Milwaukee Brewers 97-Win Season UNRAVELS in NLCS | Can the Brewers Avoid a Dodgers Sweep?

Can the Brewers come back from an 03 deficit and win this series against the Dodgers? Man, we got to start small. Can they even win an at bat first? You are Locked On Brewers, your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. Hey everybody, good to have you along. My name is Chuck Freeman, longtime sports cer here in the state of Wisconsin, proud host of Locked On Brewers, part of Locked On Podcast Network. We are your team every day. This show is brought to you by FanDuel at FanDuel right now. New customers, you bet five bucks, your bet wins, you get $300 in bonus bet at FanDuel. All right, coming up on the show today, yeah, another terrible performance for the Milwaukee Brewers. Offensively, they are brutal. Are they built for October? One bright spot I did see and we’ll look ahead to game four, which is coming up on Friday. All right, 97 wins during the regular season. And I’m sitting here at beautiful Dodger Stadium and it is beautiful. I mean, the weather out here is amazing. And I’m thinking to myself as this as one inning and one bad at bat rolls on after another after another, I’m thinking to myself, maybe this team Maybe the way we’re doing things, we’re just not built to win championships. I mean, I hate to go there right off the top there, but how do you win 97 games in the regular season and look amazing, okay? And I explained, you know, I mean, all the terrific victories, the luck suddenly run out magically here in the postseason. Brewers can’t even put together a good at bat. The double by Bowers. I’m sorry, the RBI single by D Bowers. He had a double the other night. The RBI single by Bowers that drove in the run to tie the game at one. That was the first base hit with a runner in scoring position since Bowers did it game three against the Cubs. That’s phenomenal. These guys are breaking records of futility right now. That base hit the first and Bowers had the base hit in game three. And since game three against the Cubs, the Brewers have not had a RBI base hit with a runner in scoring position. That tells you why the Brewers are down 03. I don’t think the Dodgers are coming out here and just plastering the Brewers. All right, but I’ll tell you this, and if you watched my short after the game, the short video I cut after the game, I did it like in the bottom of the seventh inning because there was no way the Brewers a two-run deficit for these guys now is insurmountable. Regular season, no way. But in the postseason, did anybody anybody think once the Dodgers took that three to one lead on that error by Urebe that they were going to come back and score? Not at all. Even when Durban got the base hit, the double. And Durban’s the only guy tonight who showed any pride at the plate. He had a triple and a double. All right. Only guy. And he scored on the Bowers base hit. But he’s the only guy who really had any decent at bats. But is this team just a pretty regular season team? I mean, this is what we’ve been going through. This is not the first time we’ve been through this. And I know the Brewers beat the Cubs. Okay. And I know they went to game five and they beat the Cubs. And Murphy before the game today was talking about uh you know, they beat the Cubs who were playing so well at the time. Yeah, that was great beating the Cubs, but this team, you know, we talk about these guys and Murphy talked about this, these guys being underdogs, 97 wins. When you win 97 when you are the best team in any sport record-wise, you are never supposed to be the underdog. How come we’re the underdogs of this series? Well, you know what? Because maybe that 97 wins. No, I don’t even want to say that. I I don’t even want to say it’s a fluke because you you know what they worked their way for 97 wins and winning another division title. All right. Yeah. Were the baseball gods on their side many times this summer like in July during that 11ame winning streak and at August 14game winning streak that the balls bounce their way. Yes. But tonight and throughout this series we’re not seeing it anymore. Brewers are getting a guy at second base and he ain’t scoring. Brewers, the pitching has just been phenomenal and we’re going to get to that. But I didn’t see this team I didn’t see Christian Yelich going one for 11 and a further extension. He broke an 0 for 17 slump with an infield singer, a single, a a swinging bunt tonight. So I don’t really call that I mean it’s a base hit in the scoring book, but it wasn’t a clean base hit. a little chopper down the third