Miami Dolphins Get FANTASTIC News Before NFL Trade Deadline + BAD Injury News

[Music] We got some good news and we got some bad news to discuss here on Dolphins Today. I am your host Nick Rolloloff. Good news comes on the trade front. Trade deadline less than a month away. There was an interesting report that may actually be huge for the Miami Dolphins in a positive way. But you look at the Dolphins injury news before week seven and it’s not that good whatsoever. specifically on kicker Jason Sanders. We’ll also take a look at some roster decisions they potentially are going to make. But we’ll start with the trade news and rumors because Mike Kay, who covers the Carolina Panthers, reported that he was texting with an NFC executive this week about the pass rusher market because the Panthers are apparently in the market for an edge. And the NFC executive said that there may be a supply and demand issues at the trade deadline because a lot of teams are trying to add pass rushers and not trade them away. Well, there is a team in Miami that has edge rushers to potentially trade away that this will benefit and we’ll explain more here in a second. But subscribe to the channel right now. We’re on the road to 77K subscribers. We need 36 to get to 76,500 daily Dolphins content. And if the Dolphins do make any trades, we will have you covered. So join the family today. But why is this report potentially big? Well, if there aren’t many teams trading away edge rushers at the deadline, Miami, who is projected to have two veterans that they look to trade before November’s 4th deadline, their trade value will go up. Will it go up so much where it’s like crazy return for Miami? No. I don’t want people to get aggressive thinking that, but it could very well be a round bump up. Like if a player was going to get traded for a fifth and then now there’s just more of a demand for him, maybe it’s a fourth round pick. The two players that I’m referring to are obviously Jaylen Phillips and Bradley Chub, a veteran in Chub who is not long for Miami, restructured contract this off season. He was almost going to get cut. and Jaylen Phillips, who is on the final year of his rookie contract, does not have a deal in place beyond this year, playing on his fifthear rookie option. And if Miami has no plans to extend him or pay him big bucks in the off season, then they should absolutely look to trade him since they are sellers at the deadline so they don’t lose him for nothing. And I do think Jaylen Phillips is the player that will garner more interest and also provide Miami with a better asset in return. Sure, when you look at the raw production, Bradley Chub has better sack numbers. He has totaled four sacks this year compared to Phillips one, but Phillips has been better in the analytics. As well as when you watch the Phil and if you look beyond the stat sheet, you look beyond the box score, it’s pretty obvious that Jaylen Phillips is better. And he’s getting better week in and week out. When you watch the film, his burst off the line, his quickness, his power, the way he sets the edge in the run game, it’s all significantly stronger than what Bradley Chub is doing right now. And honestly, it doesn’t surprise me considering Chub is coming off a year where he didn’t play and a massive knee reconstruction where he had ACL, PCL, and MCL injury. Unfortunately, at this point in the season, Bradley Chub just doesn’t look like the player he was before the massive knee injury. So, I think Jaylen Phillips coming into this week, his trade value is probably around a fourth round pick, whether it’s a standard fourth round pick or a conditional fourth round pick. Bradley Chub, because of his age, contract, and decline in play, potentially worth a sixth round selection. But as I mentioned a little bit earlier in the show, these trade projections could change drastically if the demand is high and the supply is low. Basic eco 101 for the people who went to college. The prices are going to go up. So Jaylen Phillips in a normal market may be worth a fourth round pick. But in this year’s trade deadline market, because of the supply and demand, he might be going for a third round pick, which would be huge to give Miami a potential another top 100 selection in the NFL draft. And maybe Bradley Chub could be upgraded to a fifth round pick. Or there is another trade idea that I have that could maybe get Miami another day three or day two pick, excuse me. But Miami also has to attach a pick to Chub and almost like a pick swap. Before we continue with the trade talk, who is more likely to be traded? Type JP for Jaylen Phillips, type BC for Bradley Chub. Let me know which edge rusher is more likely to be down. So, we talked about a high demand market for these two edge rushers potentially. I think these are the eight teams that we’ll have to keep an eye on as a potential trade partner with Miami. Philadelphia is always looking to add some edge rushers. San Francisco with Nick Bosa’s injury is seriously going to be looking to replace um Bosa for the rest of the year. Detroit after having all of the defensive line injuries a year ago will probably look to add insurance. And then the teams on the right surprising teams this season who may look to go allin, specifically Tampa and Indianapolis by adding more defensive players. And Carolina sitting at three and three maybe believes they have a shot to sneak into the wild card if they add some players of their defense and maybe trade up for a player who they saw get a sack against them firsthand in Jaylen Phillips. Now before we close out the trade talk on this episode, I do want to make this note. It is extremely frustrating to me personally that regardless of what Miami does or doesn’t do in the trade market, whether they do trade away some key players, whether they don’t trade away some key players, the fact that Chris Greer is still the one to be making these decisions is infuriating. It is because this is a guy who should not be employed. Has been the GM since 2016. Dolphins have no playoff wins in that time frame. only made it three times and we have consistently seen bad decisions after bad decisions by Chris G. Why should we continue to allow him to make these decisions when we know that there is a higher likelihood of them turning out negatively for Miami than positively? I don’t care if it’s some random interim GM. I would rather take the gamble with someone like that than the known commodity that we have right now in Chris Greer. Let’s segue over to some injury news right now because well, we couldn’t have all positive stuff here on today’s show. This injury news has to do with kicker Jason Sanders because special teams coach Craig Aerman said today that he doesn’t know if Jason Sanders is close to returning or if he will even return at all and kick for the Miami Dolphins this season, which is kind of hard to fathom. And it just creates more frustration for fans and me personally. Like it’s incredibly annoying. It is like, and it’s not because the Dolphins have had a kicker issue this season. No. Riley Patterson has been awesome. He’s missed one field goal. He’s missed one kick in general, and it was the 57 yard field goal try from a week ago against the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s been awesome and consistent, but we as a fan base have been consistently misdiagnosed