job is hard, this season is hard. Um, decisions are hard, sacrifices are hard that you make um and that they make uh for me. So, to have them here um is really really uh fulfilling. And um I always say that you know any success that this team or not not me this team has um Jess and Gunnar and Grayson have have a part of it because they allow me to do what I do. We’ll go to the first row and your left shines. Coach, first and foremost, congratulations. Thank you. Um in a game like this, there’s a lot of motion involved. How was you able to control the emotion and and the flow of the game? Because you’re losing and winning, you can get off skilled. Yeah, there’s a lot of moving parts, you know what I mean? And you know, this team is never going to go quietly. Um I think it was nice to get out to a lead in the first and um you know, even when McMahon hit the home run, you know, you’re you still feel pretty good about how it was going to line up, but the guys went out and did it, you know what I mean? and you know, huge bat from George. You know, couldn’t be happier for Nathan Lucas with the series that he had and the season that he’s had really. Um, so I think more so than anything, they do a really good job of managing themselves. You know, it’s a unbelievable cast of characters in there that can keep a group levelheaded or get a group going if you need to. So, you know, a lot if not all the credit goes to the players. Fourth row on your left, Gregor. John, all season you guys have been talking about the next man up approach. And so how fitting is it that you guys close this out on a on a bullpen day in particular where you had eight guys come in and really contribute? Uh very fitting. You know, I I think I think I said it a few times in the clubhouse. You know, I think the baseball world as a whole looked at, you know, a bullpen game versus um CAM as kind of a no contest, you know, and um we view it as an opportunity to do what we’re good at, you know. Um, so to have basically almost every pitcher contribute and to have um some prominent names contribute and some guys that have been doing it all year, you know, Barge with three hits and Miles with an add-on run and Liy with a big hit. Um, it’s just very fitting. It kind of sums up the the 25 Blue Jays. Go to Keegan on the left. John, this seemed like a game where you and Pete probably had to make more decisions than average. Uh, how how would this standing next to Pete all day compare to like a Tuesday in May? Completely different. Um, if people knew the work that went into it, you know, it it’s stressful. You know, we started talking at 1:00 this afternoon and um, I give so much credit to Pete and to Graham Johnson and to Sam Green and Luke Hoey um, for kind of working together to kind of figure this out, right? So my job is to try to put them in the right spots. Um their job is to go execute, which they all did, you know. So you can have a plan, you can have a script, you know, whatever. It’s it is what it is, but the players have to go do it. Um but yeah, today, you know, it was pretty gratifying, you know, standing next to Pete, who I’ve known and and loved for a lot of years. even when I wasn’t in the big leagues, when I was in the minor leagues, he’s treated me like like a brother, you know, so to kind of react in real time and, you know, I I think that we’ve gotten a lot better at having a plan, reading the room, um reading the feel of the game and and making decisions. So, um it was pretty fulfilling today to have Pete there. I know that if you could just get a complete game shutout, that’s cool, too. But is a is a game like this fun for you? You’ve kind of got your foot on the gas, hand on the wheel the whole time. Yeah, you know, I I I texted those guys I just mentioned this morning and just said like this is an opportunity to have some fun, you know, um which I really meant. You know, it it seems uncomfortable as hell, but I I really meant it. And it’s easy to say, okay, you know, we we blew a lead yesterday and we’re walking into this today, but um I think that we really kind of felt it, you know, um fun right now. Yeah. Um, from 1:00 till 10:00 debacle, you know, it’s it’s a lot, you know what I mean? Um, I shouldn’t say debacle, but there’s just a lot of moving parts. So, um, just glad that the guys did what they did. Secor, you’re right, Julian. John, what I believe you guys were 15 for 37 with runners in scoring position. Um, what just leads to you all such relentless at bats? You know, we we make a lot of contact. you know, that’s been evident throughout the year. And um again, I’m going to deflect credit to hitting coaches, you know, Pop and Lou and Hunter um for guys going up there with a plan. You know, I think kind of the epitome of it is Nathan Lucas facing Devin Williams knowing he’s probably going to get a fast ball, but Vlad sitting on deck and not being afraid to commit to it, you know, when his change up is his best pitch. So, I think guys have a plan when they go up there and we try to utilize everyone’s skill set to the