baseline and his bats are just just brutal. Um, I mean, he can’t get anything. I mean, he can’t do anything. Strikeouts, strikeout after strikeout after strikeout. I wanted to ask you, I don’t know if it was appropriate. I mean, is he hurt? Is his back bothering him? As you’re watching me on YouTube, by the way, they’re messing with the lights here at Dodger Stadium. I just hope they don’t turn the lights out. Although the Dodgers might be turning out the lights on the Brewers tomorrow or on on Friday, whenever you’re watching this podcast, but the offense just missing in action again, down 03 in this series. I I I thought they would be more competitive than this. I thought if if if anything uh they would if they would lose this series, they would go down and there would be some hard-fought exciting games. The entertainment value in these three games has just been absolutely brutal. Unless you’re betting on the Dodgers, of course, but the entertainment value, if you were a Brewers fan and or you weren’t a Brewers fan and you sat down and you watched these three games, hey, come over here. Watch this team of mine. Uh they won 97 games. Watch them. You you brought a friend over who had no idea how good the Brewers were, but you told him that they won 97 games. They’re the best team and how great they were and everything. And he watched three days of baseball with you. You would say, “What? This team won 97 games?” I mean, this team we’re watching and we’ve seen teams with who’ve gone through the regular season, got a number one seed, and it bowed out early. But I don’t remember a team bowing out this quickly and this poorly with a whimper. Yes. Nobody’s got any answers. I I don’t know. Is glass was is is Tyler Glass now that good? All right. Yamamoto and Snell. We could give him those two props. But then when uh Vessia and Shrinan come into the game, Suzaki’s good. Suzaki’s good. He had a one, two, three, ninth inning. And of course that Andrew Vaughn ground ball into the hole that that uh Monkey Betts threw him out at first base on like a hopper. I mean, that’s just the way. I mean, even a break like that’s not going to Brewers way. Regular season, he’s on. But you know what? It shouldn’t come down to that. No, no rallies whatsoever. Nothing. Quiet as a mouse. These guys are going out. Quiet as a mouse. So I I So I say, you know, in locker room, can you come People are asking the players, can you come back and win this series? Win this series. How about winning it at that first? just had the first RBI with a rudder in scoring position in this series. How about winning an at bat first? God, unbelievable. One for 11 for Yelled, sixks in the series. And if you want to extend it to the Cub series, those numbers are worse. And somebody’s going to say, “Well, look at how bad look at how bad the Dodgers have been with Show.” Well, not the Dodgers, but look how bad Shi has been. What he come in this game with a two for 24, but still they got other guys to make up. And then again, the Dodgers aren’t crushing the ball all over the field because the Brewers pitching has been just amazing. Has been just amazing. Cheerio um he said after the game that he had a cramp. Now, that’s him talking. I don’t know if he’s trying to sugarcoat it or whatever, but because of a cramp, he had to come out of the game. When do you ever see a guy come out of a game because of a cramp, right? Cramps go away, especially with the medical advanced medical equipment the Brewers have, right? Those things go away. So, we’ll see if he’s in the lineup on Friday. Perkins took the rest of his bat and Perkins popped out or struck out or whatever was, you know, it wasn’t memorable, but you know, things were so bad here tonight. And then Cheurio in the uh seventh inning comes up with that and has to check out of the game with Durban on second base. And it was like that’s great. you know, he hobbles over to the dugout and that there he went. I’m like, and he said by his locker room through the his translator that he um it was just uh it was just a cramp. Okay, we’ll see if he’s in the lineup tomorrow, but obviously he’s he definitely got some sort of hamstring thing going on. We know that. So, we’ll see if it was just a cramp or if he reagravated that where to it’s a point where he can’t play tomorrow. And obviously if he can’t play tomorrow, you’ll see Perkins out in center field. I’ve been saying put Isaac Collins in the lineup. Isaac Collins gets his shot, pinches pinch hits and one pitch and he pops out the short right. I don’t know what’s happened to Isaac Collins. But man, he was