and given inaccurate timets when it comes to players returning from injuries, whether it is the coaching staff or media members. We hear they could get Sanders back in four to five weeks. Well, it’s been about seven or eight weeks now. And I blame ESPN for that. I don’t really blame the Dolphins because they never said that he would be returning closer to that like first deadline window which is around week five. But you look at like Austin Jackson, you look at James Daniels, two offensive linemen that are still out with injury. They were placed on IR after week one. So had to miss weeks 2, three, four, and five. Eligible to come back in week six. Doesn’t. And now McDaniel says that oh they’re not going to be activated for week seven and we don’t know. They’re probably a couple weeks away. So it’s like you told us that they had a chance to return closer to that four-week window in week six. They don’t. They’re not ready for week seven and they might be out longer. It’s just more and more time again where it’s witnessing the Dolphins not give us accurate timets for players to return. A and it’s just super annoying. And if you can’t tell, it doesn’t make me very happy. Well, you can be happy making the right decisions on prize picks. You and I make decisions every day. The right ones can get you paid. So simple. Just pick more or less on at least two player stats. And if you get your picks right, you could cash in. How you play is up to you. You want flexibility? Choose the flex play where you can get paid even if one of your picks misses. And if you want the biggest payouts, go for the power play. No matter your play, Price Fix is a great way to put your takes to the test. They also offer injury reboots. One of your players leaves the game in the first half and doesn’t return. Price fix won’t count it as a loss. I’m going go into Browns Dolphins week seven action here. It’s supposed to be super windy and rainy, which means lot of runs, not a lot of explosive big plays in the passing game. So go less than on Gabriel and Tua longest completion, more than on Achan rushing attempts, and more than on Quinn Junkkins rushing yards. Join me. It’s good to be right. All right, let’s move over to some roster news now. Jordan Colbert, the Dolphins signed him off of their practice squad of the 53 man a week ago in terms of having some depth at safety. Well, the former Rhode Island Ram is actually no longer a safety, is converting to being a linebacker. That’s what linebacker coach Joe Barry said today. So, this is the new updated depth chart at linebacker with Tyrell Dodson returning this week with injury. Brooks and Dodson project to be your starter. KJ Britt is the backup to Dodson. Willie Gay Jr. is the backup to Brooks. And now you have Jordan Colbert as that linebacker five. Now, would he be able to play safety if needed to? Absolutely. But it is fascinating to see them transition Colbert from his position he played in college in the first year of his career to linebacker. He said, Barry, that is that Colbert has great athleticism, has always been on the bigger side of safeties. We felt with his skill set and physicality that if he has any future in the National Football League, it was going to be at linebacker. So hopefully it works out on Jordan Colbert moving to linebacker. I wanted to update the fins fans that that is the position he will play moving forward. But it’s another linebacker that won’t play from Miami. We’ve talked about all season how Willie Gay Jr. deserves more playing time from Miami. And right when you thought he was going to get it with Tyrell Dodson missing a game, it was actually the first time all season since week one that Willie Gay Jr. did not play a snap on the field. So I don’t think we’ll ever see Willie Gay Jr. Unless like every linebacker gets hurt. But man, another linebacker that won’t play. Hopefully it works out for Jordan Colbert though. Let’s move over to the secondary because there may be an open competition right now at CB2. Anthony Weaver talking about the secondary said that the quarterback two spot opposite of Rousul Douglas has been and will continue to be an open competition. Rul Douglas obviously didn’t start in week one, was still learning the defensive scheme. Storm Duck gets hurt. Douglas comes in, has been the best defensive back for Miami, has been a top 10 graded corner in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus, and is the certified CB1 for the rest of the season, at least right now. And you did see a little bit of a shift this past week in that game against the Chargers. Duel Douglas played every single snap defensively 64. But Jack Jones had a decrease in snaps, 46. And we saw Ethan Bonner get a little bit more, 16. We also saw Guju Brent play for the Miami Dolphins for the first time, only three snaps, but it was the first time that he was on the field for Miami in a regular season game or preseason for that matter. So, we’re going to see a lot of different corners get an opportunity outside of Rousul Douglas and on the boundary. And with Storm Duck likely being able to be active this week as he’s finally healthy coming back from that ankle injury he suffered in week one, Anthony Weaver did not say that his spot was going to be handed back to him. Remember, Duck was the starting CB1 to start the year. Gets hurt. And Anthony Weaver says Duck will certainly need to earn his spot throughout practice and potentially during game days to be back in that starting role for the Dolphins defense. So, we’ll certainly see who ultimately is that CB2 opposite of Rousul Douglas this week and beyond. But who should it be? Let me know your thoughts based off what we’ve seen this season. Should Jack Jones remain the starter type JJ? Should it be Duck returning at SD? Or is should it be a new guy like Juju Brent or Ethan Bonner? Get your votes down in the comments. Before we round out today’s show, I’m open for anything. Like, I don’t think it’s a secret how bad this Dolphins defense is. We talked about how bad the secondary was coming into the year and how that was my main concern. Ironically enough, the secondary you could argue has been the strongest point of the defense, which is saying how bad it is, by the way, because it’s not like the defensive secondary has been any good. It’s just how bad the run defense in front seven has been. Um, but yeah, listen, as we continue to talk about the defense, like making changes won’t really change anything unless it gets better, right? Like it’s hard to get worse than what it is right now as a defense because they’re the worst defense at the football. So, you make these changes and if it gets better, well, you may have found a winning recipe. So, shuffle it up for all I care. All right, that’ll do it for today’s show. will continue to have you covered between now and Sunday’s week seven game between Miami and Cleveland in Cleveland. 1. So you are saying that Despite having 4 times as many sacks on LESS snaps than Phillips, Chubb is not performing as well because of some stupid analytics? You trade Phillips all day long. Phillips has proven to be the more injury prone of the two going back to college. Paying him would be the same mistake as paying Tua. If you can get a higher draft pick, then you keep Chubbs contract which will turn out to be less money than what Phillips will demand in FA

