Wins and losses will happen throughout a season regardless of how good or bad your team is. But throughout the season, these are the stats that really matter. The past 7 years we’ve been dramatically at the bottom of the list in these categories. So as long as we’re staying where we’re at in these categories for the rest of the year, we WILL have a good chance of being a playoff team. And yes I know it’s an extremely small sample size, but think of where these stats were 3 games into any of the last 7 season. We’re passing the eye test and the stats are proving it.

Need to improve that defense tho. We’re lacking in 1 or 2 solid top 4 D-men, but we gotta hope the young guys grow into that role throughout the season.
That matchup with the hurricanes on Thursday looks like it will be high scoring! So probably a 2-0 game.
Also, I would say PK% is more important than PP% in terms of teams that make the playoffs.
That SoG stat just blows my mind. Seems like the past 5 years we have struggled to hit 20 in most games. Agree that the D needs to come around, but at least this group is more fun to watch.
Probably the best the power play has been in over a decade.
They do, but it’s also been 3 games
I just started following last year and seeing 34 SoG feels like a fever dream. I’m use to seeing like 20 lol
Honestly, how good would we have been this year if Q was the coach last year? I feel like the things we are seeing today would’ve been true last year. Cronin literally set us back a year. It sucks but we are here now.
Islanders being in the top 5 in all but one. Worst team so far. Makes sense
This makes me so happy
I like what I’m seeing, but we also haven’t played a good team yet. Let’s see those stats a month in and having played a couple of contenders.
Better than the last couple of years anyway.
Also I’ll add that being at the top of any of those stats individually doesn’t say much and could be a fluke, but being at the top of all of them means a lot more
what is this strange feeling…hope? optimism? WHATS GOING ON?
We haven’t played a true contender yet (Seattle might be the best team we’ve played and that’s a stretch) but if we can have a solid winning record against the bottom half of the league while going at least .500 or a little better against the top teams, we make the playoffs. It’s simple math.
I’d like to see them reduce the amount of turnovers at the blue line because that’s what has lead to most of the goals against in every game, but that’s a very easy thing to improve on compared to the litany of errors that had to be fixed last season. Offense is the one thing I’m not worried about and that feels so weird to say, it hasn’t been that way for a long time.
Dostal will find his rhythm soon enough, and I only see this team getting better as the season progresses. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens in the next few games to see if they can keep up this unreal pace, but I’m definitely more optimistic about this team than pretty much ever before.
Damn.. tomorrows game seems like it’ll be a challenge based off of these stats 😳