great at times in the regular season. Last month or two of the regular season just was bad. Now they can’t even use him anymore. I said the Cub series said maybe we should put this guy in. But obviously they feel so little confidence in Isaac Collins. Now look, we’re talking about putting Isaac Collins in the lineup right now. That’s how bad it’s got that Jake Bowers. Jake Bowers is really one of the other few guys who are showing a spark. He had the double the other night in game one in the ninth inning and then he had the RBI single tonight. I guess one of the few offensive sparks. A guy who’s Bower is a bench player for these guys. A guy the Brewers didn’t even want in the offseason. They didn’t even t him a contract. And he’s delivered a couple of their big hits along with Durban and that’s been it. But there hasn’t been any really big hits because this team can’t score them anyway. Can’t drive these guys in. I don’t mean to be so negative, guys, but I’m just, like I said in my postgame video, I’m not disappointed. I’m just um well, aggravated would be a great term for it. Disgusted, I think, is the term I used. I’m just disgusted. You go through six months and we buy into this team. The fans do. You guys out there buy into this team. Sell out Amfam Field so many times. Even on a Packer Sunday are selling out Amfam Field. Buy into this team. And we get this. We get this in the postseason. Fraud, man. Maybe it is. Like I said, if this team is going to lose this series and lose to the Dodgers, at least go down with a fight, right? I mean, I can I can live by getting beat by a better team, which I don’t think the Dodgers are a better team, but if I say that, it sounds crazy. The Brewers were a better regular season team. The Dodgers are probably built for October. That expression, I didn’t want to believe it, but maybe it’s true. But maybe it’s true. So disappointed. All right, we come back. There was a bright spot, and I’m going to talk about that coming up next. Check Freeman here on Lockdown Brewers, part of Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day. But, and also write me on um on Twitter, Chuck Freeman, F- Ri Mu N. I know I got a lot of a lot of people to get back to and I will I’m going to try to do that. What night is this? Thursday night. I’m gonna try to do that once I get back to the hotel a little bit later on tonight. All right, my my one bright spot so far. I think we’ve learned that Jacob Miserowski, well, if we didn’t know before, uh he is the real thing. I mean, he came out here when the lights are brightest again, came out here in the in the first inning after Ashby, and that’s another story. Um couldn’t get out of his own way. Miz came in, kept it a one- nothing game and went on to be just amazing out there. five innings, three hits, one earned run, and nine Ks. He became the first rookie in baseball playoff history to have nine strikeouts in relief. Now, obviously, it’s a new game in baseball and all that. And, you know, we’re because of openers and and so on, a reliever can go five innings now and uh that’s what the Miz did. But I think each and every every time he’s out there, he’s been phenomenal in the postseason, the Cubs series, this series. Mizes for sure to me is a starter next year. In fact, he probably should have been starting here in one of these games. But you know what? We’re going unconventional. I think the I think the Brewers were afraid to start Ms. Rowski in any of these playoff games. Pitching has not been the problem, but um Ms. Zerowelski has got to be a starter in the rotation next year depending if Freddy is here. We think Freddy’s going to come back next year, right? He’s got the one year left on his deal. That’s conversations for a different time. But Miz has got to be in the upper half of this rotation next year. Absolutely does. And coming out here and the way he’s pitched in the postseason to me, big game pitcher. Big game pitcher. I asked him tonight, I said I said, “Miz, man, is this the best you’ve ever thrown in a major league game?” He says, “Well, I’ve had other games where I I pitched pretty good.” You know, he he gives you one of those answers, but uh he was throwing his fast ball 102 miles an hour. His um slider was at 96, curve ball about 91 or so. So, pretty good numbers. Pretty good numbers. And not that I wasn’t sold on the Miz and I think going into the postseason we were all a little tentative, but I think he’s cured those. I think we have our confidence in Miz’s return. Jacob Miserowski is a big- time player and he proved it out there tonight. Unfortunately, the