honored to be able to address all you this evening. Great players, all the special people that have uh supported these great players over the years. What does it mean to be a Seahawk? It’s one of the things that I’m most proud of. There’s been more than 1,200 people that have worn the Seahawk jersey. Pro football’s newest team, the Seattle Seahawks. To say that you guys were voted by the fans to be the top 50 players in our first 50 years here, that’s really special, man. We’re going to Detroit. The success means so much more because of how hard the journey was. It means so much more because it wasn’t a smooth road. Everything you guys go through, like it’s amazing. I promise you as we move forward and everybody in this building will continue to do that to do whatever we can to be a consistent championship caliber football team and to be a world champion again. For that reason, you don’t take anything for granted. I have a lot of pride in being a Seahawk. Just want to say congratulations to everybody in the top 50. It’s an honor. Grew up watching all you guys, man. It’s just uh pretty cool, you know. So, it’s awesome to have you here. Hope you have a great time. Behalf of uh our team now, man. We just want to say thank you for everything you’ve done for us. Laid the foundation. It’s an incredible honor to be a part of this group. For all of us, our journey is a little different. And for those of us who the journey was maybe a little bit tougher, I mean, I played with Robbie Tobeck and Chris Gray. They weren’t the guys that everyone was saying, “Oh, you’re a first ballot hall of famer.” They weren’t those guys, but they were unbelievable teammates. They were unbelievable players. And it is really cool to see guys like that. Guys like Max Strong get the recognition of the for the impact that they had on our team. The impact of 50 seasons of Seahawks football is felt by many. And in week five, the top 50 players come home to a celebration. 12elves. Let’s hear it for our top 50 Seahawks players. In our locker room and I think in our city, the respect is there, I think, for the people who know some of those names that aren’t maybe the household names. 50 years, top 50 players. None of us were ever out here by ourselves. It was 11 guys at a time. I don’t have time to thank everybody, but if everybody up here in a jacket could be up here, we would thank our teammates. Let’s go. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Matt. And congratulations to all of our top 50 players. Great job. I’ll tell you everything. There’s no debate. The Seahawks history is legendary. And this Sunday, that legacy is woven into the threads on the field. They call it the expansion bowl. On October 17th, 1976, the Seahawks earned the first win in franchise history against fellow expansion team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I think for a long time, Seattle was an afterthought on the national scene. Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest, the Seahawks had been the team born on the wrong side of the tracks. But that all began to change and I think we had a chip on our shoulder a little bit on the national media. It wasn’t natural like the other teams and I think our fan base had that same chip on their shoulder. And here we go in Seattle. Matthew, you have two quarterbacks here who both were kind of they both sort of bombed out at the places that drafted them high in the first round. Here they are, two successful quarterbacks. They’ve heard it all. Yeah, they’re battle tested. You know, neither guy has thin skin anymore. Now both guys are are thriving. Second down and goal from the six. 9 seconds left on this 10th play of the drive. JSN starts in the back field now. He splits out wide right side. Darnold looks, fires inside. Ball is caught. Touchdown Seahawks. Jackson Smith and Ja splits out from the back field. Runs a slant route between two defenders and Darnold throws it on a dime from six yds out. Hey baby. That late touchdown to Smith and Jigma was a big difference. Big momentum change going into the half. Come on, let’s play now. Let’s play. I love the style that we’re playing with. I love what I’m seeing out of the offense personnel groupings. Offensively, the style is back. And it’s Sharon on first and goal. Touchdown. What a way to begin the second half. Darnold’s going to throw back. Touchdown Seahawks. AJ Barner. Very well progressive. And a terrific game so far. These two quarterbacks have been spectacular. Sammy, he looks, loads up, going to throw. Jackson Smith and Jig Bep. He makes the catch. Has all day. He’s going to land a fly. Got a man deep and Booka makes the catch. Well, these quarterbacks have just put on a show that I think is reflective of where they are right now in their careers and what they’ve been through. In the left flat, the ball is caught and AJ Barer touchdown. Barner sheds Levante David. Snap comes. Sam’s going to look. Sam’s going to get hit. Sam’s going to throw. Sam has a touchdown. Seahawks. Cory Horton. Sam D. You wild man here. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Let’s go. Second down one. Mayfield. 