The Trae Young Situation Is Getting Weird…
Does anyone else find it interesting that Trey Young just does not have an extension with the Atlanta Hawks? We’ve got a bunch of other guys around the league that are getting extensions. Presumably Trey Young wants the max extension, the one that pays him like 65 plus million dollars a year. The Hawks have assembled a pretty good team around him. They look to be a pretty intriguing team for this upcoming season. He should be at the center of that and he just doesn’t have a contract extension which creates all kinds of weird scenarios. And as good as the vibes appear to be in Atlanta outside of this, this can very easily derail things pretty quickly if your star player, presumably your best player, does not have a long-term contract extension. It makes me wonder if the Hawks are thinking maybe Trey Young isn’t the guy necessarily that we’re building around. We’ve just built a nice roster and Trey Young happens to be the guy at the center of it. It’s definitely very interesting. Trey Young is a good NBA player. You’re going to have a above average offense when he’s on the team and you’re going to have some issues on defense whenever he’s on the team. And I just wonder if this is one of those things that a year from now we all realize, oh yeah, it does make sense why Trey Young didn’t get an extension because now he’s on the Lakers or he’s on the Nets or what whatever team you want to throw out there. He can make more money at the end of the season.
If I’m Atlanta, I’m not paying his ass either. Just because it’s a super max available does not mean you are super max worthy and I’m not giving a super max to somebody that gets scored on the most in the league I’m just not doing it totally different than the Luka situation

We've been having the Trae Young conversation for like three or four years now.
He can be an impressive scorer but does not seem to affect the outcome of games. What's that worth? Not a max, not even close IMO. There's like…. five players on OKC who are more valuable to a team, who are making around what Trae should be making.
