  1. It doesn’t matter what he says. So many people have already created conspiracy theories about this whole thing. It can’t just be the simplest explanation, that he is quite literally telling us. It has to be something more nefarious.

  2. Sometimes its just time to hang up the mantle, spend time with fam, and live. Nothing but love to Schildt 🫶

  3. Clearly Shildt knew he had to hang it up after O’hearn hit that pinch hit homer after the reporter asked him about playing O’hearn the day before.

  4. “I love everything about the Padres”

What a great answer and a great class act.

Coaching has to be hard with the amount of scrutiny and backseat coaching you get from randos on the internet on a daily basis.

A lot of these “old school” coaches will be phased out as the world moves forward with technology, analytics and fan base feedback.

  5. This sub man I swear. So many idiots wjumpibg to the conclusion “aj is the common thread”

  6. Shildt helped create a winning mentality and winning culture, along with BoMel, that hasn’t been seen in the franchise for over a decade since Bochy. Bud Black had a few winning seasons, but mostly not.

The standards and expectations were continued by Shildt, who did it his way like any other manager.

Thank you Mike Shildt, all the best in the future. You’re always welcome to SD and Petco Park!

  7. I have a feeling that the year or so he spent behind the scenes made him much happier than managing, he just didn’t realize it at the time. I’d be happy to have him back in the FO in some capacity after he unwinds. He can still help us make Peter’s vision be reality.

  8. So I guess we can throw that theory that AJ Preller drove him away or that this was a secret firing in the garbage.