best that we can and um it comes and it goes. You know, we’ve been pretty consistent over the year with with guys in square position, but um I just think kind of how we’re built helps that a lot too. Far back on your left, Ed. John, congratulations. Thank you. Is it uh much more difficult to manage a bullpen game than a game with a conventional starting pitcher? You know, I’ve thought about that quite a bit for the last couple years. Um, this answer may surprise you, but um, no, it it’s it’s almost harder to manage when you have veteran pitchers that you trust um, and that have been through it before and sometimes you push them too far to be honest with you. Um, so I think learning from past mistakes or successes, um, gets us a little better to navigate a game like today. Again, you’re kind of mapping out best possible scenarios. Um, and the guys have to go do their part. And, um, you know, it it’s I again, it’s not it’s not fun per se, but I think we view it as a good challenge. And, um, our guys have really kind of accepted that this year and done really well with it. And ultimately, what was the difference in you winning and the Yankees not winning? Um, I don’t know. I I think today, I mean, we got the big hit, you know, Luki got the big hit. Um, took advantage of of a miscue that they made, you know, much like they did to us yesterday, um, defensively. So, I think that was kind of the turning point. you know, we we put the ball in play when we needed to and um we struck guys out when we needed to, which is kind of, you know, what you’re shooting for. Did two more. Greg, up front on your left. Hey, John. Uh much like last week, now you guys get a break and your opponent will be going the distance again. How does that help you as you look forward? Yeah, uh it’s nice to take a deep breath. It’s it’s really nice to go home and know that we’re playing at home. Um, and it’s nice to kind of sort through what we think is the best way to try to beat whoever we’re going to play, you know. Um, allows some guys to hopefully get a little bit more healthy, allows some guys to get a little bit of rest, um, after what was a very emotional, hard-fought, you know, uh, four games against the Yankees. So, we’ll we’ll enjoy tonight and we’ll start figuring out, you know, the next series um, when we wake up. We’ll finish up with the last question. standing on your right. You talked about everybody making contributions on this team, but you got to talk a little bit about that bomb third of the lineup, particularly Ernie. He’s paying 643. Um I think Ernie Ernie Clement has kind of, you know, made everyone aware how good he is. Um it’s been like that the whole year from the bottom part of our lineup, you know, and it’s you try to you try to navigate it to where guys can put the ball in play, guys can get on base for guys at the top. Um they’ve been unbelievable all year. Ernie Ernie had an unbelievable first postseason series, you know, um for a guy that has been through it a little bit, you know. I I think he kind of epitomizes what we what we are um in terms of how we play. So thrilled for him. Um but the bottom part of our lineup has been relentless the the entire season. All right, Schneids, we’ll see you at the Roger Center. Thank you guys. Appreciate it. We’ll see you soon. Uh Vlad is on his way. He’ll be here in approximately two minutes. on his way. Do a little down. All right. That’s going to be Uh, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. should be here any second. It’s up to you. All right, Vlad, congratulations. Uh, who’s got the first question? Start with Mitch on your left, guys. Vlad Tito, congrats, guys. Um Vlad, what does this mean to you? mean means a lot to me. I mean, of course, that means uh we’re going to the next round with a championship series. And that’s uh that’s my focus and that means a lot. And you’ve been in this organization for so long. You’ve had stumbles in the playoffs before. What was the difference in this series you for you personally? But to be honest with you, the difference was that we won games. I mean I mean I’ve been in three already. uh we never had a chance to win uh a game and then now this year this time around we won the games and we won the series. Fifth row on your left guys. Keegan Vlatty these past uh four or five days are some of the best baseball we’ve ever seen you play. How does it feel for you to come up this big in this moment? I mean, it feels great. It feels great. It’s just I mean, like I say all the time, I mean, every time I I come here, I try to do my best uh to help my team win. I mean, put it all the work and and thank God, you know, this time and I had a great series and we won the series. Vlad, what is it about your team that gives you the most belief you can win the World Series? What do you like the most? To trust each other, trust each other. And wherever we go, one one guy go, everybody goes. They’re growing your right, guys. Toronto Blue Jays. basically what was the key for the entire team to get to this point to the key in there