Brewers just couldn’t get him any runs. He did give up a run toward the end. That VO started coming down. The velocity started coming down a little bit, but I thought the Miz was just phenomenal. In fact, the whole the pitching for the for the most part has been great. And yeah, and I ranted in my my pregame interview tonight about um I’m getting a a notification on my computer at just the wrong time. I ranted on my pregame um video which I dropped before all these playoff games. I I said um Ashb again. I mean, how many how many times we going to run this guy out there? Is he starting tomorrow? We going to keep running Ashby out there? So Ashby has not been good in the postseason and he got the Brewers in an early hole, one- nothing. Gave up a triple to Otani to start the game and then Buts uh Books Books Betts, it’s been a long day. Mookie Betts doubled and he eventually was stranded on base. So Miz came in put out the fire. But um yeah, I I think that Miz is great and I I think with Ashby, it’s just weird that we got to keep running these openers out for every game that there’s not a guy to be trusted. But that’s not been the problem. But if the offense could only support these guys because these this pitching staff is being taxed right now. We did it again tonight. Ube came out there and um you know some of these guys are getting taxed. We’re we’re using all these guys and it’s uh they’re running on fumes right now. They’re running on fumes. So, even if the Brewers were winning some of these games offensively and out slugging the Dodgers, which they’re going to have to do obviously, they’re going to have to start putting up some runs. Well, again, let’s Yellish said this after the game. Somebody asked him about coming back from an 03 deficit, and he’s right. He said this, “We got to take it in little goals. We have to get it back to Milwaukee.” I took it a little further. I said, “We got to win in that bat once.” in a while. Can we start winning at bats and quit chasing out of the zone and quit helping Glass now and uh all these other guys swinging at pitches out of the strike zone? Blake Trinan. Blake Trinan stinks. Vessia stinks. I saw these guys get blown up so many times in the regular season and we we we bet we the Brewers bet hit against Trident like he’s Mariano Rivera Vessia too when he came into the game like oh wonderful as long as it’s not Suzaki and he came in in the ninth inning he’s the closer now the Dodgers spent all that money on all all that relief help and Suzaki ends up being their closer because they can’t trust those other guys. I really thought this series was there for the taking and I’m acting like now like it’s that it’s over, but it’s 03. It’s 03 when they tied it up at 1-1 with Bowers. Starting to feel a little bit better. I did not feel good coming to the ballpark. It’s kind of a downer actually to find out that Ashby was starting in this game. It’s like God. Again, we’re going to an opener. We have no idea he was pitching tomorrow. It could be Kintana. Although I thought maybe Jose was going to pitch today, but they they got to go with Kintana. You can’t run Ashby out there again, right? I mean, he’s going to start every game. Can’t do that. They start McGill. Give Jose a shot at it. Give him a shot at it. All right. All right, let’s get to what the Brewers have to do tomorrow. They got to face Shi. You went 0 for three against the first three guys in their rotation and now you got to pitch you got to face Shi who’s taken some no hitters into games this year and got taken out of games even though he’s just pitching amazing. Um, we’ll we’ll talk about a potential matchup tomorrow. And yep, got to take it one game at a time. If you’re that much of a realist, I mean, or an optimist, I should say. You got to take it one game at a time. We’ll get to that next here on Lockdown Brewers. Price picks. Price picks is a way to go if you Every day we make decisions. Price picks being right can actually get you paid. Don’t miss the excitement of this football season. Price picks could be right. Ah, the only s, you know, the the only saving grace is this beautiful weather out here in Los Angeles for me at least. But I can’t fully enjoy it because I’m just steaming inside that this season we’re faced with the possibility of this season coming to an end and not making it to a World Series. Man, they have traffic issues here getting out of the ballpark at Dodger Stadium. They do. Dodger fans, like when we went into Wrigley Field last week for those games against the Cubs, man, that crowd was intense. And maybe it had something