Why Colts QB Daniel Jones Is Kurt Warner’s Choice as NFL MVP So Far | The Rich Eisen Show

If I told you uh Chiefs were going to be three and three going into week seven, okay, that hey, you and I are going to be sitting in London getting ready to call this game. Um, Chiefs are going to be three and three. Patriots are going to lead the AFC East. Yeah. Um, the Steelers were going to be 4- one, but have a two and a halfame lead on everybody else in the division, including the Ravens at 1 and five. Yeah. Or the Colts at 5- one. Which one would you have looked at me and go, “Nah, not at all.” The Colts are the one seed in the AFC entering week seven, Kurt. Yeah, I gave you those scenarios. I mean, three and three. You I can run through it again. Three and three. No, no. The only thing which one of those would be most surprising, ironically, I would say the Colts leading their division would not be conference. Just conference conference five and one. Oh, gotcha. Talk about division. No, they’re leading the conference at five and one. Yeah. Running down. Well, I mean, that’s that’s got to be the like we’re talking leading the conference. But I thought, you know, division maybe not. Steelers are that have a big lead over the I mean that’s surprising just from the standpoint that I thought Cincinnati would be better. I thought they would be pushing for the playoffs. We all thought the Ravens. So So to think that they’ve got a two and a half uh you know game lead in the division at this point. I don’t think anybody anybody would have guessed that. Patriots lead the AFC East. I mean yeah that’s again I thought they would be a better team. Nobody thought they would be better than Buffalo. And so that is surprising. But yeah, I would say Colts being the leader in the AFC overall. Come on. I mean, nobody’s nobody saw that with with Daniel Jones and what he’s he’s been phenomenal. I mean, compare like I guess let’s linger here for a quick minute. Compare the guy who we saw last year in Munich who that was his last start for the Giants. the film that you saw going into that game, the performance you saw in that game, the guy we’re seeing now. I mean, it’s it’s night and day. It’s 180. It’s a quarterback that’s confident in what they’re asking. Like, I felt the Daniel Jones in New York, especially at that time, had gotten to the point where it was like over. Well, it was over, but he was afraid to do anything. like he was afraid to play because all it was was scrutiny and he wasn’t good enough and every mistake he made was accentuated and he goes to to Indie and I I just feel like it’s a free Daniel Jones and now they they play a style that I think fits him. I’ve said this from day one fits him perfectly with what he does and what he’s good at. But I truly feel like he’s not worried about making a mistake. He’s not worried about the New York scrutiny that’s going to come with it or or living up to the first round. He’s just able to just play football and they’re confident in him and he’s not looking over his shoulder and he’s not worried about anything. Um, and and again, we talk about Drake May and Drake May has been awesome, but if I had to take one guy and say he was my leader for the MVP at this point, I love Baker and Baker’s made a lot of big plays and so I I think I might skew his direction because of those big plays and bringing his team back. But one quarterback that has played consistently better than everybody else up to this point in the season, I would choose Daniel Jones right now. I would choose Daniel Jones. Not as many big wow plays, right? But consistently good. I would choose Daniel Jones. I mean, they should have beat the Rams that, you know, he played well enough. They should have beat the Rams as well. Yeah. I mean, and he’s he’s played great. And so, to me, he has been the best top tobottom consistent quarterback in the National Football League through six weeks. Ninth MVP odds. He’s ninth. Ninth. He’s ninth. He’s not flashy. He’s not exciting. He doesn’t have Jonathan Taylor scoring a ton of touchdowns. But again, I think if if he was making some of the Baker Mayfield or Drake May throws on top of it, he would be way up that board. But they’re not asking him him to and you know, quite frankly, he’s not that guy. But just the way he’s playing down in and down out, he’s been better. What other quarterbacks are ahead of him? Uh ahead of him. That’s all quarterbacks. So all of them are quarterback. Eight quarterbacks that are ahead of him. Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, Stafford, Goff, Drake May, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes is your favorite. Okay, come on. No, I mean, uh, at this point in the year, no way we’re putting half of those guys, you know, ahead of him if you’re just looking at play. What would your top four be then for MVP right now? Baker would be up there, uh, for sure. Um, obviously Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones would be up there. We’re talking just these quarterbacks. Yeah, sure. Where’s my list? There’s your list right there. Dak Prescott Knicks. I mean, and I don’t know. I mean, I again, you know, I think about Jonathan Taylor and guys like that that I would probably put up there. You got to put if a quarterback is playing as well as Daniel Jones has been playing. Yeah. And it’s of a five in one team and he’s not making mistakes after mistake that we’ve seen. His play has been vastly improved. He’s got to be in the MVP mix. Baker Mayfield, you you’d have to put Drake May in that mix right now, right? At 4 and2. I mean, Drake’s been good. I don’t know if I would put him I would say MVP good but but it’s been surprisingly good for the team so I understand Matt Jones in there on that you know I mean I think Sam Darnold’s played really well too I don’t think Safford’s played well too but I think he’s had some ups and downs really again I just I I don’t think I would put any of those guys ahead of Daniel Jones if I was just picking an MVP right now their names are flashier we understand all of that but just the way they’re playing. I mean, I think Baker would be the only one that I would put above him, and I think it would be really close. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. 1. Wow….First to comment! Never happened to me before.
I love to see underdogs…come out on top after being discounted. Story of my life. Go Daniel Jones! "Indiana Jones"….but it seems Rich simply won't buy into that wonderful nickname?

  2. Right now, MVP really is between Baker and Daniel Jones.

The only reason the odds don't reflect it is because of reputation. Which is the same reason Mahomes, Allen and Herbert are favored above them.

Personally, I'd give it to Baker since he has led his team to a 5-1 record while throwing to McDonald's employees. But I wouldn't be surprised if Jones takes it from him by seasons end. Those saying JT has carried him haven't been paying attention. JT is having his best year because defenses can't stack the box due to how well Jones has been burning them.

  3. I'm really getting tired of people saying nobody expected the Colts to be this good. I've been saying that ever since they signed Daniel Jones! I knew the Colts are going to be a great team this year with Daniel Jones. We actually have a shot to win the Super Bowl now! Of course nobody's going to remember I said this either…

  4. MVP is Most Valuable Player… I think Daniel Jones has been the most valuable player this year because of the consistency he has brought to the Colts. Not only in completions, Red Zone trips, 3rd down conversions, scoring, but he is Valuable because he is helping the Colts win games! Which is ultimately what matters most. The level Mahomes, Allen, and some of those other guys ahead of him have been playing is not to a level that would make them the Most Valuable Player. They should not judge them based on last years work, or how big their names currently are.. Daniel Jones for MVP!

  5. Jones has had a lot of "wow" plays, actually. A lot of throws under pressure into extremely tight windows for big gains. I saw this coming from his college days. He was always going to be this good. You don't lead the NFL in QBR by accident.

  6. In 2023 the Giants allowed 84 sacks which is laughably absurd you can't expect many QB's to succeed in that scenario. Jones was sacked 30 times, Devito was sacked 37 times and Tyrod Taylor was sacked 17 times. Jones has only been sacked 5 times in 6 games in Indy.

  7. Of the Colts, Chiefs and Chargers, the Chiefs and Chargers have won games against stronger teams (combined for 10 wins). Teams the Colts have defeated have only combined for 8 wins. Based on strength of schedule, Chiefs and Chargers are the top AFC teams so far. Of course, it’s only week 6 and that can change.

  8. Colts have played BAD teams so far, how about relaxing a bit until they prove otherwise, only team they played that was good was Denver which they barely beat I think on a late or missed field goal and they lost to the Rams… lets relax a bit on Jones.