and uh if if you have any conversations uh uh with your dad if you did through the series I mean, since the getgo, I mean, we we we were together uh on this. I mean, yes. Yes, we we have a slow start at the beginning. Uh but then uh uh we we got together, we start winning games and and then and everything went well uh uh from there to this point. And then about my dad, he always told me that just in in series like this, just just try to get the first win. I mean that he believed that if you win the first game, the chances to win the the series are big. Up front on your left, guys. First and foremost, congratulation. Thank you. Um, after losing game three, what helped you guys lock in on game four to win the series? Well, first of all, I think it was the blessing of God. Uh I think that’s why we won the series. And then uh right after we lost uh uh last night, we all went to the clubhouse uh and that’s okay. No, no, no worries. Let’s flush this one and let’s come uh tomorrow and win the series. Standing out. You’re right, guys. Larry is getting to the ALCS kind of a chance to uh show off a team that sometimes gets overlooked. Fore speech. I mean, I I don’t see the way. I mean, we we we’ve been together on this. I mean, and then and maybe some people don’t don’t believe on in the team through the year, but uh uh I always remind everyone that we have an entire country behind us that believe in us and and then then hopefully we can get uh think the World Series back to Canada. Take two more. Eric, five back on your right. for you you have the chance to talk to your dad right after the game and and then what do you feel about I mean I mean you it’s basically two countries for you Canada Dominican Republic uh what do you feel about all that Yeah, definitely. I mean, feel very proud that the two countries uh uh I’m getting the support from both those countries, not just for me uh for the entire team and uh Oh, my dad. No, not any chance. I mean, my dad, I haven’t had the chance to to talk to him, of course, interview. So, but I I I’ll be calling him and we’ll finish up with Mitch on your left. Vlad, you said before that in the first day of spring training, you thought this team had a chance to do something like this. What was it about that day? What you saw that uh kind of gave you that feeling? forch. the effort, the effort that we all put together since uh first day in spring training. I mean, I give you a sample from from from the get-go. I mean, if we had to be there, for example, at 6:00 in the morning or 8:00 in the morning, you see guys coming in uh an hour or two before everything starts. If it was a early work, everybody was there. Uh if we we had to do extra work, everybody stayed there together. It was everybody was just together since since the first day. You could you could tell there something special was there. All right, Vlad, congratulations. We’ll see you at the ALCS. Hector, thank you so much. Appreciate it. Uh that’s a wrap in here. So uh we’ll see everybody in Toronto for the ALCS and thanks to the Blue Jays and the Yankees for a great series.

Fired tomorrow. Buck Martinez gets hired as Yankees new manager.
John Schneider…class act!
should've fired bone in July
you should be proud Boone to have done as well as you did against the best team in baseball
Should have taken that hoodie off for this one . "Built to fall" is more like it
Stfu Aaron. Nobody cares what you have to say.
This guy doesn’t translate properly.
Go Jays! 🍁💙🍁
So proud of the Blue Jays! What a team!!
Funny how well he talks but yet him and Atkins continue to do stupid shit. Awesome win and the players deserve every bit of credit as they have morons making crap decisions over and over again. Love my Jay's management not so much.. Cheers

Having a Yankee great as our Batting Coach helped! 😉
Buck Martinez is the 🐐 now 😂
Perhaps MLB teams might wanna mix in a little time on catching the baseball, instead of swinging for the fences and/or pitching it over 100 mph? These Yankees couldn't catch a cold or throw out the garbage…and it cost them for the 2nd year in a row.
Go Jays!
Watching from Tokyo, Japan. Great stuff!
The icing on the series decider was humiliating the yankees at home. There is a GOD .😅😅😅
John Schneider has faced a lot of criticism, but now he needs to be given all the props. He seems to be pulling all the right strings. Glad to see it. Go Jays!
1) Yankees by far NOT the most talented team!
2) They backed into the layoffs!
3) I'm glad they lost!
So happy to see 3 WELL DESERVING teams left,
Blue Jays
Mariners
Tigers, I like all 3 of these teams, so I'll be happy with whoever goes on to the World Series!!
DAAAAA YANKEES LOSE !!!!.
WAR BLUEJAYS!!!
Vlady time to work on your English! You’re a Canadian boy!!🎉
That was a very classy post game by Arron Boone.
5 guys on the Blue Jays lineup hitting at or above a .333 average. That's how they did it.
Every time a team wins a series it’s the same thing “Great group of guys”
Sacrifices? Lol puhleeeze….you throw and hit a ball.
Means zero. Adults acting like 5 year olds.