to do with the fact that, well, it’s the Brewers for one, but the fact that they were down 02, that was an intense crowd. This crowd here, I mean, they get here in the third inning, even for a playoff game, there were seats open right for the first couple of innings, looking around, it’s like, so winning here at Dodger Stadium against the It’s not like you’re fighting the crowd here. Sure, they eventually packed the place. People are like walking around. They’re not. I’ll say this about Cubs fans. Going into the Wrigley is a heck of a lot tougher than coming into this place. It is. It’s a heck of a lot tougher to win a game at Wrigley when a crowd is that intense and that out for blood. Even a 2018, I didn’t see that here. So, yeah, you’re playing away from home, but it’s not like you’re fighting the crowd here. And that’s one thing the Brewers have on their side. But as Yelled said, got to take it in small little goals. And you’re going to face Shi now. Show’s only pitched. Let me see. I wrote that down here. I write some notes down. And other words, I just do it. I speak from the heart. But 47 innings pitched for show this year. 2.87 earn run average, 62ks, nine walks. That’s a heck of a strikeout to walk there. And um you know he didn’t pitch last year but he came back this year and pitched and and sometimes he’s just been absolutely dominant and then Dave Dave Roberts has taken him out of a game much to the chagrin of Dodger fans and the Dodgers in many cases have gone on to lose those games. I think Kitana is going to get the start on Friday. I could be wrong. I thought maybe he had a good shot at pitching today but it for sure is going to be show. How did the Brewers come back? Well, I mean, if we want to think it in that terms, how can the Brewers come back from an 03 deficit? Well, can we even go there without even winning a game? You got to win Friday night, first of all, right? So, here’s the way I look at it right now, and this is a stretch, I know. Somehow find a way to win a game Friday night. Somehow find a way to win a ball game. and your offense is going to have to turn around because whoever’s pitching, we can’t continue to stress that pitching staff like we’re doing. And then maybe Saturday if you come back and win another I know some of you guys are laughing at this and come back and win on Saturday again. So now you’re down 3-2 coming back to Milwaukee and just making a hornets nest at Amfam Field, right? I know it’s far-fetched, but that’s all we have to do because these guys have put us in this position to figure out, oh, what way can we survive this season? Oh, honey, what way will you come back into my life? What do I got to do? Win at bat first, like we said at the top, win one game at a time and get it back to Milwaukee. Yes, get it back to Milwaukee. But let’s get a crooked number. How about let’s put up a a a three or four spot in one of these innings. That’d go a long way. Let’s start there. Let’s win one game at a time. One step on the ladder. All right, everybody. That’s going to do it. Wish we had better news here tonight. And I feel for you Brewers fans, man. I do. I I read your comments and all that. And I’m just uh like I’ve said all along, this uh you know these this is all for you, this team. And they’re not producing for you right now. And that’s what’s disappointing because you guys do such a great job supporting this team with zero championships under their belt, world championships, and you keep coming back and you keep coming back. It’s been a 97 win season. You came back again this year and supported it more than ever. 2.6 6 million through the gates. Man, I really want them to again, if you don’t win this series, at least go down fighting, right? Not literally fighting, but with a pulse at least. It’s going to do it everybody. My name is Chuck Freeman, Locked On Brewers, part of Locked On podcast network. Thank you all you everydayers every day. you guys who listen to you uh to me on the here and I’ve I’ve seen very few Brewer fans out here and I get it. I’m not blaming you guys, but I’ve seen two jerseys, two jerseys the entire day and I was here four hours before the game walking around and all that. I seen two Brewer jerseys and that’s it. But that’s not the way reason why this team is down 03. You guys have been great all year long. All right, that’s going to do it. We’ll see you coming up after the game on Friday night. I hope it’s not a season ender. Chuck Freeman here on Lockdown Brewers, part of Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day. Have a great Friday, everybody.

