Report Cards: Vancouver Canucks vs St. Louis Blues [October 13th 2025]

[Music] All right, we’re back here on Locked on Conucks. My name is Trevor Begs and this is the part of the show where we talk about every single player on the Vancouver Conucks. Uh get involved in the comments if you’re here watching on YouTube live. This is fiveish minutes for report cards. [Music] All right, this is fiveish minutes full report cards here on Locked on Conucks. Uh, and let’s kind of go through it line by line. Um, so we got the first line here, Jake de Brusk. Let’s give him a I’m going to give him a C++ tonight. I think he had one good pass. Can’t remember who who it was to, but he almost set up I think it was maybe Philip Heedle for a goal when they shook up the lines, but again, you want to see more from a guy like Jake Debr. C++. Elias Person, I’m I’m giving I’m giving a D tonight, man. Uh, maybe that’s even too kind. I think Kyle B wants to take that calculator and smack me once again. Um, and again in the comments, I’m not seeing a lot of love for Elias Patterson, but hey, the fans said he was one of the best one of the best Canucks in the game tonight. I’m not sure if I’m believing that, but look, it’s it’s clear that this guy, there’s a different standard for him, and through three games, he has absolutely not met that standard so far. Uh, Brock Ber far too was Brock Ber even playing tonight. Oh my god. I know he had two goals in his first two games, but largely invisible tonight. And again, at least Person can’t do it all by himself. Um, but someone on the lad’s got to do something and I don’t really think any of them did anything tonight. Uh, Jake De Brus and Brock B end up playing with Philip Heedle in the third period. Uh, is there potential there? Sure. But, uh, you know, they didn’t uh, there wasn’t much there. I said D. I said D. Yeah, I saw B in the comments. So, I said D for Elias Patterson cuz hey, you know what? There’s I guess defensively he was fine except for that one horrendous turnover that led to the Blues first goal of the game. Brock Ber, let’s give him a C minus. A Vander Kane. H, I’m going to give him a C. And I feel like Evander Kane’s speed’s been a bit of an issue. I hate Evander Kane on the power play. I I’ve hated him there so far this season. Bad passes back to the point. I think he passed it out of his own zone at one point. Try to bowl rush to the net, man. Trying to put the team on his back and all he does is cough up the puck. Ends up down the ice again. Please, for the love of God, get Jonathan Leer Macki on the top unit and see what he can do. C for Vander Kane. I’m going to give Philip Pedle a C minus tonight. Didn’t really like his game. Connor Garland, I’m going to give a B tonight. And I think Connor Garland, much like he for sure would, he’s a guy that you always notice out there. Something always happening with Connor Garland. Uh even though he was out there for a short-handed goal. I mean, man, oh man, look at the evolution of Connor Garland becoming now one of the team’s top penalty killers and top off offensive threats. Remember when we thought Elias Peterson was going to do that? Man, oh man. Drew Oconor, I’m going to give him a C minus tonight. I mean, other than drawing that penalty in the third period, you know, Drew O’ Conor also had a couple turnovers himself. Um, and yeah, again, when the St. Louis Blues scored their second goal of the game, my wife goes, “Who’s that guy? He sucks.” I got another funny quote from my wife that I’ll get to later on in the show, man. She She made me burst out laughing at one point. Uh, so what I say for Joe Connor, C sounds about right. Brain Coots, give him a C+, man. Trying hard out there. Not playing too much. Uh, not too noticeable, but not making any mistakes. Jonathan Leeraki, didn’t see much of him tonight. Give him a C. Ry Baines, I’d give him I’d give him a B tonight. Atu, I’d give him an A minus. I said I really liked Aturatu’s game tonight. The lone bright spot at center for your Vancouver Conucks was Atu Ratu. Okay. Um man, oh man, maybe should have been drafted higher in 2021, but that is revisionist history now, baby. And Kefir Sherwood. Give the guy an A+, man. Come on. Round of applause for I’m thankful for Kefir Sherwood, man. Round of applause for Kefir the Reefer Sherwood. Thank god Kefir Sherwood is on our hockey team. Reminder, he’s only making $1.5 million. Holy. Um, yeah. Yeah, he’s he’s definitely playing much above his pay grade. Quinn Hughes making things happen out there. Again, a turnover or two tonight again. Kind of like the Edmonton game, but he tries to put the team on his back. And you just hope at some point this season the forwards help him out because right now they are not helping him out at all. Uh but for his effort I would get I’d give him a a B+ overall. I know there’s a higher standard for Quinn Hughes much like there is a Leas Patterson but you see Quinn Hughes wheeling and dealing and trying to make things happen for your Vancouver Conucks and it’s hard to hate that. Uh Philip Pronic give him a B minus. I don’t know why Philip Pronic was arguing so hard about the high sticking call. Um, yeah, you know, maybe just a little butt hurt because his team’s not playing very well, but Philillip part of the issue, buddy. DPD out there tonight. Um, I give him a B. Uh, didn’t mind DP’s game at all. Uh, skating alongside Tyler Myers. Tyler Myers was a little chaotic tonight. I had to give Tyler Myers a C. Um, but hey, the these were the uh these were the D pairs that Kyle and I really wanted to see heading into the season. Hughes Heronic, DPD, Tyler Myers, Marcus Person, Victor Manchini. And you know, Marcus Person solid B tonight. Dan Ham used like you know cool calm collected and you know maybe one bad bad breakout pass but overall just you he gives you what you expect right there’s not a lot of variability in his game unlike a guy like Tyler Myers and Victor Manchini to be honest I thought he looked pretty rough tonight I mean you want to see the excitement the bull rushes up the ice boom bam but he looked a little sloppy with the puck uh his clears often weren’t getting out of the zone um again just gave one for Victor Manchini um but again it wasn’t really a great start for the season for him and Kevin Lankin and let’s give him a C overall. It’s hard to fault him on a lot of the goals. Maybe the Nathan Walker one that was down low. You’d like to see him get across and stop that one. Um but you know, Kevin Len, I think there’s better nights ahead for him. Um I don’t know. Again, if a lot of goals are his fault tonight, be letting five, sorry, four goals was an empty neter. Uh it’s a it’s a so night. So, let’s give him a let’s give him a C overall. How about that? That was close to five minutes, man. Unbelievable. All right, let’s pause for a quick break here. We’re going to wrap up with a lot of your comments here on the other side on locked on.

Game Recap: Blues 5, Canucks 2

Jimmy Snuggerud scored twice, pacing St. Louis to a 5–2 win over Vancouver.

Brayden Schenn added a goal and an assist, while Nick Bjugstad and Jake Neighbours also got goals for the Blues.

For Vancouver, Kiefer Sherwood was the lone bright spot with two goals, including one short-handed tally.

Kevin Lankinen started in net and made 30 saves, but gave up five goals on 35 shots.

The Blues struck early and often, including a power-play goal by Snuggerud and a 3-on-2 rush that restored their two-goal cushion.

🔍 Key Notes & Takeaways
The Canucks’ penalty kill, which had been spotless, finally cracked: Snuggerud scored on the power play—Vancouver’s first goal allowed in that area this season.

Vancouver showed spirit by getting goals back in the second via Sherwood, but couldn’t maintain momentum.

Offensively, other than Sherwood, the Canucks were quiet. The top lines struggled to consistently generate quality chances.

Defensively, the Blues’ transition game and odd-man rushes exposed some holes.

Lankinen’s stat line indicates he kept the game within reach, but the team in front of him needs to limit high-danger chances.