28 of 32. The back is white. Mayfield to the air. Worth the block. buying time into the end zone. Caught. Touchdown. Touchdown. It’s Sheepard. We’re a point away from tying this thing up. We got We brought it up in late in the third quarter. Whoever has the ball last, it seems like, is going to win this game. And and right now, with a minute left, all three timeouts, Seattle’s going to get first crack at it. Well, the Buccaneers like to blitz. That’s something they’ve done all year. Let’s see if they bring some pressure here. Here comes the rush. Sam gets the ball away and throws it into the middle of the field and it’s intercepted. It’s intercepted by Leavante David, the inside linebacker. Sam played tremendous football game and we just didn’t get it done. Kick is away and Tampa Bay is going to win 38-35. You got to give Tampa Bay a lot of credit. We knew that they would fight to the very last end. This game is my responsibility. I have to do better on with our defensive game plan and our execution and how we call it. It’s one game and it’s week five. Obviously, you want to win that game and it’s no excuse to lose it, but you know, you got to turn the page and you know, we go to Jacksonville next week, so time to, you know, make it right. On the offensive side of the ball, there was obviously a lot of positive. How about AJ Barner and where he’s at now heading into his second year? This what I was planning on bringing to Jacksonville. Got to prepare for the heat. Just going kind of casual this week. I like kind of like skater motorcycle vibes. Especially like I mentioned, it’s going to be hot in Jacksonville. So like don’t want to be sweating pulling up to the game. So I’m wearing some shorts. People ask me about my style. Like I get my style from my mom for one. My mom has some swag. the plaid shirt. But that shirt I actually got from one of my friends that I buy stuff from. It was just like a bunch of different flannels like zipped together and stuff, which is kind of cool. And people up here appreciated the vibes. Flannels are perfect for fall. So I like to have different things that I feel like resemble me. Thrift store. You can find some great finds out here in Seattle. I got this little owl statue. Shout out Coach Jay Harbaugh. He calls me the barn owl. He’s called me that since Michigan. And then I love like black air forces. Sometimes you got to put a black force on and let them know. Feel like those things are creative and like cool to me. You feel like when you put up 35 points as an offense, you should probably walk away with a W. Most of the time you play a game, whether it goes good or bad, you have those memories of what just happened. Obviously, they’ll fade. You kind of think about it early in the week and then as the week goes on, it’s like, all right, like I got to play again on Sunday. So, I have a hyperbaric chamber at my house. Basically, I just start it up and my lights flicker cuz it runs so much power. I get in there probably like three times a week, two, three times a week. Tuesday is kind of like that intermediate day where it’s like it’s starting to fade out and once Wednesday hits, it’s time to go. do a lot of like massage therapy, do a lot of acupuncture, hydrotherapy, pools, having little personal therapies, like taking a deep breath sometimes is like therapy for me as well. Any little edge that you can gain, you got to you got to try and do it. Everyone does it a different way. There’s a lot of great tight ends in this league, and I feel like I’m one of them. Diving into the end zone. Touchdown Seahawks. And obviously I’m just scratching the surface now and have so much more that I need to do, but it’s cool that people are starting to find out and like you you have to put them on notice endzone back touchdown. You like that? For someone like myself, I had to like I was fourth round pick. Didn’t really have all the stats in college. Like I kind of stopped like comparing to others. And when you focus on like the things that you do well and like really embrace those, I think that’s powerful. And that’s going to do it tonight here in Seattle. Final score 3316. Good to see you, bro. How you doing? Looking great, bro. Like you never left. You look great, dog. Appreciate it, bro. Keep taking it over, man. Get good with Sammy D, dog. I got you. I’ve met Trav a couple times before. Obviously, he’s from Cleveland. after the game. I’m not really the type of person that would like ask for somebody’s jersey, especially a legend like that. And it was cool cuz he was like, “Send me that jersey.” And I was like, like mine, like you’re going to you’re going to send me that one. So it was cool. We swapped jerseys. It says, “AJ, keep balling and keep holding it down for the city.” Travis Kelce and I kind of said the same things like me and Kobe always talk about Cleveland boy. Cleveland boy. I wrote that on his and just appreciate the motivation. It’s really dope to have people from your city that put on. And in backto back weeks, both Cleveland boys take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now Lawrence goes down, has to get up, breaks the tackle. Touchdown