Brodie’s Breakdown vs ANA (10/11)
Brody Brazil with Drew Renda here to recap game two of the season. A 76 final score once again in overtime. It goes the wrong way to the Anaheim Ducks. Drew, this is two games, six periods. I love so many things I’ve seen from the Sharks, just not the final two minutes of regulation and just not the results. Right. Again, it’s it’s not closing out games. And when you’re when you’re in a situation like that, what the Sharks haven’t learned is that details matter. Now, what you know, coaches say it all the time, broadcasters say it all the time. What are details when you talk about hockey? Well, when you’ve got the lead in the third period, it is pucks out at the blue line, pucks in at the blue line. It is getting people in on the for check and playing defense in their zone. It is being able to make sure you clear pucks out of your zone. It’s making sure you take care of the front of the net. It’s making sure you skate back all the time. And I’m picking up the guy that’s coming to the net, as in Chris Krider late in the game. It’s little details like that that the Sharks should have already embraced, but they didn’t. And there’s also, hey, Mlin had a heck of a game. Oh, yeah. But but you don’t turn the puck over at the offensive blue line in overtime. You just take the puck back and you regroup. And you know, who am I to tell Mlin Cellerini? That’s what is that’s the situation it is is that you have to make sure that you are being smart and and when Chris Krider when the the game is tied or I’m sorry one the Sharks are up by one by one and the play is going towards the Sharks net with the empty net. Everybody’s got to come back to the net. I understand Mario trying to block it but everybody else is standing still. Those are the little details that the Sharks are missing. And as you said, there is so much to like about this. Seven goals I didn’t like. Six I did. Six I did. Yeah. But there’s more that the San Jose Sharks have to do. They’ve got to start learning their lessons. It’s hard to score six. Yeah. And get a point but not get both points. I also love the fact that it was six different goal scorers in tonight’s game. Drew loved Ryan Reef’s score. How great and then getting in the scrap with Big Jos. I love Adam Goddet play and I love the way that Clingberg play. Alex Wenberg had a whale of a game. He was so good with the assist and then then the screen. There was a again a lot of good things like this is a very different San Jose Sharks team without a doubt. They’re faster. They’re more physical. They set a pace and a tone of the game and they do a really good job and they and for 58 minutes again, 59 minutes. They have bounce back ability. They they attack, but that third period you could see right off the bat the Ducks attack and the Sharks right scrambling. I I was just I I know that Ryan Rossovski was looking for an answer from somebody once in a while. He got it from Gdro and Godette. Um he got it from Dandria. He got it Colin Graph. Um Kurishv, you know, there was a key play though. Will Smith gets the chance. It comes back out in the slot to Kurishv and he’s got a point blank chance and and Jacob Trouba partially blocks it. Goes up. That could have salted the game away. Right. That’s those are the little things, right? Sam Dickinson makes his NHL debut paired with Demetri Orlov who by the way played a significant amount more minute amount more minutes than Sam did. So maybe a careful measured debut for Sam. But overall, how do you think he did? Very well. Calm, relaxed. He saw his skating ability. Looked like he belonged. Yeah, he really did. He just was not lost. Skated very, very well. That’s what he is. He’s an elite skater. I thought he looked good. He didn’t look panicked at all. I think like he thought to to himself, I can do this. ninth youngest shark to make his NHL debut. Yaruslav Vascarov his first time in nets. I know he’s going to have a seven tack to his name after this. Some maybe ones he wants back. That old cliche, but I think he also played well too. First goal was and the last goal went through went through the seven hole and and in the regular se in the in the preseason he had more goals like that go through. He’s got to shore that up. But after he looked shaky to start the game and then in the the second period and most of the third he was absolute dynamite. He made two or three saves that were terrific. In fact, even on the on the tying goal, he makes a big save. But the Ducks crashed the net so well, especially Cryard. So, um yeah, I I give them I give them good marks, but those two that went through them, those ones are those ones are killers. I think our execution with starts with our breakouts. Um, and coming out of our Dzone just, you know, where when you play your