And that was for a guy who had already won them four World Series titles.
I get what we are trying to do here but that was at the time stupid and not needed from your owner in the middle of a playoff series. As someone who remembers this vividly it was embarrassing at the time
George cared a lot about winning, certainly more than Hal. He also had his flaws
Boone isn’t a bad manager but I understand why so many people want him gone. He’s had 8 years without a title that’s unacceptable for Yankees standards. If Hal wasn’t owner and Cash wasn’t GM he already would’ve been gone.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll continue to say it: there’s a reason George wanted to leave the team to his son-in-law and not his own dumbass sons, and we’ve already learned why.
There will never be another one like him
Hal be like your dad. Sign Tucker and re sign Cody. I don’t give a fuck. Sign them.
i’ll split the baby here: George holding people accountable was good, but issuing public statements in the middle of a world series is not what we need
like, Hal can just fire boone and cashman after years of not getting results and thats fine. i don’t need or want him putting them on blast in the media
Tony Gwynn on the call here is really cool to see. Dude really knew baseball on a higher level
People saying that George being a good owner is revisionist history are wild. Dude wanted to win more than anything. Did that result in crazy stuff….yes….Did that make him relatable to the fans and did it create a legacy of winning and accountability if the desired results weren’t met…YES.
No way Machado and Harper aren’t Yankees if George was around and who knows, maybe that’s enough that the landscape of baseball doesn’t change and i wouldn’t be forced to watch the Dodgers use our own formula to become a dynasty in the making while being forced to listen to Boone and cashman make the same excuses for our team year over year with no ramifications to speak of.
I bet George is rolling in his grave
Miss The Boss every season. He wouldn’t put up with this shit.
Fans wanted Torre gone as well. Same with Girardi.
Once Boone is replaced, i’ll give it about a decade or less for people to forget they wanted his head after every single loss.
Managers are usually the guy on the team that people want replaced first. No matter how bad of a job the GM/owner has done with creating the team. Managers are always the fall guy, in almost everyone’s view.
Me personally, I think this team has a much bigger issue than Boone as manager.
That was a owner that cared about winning. His spoon fed son don’t give a shit.