Jacksonville. They play hard. They have a good scheme. They got good players. On second down, picked off Lloyd again. Devin Lloyd. They do a good job raking at the ball. Do a good job of, you know, dropping to their spots and zones. So, definitely something we’re cognizant of. Ball is out. Loose ball in the That’s every week obviously taking care of the football, but you know, when you’re playing a team like this, definitely a point of emphasis, but that’s the NFL. Every team has good players. It’ll be a great challenge for us. So, I’m really excited about it. Week six in Jacksonville, Florida, the place the 4-1 Jags host the 3 and2 Seattle Seahawks in a game matching teams with winning records. My goal always was just to go one and0 every week. It’s kind of a oneplay mindset, one play at a time mindset. First and 10. Lawrence shotgun snap looks left. Now he’s going to throw far side. Ball is caught and walking into the end zone is Brian Thomas for a touchdown. There’s the mindset some offenses have where they say, “Oh, shoot. Who’s our opponent? We got to worry about them.” Jacksonville’s a really good team. Uh they’ve been playing really well. But then there’s the mindset, it’s like, “Oh, shoot. You got to worry about us.” Sam Darnold starts under center. Horton wide to the right side. Play fake. Darnold sets to throw and floating one down the middle and Smith has it. Touchdown Seahawks. And a 61 yd rocket to number 11 JSN puts six more on the board for the Hawks. See you later. I’m faster than you. And Sam Darnold throwing a dime spot. That’s the second big ball over the top. And the Seahawks explode and go on top. Well, a difference in the kicking game, of course. Outstanding Seattle defense against Trevor Lawrence. Damn, they had poop bars up there. I don’t like getting to some of that. Like this like this Vegas or something. With multiple injuries on defense, the Seahawks Dline needs to make a splash. Seattle’s going to rush four. Lawrence has time now. He’s going to go down inside the 5 yd line. A half a sack for Williams. A half a sack for Channon Wu to throw is Lawrence instead. He will keep and get tripped up. Byron Murphy from the middle of that Seattle defense from the shotgun tootin in the backfield. Rush is coming. Lawrence gets hit. He’s going to go down and it’s Daw Demarcus Lawrence. Somebody got out of bed angry this morning cuz they’re taking it out on Trevor Lawrence. 33 pressures and seven sacks isn’t just taking it out, it’s taking over. Rush again and again. Trevor Lawrence gets hit, gets bent, goes down, gets smashed. Lawrence drops back, gets hit, gets hit, goes down. It’s Jenna as well as D. Lawrence. Well, the Seahawks offense has adjusted after that first quarter. Seattle’s basically saying, “Hey man, we’re going to be tougher than you.” Darnold out of the shotgun. Blitz coming. Time to throw back corner. Ball is caught. Touchdown. Seahawks. Cooper Cup makes the catch. Sliding front corner of the end zone from 11 yds out. A perfect pass thrown by Sam Darnold. Old dog still got new tricks. I see you, baby. And it’s a one possession but a two-score game. Seattle gets the ball back on offense protecting that lead of eight. Darnold under center. Darnold’s going to roll left as time looks. Steps up, throws back wide open. Barter makes the catch. AJ Barter. 40 30 cut back inside. 25 20 comes back outside. Can they bring him down eventually? Yes. Inside the 15 yd line. And that might just demoralize the Jacksonville defense. What a call and what a play. get in your victory formation and call this thing good and and they got it done and you know down a couple of guys as well and got it done on the road. The ninth straight road win by this Seahawks team. Amazing. There’s a lot that goes into sustained success. I think ultimately success it’s almost like contagious. It’s awesome. I don’t know what the secret sauce is, but they know how to come on the road all the way across country and win. But that that is us. That is Seahawk football, man. I mean, you pick me up, we pick each other up. One drive after another, one play after another, you guys whipped out, guys. We nailed our process this week and I think focused on our style of ball and uh staying composed, staying together, picking each other up, excited, excited for this flight home and then go play Monday Night Football. On the next episode of The Sound, the Seahawks face the Texans on Monday night, then head to Washington DC for a prime time battle with the Commanders.
Week 5 brought a celebration decades in the making as the Seahawks honored the Top 50 Players in franchise history, welcoming Seahawks Legends back to Seattle for a weekend of memories and connection. Sharing the milestone, both the Seahawks and Buccaneers marked their 50th seasons in a hard-fought battle that came down to the wire, with Seattle falling just short, 38-35. Refusing to dwell on the loss, the team responded on the road in Jacksonville, securing a 20-12 victory and their ninth straight road win. Now, the stage is set for Monday Night Football under the Lumen Field lights as the Seahawks prepare to host the Houston Texans.