Dzone a lot because you turn over the puck a lot, you’re going to eventually break and that’s what happened tonight. So, go back and look at it, work on it, look at our Dzone structure. Um, it’s a good team over there. So, um, we got to be better though. I think just kind of, you know, getting even even quicker with my decisions. Decision- making is, you know, the biggest thing here. I got to be prepared to, you know, have a guy on me before I even have the puck and still be able to make the outlet pass, make the play. Um, so I think that was a big one for me. And, you know, I think a big thing for that is just going to be, uh, you know, repetition in practice, getting better that way, and then, you know, in the game just get more and more comfortable with, uh, you know, such a different speed than I’ve played before. Final thought, uh, we’re still on pace for 82 points this season. You want to bring that up? You know what? But, but there’s no satisfaction with this so far. There really isn’t, but there shouldn’t be. Well, the results I should say there’s no satisfaction with the effort. Again, no complaints. This does look like a different team. It really does. So, how do we how do we move forward with this for game three? You know what I’m saying? Like you you want to find yourself almost in a close third period game again just so you can prove we know how to do this. Yeah. But the only way they’re going to be able to prove it is to actually do it. And they haven’t been able to show us from the 32 game close games last year to the two so far this year. And they’ve also not been mirror images, but gez they’ve been darn similar that they have to find a way to in the third period understand that you don’t change the way you’re playing. And in fact, you upgrade your management of the game. And there’s too many guys right now, there’s the whole team, as a matter of fact, in the third period, they start doing this. That puck is going to that puck. Where’s that puck? Where’s that puck? Where’s that puck? Instead of just playing the game that you played for the first 40 minutes. And that’s up to the coaching staff to get that message through. It’s up to the veteran players. Heck, it’s up to every one of the guys to understand what they’ve done right now is yes, there’s some good stuff, but our five minutes are up. I’ll see you for game three on Tuesday.

Drew is amazing, love that he tells it like it is, it’s gonna help the kids grow
I'm going to be like the sharks and not finish this com
Biggest takeaway from this game, offense is good but keeping a lead is a big problem. I get it we’re not supposed to be good but goddamn it, if we can’t keep a lead, I might actually scream 😒😒😒🤦🤦
Also someone make a petition to bring Brodie back to TV😢😢😢
Brodie U am both mad and disappointed at the same time with this result
Is there anyway to do a post game show Brodie? Your old NBC show is unwatchable!
Mario was out of position, as usual, much of the time! Hoping the Sharks can trade him. Makes the same mistakes he made years ago. Time to move on and play the young guys!
Drew is so good
well if players aren't doing what their suppose to do then get rid of them and get players that will even if their in the AHL….yea it's only game 2 but it's a bad trend starting the season ….AGAIN ! and when does this start to reflect on the caching staff and GM ?
Brodie, and a lot of this young talent are great examples of the future of the sport, but Ego's need to be checked(people trying to keep an old way that doesn't work) ,respect doesn't mean anything if your a loser and there is a combination of players that wins games it's a puzzle that that can be solved, anybody at the Sharks organization speaking about pride or the old way should be let go, be proud of winning games, and Brodie I don't know who started with the suits but I trust the dude in a plaid button up, and a Sharks vest I mean don't you have unlimited access to some of the coolest gear
Sorry everyone, my wife jinx the game. But we should of never let Blackwood go.
Let's face reality. The Sharks have two beer league goalies and with the DEI GM, who actually at one time traded not one, but two Norris trophy winners, the Sharks will have seriously trouble keeping the GA under five. At least they got rid of Thrun, so it could be worse.
get used to getting carlsson'ed, future beast.
Drew should be one of the San Jose Sharks coach’s assistant.
if i have to watch that klingberg and leddy pairing a 3rd straight game….. oof
Maybe this is where a captain may come to play by exhorting his team in the 3rd period to buckle down and keep forechecking to keep possession in the ozone, no?
love you Drew that helps my dissappointment. Not sure if Askarov is an assest.
Drew keeps me around almost as much as the Sharks do lol
