The NHL is making live games available on free-to-air TV in Australia for the first time under a new agreement with Australia’s largest broadcast company, Nine Entertainment Co. The deal will see the 9GO broadcast station carry 21 regular-season games this season on Saturday mornings. The first telecast is this Saturday with Lightning-Red Wings, a game taking place in Detroit at 7pm ET on Friday night.

As part of the deal, the NHL will produce a broadcast feed tailored to the Australian audience from its studio in N.Y., marking the first time it will do so for an individual country.

  1. This is absolutely massive even if it’s only 21 games. Absolutely awesome to be able to watch Saturday morning hockey here for free.

  2. Love that then NHL is growing. Still wish it was more accessible here at home. Too many blackouts and cable subscriptions are still needed to watch games

  3. I don’t care if he knows anything about hockey… I just hope they hire Ozzy Man to be part of the broadcast team.

  4. The NHL can’t fix the nightmare of watching in market/out of market games here in the States. What the hell?