  1. That wasn’t the Cubs “L” flag in the NLDS team photo. Do a google search. It’s obvious. Brewers actually created an “L” flag that belongs to them exclusively. Well….them and karma. Stings, doesn’t it?

  2. Here is one theory I have: It’s the curse of the 2 three home run games. The regular season it was all about putting pressure on opponents with patience and plate discipline to get walks, singles, and doubles. Then once on the speed would get steals or cause opponents to make errors. And often they would string together hit after hit in one inning. Then the homers in the post season got them in the long ball mindset, thinking they’re sluggers instead of woodpeckers. Then, as it gets worse and worse, it’s a downward spiral where they focus more and more on being a hero and hitting homers to get them back in it.

  3. What gets me mad is the 50 million dollars the state of Wisconsin gave the Brewers to renovate the stadium an got nothing to show for it. Here is the thing sbout when tax payers flip the bill for the renovstions we expect to dee a winning product on the field an the rsults to prove a investment like that was worth the investment.

  4. I’m from LA but used to live in Milwaukee, and I was really hoping the Brewers would make it to the World Series this year. Still, you can’t really blame them for losing. It’s nearly impossible to beat the Dodgers—not because Dave Roberts is any better than Pat Murphy, but because any manager could win with that stacked Dodgers roster. They’ve got endless talent to work with. Honestly, it’s surprising that Pat Murphy got the Brewers this far with such limited players.

The main issue was that while the Brewers’ hitters are solid team players, they needed more creativity and individuality in the postseason to find ways to generate runs.
On the other hand, the Dodgers’ bullpen wasn’t great either, but they’ve got plenty of starters and relievers to fall back on. And Ohtani isn’t just launching home runs—he’s also pitching better than most average pitchers out there.

As for Uribe, he just hasn’t looked like himself lately—either he can’t throw his best stuff, or he’s a bit intimidated by the Dodgers’ star power.

  5. Congrats to the Brewers for accomplishing an amazing season, however the Dodgers team is a machine and they can win either with the starting hitters or the bottom 5-9 hitters. The Brewers are not hitting because the Dodger's pitching has been on an entirely different level. The way they have been pitching I honestly think no team would not be able to hit them during this streak.

  6. Taking shots at LA fans, your worried about the wrong things jackass. Hope it done Friday and you chokers get what you deserve. That 96 wins was facade, brewers choke when the lights are bright.

  7. Man, look at all of these Dodger internet big guys. Brewers were a better team and got hurt at the wrong time. Dodgers are a better team bc they got healthy at the right time. It's that simple.

  8. It is not Brewers fault, they have a great year! As a Cubs fan that’s hard to admit! Baseball is guilty of not making the Dodgers control there payroll. The MLB does not have an even playing field. It’s just not fair to most MLB Teams

  9. Brewers had the better regular season. Dodgers are having the better playoffs. The Dodgers are the better team–better roster, & better playoff experience. No shame in losing to a team that might be the best in 25 years.

  10. There is a great video about how racist your people are about. I have it. I’m gonna send it to you.
What really happened in game three in LA?.
The lady calling us illegal people.
You guys wanna talk politics white people.
    Let’s do it or baseball

  11. Man…honestly ill be so glad when the brewers are out because they complain so much. Such sore losers…waa waa salary cap..waaaa…try developing players and taking chances. Dodgers went through years of losing investing in their team over and over

  12. A lot of condolences in the comments for the Brewers fans. Thanks…
I understand the Dodgers had injuries during the season, well, what team doesn't???
But this is just the way it is. Most of us are salty because the Brewers had us believing and yet again, they fall on their collective faces in the playoffs. I was 10 years old when the Crew played in a WS in '82.
It just makes you wonder why they bother playing in the MLB anymore. Just go AAA already. They have 1/3 the budget of LA, they recruit and develop young players and those developed players leave after finding their skills and having some success. Brewers are nothing but a AAA team. Fool me once shame on you, fool me for 43 years, well…. 2 words, Brewer fatigue.

  13. Dodgers built their team for the postseason. They have a few guys ljke Kike and Muncy that the entire reason they are on the team is for the postseason.

  14. Very frustrating but I knew at some point it would come to an end. I just wish they would have fought a little harder, some of these at bats are just horrendous. I never expected to beat the Dodgers to be honest, but I at least thought it would be a good series

  15. The regular season? A long drawn out…snooze fest. LA Dodgers’ regular season? Ambulance and stretchers ridden season. 🥴😵‍💫⚡️⛈️ The Dodgers are now healthy, open a can of whoop-ass, and served with Dodgers dogs. You want some Vlasic pickles 🥒 pickles 🥒 with that?!?!

By the way…with the mustard off your cheeks! 😂❤🎉. Champagne 🍾 champagne 🥂 🎊 🚬 🚬🚬🚬🚬. Was it good for you….as it was for the Dodgers? 😂😮😅😊❤

  16. You ran into 2 great starters on LA. Any team would have struggled. Glassnow was good, not great. Had a chance against him…and as they say, great pitching beats great hitting.

  17. The Brewers aren’t frauds they’re a young team with little experience in the post season. I’ve watched the Dodgers get bounced out of the playoffs countless times. You’ll be alright
