It’s because this same shit has been happening for the last decade or more. Tomlin’s defense is outdated and reliant on miracle turnovers.

  1. No consistent pash rush and playing the same zone scheme will result in this.

Middle of field is always open

Slants and drags, couldn’t stop them.

  2. Why does it feel like we’re the only team that opponents consistently say about us?

  3. Danny Heifitz of the ringer said he was in the ravens lockeroom last year after the playoff win and the ravens were literally laughing about how thinly disguised the Steelers defense was.

Julian Edelman went on his podcast and laughed about how when they played the Steelers, he knew he was going to have a big game because they’ve been doing the exact same stuff for years.

You have multiple people in the NFL telling you this defense is a paper tiger and has been for a long time. If you seriously think that the defense isn’t a problem, then you are either a fool or Teryl Austin and Mike Tomlin are paying you to say nice things about them on the internet

  4. No shit, we do the same plays every year for the past 20 years.

Tomlin’s shit worked when it was new, but we don’t innovate.

  5. our offensive game plan is so obvious, all our biggest plays were rodgers scrambling and making something happen. defensively we are not even there, with no adjustments at half time. just an awful team of coaches we have.

  6. Remember when the Steelers were known for halftime adjustments? Now they get torched by soft zones and still do it the rest of the game

  7. I feel I have watched the exact same thing for like 10 years straight, so incredibly frustrating.

  8. I’ve tried to stay on the fence for as long as possible but after last night I am officially on the side of Tomlin NEEDS to go. That was an embarrassment. Stop settling for mediocrity.

  9. Divisional games are not trap games. These are teams that know us well and have the most tape on us.

Execution trumps all. Knowing what the other team will probably do is one thing, but actually executing the play(s) to beat it, or stop it is another.

The whole fucking world knows the Eagles will go for it on 4th and short. They know it’s going to be a tush push. Yet the Eagles still succeed. It should be the easiest thing in the world to stop, but they still succeed. Execution matters.

  10. Everyone complaining about the pass rush when Flacco was getting that ball out as soon as he planted on the last step of his drop on every play is so misguided.

It wasn’t the pass rush. We had an awful pass coverage plan. I’m not really sure why the coaching staff thought we could just play man coverage on Chase and Tee all game but I’m mystified by it.

Didn’t help that we were getting absolutely gashed in the run game too.

Coaches did not have a good plan and got their asses exposed.

  11. I was shocked they only sacked Flacco twice last night.. I thought for sure they would double that up after last weeks defensive performance..

  12. Every year we see comments like this from a steelers opponent. I really wish a media guy had the balls to ask the coach why. How many times will tomlin use “schematics” or “component” trying to nonsensically explain away how they let the #1 threat for the bengals, the guy I’m sure they gameplanned for all week, catch 16 passes?

  13. Remember how after the wildcard game last year the ravens also said they knew exactly what the Steelers defense was gonna do?

  14. I’m not one to call for firing Tomlin. But it’s time for him to bring in a real defensive coordinator and give up the defensive play calling to him

  15. This is has been said by more than one receiver and it’s been said while we’ve employed different defensive coordinators. I want Teryl Austin gone as much as the next guy, but if you still don’t believe Tomlin is the head of the defense after this then I don’t know what to tell you.

  16. LB spot drops vs competent QB/OC = losses. Goes back to the Brady days. Nothing will change.

  17. A good QB will always torch the Steelers D, Tomlin get’s by winning slightly over half the games because they play young, back-up, or bad QB’s basically half the games. Then you randomly win a few against a good team. Flacco has basically been playing against this defensive scheme for 2 decades, no wonder Tomlin was pissed to see him.

  18. Chase had a phenomenal game and it was just on the back of leaving him one on one, he runs a slant and runs for an extra 10 yards. Probably 10-12 of his catches were just too easy. Then there was the play where we just forgot he existed, because thats normal for a defense to do, forget their top player and guy who has been killing you all game.

Ja’marr Chase beats a lot of teams, no question about that, but the way it was too easy for him is inexcusable. At least make Flacco throw some difficult passes

  19. Honestly, they couldn’t stop the run at all, Warren had a big game but could have been even bigger if they just kept feeding him… would be a waste of Rodgers arm, but with the receivers Pittsburgh has, it’s almost a waste anyways.

  20. Tomlin’s biggest mistake was keeping Teryl Austin and letting Flores walk. Flores is taking an okay group of guys and making them elite in Minnesota. Austin is taking an elite group of guys and making them okay.

If you gave somone who actually knows defense the guys that we have on the team, the defense would be what everyone hopes they would be

  21. Flacco raw dogged us, he fucking raw dogged us. We should add him to the list of players we want to work out with this offseason.

  22. I guess we can hope that the coaching staff will see this and realize they actually have to game plan differently for different teams… I think there’s about a 5% chance they will actually change their ways, but you never know.

  23. I can’t link to Twitter because reddit is stupid, but this was a tweet from Kurt Warner this morning:

    > Hats off to the vet #JoeFlacco for what he’s done over 2 weeks including a win vs div leading Pitt in short week in new O… also can’t believe Pitt left off coverage on #JamarrChase so much last night allowing pitch-n-catch, at least make JF go through reads to see where he’s at!

Somewhat related, this was his other tweet since the game, which made me feel better about that first int:

    > One thing that really stinks as a QB is when you have a GO/Dble Move & get right look, hold safety & throw it bc it’s really just 1on1… you throw to a spot bc you never really look at GO (unless thinking back shoulder) & WR gets squeezed to sideline & becomes easy INT like last night on Rodgers throw to DK!

    > Sometimes you are so at the mercy of WR release or how soft a CB plays bc you can’t stare it down… once a WR is pushed to sideline just nowhere to throw the ball & it’s so easy on DB!

  24. I hate that the use of this was an away travel game, what is it 3 hrs or such. You know who Flacco is u know who the Bengals r.

  25. It’s amazing how much this has been said over the years and nothing changes. None of the media brass call him out on it.

Tomlin is the guy that thinks his shit doesn’t stink, everyone else is wrong and he’s right. To say that shit about the Browns GM and then get fucked up by a team that’s 2-4 is just exactly what I’d expect from Tomlin. He’s a fucking joke.

  26. Look, I know that people will always say that fans who want Tomlin fired are stupid and that he’d be scooped up in a second. But, sometimes relationships between coaches and teams run dry and it’s best to part ways. I hate to drag other Pittsburgh teams into the scenario, but I just keep thinking that the Penguins fired Sullivan when his time with the team seemingly ran dry, and he won 2 Stanley Cups in the time since Tomlin last won a single playoff game.

It just has to happen, but they’re so terrified of letting him go. Keeping Tomlin is helping no one but Tomlin. His decisions get increasingly worse each year. Teams know what he’s going to do, and they aren’t afraid to let everyone know that. They’re approaching a decade of mediocrity under him. Just do it already. The organization needs a new identity. When what the coach is most known for (defense) isn’t working, that’s a sign.

  27. Lets keep this trap game bs in perspective. The Steelers got exactly what they was expecting too. Tough loss but it was still a last second field goal that decided it. Not a 42-10 whooping.

  28. This game was necessary to bring everyone’s expectations back in line with what Tomlin will accomplish this season – the same shit we get every year

  29. More than half a decade with our opponents repeatedly saying that they knew what we were going to do *ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FUCKING BALL*

    Fire Tomlin.