  2. It is crazy to think Jaelen Phillips is only worth a 4th round pick when he was drafted in the first round and has been solid for years. I get it. If you think he won’t resign, I get at least getting something out of it. But still.

  3. Phillips was a 1st round pick!
I needs at least a 1st in return!
We could simply extend him on a cheap contract since he’s been injured for 2 years and isn’t producing.

  4. Riley Patterson has been great as a backup kicker. No rush to get starter back. Windy and rainy for Sunday means disaster for Dolphins. They never play good in bad weather. This year they dont play well in good weather.

  5. I really don't give a damn what Miami does with its players – it won't matter until the clowns coaching this team and running the organization are gone.

  6. Great video Nic trade Phillips and Jacksss Grier always makes the wrong call with signing injured players and drafted players with injury history. The Management is a shi@t show thats why we suck!!!

  7. The only fantastic news that will change this team is Chris Grier getting fired. That isn't going to happen with Ross, so nothing will change and the Dolphins will be a dumpster fire until they're sold in 10 or 20 years.

  8. Why would anyone believe that Chris Grier will make intelligent trade moves now, after demonstrating his inability to do that at any point in his job as GM? Did he start taking vitamin T supplements?

  9. A real clash of the titans this Sunday! Neither team belongs on an NFL field. Two of the worst run organizations in the NFL. If the Dolphins are smart, they will find a way to lose this game. If not, they would be ceding the top two QB prospects to the Jets and Browns. The Saints and Raiders will also be in the hunt for a franchise QB. Do what you do best Dolphins and lose.

  10. What are you talking about. Phillips is not playing good at all
What the he'll are you looking at. Had Hubert dead to rights on a sack and didn't have the strength to bring him down.
